it is unlikely that S6 will be a huge revelation-most likely 0.4Gh/w or slightly below.
3.6Th at ~0.4Gh/w=1440w, at the limit of a typical 15w circuit at 115V.
I would be surprised if it will be something drastically more efficient.

Also, don't expect to pay less than $1500 shipped for it. It is NOT going to be a bargain because BMT large box machines never are.

Do anyone have an I/O board V1.4? I have two of them, v1.01 (from the left, with sticker on the beeper) and v1.4. v1.01 has 16pin connectors to connect hashing boards, v1.4 - 18 pin. How can I connect the cable which is also 16pin to not damage the hashing board?..

Have had two S5 running flawlessly for three weeks and today experienced an issue (batch four, OE file system, CGminer 4.9.0, 306.25 MHz clock).  One of the two appeared to have frozen.  Perhaps half a day elapsed while both controller and Hash appeared stuck.  Discovered the problem by observing lower than expected Hash on Eligius and traced it back to the specific S5 by addressing it, whereupon it displayed the miner status page (without my logging in or selecting it), but was unresponsive to GUI selections.  I shut down the PSU for sixty seconds, fired it up again, and back to normal.  It now once again appears fine.

Noticed today my Westhash account was down ~2TH/s.  Did a visual on the miners and all appeared fine.  Tried addressing the two S5s and neither responded.  Power cycled both, checked their status (as well as the S3s), and all was back to normal.  The temps are 42/44, 46/46 and neither has been o/c'd (at least, not since Bitmain shipped them.)  The power supplies are CX750M with all four PCI-E connectors populated, the file system is the Jan 7 version, CGminer is 4.9.0, and the clock is 306.25MHz.

PS. Took a look around and it appears Batch 4 is sold out and I see no mention yet of a Batch 5.

Just discovered another failure, just one of them this time -- was frozen displaying the miner status page. Just raised both clocks to 312.5MHz, can't imagine why that would make a difference, but trying it anyway.

I have a feeling that its to do with westhash and generally altcoin mining as a frozen controller isn't a typical error we see. What could be happening is that on coin / block / whatever change, its flooding the controller with inappropriately low difficulty shares which is causing it to lock up.

So, the wave inverter would be powered by 12VDC batteries?  Why not power the S5 from the batteries?  The S5 needs a common 12vdc bus I think they said.  So, batteries to the 12V bus connector board and the power supplies charging the batteries.

Oh, you probably fire up a gas engine generator.  You'd need quite a few 12vdc batteries to drive miners for 2-6 hours.

Be an interesting experiment - take a miner to a fully charged car battery and flip a series switch then watch how long it keeps hashing while taking stats on remaining voltage and hashrate until it dies.

You definitely want a sine wave inverter powering a computer power supply and if you shop around they're not that much more expensive than a modified (stepped) sine wave model.  I see ones on eBay like a Cotek SK-1500 for under $200.  Look for ones with built-in chargers as some are just inverters.

That said, it's a fairly common practice to run office or home computers on modified sine wave UPS units.  As they typically last 15 minutes or so during a power outage, that may be an exception.  I've seen modded UPS units with external batteries that will last for days under load so that might be an alternative.

No harm to trying one, if it makes your power supply buzz or overheat, that would be a no go.

the simple answer.... because they can. The market will bare it.

At this point there are really only 2 options for home miners... Bitmain and SP and Bitmain is less than SP.

The Avalon 4.1s are nice for home miners as well.  Just a bit more expensive, but extremely quiet for 1+ TH/s.   I have a mixture of Bitmain S3s, S5s, and Avalon 4.1s.

I originally had 9 S3s at my office, but have since brought them home and replaced them with the Avalon 4.1s since they are much quieter and virtually have almost no sound at all since noise is the concern at the office.

Who's the North American supplier for Avalon 4.1?

It depends on ambient temp also. My ambient temp is around 28 degrees C and the S3+ when it gets going is between 60 and 70db. Very loud.

Do we know that the described Difficulty issue is a known controller lockup cause?  This is not an attack, it's just not clear Bitmain has described what the misbehavior might be with a difficulty mismatch.  My view of this issue is obviously going to be different between a compatibility problem with Nicehash/Westhash Vs a generic problem.  If it is a compatibility problem, I think it reflects back on Bitmain to try harder to match their products to real world product usage.  My intent is to purchase a general purpose SHA-256d miner, not an exclusively BTC miner!  Mining is just too expensive to be limited to BTC.
