100 bitcoins is definitely a nice stash! Heck, I am nowhere even close to this and I still feel good about my stash!

I have set my longer term holding goals for the year 2020. I don't think that we will see anything very, very serious happening in the Bitcoin community before this year, or at least close to this year. This thing just needs time to develop properly and for the people to gain trust into this technology.

Also, the year 2020 is as well a year of the next halving so many things should be happening by then.

I think that holding even 50, or heck even a 25 bitcoins should bring a nice fortune to its holders after a year 2020!

Mark my words!!!

21 should do it. There will only be 1 million people that can own 21, in fact less due the lost coins (the supply will be less than 21) and the total coins will never be mined on our lifetimes, so by owning 21 you are part of an elite of holders. Of course, you are not a monster whale like the super early day guys, but it's a great achievement and should put you on retirement early.

I agree that 21 is a nice number and should be a goal to go for. But I wouldn't call that being part of an elite. The elite is holding thousand, tens of thousand or hundred thousands of coins.
And being able to retire with 21 coins depends on how old you are now and how long it will take to reach mid 5 figures for 1 BTC.
For instance 50k for 1 BTC and you're fine with an total amount of 21 BTC. At least if you wanna enjoy the rest of your life somewhere is south east asia, Thailand for instance.

Well if someone has 21 bitcoins then he has 1/1Million of total coins in the market.
I don't think that 21 bitcoin can make someone millionaire but never say never.
I would say that 100BTC can bring a good profit if bitcoin will become more popular in upcoming years.

How about looking at 21, 210, 2100 or 21000 coins? 100 is such an odd number

If you have 2100 coins, then you are in the Vladimir club (does anybody around here still remember that discussion? ;-)

only one thing is certain, in 2020 with the third halving, miners are forced to leave if the price don't increase, so the price will increase for sure, otherwise bitcoin will die at 100%

so 2020 is the last eyar for bitcoin to remain in this stagnation

Interesting angle on it Amph, very thought provoking. Thanks!
Oh please, if the price would stay stable some miners would quit and the difficulty would adjust making the remaining miners profitable again.

yeah at the cost of having a vulnerable network, in 2020 mininers need something like at the very least 300 in btc to be profitable

if we return to the previous point, the network already need to lose almost 1/3

this is not taking into account the new efficiency....i can give you that the miners don't need at all the last ath to mine, this will be true for many halvings to come

Yes I agree with you two that 21 bitcoins really is a nice number. Of course, 21 can't compare with all of the early holders holdings, but they took a great risk and they deserve the reward.

I do hope that one day people will say the same about us! They took a great risk by holding 21 bitcoins and they deserve the reward! Smiley

I also think that $50,000 a coin us very reachable in the next 10 years!

They did not take any risk because of the miniscule size of relevant investment. Maybe they just had an insight that was better than average.
You can find here on btctalk somewhere posts of a guy who was selling 10,000 bitcoins for $50 or 50,000 bitcoins for $20, I don't remember exactly.

If you have 2100 coins, then you are in the Vladimir club (does anybody around here still remember that discussion? ;-)

So how many are aspiring to join this exclusive group? How many are already in it? Vladimir has stated that he thinks BTC2100 coins is a good number to acquire going forward. That's 1% of 1% of all the coins ever. It means the maximum number of members of this club would be 10,000 if it were formed 125 years from now and all the coins were divided equally. Right now it's not even half that.

Unless we get a freak dip into the pennies I'm probably way too late on the scene to make it into those ranks. However I'll keep dollar cost averaging until things get too rich for my taste (a long ways from the $10.65 it is right now).

A few members of the club I would suspect:

Satoshi (maybe x10 or x100)
pirate
knightmb
zhoutong?
Gavin

Who else? Obviously the entire bitcoin rich list is there. If enough committed to join the club and not sell until coins top $1,000,000 that would make a lot of new billionaires. And Forbes already tracks the bitcoin rich list so it would be no big deal to merge it with the Forbes 400. http://www.forbes.com/sites/jonmatonis/2012/06/22/the-bitcoin-richest-accumulating-large-balances/

So how many members of this group do you think exist?

You're talking about this discussion, aren't you?

I don't know mate, but they have taken the risk in my opinion. Someone that had bought 1,000 bitcoins at $1 has taken a risk in my opinion. You know, you did have to have balls to put $1,000 into Bitcoin when almost no one has heard of it. Let alone to put $5,000 for 1,000 BTCs when it was around $5, etc..

What do you think? I think I might be close. I'm guessing $10,000 per bitcoin by then.
How did you managed to get that amount of Bitcoins Shocked
Are you one of the early adopters of bitcoin where mining is really easy or are you just spend all of your live savings on Bitcoin Roll Eyes
Either Bitcoin is dead or alive by 2020
But i bet you will be one of the new millionaires by 2020 Grin

Well I agree with you that everything is relative and it just depends at which moment have you gotten into the game! Of course that the earliest players haven't risked almost anything except the time of downloading a wallet and letting it run in the background of their system!

So they haven't even spent $5.02 that you are talking about!

That's very optimistic.
$10.000 per coin is 2 years is a brave bet.
Give it 5 years (still very optimistic), and I would be with you.

That is a high price I hope it will be. But I dont think it won't be so high.

That is just a big dream. I am just happy with my 1 BTC.

It is not much but 320 USD is just a lot.

i don't kown, everyone would have said the exact same thing you said in this post, two years before the last ath

"1k" is way too optimistic for 2013, but it happened at the end, we increased by ten fold
