Considering ASICMINER is a multi-million dollar company, I do think its time to make an official site for ASICMINER. I understand they have a lot on their hands and doing a great job with their timetable but with the amount of money they have, would it really cost that much to create and maintain an official site? In my opinion this thread is way too cluttered.

I agree, when even the smallest newsstand worth $5000 has a website why doesn't ASICMINER, the hottest property in Bitcoin ATM?  Huh

At least open a Facebook page, that costs nothing.

For me it is an amazing experience to become part in such a valued company that has even no website but just has grown by community support (and of course that glorious rockstar friedcat - no envy please).

but as I just finished the phase of being read-only, bought some shares now--I must admit, that we, the shareholders, have a large potential to rock it even more ...

when I see asicminer from a business view, it might be reflected by the group, my company is part of. There is the big rockstar, the big boss of the group, who had the vision, who kept the stones rolling all the time, and around him are distributors all around the world, having all a sales, a marketing and an it/support team. production and development is done in the corporate headquarters--and in case good inventions are brought along from the distris, they are worked into the production cycle as well.

to keep the pile in an organizable manner, there are divisions of world regions, like EMEA, NORAM, APAC.

headquarters talk to the divisions, the divisions organize their regions/countries with the distributors / subsidiaries.

----

the thingy is, we are all on our own. but it is not only a thing of first come first serve. I bet, if someone takes the heart, hands and brain to build anything properly, what might be:

  • an application, that provides transition of shares by entering the private key (-hash)
  • a website with I18N support, providing a information, a service desk and easy webshop integration for the distries (according to the actual L10n of the visitor)
  • a good example of repackaging big bulk packages into nice consumerfriendly retail boxes, I mean just: be a distri

And whatever will be presented in the round, might be discussed, praised and/or copied somewhere else in the world.

(I know , that quite the same list was written some posts ago, but I wanted to put in my own words. So I praised and copied that list in some way  Cool )

----

Additionally I want to point out, that AM is the biggest ASIC producer worldwide advocate for bitcoin worldwide, because of the hashing power, but even more because of the front edge of development and producing (and delivering Wink ) ASICs and ASICproducts designed for even make the hashing network grow. That's responsibilty - no toy. Who can't be more interested in growing and commercializing that currency ...

... not friedcat at the moment, he is heavily occupied by rewriting share ownership, sending dividends and managing research and development and production of chips and products. (In fact I am quite curious to know about helping hands and partnerships he already meshed up to keep the wheel turning.)

----

fortunatly, when there is a big mass of shareholders, there will be only few, that have the time, vision and energy to successfully complete such a project. it is up to us, that those people meet each other here in that thread (or at least in the forum) ... ... ...  but stop, I have written a big pile of pimple at the moment while I dislike listening monologues of other a bit as well. In case of bothering, please just see this post as an enthusiastic "hello asicminer world, i am happy to join in".

Why do you say hardware sales is a short-term opportunity?

I would say it's the other way around. Income from mining will not go much above what it is currently, because of the 51% issue. Income from selling mining hardware is still far from saturated. People are bidding up USB miners to +$400 on eBay! The demand is huge and I think it would be a lot more profitable for shareholders if ASICMiner were to focus more on hardware sales now when there is such a large demand to satisfy.

The simple explanation is that AM is far behind in technology with their current models. 130nm is comparable to a Pentium III and when the competitors are researching i7 chips, it's only a matter of time before you can't give away the blades that AM currently produces.

To catch up, AM needs to design a new chip and we have no information about the current status of that, whether it's already financed, or what timeframe we're looking at.

We know one thing and that is that friedcat recently announced that they have decided to go with 65nm on the second generation chip. That tells at least me that they have some ways to go, and Bitbury for one is just days away from having a working 65nm chip. At that point, Bitfury will be filling that urgent need for ASICs and AM will have to play catchup either by lowering prices or skipping a generationand going straight for something like 28nm to remain competitive.

So yes, AM should sell everything including the kitchen sink while they still can. Two months from now, Bitfury may be pumping 65nm ASICs into the market (they contractually delivers in October but states it will be delivered in August). At that point, those existing blades will be worth less than their packaging material because anyone can jump across the street at get far superior performance at a tentatively much lower price (120GH/s for just north of $2K anyone?).

Impressive numbers; at 600gh/s for 10k they will be a tad more than HALF as cost effective as ASICminer and their 1,000gh/s for 10k costs

Yeah, where could I order that again? Last I checked, AM sold 10GH for 50BTC~$6K. For 120GH you pay $72K with AM.

But hey, if your math makes you pay 36 times more than from across the street, I still have those Pentium III chips at $1K a pop.

It still costs time, which is not trivial.

It also can generate awareness and thus business. And who says friedcat has to do everything himself?

It seems that many people here have forgot Bitfountain, which is major shareholder of ASICMINER. Friedcat doesn't need to think about future of ASICMINER that much, because he, and who ever owns Bitfountain with him, have gathered bucketloads of BTC in dividents from ASICMINER. What ever he plans do to next, he doesn't need to do it through ASICMINER company, he has enough capital in Bitfountain to do what ever he thinks is good for him and other owners of Bitfountain. As a major shareholder, Bitfountain can close ASICMINER down any time they want to and continue operations within Bitfountain.

If you have learned anything from the ASIC story so far is that the bird in your hand is worth two in the bush. Old technology usually has the advantage of having larger error margins and a lower production cost. Moving into better technology is certainly important, but don't underestimate the opportunity cost, if a better technology means you're not spending money on hash power growth.

So yes, AM should sell everything including the kitchen sink while they still can. Two months from now,.... those existing blades will be worth less than their packaging material because anyone can jump across the street at get far superior performance at a tentatively much lower price (120GH/s for just north of $2K anyone?).
Don't know if you're an optimist or a pessimist. At least you're extreme.

Average AM hashrate for last 6hrs is 30.57TH

Where did you get that? Looking at the asicminercharts website - it shows 25.27 and /live/ shows 25.20?

Did I miss a place to bookmark?

It was the bottom chart on the /live/ page. At the time, no other chart was loading. Now, it's the only chart not loading...

Ah, you mean those shares where you pay 2.5BTC~$325 for around 75MH/s? That sounds like a great deal. How much would I need to invest to get 120GH/s of that?

Oh, and I'll throw in free shipping on those Pentium III chips. Why aren't there any takers? At one point in time, they were the cream of the crop and nobody could deliver anything even close in performance.
