1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [CARBON][SM] Carboncoin | For a Greener Future - Efficient+Secure+Sustainable on: July 11, 2017, 08:40:52 PM
Did I miss anything?

Pretty much spot on! Whitepapers are on course for completion as announced.

I am in a position to deliver some news:

The new protocol is intended to be administered and governed by groups of voting masternodes and is to include a revolutionary new Proof-of hashing scheme. All this will be confirmed in detail in the forthcoming documents.

A minimum coin holding will be required to operate any masternode, this amount is subject to change but to give an idea this will be at least 5M old coins' worth of new coins in the first year. The proper operation of a masternode shall be a profitable enterprise.

The new protocol brings together all the different initiatives we have put forward to date, only this time with the technology we need to make them happen right on the Carboncoin blockchain (the Carbonchain).

Please try to keep questions reserved for after the whitepaper release.

Best

bought a bit looks like this is something worth holding considering the longevity of the coin.

You probably wont regret that

All good dude, only there's actually a few people involved in the development, maintenance of the network. There's a few others involved in growing the user base and there are many holding coins.

Our development goal having gained control of the repository was to secure our blockchain at low hashrates. We did this using the same thing that holds most PoS coins together, but without the bloat of staking blocks. We achieved that a little over a year ago, in the most pragmatic way we had available to us.

The network is still working just fine, as is our android wallet.

Here's the thing - bitcoin is brilliant
and so we didn't feel the need to develop it past removing the temptation for transaction processors to compete with energy usage (or just making it work without the massive arbitrary computation). We're working to add services at this time because that's what we need. Developments to the security will be considered when the market capitalisation necessitates it, there's a plan in place. I'll just say again - Bitcoin is brilliant.

Please do not mistake "rising above it" as snobbishness. Having been watching the thread I'm sure you can understand the extent of the issue. As someone recent to the project you may not know that several attempts over the course of the past three years have been made to address the troll's claims and reason with it, unfortunately each time the campaign was re-escalated and the bogus claims were repeated. We're under no illusions about the troll being what it is unfortunately.

The Dalai Lama take home: If someone wishes to make written claims that some of your words are untrue, then no amount of further words will fix the problem.

The coins donated to the environment by the early participants remain untouched, the blockchain cannot tell lies.

Progress for us right now is nurturing relationships that can help this work and I can assure you it is being made, every day. However nothing is going to make it here until contracts are signed, or services developed; and it's tough, and it takes time. No comas going on that I'm aware of.

The owner of this thread's role is to moderate this thread, it doesn't matter who does it, it's following rules. We made it because it was required.

They got more than 2 percent. I assure u that they do hold much more of a carbon than sheeple thinks, but as long as the price is low as it is now the size of their holdings has a little to no weight on impartiality and fairness of distribution because everyone can amass as more carbon as they wish though more time may be needed. Note theres no activity in markets which proves the point that money does not change hands meaning everyone is deliberately overlooking this coin. Why? Seek whales among ur supporters and betrayers and ask them.

Each individual is urged not to own more than 2%. I would not stop any member of the team owning the maximum if they wished to pay what it cost to acquire it, moreover for three years of hard work, 2% of a coin valued at $370 000, isn't really all that much - remember these coins are not as a result of any premine and therefore would absolutely have to be acquired fair and square through either mining or trading.

EDIT: If you want to have a look at most of the cryptocurrencies in existence 2% of total circ is extremely low. Have a delve into some of the rich lists of some of the major cryptocurrencies.

Some 70% of the circulation of the coin has been placed into the hands of people new to cryptocurrencies in accordance with this 2% rule. This is a decent explanation for the absence of any sell-side depth on the exchange.

The lack of trading is due in part to the large gap between bid and offer price, and in part due to the fact that our business to business operations haven't even started yet.

The reality as was previously mentioned is that you could not get 2% right now if you wanted to at exchange, they are not available.

I do not know who you are referring to when you mention sheeple, that would imply some sort of mass participation, which I actually feel we have yet to see to any real extent yet. Yet, of course, is the big word there.

Here is the start of the story https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=465364.0, you should be able to complete most of your due diligence from starting there.

You may also like to check out the carboncointalk forum which is there for when we need it but populated with a great deal of useful information, as well as the twitter and facebook accounts which are easily discoverable from our homepage which you can find linked above or by googling Carboncoin.

You have had straight answers to all of your questions and failed to answer any questions asked of you, specifically regarding any intentions you may have. The only conclusion is that your intentions are not constructive and until you can show me otherwise you shall have no more of my attention. Best of luck with your chosen path.

Sorry who are you? and define Dev?

We have an original developer who no one knows, which I am sure you are aware affords us the same legal advantages as Bitcoin (cf. Satoshi Nakamoto)

We have had many others work on the project subsequently, and I have been instrumental in providing and finding resources for us to get as far as we have.

Would you care to answer my question about your intentions regarding the network? Many thanks
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [CARBON][SM] Carboncoin | For a Greener Future - Efficient+Secure+Sustainable on: February 24, 2017, 02:20:42 PM
The original issuer of coins (the person who started the blockchain) remains completely anonymous and unknown to anyone currently working on the project.

There is nothing wrong with anyone selling/exchanging coins on or off the market, as with bitcoin.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [CARBON][SM] Carboncoin | For a Greener Future - Efficient+Secure+Sustainable on: February 24, 2017, 12:39:25 PM
If dev was selling coins, then clearly he had more than 2%.

Simply not true when coins are available on exchange, however balances can fluctuate short term (it's an unrestricted protocol)  subject to the principal that no one maintains a long term position of more than 2% of total circulation.

Thanks for your continued interest. You are looking at a great deal of hard work from several good people.

Are you considering joining the network?
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Planting Trees! on: February 03, 2017, 05:22:19 PM
Last weekend myself and two other members of the community went and put some trees in the ground (hooray)

We planted 80 in a day and learnt a huge amount in the process a great deal of which we can pass on to you here.

First of all planting trees does not need to be nearly as expensive as we had been led to believe. Back at the beginning of the project we were informed that to put a tree in the ground cost between 4 and 5 pounds sterling.

This price broke down approximately as follows (it was 2.5 years ago so it's pretty rough)

Sapling just over ~£1
Tree guard to prevent them being eaten by rabbits/deer ~£1
Stake to keep them standing up ~£1
Labour to put them in the ground ~£1

The price quoted for us planting a tree was around £5 equivalent in BTC, LTC and Carboncoin

Trees are available in a variety of different stages of growth but the youngest form (and most vulnerable to being eaten) is called a whip. Provided it is planted in the ground correctly (at the right time of year (!) ) and not eaten by anything naughty this will grow into a fully grown tree so I'm happy to announce that it's MUCH cheaper than I thought to plant trees!

I think we can do it for about £2 per tree and there are ways to make this even cheaper!

On the current site we have room to plant another 200 and we have several other sites. Our first site is still there but because they maintain forests professionally they are only interested in planting higher quality later stage whips and using high quality stakes and guards. Our objective is biodiverse natural habitats on land that's not being used for anything else - and community participation is a thing we absolutely want to encourage - which the original site did not want to.

We're doing it ourselves and we've got canes and basic tree guards already so it's 60p each (because we're doing it for free) - so 200 is about £120 if anyone fancies a bit of that action here's a bitcoin address 19MzcxbwSKGw9HK9YWNCZPnuDM3DzWrgax

Carboncoin is set up to provide a constant source of funding for biodiverse forestry but only once we've had it adopted (because the donated coins in the largest wallet aren't worth very much til that happens)

We're getting some trees in the ground while we make that happen.

The Carboncoin blockchain is 3 years old in less than 2 weeks!

Do you know where your local tree nursery is?

Get the trees in the ground!

12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Carboncoin is going to work one way or another on: January 25, 2017, 01:54:41 AM
Hope everyone has had a good start to the year. We've got some news forthcoming about our real world structure - all along this has been about how to apply the bitcoin technology in the real world to do the most good with it.

There are some very interesting organisation structures we have been looking at as most useful for us to carry our work forward and we're quite close to a decision on what form best suits us and our objectives.

Stay tuned for some content about this years tree planting activities also.

The problem is from libsec256k1, not db48.
The general makefile is incomplete BTW, and I had to go into the secp256k1 and build it separately,  however as the error seems to indicates, the version in the repository may not be the one used by the wallet (or it needs specific build options ?)

secp256k1 libs are a big mess with multiple incompatible versions, so there is a version of Linux dll hell when makefiles are not explicitly using static versions... could be what is happening here if the wallet is developed on a machine where another version of libsec256k1 was "installed".

Thank you for looking at it, we're focussed very much on making the network operate securely while we make these changes. We have compiled a windows wallet and we're testing the timelock feature in particular, so not finished yet by any means.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I am trying to recompile the explorer's wallet with the latest github code, but under Ubuntu 14 LTS this fails with the following errors

 CXXLD    carboncoind

Hi there

you need to make sure the correct dependencies are installed first, especially db4.8

manual:
https://github.com/carboncointrust/CarboncoinCore/blob/master/doc/build-unix.md

to get the db4.8 from the repository use
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bitcoin/bitcoin
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libdb4.8-dev libdb4.8++-dev

Best

I remember there used to be another coin called carbon coin. It was a cute coin, with a black logo.

Please see previous post. This is an evolution of the same blockchain
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [CARBON][SM] Carboncoin | For a Greener Future - Efficient+Secure+Sustainable on: October 08, 2016, 10:57:52 PM
i think this is an old coin...

is it a rebirth of ICO, is there some bounties?
Thanks

This is the same blockchain that was released anonymously as Carboncoin with the black logo back in February 2014. It was not released with any ICO but their was a modest premine which the current dev team did not have any access to.

The original developer went dark and it fell to myself and the community to take the reigns and we collectively decided to repurpose it for a good cause. The development has been undertaken without formal fundraising with the following priorities:

1) securing the ownership of coins for every coin holder

2) maintaining the ability of individuals to purchase coins (being on at least one exchange) and take delivery of them (keeping the blockchain running)

3) not incentivising competitive use of electricity while not compromising on functionality, with respect to the resources available to us (herein lies our decision not to adopt a proof of stake model)

4) maintaining a legal structure to operations as similar to bitcoin as possible without compromising on any of the above, while having a reservoir of coins donated by the community for our environmental initiatives, mainly biodiverse forestry

Bounties are available to people who wish to add to our infrastructure or otherwise help with development and all are very welcome
