I sold spendbitcoins in July 2014. The new owners seem to have made no changes to it nor do they seem to respond to queries. I apologise for the invonvenience.

Spend Bitcoins was one of the first bitcoin websites in the world. It was launched in May 2011 as one of the first ways to spend bitcoins at major companies such as Amazon and NewEgg by exchanging bitcoins for gift cards.

Over the following four years, Spend Bitcoins has grown into the world's largest directory of bitcoin accepting merchants.

I should also mention that feedback can be added on each seller so that you can shop with confidence. If you have spent bitcoins with anyone, please review them at spendbitcoins.com.
6  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Spend Bitcoins Beta Products Launch on: July 10, 2014, 02:45:17 PM
Justin--not sure what you mean about the 'knock on the door'.

We had to give up the 'buy bitcoins' service because the banks kept shutting our accounts without giving us reasons and it was taking all our resources just to keep setting up new accounts. We preferred to refer out to localbitcoins for that so we could come back to our main focus (besides, bitcoins SHOULD be decentralised in our opinion so that governments and banks can't just shut down a few vendors and halt trading).

This products section has been a year or more in the making and I'm so glad we are back on focus! Wink

.05 btc

Hi Wilderbeast. Minimum bid is 0.5 BTC. Is that what you meant?
12  Economy / Auctions / Top ad slot on Spend Bitcoins : over 1 million unique visits over last 12 months on: April 15, 2014, 03:47:05 AM
Description: Top ad slot (currently occupied by a google ad) at https://spendbitcoins.com/places/ across all spendbitcoins.xx domains (all countries) for 30 days from your payment being received.
Starting bid: 0.5 BTC
End date and time: Thursday April 24 0200 UTC
Payment methods accepted: Bitcoin
Additional information: spendbitcoins.com is the premiere site for people searching for places to spend their bitcoins. With over 1,000,000 unique visitors over the past 12 months, we could be driving those looking to spend bitcoins your way for 30 days!

All bids are for the actual amount you will pay (ie--not like an eBay bid where you say how much you would be willing to pay but only pay slightly over the next highest bidder).

We reserve the right to refuse any ad we find offensive or of any site that has a poor reputation. We also reserve the right to remove an ad and return the bitcoins at a pro-rated amount if the site linked to gains a bad reputation during the duration of the ad.

See our feedback at https://spendbitcoins.com/testimonials/ and the third party site http://bitcoinfeedback.com/viewuser.php?un=spendbitcoins&id=136 and bid with confidence.

We currently have over 9000 bitcoin accepting sites listed at http://spendbitcoins.com. Head over and take a look right now. We know you're itching to spend those coins!
14  Economy / Currency exchange / Buy bitcoins with cash in Australia on: March 04, 2014, 01:11:33 AM
Hi all,

I've just realised I haven't posted in this section in quite awhile as we have been working on several upgrades to our site.

If you are looking to buy bitcoins in Australia, http://spendbitcoins.com.au/buy is the easiest, quickest, and most trusted method. Just head on over, place an order to get a six digit reference # and our bank details, pop into a bank (make sure you verbally ask the teller to include your six digit reference #), and you'll have bitcoins within a few short hours at latest.
15  Economy / Goods / Re: Spend Bitcoins worldwide on: March 04, 2014, 01:06:55 AM
http://spendbitcoins.com for anyone who doesn't want to type it in.

Good to see you around Jeremy!

A couple of comments:
- Default country when clicking "Spend Bitcoins" should be "Any Country"
- When a country is selected, the filtration should reflect on the counts in the categories sidebar.  In other words, if I select "Australia", then "Gift Cards" should show a 0 on the sidebar.  Otherwise, I click on Gift Cards, and am confused when I see no results.
- Even better, make it more clear what filtration is in effect when performing a search.  "We found 0 places that accept Bitcoin in exchange for Gift Cards serving Australia."
- The full list including all categories shouldn't be sorted alphabetically - that gives incentive for people to come up with company names such as "AAA Auto Tuning" so they can show up first on the list.  Instead, sort by popularity (maybe sort by # of feedbacks given, then subsort by # of pageviews) or some other dynamic metric.  However, sort options should be available (sort by average feedback score, sort alphabetically, sort by popularity, etc).

That is all.  It looks like a clean site, and the categories will be VERY useful when I think "Hmm, I wonder where I can find X to buy with Bitcoins."

Hi SgtSpike,

Long time no talk. Thanks for the suggestions. We are working on all of this and much more. I hope everyone finds it as useful as you do.
16  Economy / Goods / Spend Bitcoins worldwide on: February 11, 2014, 01:17:32 AM
Hi everyone,

Wow, it's been a very long time since I have posted on the forums (more than six months!). A lot of changes have happened at Spend Bitcoins since then.

We now have what we believe is the the largest directory of bitcoin accepting sites in the world. If not at the moment, it should be in the next week or so (we have thousands of sites submitted and/or crawled over the last month just waiting for approval).

Most importantly, each and every bitcoin accepting site in our directory has the ability for users to post feedback. Since bitcoins are like internet cash, it's important to know the reputations of sellers, and we hope to contribute to this in a significant way.

As would be expected, our site is number one on google (at least for me) search results for the search "spend bitcoins". We hope that when people search for "spend bitcoins on electronics", etc, they will come to our site and be able to see both positive and negative reviews for bitcoin accepting electronics sites, for example.

If your site is not yet listed, please submit it for free now at https://spendbitcoins.com.au/add-business/. Please do not be alarmed if it says your site is already listed but it's not. This just means we have already crawled your page and it will be listed as soon as we approve it (hopefully within the week).

If you have shopped at any of the businesses on our site, please post feedback, whether positive or negative to help other shoppers know the reputation of bitcoin accepting sellers across the world.

Thank you so much for your continued support. We at Spend Bitcoins are very excited about the rapid spread of bitcoin around the world, and we want people to be able to shop with as much safety and confidence as possible!

There's a lot more coming on our site that will make shopping with bitcoin much, much easier. Watch this space! Wink

17  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [WTS] BTC or LTC (dwolla, bankwire, cash in mail, gold, silver, checks, other?) on: July 22, 2013, 06:26:10 AM
Hi, I want to sell BTC or LTC for fiat. (or gold/silver)

I have a small bank in the USA you can send wires to, or banks here in Thailand.

I will also accept Dwolla, cash in the mail (USA) or checks (USA).

I guess I can take gold and silver as well if the rates are fair.

Escrow is fine however you must pay the fees. My largest BTC for fiat sale was for $93,000 USD and largest BTC stock sale was over $200,000 both with no escrow, they sent first in both cases. If you do want to use escrow John K is pretty easy/fast to work with.

Please do not send me a message that you go buy for 10% under this exchange, because of your costs and fees. The whole point of doing this is to avoid exchanges, if I wanted to use an exchange I could do it myself. I do not need to sell, I am in no hurry.

I am bullish on BTC but I am expanding my mining operations significantly and have some bills due in a few months so that is why I am looking for sales.

Peace

Happy to buy. Check your PM, please. Smiley
18  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: SCAM ALERT: spendbitcoins.com / Jeremy West on: January 20, 2013, 02:04:33 PM
No, the 40 BTC was edited after the fact.  My post was also edited after the fact to reflect the high bid of 35 BTC by the previous bidder, not like the 40 BTC bid that was edited to be over the previous bid.  I never had a bid "up to 36 BTC."  The only bid I had was essentially "up to 66 BTC."

If we were to play that game, I could have edited my post to reflect 41 BTC

If only you had the sense to PGP sign, nobody could have modified your bid. Tsk tsk.

Why the fuck did you bump a thread over a year old?

<LOCK> <-oh, wait, I can't do that. ;(
19  Economy / Goods / Re: Spend Bitcoins on gold, silver, and other precious metals on: January 07, 2013, 10:46:59 AM
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but can you still buy on apmex through your site? Page didn't seem to load for me.

I know there are other methods to buy gold with bitcoins, but this should provide a much better price.

Hi there,

Unfortunately, no. We are unable to offer this service any longer. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience.

Highest Regards,
Jeremy
