BITMAIN ANTMINER S5: The New Standard

Only Available at bitmaintech.com

Published on December 22th, 2014

Just over a year ago, Bitmain released its ground-breaking Antminer S1 to the market. Miners no longer had to sacrifice space, noise levels and hashing power in order to mine. The S1 became the staple of the home miner, before being upgraded to the Antminer S3 7 months later.

Today, Bitmain is proud to announce its 3rd generation chip in conjunction with its 9th product: the Antminer S5.

1) Chip Specifications: BM1384
Bitmain’s 3rd generation Bitcoin mining ASIC, the BM1384 provides significant improvements over the previous BM1382 chip. Hashrate per   at voltage 0.75V has been increased over 20% while reducing power consumption by 30%. This improvement is the result of months of hard work and investment in the Bitcoin ecosystem.

2) ANTMINER S5
Building upon the foundation from the S1 and S3, the Antminer S5 retains the same small form factor of previous miners, but, with the more efficient BM1384 chips. The S5 uses 1 fan for quieter home operation and features multiple improvements over the strong S3 design.

Specifications
Hash Rate: 1155 GH/s ±5%
Power Consumption: 590 W (at the wall)
Power Efficiency: 0.51 J/GH (at the wall)
Rated Voltage: 12V
Dimensions: 298 mm x 137 mm x 155 mm
Cooling: 1x 12038 fan
Operating Conditions: 0 °C to 35 °C
Certified By: FCC / CE
Network Connection: Ethernet

Notes
1.   Power consumption figures vary with your PSU’s efficiency, the ambient operating temperature and the accuracy of the power meter.
2.   PSU: A power supply unit is not included, and you will need to provide an ATX PSU. There are 4 PCI-e connectors for +12V DC input and all four are required. Do not connect more than one PSU to the same hashing board.
3.   When better power efficiency is needed in the future due to higher network difficulties, you may want to buy some special PSUs 9V DC with more than 10A output, which will allow you to have a 0.2J/GH mining efficiency, but at lower hashing speed.

A New Cooling Solution:
  • Heat will be dissipated from the top of the chips, which are powered in a chain style design on the PCB. This PCB layout concentrates the heat onto one side of the board, making heat diffusion efficient.

http://www.dogiecoin.com/bitmain-antminer-s5---360-degree-view.html

  • Two customized aluminium heat sinks draw all the heat to the middle of the miner, and allow the use of just one fan to keep the S5 cool and quiet.

FAQ and Technical Support

Dogie's comprehensive setup guide in super HD!

Configuration
Quote
Wiring:
  • Prepare the paperclip for the PSU's 24 pin connector.
  • Plug in the four PCI-E cables to the miner.
  • Plug in an ethernet cable from the AntMiner to you router.

Configuration:
  • Power on the power supply using its switch at the back.
  • Make sure that your router's DHCP table is turned on. You can assume it is already on if you have a typical router.
  • Using a browser, navigate to your router and find the IP it has assigned the S5 and navigate to that IP.
  • Login using "root" as both the username and password.
  • Navigate to the page Status -> Miner Configuration. Enter your pool information in the below format.
  • Select "Beeper ringing" to "false" and click "Save & Apply".
  • Navigate to the page "Miner Status" to check mining has started.

FAQ
Quote
ProblemSolution
"x".in.a.row.on.miner.configuration.page- There is a faulty chip - nothing we can do. Hash rate will be affected by ~1.5%.
Almost all "x" on one row of "Chips"- A hashing board may be mispowered or faulty. Try power cycling the miner and recheck your
cabling and PSU.
How do I change the login password?- Navigate to System -> Administration. Enter the current password and the new one twice.
What is the SSH login?- Username is "root", password is "admin".
Can I turn the beeping off when the miner stops mining?- No, but you can reduce how often it beeps. Navigate to Miner configuration and turn "Beeper
Ringing" to false.
I can connect to the AntMiner but its not hashing?- Set the protocol to DHCP via Navigate to Network -> Interfaces -> WAN -> Edit. If you
don't want to use DHCP, navigate to Network -> Settings and make sure "Gateway" is set to the
IP of your router.
What temperatures should I aim for?- Try and achieve <50 for best hash rates, and <60 for long lifetimes. Temperatures should not
be let to rise above 80C.
Where can I get the latest firmware?- Download from Bitmain's site.
How can I tell what firmware version I have now?- Navigate to System -> Overview and look at "File System Version".
How do I install the latest firmware?- Download firmware as above. Navigate to System -> Upgrade and click "browse". Select the
downloaded file and click "Flash image". Do NOT interrupt this process or you will brick the unit.
How do I reset settings to default?- Use a paperclip to press the reset button - located next to the ethernet connector - down for
5-10 seconds. The miner will then reset with stock settings.
My.power.supply's.cables.are.braided.or.aren't.color.coded- See below diagram for pin-outs.

Hello all,

Bitmain has employed me to help liaise with the community and later provide technical support. They have done this in order to help provide:

1) timely technical support
2) provide better feedback (if I don't know, I can find out from the people within Bitmain who will)
3) provide product and sales input from you guys directly into the company. If something is going wrong, YOU can fix it
4) provide native English press releases - less ManderEnglish, more sense.

This is a paid position, however it will in no way affect my independence or freedom in being critical towards Bitmain outside of this thread. My contract specifically stipulates:

Quote
Dogie will speak on behalf of BITMAIN and will not criticize BITMAIN in these threads. Dogie still reserves the right to criticize BITMAIN in his other threads. Both parties acknowledge that this relationship has no impact whatsoever on BITMAIN’s rating or standing in “Dogie’s ‘Manufacturer Trustworthiness” thread.

This means I won't sit here and reply to every post saying Bitmain is a scam, don't buy from Bitmain etc etc, in this thread. It does NOT prohibit me from saying that in my own threads, if that is what I believe. It also has absolutely no impact on their rating in the Manufacturer trustworthiness thread [in which Bitmain just went down 10 points].

Dogie support for this product has expired.

We are hopping for less Power Consumption and less price.

Now i cross my finger that S4 will be low to 500 USD to buy in bulk.

Looks really good. Will wait to see how it performs in the hands of miners. Hopefully all goes well and I will get me a few of these.

Not impressed by the tag line: "The absolutely promising bitcoin chip in the market".
Really? I can only hope no advertising buro was paid to come up with that slogan  Shocked

Specs look like a modest step forward. Pretty much leading the pack today, but probably not enough to compete with upcoming AM/BF/SP rigs, but much will depend on their time to market.

I was ready to order, but now a little disappointed. Specs not far away from rivals, relative high price, without shipping, no PSU.
Looks like S3, so maybe the S6 will look like S4 :-)

Specs ok but don't like the open design. I wish the price were lower also.  Undecided
