All I know is that BitFury is going to have 0.2W/GH miners online pretty darn soon, contradicting their statement.
Who do you think knows more about the status of those magical chips - the people who would make them or..... [with all due respect].... you? Ok... Since they know so much, is that why they raised their prices? Knowing a competitor cannot compete is good cause to jack your prices up and fuck your loyal customers over...

Most people would call that "lying". Others might call it lieing, but that's because they spell poorly. While I can't vouch for the authenticity of that listing, there was an unofficial S3++. It was one of the many revisions to S3/S3+ but didn't come with a name change. Very strange. Was it a test of BM1834 on the 1832 boards, or a preproduction prototype of the string design?

Who do you think knows more about the status of those magical chips - the people who would make them or..... [with all due respect].... you? Well dogie, I guess you are right for that part. I would like to point out that BitMain is offering a 2 month pre-order for products that they have shipped over 2 months ago. Not only have they marked up the price, but they have basically guaranteed a very profitable hardware liquidation for themselves. There is no doubt that in 2 months time, the AntMiner S5 will not only lose its place as one of the most efficient miners, but next generation miners will be taking their places during the summer of 2015. I recall seeing a thread in this section giving estimates for the arrival of next-gen hardware (AsicMiner, despite friedcat's dissapearance: April, SP-Tech: Summer, BitFury: Summer). BitMain made a very vague post on FB regarding "intelligence" on their competitor's decision not to mass-produce chips. Surely any competitor would keep such information private, and not only would BitMain refrain from posting such matters because it would give away that they are "hearing-in" on insider matters. Not to mention that there are many, many competitors in this industry.

Very strange. Was it a test of BM1834 on the 1832 boards, or a preproduction prototype of the string design? We have done a small batch of S3++ in the domestic market, which employee the string power design on the BM1382 chip. ( P.S. That was in a reply to you )

I don't know how I missed that one. The 0.588J/GH spec they're quoting on that auction seems very good though, it'd be interesting to see some pictures. I'm guessing 16 chips in a chain?

Didn't we recently find out over on the AsicMiner thread that a major backer for bitmain and AM is the same person? That would make sense then that one would know intimate details of the others production leads. Although, no guarantees that it is AM they are talking about, pure speculation.

Who do you think knows more about the status of those magical chips - the people who would make them or..... [with all due respect].... you? You're making too many assumptions. We dont even know what company is being talked about, for all I know its KnC. Or AM. We dont who was allegedly talking about the unknown company, but even if we assume its a fab (whom I highly doubt would disclose such info), we dont know if said unknown company didnt decide to fab elsewhere. And if course we dont know if bitmain isnt just exploiting the AM trainwreck by telling a vague story to jack up their prices on pretty far out preorders. Bitmain built its reputation on shipping from stock, I see thats out the window now. Might not be the only change.

annnnnd the price went up again haha $419 now As long as people are buying... In a way, the internet makes it really simple to do supply&demand gaming. Get a sale? Up the price by N%, then every t interval, drop by M<N% to a pre-specified floor. Even if people figure that out, you're always going to get at least your minimum price, and if demand is high enough people will just get into a 'rush' to get the miner at the price specified at that time before somebody else does (which bumps it back up, making you have to wait again). Not saying that's what's happening, by the way - but at least it can't be explained by exchange swings

annnnnd the price went up again haha $419 now At $411, bitmain's logic was that BTC value should rise to $364 per coin on the back of the competitor not taping out and therefore the factored in diff increase not materialising as predicted (in order to match the original $320 price in BTC). I have to say, they have a point since BTC has been rising today, but to be proved right, BTC has to rise to that level in the next few days (even hours!). That beggars the question, is it worth buying gear now or buying coins?

If they are right, (and I am begining to believe they are!), then that'd amount to shooting oneself in the foot! For starters, these rigs were actually up for sale at $320, that's for sure! I actually posted here before they themselves annouced here!

Coincidentally, this is scheduled for the same time pigs should also fly, hell freezes over, and the Maple Leafs win another cup. Well the last one was a little far-fetched, let's go with make it past 2nd round playoffs.

Yup they were definitely listed at that price for a bit this morning - I was contemplating getting two to replace a couple SP20's that I have running significantly underclocked to cut down on heat/noise. The S5's, with a good replacement fan, are much quieter. I was just wondering if I could wait a few weeks (had been planning on looking for someone willing to swap or sell the SP20s and buy used S5s), and Bitmain made up by mind for me by increasing the price. Oh well.
