True, you need 100 BTC at 10K a piece to equal a million, but obviously OP has wealth outside of BTC...if not, that would be insane.

You say to be a millionaire so it means that 100 BTC must cost by 2020 around 10,000$
And just for 5 years it must change(or increase ) by 2,000$ every year.
I think it is not possible at the moment.

I would be purchasing as many BTC as you can right now...this is a great time to buy and the more BTC you have the better your chances are at becoming a BTC millionaire by 2020.

My guess is that you will need ~500 BTC to be a BTC millionaire in 2020.

Buying 500 Bitcoin these days cost a fortune, maybe if you have lots of money it can worth.
So in 2020 if the price hits 1,000$ or around it it can give you lots of profit

I don't have 100 bitcoins but I really, really hope the OP will be a millionaire by 2020 by owning 100 bitcoins because that will mean I get a pretty life changing sum of money too, although not a million.

I think 2020 is too soon for 10,000 USD coins though (which is what the price would have to be to be a millionaire with 100 bitcoins), maybe by 2025 but I'd love to be proved wrong. I think in 5 years we could see $2500 bitcoins. 10,000 USD seems a bit of a massive jump though.

That is a massive jump from ~280$ to 2,500$. I dont think it will reach that only if semething unusual will happen on 2020.
But if it will be the situation like these years now, then it is hard even to reach 1,000$

Look at the price chart for the last 6 years. Bitcoin could easily move up 9x in a month given the right trigger. Speculative selling fervour has ceased and leveraged selling has almost returned to where it was before the last bubble.

It may never bubble again, but with the new financial instruments coming online allowing investors to buy directly from their share portfolio, perhaps the release to much fanfare of COIN etf, ruling out a sudden move up would be silly given it's history of such parabolic violent price rises.

It is still the most exciting part of my portfolio Smiley

If the price would still be around 270$ in 2020 i honestly would not be super surpriced, perphaps i would raise one eyebrow, but nothing beyound that.

I would not be super surprised too, it can happen as we see the current price is not what we want.
And we didn't speculate that it would be so.
So I think it would go 500$ - 800$ maximum by 2020 (5 years from now is not much)

If you're willing to risk it considering your can sustain yourself through other sources of income , it may be worthwhile, but as someone already mentioned, by 2020, you can either become a millionaire

I don't think that $500 in 5 years is possible. In 2020 we will be already in the 6.25 BTC/block era vs 25BTC right now.
Even if difficulty will stay pat (it won't), miners will go out of business with price less than 4X288X0.7=$806.4
I allowed a coefficient of 0.7 to indicate that some miners would still be making money if prices would be 70% of current.

So, either >$800/BTC or bust (single digits) in 2020.

The next alt will smash through the ceiling compared to the last one which was based on practically nothing except rumours and mt gox...

I'd anyone wants to bet the price will be the same as now in 5 years, I'll gladly take that bet

When Bitcoin goes up, everyone thinks up, and when sideways, everyone thinks sideways. During the last bubble, people were imagining 10,000 USD, now they're imagining range-bound for the next 5 years, lol.

First time we're in agreement so far in this thread. Most people are very unimaginative (and uninformed). They can't really think for themselves.

Bitcoin price will reach it's full potential when more of the above realize the power of this tech and jump aboard. The more mainstream it gets the more major dumps I think we will see and the more dumps we see the more people lose faith and leave bitcoin.

Most likely yes, you will be millionaire by them.
People tend to forget how the halving in reqards affects price.
Currently with 25 btc per block, we have an average of 10% inflation
wich is considered A LOT for a normal fiat economy.
What causes bitcoin to not fall is the huge demand wich will continue to rise
dramatically, while the halving will greatly reduce the inflation rate in the following years.
So yes, you will be a millionaire. Bitcoin is the future.
And you're part of it.

Enjoy.

as Satoshi said, you will either be a millionaire or have nothing by 2020

(you can easily find the quote)

I think you mangled the quote. Here's what I believe you're referencing:

...  In a few decades when the reward gets too small, the transaction fee will become the main compensation for nodes.  I'm sure that in 20 years there will either be very large transaction volume or no volume.

First off, he's talking about 2030, not 2020. Second, he's talking about transaction volume, not exchange-rate. Obviously, though, if transaction volume is "very large" in 2030, it means bitcoin did indeed achieve market success; thus, it's reasonable to assume it commands a good deal of purchasing power.

And third, let's also note that he was saying that it'll be a few decades before transactions fees become the main compensation for "nodes" (mining-nodes). This design/intent is directly contrary to what people who want to keep the blocksize at 1MB at currently saying.

Bitcoin is the first monetary system to credibly offer perfect information to all economic participants.
