101  Other / Meta / Re: Can MasterCoin threads please be moved to the alt coins section? on: November 27, 2013, 10:38:20 PM
I would appreciate some guidelines on how to deal with Mastercoin threads. The confusion has showed itself lately, indeed...
102  Other / Meta / Re: Images now proxied on: November 27, 2013, 10:35:21 PM
This was a bad change.
In regards to tracking pixels - if you don't think it's trustworthy, don't click it!

The thing is: YOU DON'T NEED TO CLICK THEM. Just opening the page is enough.

I can offer hosting and bandwidth for an image proxy. Get me the script and I'll install it on one of my servers.

I have a script if you want to use it, it is all in php and probably needs some space to hold some images, but also a mysql server and cron.

I try to put it on github tonight or some time after I test it.

As said: 10TB/month available.

I can even get a domain for it(already have a static IP).
103  Other / Meta / Re: Images now proxied on: November 27, 2013, 10:28:49 PM
damn it, dudes. forget about BCB's tracking-pixel, will you?  He did it. I warned you. Enough. If you don't want to get "caught" browsing bitcointalk.org, get out of here.

As said, I offer hosting and BW for an image proxy. I'll set the cache to 60 seconds, as not to bother pricing scripts(and similar) very much. I have around 10TB/month unused to donate. I may be underestimating the needed bandwidth, in which case I'll thank you for straightening me up.

Not 100% sure how ads are being served here, but it might be to do with temporarily hijacked 3rd party content and/or in relation to linked content.

AFAIK ads are only html styled with css. No images or scripts.

Awesome service! I'm the one late on leaving feedback!
113  Other / Meta / Re: Why was BCB's post edited? Is he "protected" ? on: November 21, 2013, 06:45:10 PM
I really don't mind people knowing my ip address either, I even gave it to TF. Grin
But I also like to know when people are trying to acquire it without asking it to me.

So is there any easy way to block and detect those tracking pixels, without blocking all images?
Something like :
When on bitcointalk domain, disable every content loading from other domains, except for the whitelisted ones, and put a visible red cross instead of said content, with a right-click option to whitelist the domain of this blocked content?

Block third-party cookies and images, maybe?

http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/disable-third-party-cookies
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Permissions.default.image

More control may be had by using Adblock or NoScript and writing your own filters.
114  Other / Meta / Re: Why was BCB's post edited? Is he "protected" ? on: November 21, 2013, 06:28:13 PM
Hrm? It wasn't "covered up". All I did was split those posts from the discussion and removed an off-topic mod note from what was otherwise an on-topic post so that we don't have to split it once again.
I'm sorry to disagree, here, about the "off-topic" mod note.
People reading this kind of political threads should know that BCB is interested in collecting IP addresses, and be aware of that risk.
Mod-note should have stayed.

I was going to PM BCB about it, but decided it was better everyone was made aware that between the time BCB posted and the time of my edit there was a tracking pixel in that post.
If his target was jdillon he should have PM'ed him the tracking pixel. Tracking everyone is not cool. And before someone asks, no, I don't think BCB was doing it with ill intent, I just didn't like the "drag surveillance" method he was using.

He did PM the tracking stuff to other people as well.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=341940.0

Seems he had lots of targets.

And I have no problem with him PM'ing tracking pixels to the persons he wishes to track.
I don't really care who his target(s) was(were) or even why he did it.

BTC is at $600 at BTC-E and was lower yesterday why would anyone pay 1000 euros = $1300 instead ?!

Beats me. But the fact was: someone did. I even put a warning in red, right below the price.
117  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: In my country people sell btc as special service payments in atm's, but... on: November 21, 2013, 11:13:11 AM
Woow, that was really fast.

Thanks a lot Raoul Duke. I surely hope you guys the best luck sorting that out at btc.pt.
Are you guys related to lojabitcoin.pt? If so, why the certificate error? It appeared to me yesterday just about the time btc.pt went into maintenance.

We are not related with lojabitcoin.pt besides the fact that we are almost neighbors in meat space (5km). Looking at their cert, it's new, it seems they didn't paste the CA Root or CA chain certificates, so browsers are having troubles verifying the cert validity.
118  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: In my country people sell btc as special service payments in atm's, but... on: November 21, 2013, 10:59:29 AM
I work for BTC.pt. I can tell you the reason for that price.
We sold a lot of Bitcoins in the last week, especially yesterday with the price drop, and our credit with our sellers got depleted, so, they will only resume business with us when our transfers to them get cleared. There is only one seller left on our pool of sellers, and €1000/BTC is his price. We hope to have everything back to normal before the weekend.

BTW, the Bitcoin new All Time High is €1000/BTC. We did really sell some at that price.
Oh, and I'm not the owner. I work for the company who owns BTC.pt. I'm just the tech dude. Tongue
