I will forever cherish my Most Creative title as a miner inventor. Thank you Sfards and if a lava lamp miner ever does come into existence, I hope I will be considered as a beta tester. Best of luck to you! I give you huge credit on this. It was a idea that made us all smile I think. It was one of those ideas that is crazy enough it could actually even work. I hope to see someone mod a miner to provide heat to a lava lamp. I will be honest you have me thinking about putting a old lava lamp I know of in my pile of stuff behind a miner to see if I can get the heat. But I don't think I can achieve the hotness (which is normally a good thing ). lavalamp bulbs are 25W in the majority of lamps. If you used a 24/7 heat source and deposited most heat to the lava (rather than the sides of the metal base) it could be functional with 15-20W worth of mining power, possibly just some stick miners glued to the bottom part of the glass base

You can get a 100W Grande Lava Lamp for $100. http://lavalamp.com/grande-lava-lampYou could probably get 250GH/s out of that much heat. Add a TOR router, a p2pool node, a controller, some LEDs, and you could ask $250 for it easily.

I was able to keep it in wax state (used bulb to warm it at first). But it would just stay in wax state in liquid form at bottom. It was not producing enough heat to have it going up to top of lava lamp. I guess I will have to look into more heat maybe tomorrow to see if that will do it. I was running the Avalon Nano pretty hot for it.

Wouldn't the existing Gridseed Orb/Infinity/USB Mini/Thing aka LightningAsic LA100M be decent candidates in terms of form factor?

Over a three day weekend I made my version of a Crypto Miner "Lava-lamp". Instead of wax I just used E3 submersion liquid & a small greed-seed board. The bubbles created by the heat & lights from LED's worked nicely. Very aesthetically nice. Later took it all apart with intentions of reusing the expensive E3 Liquid (never did).

I dream of a room filled with OgNasty's Lava Lamp miner and BitFury's Light Bulb miners ... I think I have an old lava lamp sitting around somewhere... I might have to play around with it a bit to see what I could get going for fun.

I might have to play around with it a bit to see what I could get going for fun. I found mine and played with it. One Avalon Nano would keep it hot but not hot enough for it to make wax float and come down. If you had a few usb miners it might be able to do it.

What magic word did you use in the email ? I am still not able to get them. The clear disregard to customers/potential email might be a sign in any case. Will follow up again and probably just forget them. We obtained samples from SP-Tech but would have loved to look and Sfards chips considering they were providing a complete dev kit.

Somehow the following sentence in your email helps companies pay attention: I want to buy lots and lots of stuff from you. Trust me, with zeus it got me a reply within the hour (while 3 other mails for weeks went unanswered).

Not very smart of the sales team considering that individuals might just be interesting in evaluating the chips before showing their hand. Will just leave it as is. Will not be following up any longer. All the best to them

So much noise and now silence... At least they corrected those unfortunate pin names in datasheet...

Well, they recived sample chips at least two months ago. Developers board over a month ago. Things must be not going well if they can't introduce miner. Or just they don't want to sell miners.

Hopefully some time prior to shipment! It seems to me that questions that involve "when" are better asked in the "Speculation" sub-forum where the premise (i.e. speculative guesses) are the norm.

Not lots and lots of stuff, but some bare chips if they are working as expected and if the bulk price is right. Samples shipped today, the DHL tracking number have an estimated delivery date on wednesday. I'll update the dropbox tomorrow, there were 3 misplaced tracks in the schematics.
