What about community-updated factoid? I think that they were nice. It might surprise you but I love the idea of ads on this forum, it gives you a little break between original post and replies and also it's nice when you see something new displayed.
I've been happy about less banner ads, but I'm not sure it was necessary to remove every factoid just because some were outdated. *shrug*

Added, thanks! What looked best IMO was to do the arrow and black color, but without the text-decoration:none or cursor: default.
+1

4  Other / Meta / Re: Locked threads on reputation board on: May 07, 2024, 11:00:47 PM
Should we have a rule regarding the reputation section where users cannot open a thread and immediately lock it? I feel like users the thread is about should have the right to defend themselves if they wish, without having to open a new thread cluttering the section.
~
Separate Kindergarten or Circus board could be created so mods can move topics there instead of trash  Tongue

Cheesy  This would be a fun way to handle it, assuming the board is sort of like investigations and isn't crawled by search engines... but then the users will probably cry "forum censorship!"
5  Other / Meta / Re: Locked threads on reputation board on: May 04, 2024, 03:54:15 AM
That assumes the thread will even go that far~
If it doesn't, there's probably no need to lock it anyway.

Inefficient?  Yes.  But personally I'm for the fewest number of rules/restrictions possible.

Well, that's kinda why I don't think a user should be able to silence any responses to a thread that is against someone's reputation or accusing someone of a scam, they're creating a rule/restriction to censor responses on a forum that should be against censorship, especially in sections like reputation & scam accusations, but really anywhere, IMO. Although, I'd agree it isn't a large long-standing issue, but it may be becoming one.

Starting up another thread is of course possible, but having 2 threads for the same situation is annoying as a reader, if you even know the other thread exists.
6  Other / Meta / Re: Locked threads on reputation board on: May 04, 2024, 12:27:15 AM
Seems pretty lame to start a smear thread and then lock it.. online forums are meant for discussion.

Maybe threads can't be locked in these sections until after page 2-3?

Locking threads is useful to stop the repetitive posts, when everyone wants to start repeating the first 5 posts in different ways, but doing it to censor any response seems a bit cowardly and manipulative.
7  Other / Meta / Re: I want to compile information of proposed additions to the bitcointalk.org forum on: May 03, 2024, 10:23:24 PM
I think there is already a topic where all userscripts, add-ons, SMF patches for the forum are collected - Bitcointalk.org Userscripts/ Add-ons / SMF patches. What's wrong with it?

Not a horrible list, but for starters I can see it is missing the CSS for my themes and BPIP's latest extension(s)!  Grin

Sadly, it still lists a very old "BPIP Extension" as a dead project. Huh
8  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [SALE] The Halvening 2024 playing cards featuring Bitcointalk users on: April 29, 2024, 06:43:03 PM
~

Thanks again for the order and support!! Smiley

Maybe more for multi-deck owners, I'm curious if it creates any problems that there isn't really an ID or description distinguishing these deck's in the design itself. If you got different options with each deck, they would be more distinguishable from each other, but I originally hadn't anticipated the multiples.

There are some fixes in mind if it is an issue. It would be somewhat easy to throw an ID or description on the custom tuck boxes, although not everyone would have those. I could also add something to the back's, but I'd rather leave the back's alone to maintain the look. But I'm curious if it is an issue for anyone or am I just overthinking here? Undecided
9  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [SALE] The Halvening 2024 playing cards featuring Bitcointalk users on: April 29, 2024, 12:22:30 AM
For anyone I haven't mentioned this to already, the OP now has some updates, including digital sample images, to get an idea of what the fronts for each deck should look like.

Thanks to everyone for the orders & support, can't wait to get these into people's hands!  Grin

I’ve been on the forum 10 years and this is the first time I’ve ever wanted to buy anything from anybody.

Can’t wait to receive them.

That's a pretty big statement! Again, thank you!! Smiley
10  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INTEREST CHECK] The Halvening 2024 playing cards featuring Bitcointalk users on: April 21, 2024, 02:40:34 AM
Either I missed it or you didn't say. Are you printing these or are you having the printed?

I was able to generate all of the images needed shortly after the halving. I needed 2-3 hours to complete everything and I ended up having no clue if it was going to end up on 4/19 or 4/20 (UTC), so I actually did it twice Cheesy, but the 2nd set on 4/20 is what will be used. Sale thread or update to the OP is coming as soon as I can.

Really does not matter much, but since you did bring up the hiding the card type / symbols was thinking it could be a thing where we can get cards printed with the BTC logo or other things.

Since yes I am planning to use a deck as 'business cards' at BTC meetups if you could get the cost down in general it might be a cool idea. Paying whatever for a 1/2ing deck is one thing. $50 for the deck for giveaways at meetings is a lot. I would just bring photo donuts with the BTC logo at that point. https://photodonuts.com/

A different design and a lower quality card stock would definitely be better suited for a business card, possibility for the future. Although, maybe it depends on the intent at the meetups... we seem to be comparing the lowest cost option of $45 (plus shipping) for 52-55 physical cards that include some type of info. to reach you, to ~$60 for 36 donuts with a BTC logo on it that will get eaten?   ~$1.66/person you are reaching with donuts and ~$1/person (with US shipping) on physical cards, plus you gotta transport the donuts... that said, some people might just want a donut. *shrug*  Tongue

Really down to the wire for UTC on 4/20... had to execute my plan B. Roll Eyes
13  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 19, 2024, 04:36:07 PM
So if going by UTC time, is it still happening on 4/20??  Feels like a nail biter to me. Cheesy

15  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INTEREST CHECK] The Halvening 2024 playing cards featuring Bitcointalk users on: April 15, 2024, 02:15:12 PM

Excellent, I have you noted. 2009-2024 would basically be the top 52 total merit count, which is what I had done with the sample pack (top 52 at that time, at least). I'm already planning to have an overall top 52 most merit deck as well, so that should be available.

I’m definitely going to order a couple of packs. Think I will have one pack as the top 52 received merit posters and  I may pick a customised pack as the second pack.

Will confirm via PM soon when I know what I want.

Amazing work by the way.

Much appreciated, thank you for the interest!! Smiley

Anyone have thoughts (good or bad) on if the ability to hide the card type/symbols should be offered?  It would still need to end up as a full 52-55 deck of cards, depending on the 3 additional cards, but there could be ways offered to hide card type/symbols. I don't want to devalue the playing card idea here, but also like the thought of potentially allowing more customization. Undecided
16  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INTEREST CHECK] The Halvening 2024 playing cards featuring Bitcointalk users on: April 13, 2024, 12:59:32 AM
~I'll send a custom list by your deadline. PM you with payment qs =)

Excellent, thanks for the interest!... and good point on the naming.

These are meant to be commemorative deck(s), partially why the smoother gloss finish was picked, but they are definitely playable!  Smiley

I am definitely interested.
Two questions:
  • The stats are the one that would be polled at the time of the halving?
  • Why generating a custom image instead of using the avatar? I guess that would be way more representative of an user than a custom image, that could instead be used when an avatar is not present.

Excellent, thank you for the interest! Smiley

1) Stats would be pulled on the day of halving, as the cards are generated. I'm debating whether to re-pull the lists of users for each on the day of halving, which is a separate process (currently), and could change the order of users... this may depend on what I have up against me that day, with time. Either way, the stats shown on each card would be pulled from BPIP on the day of halving.
2) AI imagery was ultimately a safer choice here for me to get them printed.

Interesting.

Maybe i am missing something, but I believe I should be in the top merits users between 2016-17, as I registered 31-12-2017. Or in 2018 depending on time zone? I am in neither lists

Sorry for the confusion - and big thanks for catching this. My lack of timestamps on the end dates for my queries caused it to not really include Dec. 31st, so you weren't picked up in that deck. Embarrassed    I've fixed it, and went through each of the other lists, you ended up being the only one that got skipped, but all queries were updated.

Very interesting proposal and good idea, i support every user who brings new things to the community and everything who can make the communitie ties even grow stronger.
~

Thank you for your support & interest!
17  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INTEREST CHECK] The Halvening 2024 playing cards featuring Bitcointalk users on: April 12, 2024, 06:54:37 PM
At this point, I'll have to set a cut-off date for any custom lists/decks for April 17th, 2024, to give me enough time to set things up for generating cards on the halving.

The lists/decks I'm starting with, so I have them available, are based on "Most Merit", and does grouping based on various registration dates, basically every 2 years (seen below).

There are 3 decks at the bottom of this list which have wider spans of time on registration dates, to try and get a more scattered set of users in each. These may make more sense than the every 2 years grouping(s), but I ultimately wanted to get as many users as I could into various decks. I'm still trying to do a few more lists, which probably would not use the registration date at all. I'm not really sure yet how many of these will make sense being put up for sale and printed, too many decks could become annoying to choose! Cheesy

If you can do something on the <td> with the entire post, maybe a simple border on the left/right:
Code:
border-left: 2px solid #537798;
border-right: 2px solid #537798;
It's also a good idea. But I didn't limit the highlights to the left and right border. It would include the top and bottom.

I tried a border on the top/bottom as well but it felt too loud, with all of the other horizontal lines going on with quotes, posts, banner/sigs, etc. I don't mind the bgcolor on the title though, sort of what I was trying to do here. The yellow isn't too bad on a mobile device, but on a desktop the long yellow strip feels too much, for me at least. Smiley

- Change the color of the entire post <tr>, using a different color than the usual alternating blue and grey (but not too different).

Maybe a minor issue, but this could effect any styling/colors on a post that a user created to go with the current grey/blue. Also, this could lead to a way for a user to create text using whatever color is chosen, which would look normal on the thread, but a linked version to the post could then visually hide that text.

~Would doing so break anyone's parsers?

Looks good here. We're mainly using pages where these hidden posts don't exist anyway so it shouldn't effect BPIP's parsers.

--
I'm liking the thicker side borders myself, but I'm biased. Grin

To get the most active, you could check BPIP's most active profiles report, and filter for various registration date years, like "2010", "2011", etc.

maybe a little thicker: Grin
