I will call my friend he is a cooling engineer he knows a lot about air pressure and airflow and all that stuff. and see what he says.

Or just buy a fish tank and submerge it in pure mineral oil then no fans are needed.

take a look at this way to expensive though for what these miners make.

Thanks for posting this, a video on the site answered a big question I had which was would a fan work submerged in mineral oil and the answer is yes (but much slower), wonder if a stronger motor would fair better (ie., 1 amp to 3.25 amp).  With the video, it shows that miners submerged, may just be the answer for those willing to pay for the quiet at home.  Now for the ultimate home project, wait for the C2 to be released and have 2 running in mineral oil with one radiator for the mineral oil and one for the coolant.  Wonder if someone has done something really crazy like that, with the coolant radiator also submerged in mineral oil in a separate tank (with the oil going through a radiator on a separate channel)?

I believe my Antminer S5 is Dead on Arrival, I attached 4 PCI connectors and turned the power supply on and the machine does not power on. None of the black buttons are working either.

I'm using the 750 W Rosewill ATX PSU.

Anyone have any ideas?
Did you put a paper clip on your power supply ?

Are you using the right paper clip on your power supply?

Test supply, if the fan spins etc... and no miner, find the reset button and hold that and pray.

Seems like a simple solution exists to me. Switch from "fan mode" to "propeller mode", admittedly I know nothing of this magic fluid. It is interesting!

Bitcoin mining farms do it. Its called submersion cooling checkout this video big mining farms already do it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZavKweMrP4#t=60

I wonder just an air pump under the miner in the tank would make air bubbles which will catch the heat in the bubbles and bring it to the surface but I think this will not cool the mineral oil enough.

here is another very interesting one which I like.

and here is even another link right on our forum.

Cool idea. I am planning covering up the top and bottom sections with perspex and adding a peltier cooler device to the front of the S5 maybe infront of the stock fan or after. Will have to do some tests.
Based on the previous posts. -10C intake air gives a nice ~30C running temp.

Is it possible to have a real fish/animal tank?  Any funky creatures that could survive in that environment?  I guess you could just experiment but it might wreak havoc on the filters.  That would be ultimate coolness though if you could have an actual animal tank.  show me pictures of that

@KeezAZA: too complicated because of extra psu for peltier&fan, extra heat that you need to get rid off); not worth if you pay for electricity! It should be just an idea that you leave behind in the next second Wink

@at the rest of the guys thinking to submerge: too complicated, check the price of the submerging liquid and chill out! Grin

Can I sink my S5 just in a fish tank with mineral oil and leave it for forever to mine?I know a Pc computer handle this with no problem.
Bitmain can you confirm this?

Indeed people seem to forget that the mineral oil heats up and it still needs to dissipate the heat away. The same amount of heat is generated...

Remove the fan,  Stand the miner vertically in a tall tank with enough space underneath to let the oil in, the thermal cycle will lift the heat to the top,
then use one of those silent, tower heat exchangers (normally used for water cooling and about 900mm high) to cool the oil.

How about submerging it in liquid nitrogen?
