BitmainWarranty will have to answer that, I can't set precedence as I'm not an employee.

Reporting in with an odd problem.
One of my S5's went to hashing at half it's capable rate, despite all rows showing o's. A reboot resolved the issue.
Running stock firmware from B1.
People have reported that the newer firmware solves that issue.
I'm scared of upgrading Sad Guess I'll take the plunge. Thanks !

Edit: Updated CGMiner in latest firmware. Cool ! So far so good.
Hi.

The new firmware (Jan 7) does not include a new CGminer, it's still 4.8.0.  If you also want to install 4.9.0, then that's a manual SSH operation which does not survive reboot.  Here are the instructions:

Wanted to update that both miners have been stable since changing them to static instead of DHCP + the Jan 7th Firmware update.
I noticed the "Discarded" column value for me is nearly twice as large as "accepted"
For example right now I have 556 accepted, 5 rejected, 1333 discarded.
Frequency is 350M.  Pool hash rate is showing 1065GH so it must not be hurting the pool rate much if at all.
Is this normal, or something I should change?

Yeah that's fine, discarded shares mean nothing.

Lowering the noise level of the Antminer S5.

I've been running miners in a 1 bedroom condo, that I share with my girlfriend. I've placed them on top of our refrigerator, in the center of the condo. She works at home during the day, so it's important that they are not too loud.

When I hooked up the S5, I heard the loud whining sound that some people had posted about and knew I had to do something about it. I already had ordered 2 Delta fans off of Amazon, but they had yet to arrive. The were $22 each and are, Delta afb1212she-pwm 120mm x 38mm 4pin pwm+tac sensor extreme hi-speed 3700 rpm 151cfm case fan.

I had seen a post from ckolivas, where they found that the flow divider was the cause for much of the noise and found great improvement in using S3 fans instead of S5 fans. I removed the pull fans from 2 of my S3s and used them to replace the noisy fans on my 2 S5s. So now I have 2 S3s and 2 S5s all with only 1 S3 fan each in the push position. The S3 fan wire connector was not long enough, so I had to cut the end off of the S5 fan, strip the wire ends, and insert them into the S3 fan connector to make it work.

Results on the S3 are, the push fan runs a little faster, but overall quitter, and the machines are only 1 or 2 degrees warmer.

On the S5s, I down-clocked to 300mhz to keep the temps at or below 60C. The fans ran at about 3200RPM but were so much quitter that the stock fans. I was able to run the 2 S3s and the 2 S5s with a noise level that is bearable. Oh and as others have said, the pull fans don't seem to accomplish much as far as cooling, but definitely drive up the noise level.

When the delta fans got here, I tried them on the S5s instead of the S3 fans. The connector is 4 pin and the fans do self speed adjust, but I had to make a slight mod to the connector end to make it fit just right.

Results, 1 of the above delta fans on a S5 is slightly quitter than the S3 fan on the S5. It cools better and can run at a lower fan speed 2880RPM @ 300mhz, compared to 3200RPM @ 300mhz. You can use this delta fan to go back up to the 350mhz stock frequency and still stay at or below 60C in a room temperature room, with about the same noise as the S3 fan @ 300mhz.

So far I'm happy with the following setup.
1 - S5 with 1 of the above Delta fan in push position running at 300hmz mining at approx. 980-990gh/s
1 - S5 with 1 of the above Delta fan in push position running at 300hmz mining at approx. 980-990gh/s
1 - S3 with 1 S3 fan in push position running at 250mhz at approx. 500gh/s
1 - S3 with 1 S3 fan in push position running at 212.5mhz at approx. 425gh/s

1. see highlighted. You meant that you clip off one or both of the rails?
2. Did you try delta at 350 mhz on S5? If you did, I am not sure what the result was as far as dB is concerned (there are free android and iphone apps that measure this). I am already at 1000GH (337.5 mhz) with quiet (46 dB) Noctua/Scythe combo, so for me it wouldn't make sense to try Delta unless i can go to 350mhz or above.

what is the advantage of static instead of DHCP? You can reserve certain IP address even while using DHCP by linking it to your miner MAC.
1065 is a bit low at 350mhz.

Funny -- with 4.8.0 I ran the clocks back up to 350MHz, let them settle down, and got near enough as advertized.  Then dropped to 312.5, let them settle and got neighborhood 320GH/s.  Reinstalled 4.9.0, they settled OK, so dropped down to my target 306.25 and they came in near enough the expected 310GH/s.  Guess it's time to leave 'em alone! Smiley
Thought I might as well include a couple noise measurements.  I'm running the miners in a room containing six, the two S5 and four S3 (no other noise sources.)  They are arranged in pairs several feet apart.  I used an analog meter and took measurements 12" directly in front of the intake fan with the miner centers aprox 13" apart.  The measurements with the meter aimed directly at the intake fan were S3 61dB SPL and S5 65dB SPL (C weighted, all units running dual S3 fans.)  Room ambient from the entrance several feet away with the meter pointing towards room center was 57dB SPL.  So, I don't know what the solo SPL is of my modified S5, but it does appear to be 4dB louder than the S3.

I had to shave one of the guide rails on the plastic connector. It was in the middle instead of the end.

Just downloaded an app and with one of the delta fans on a S5 running at 350mhz, I'm getting 47dB at 1 meter away. The fan is running around 3000RPMs and temps are at 60C.

The sound level reading for all 4 machines is only 52 dB 1 meter away, with my current setup.

As is the case with most, my miner cannot stay in the house due to noise. I've seen where people have them in basement or in a garage. Any issues with insects or humidity and the S5? I've got a detached garage that is not climate controlled, and I'm pretty sure I need to move it out there.

Shouldn't be a problem but if there really are insects consider putting a bug screen on the fan. This will reduce airflow somewhat but might be better than having the heatsink clogged with dead bugs.

At bitmaintech   I want to buy 3 units your coupon system does not work correctly,
I have :
5 30 dollar coupon's
1 40 dollar coupon's
2 45 dollar coupon's

The website is not allowing me to mix the s-5 coupons.

so if I order 3 units.

my options are use 3 of the 30's for 90 off
use the single 40-------            - for 40 off
 use the 2 45 off ------------------ for 90 off

well I what to use the 2 45's and the one 40 for 130 off  the 3 pieces   .   I can't.

I hate shit like this.  I have the coupons I want 3 units and the programmer has done a slight fuck up by not allowing a mix of s-5 coupons.

Actually to anyone that has 1x 45 dollar coupon please send it to my bitmaintech account  philipma1957. I would then have 3x 45 dollar coupons. Allowing me to use 3 coupons on  3 units.

So to : bitmaintech  please give me a 45 dollar coupon  my name on you site is philipma1957 same as here.

I would then have 3 s-5 coupons and be able to get the best bang for my buck.
Or tell your web developer to allow any and all  s-5 coupons to be used on the same order.

Please look at these coupons I should be able to use the 2x 45's and the 1x 40 for 130 off my 3 unit order.  I can't.  If you send me a 45  it will fix the issue.

Think they need to be purchased in a minimum of 2, 2 orders would not allow 3.

no you can buy 1 or 2 or 3  but if I do an order of 2 and an order of 1 I lose on shipping.

Shipping for 3 s-5's is  96 via fedex.

Shipping for 2 s-5's is 76 shipping for 1 s-5 is 46 or 122 if I break up the order into 1 + 2.

this is a no brainer for them to fix.

Or if anyone wants 3x   30 usd coupons for 1x  45 dollar coupon please pm me.

I emailed info@bitmaintech.com and yoshi@bitmaintech.com and one of them took pity on me and gave some coupons just for asking.

Explain your situation but keep it short! they are busy and get tons of email.

good luck -- i'd send you one but i only have $30 coupons..
