1001  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL's Jalapeno exists - I have one in my hand and just uploaded a video on: April 25, 2013, 06:21:21 PM
How much were you paid to use same such a ridiculous title for this thread?

BFL's Jalapeno exists - I have one in my hand and just uploaded a video

You could have used: it is not a scam, BUY BUY BUY!

I can imagine how much you were paid. You were paid..... A Jalapeno. Nice and cheap way to buy someone.

Shame on you.
This doesn't even make sense.  Why is "it is not a scam, BUY BUY BUY!" a better title than what OP chose?

That's irony. I meant that "it is not a scam, BUY BUY BUY!" is as ridiculous as the thread title. Is obvious advertising in order to trap more poor newbies in their pre-order scheme.
It's obvious advertising, sure.  Trap more poor newbies in their pre-order scheme?  I disagree.  Everyone has the opportunity to weigh the pros and cons of preordering, and everyone has a choice of whether to preorder or not.  I see no scheme here.

1004  Economy / Auctions / Re: AUCTION - Casascius Coin, 1 BTC, 9/19/2011, GRADED MS63! on: April 25, 2013, 07:56:53 AM
Wow, ANACS is grading these now, huh? Any idea if PCGS or NGC grades bitcoin yet?

No idea, I didn't ask them.

Well, nice coin... You're the first I know of to have had one professionally graded. :-)
Thank you!  It's the first I know of to be graded as well.  We'll see how the auction goes...

I suppose grnbrg's doesn't really count as an end customer, since he didn't order the unit he received?

So I can make that 3000$ for free with that coupon?
No, sorry, I should have specified that the free/99% codes are for the pre-generated addresses only.  You CAN use the 50% code on the split-gen addresses though!
1008  Economy / Auctions / AUCTION - Casascius Coin, 1 BTC, 9/19/2011, GRADED MS63! on: April 25, 2013, 05:48:43 AM
Up for auction is a 1 BTC Casascius Coin minted on September 19th, 2011.  Mike first started minting the coins in September, so this is one of the first to ever be created.  It was recently graded by ANACS with a grading of MS63.

Bidding starts at 5 BTC.  Increments of 0.1 BTC minimum.  Bidding ends on 4/29/13 at 23:59 UTC.

Good luck!

1009  Economy / Goods / Re: 3d printed bitcoin address card prototype on: April 24, 2013, 11:26:09 PM
With such a large font size, I'd focus on just providing the firstbits, and not the full address.  Or at least doing something to indicate what characters make up the firstbits, so a user wouldn't have to type in the whole address to make a payment to the address.
1010  Economy / Services / Re: MyOwnAddress Custom Vanity Addresses! on: April 24, 2013, 11:21:39 PM
The method you are using is insecure.  You will know the private keys and thus can access funds at anytime.  Potential buyers should be aware of this.  It is possible to produce vanity addresses in a manner where you don't know the private key do a little reading and you will find the topic on it.
As firstbitsrepo.com now does.  Wink

His method of delivery is none more secure than mine other than the fact that he delivers them via PGP. I use PrivNote.
EDIT: I have also added the method of sending the text file via an encrypted 7-zip archive and sending the password for the archive over privnote.
It's not the delivery method, it is the vanity address generation method.  The pre-generated addresses sold there are no more secure than yours, but the split-key generated ones most certainly are.
1011  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs finally ship their first batch of Jalapenos on: April 24, 2013, 11:14:12 PM
They wanted to ship some out to provide proof that they do have product.  They're still waiting on the new boards to arrive to begin mass assembly, including assembly of the singles.

1014  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] FirstbitsRepo.com - Win 1 BTC Promotion! on: April 24, 2013, 08:33:30 PM
Just playing around with the website, and the free offers. PHYZERO

I have tried to purchase a couple of times and I get

"error creating bit-pay invoice. Please try again or use another payment option".

No other payment options pull up and I get this error consistently.

Hope this helps! Nice idea.
It appears bitpay doesn't like $0 invoices.  Wink  Thanks for the report, I'll see what I can do to fix it.

In the meantime, enjoy this coupon code:

PHY99 - 99% off one item.  (5 uses)

PHYZERO - 100% off one item.  (5 uses)
PHY50 - 50% off entire cart. (10 uses)

1017  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bryan Micon's Butterfly Labs Scammer Investigation including Josh Zerlan on: April 24, 2013, 03:37:21 PM
Shipping one unit vs shipping 100,000 are two very different challenges.  I wonder if he had to return the engineering sample after the video?

I know BFL has some experience manufacturing... but believe me.  Designing a PCB, sourcing components, dealing with idiosyncrasies of these components, having them wave soldered, etc....  then assembly, testing, boxing, shipping, dealing with returns/loss, etc.  No easy feat....  I wish them the very best of luck, but I'm glad I got a refund when I did.

To put things in perspective.  My mining pool, when I preordered in June of last year, was at 2000ghash/s.   Now, they're at 9000ghash/s and the reward is half of what I was before.

It'll be interesting to graph an investment in GPU vs Jalapeno, if both were purchased at the same time to see which one is a better investment.  Jalapeno would still probably win, but every day it's not mining for the purchaser, is one hell of an opportunity cost at idle.
The price in June of last year was $6 too.  $165 / $6 = 27.5.  9000 * 2 / 2000 = 9.  So it is 9 times as hard to mine now as it was then, but it is 27.5 times as profitable.
1018  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: First ever graded Casascius coins? on: April 24, 2013, 03:33:15 PM
Want to sell one? Cheesy
Sure!

Nice. How much did it cost to grade one? I wonder if I can get PCGS or NGC to grade a casascius coin. Smiley
I sent 5 in, so got a slightly better rate, but $20/ea + $55 to ship them back to me.  So $155 in total for the 5 of them.

So...do not keep us in suspense.

What grade did they get?
63, 64, 63, 64, 66.  The 63 and 64 ones have some fairly obvious tarnish (though the picture I took REALLY brings out the difference between them).

Those are beautiful. Could you send me a picture of one for my class? I'd like my students to see something that's not on ebay.
Want to just use the image I put at the top of the page?  Or were you looking for a picture of just one coin?  Either way, I authorize you to use the 3 pictures I posted in a commercial setting.

At that price, if I were a scammer, I would invest in some of those blank/unfunded 1 BTC I once read about, later selling them encased with the rating at a premium when the price rises.

Better yet, if I were a scammer, I would amass these, or fake my own, encasing them with an attached fake rating and sell them at a flea market at some ridiculously cheap price, pretending I didn't know anything about them, but some Bitcoiner would come along and think he's getting a bargain.
Well, you'd have to also fake the hologram...!

1020  Economy / Service Discussion / First ever graded Casascius coins? on: April 24, 2013, 05:13:04 AM
I sent 5 of the 2011 series 1 coins to ANACS in late February... they finally arrived!  As far as I know, these are the first Casascius coins to be graded by a professional grading service.
