10061  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your cryptocoins were stolen and you called the police? WTF? Are you serious? on: July 29, 2012, 01:55:28 AM
I use libertarian and anarchist interchangeably, because I assume my readers aren't so daft as to think I mean libertarian socialist, or collectivistic anarchist. There is only market anarchy.

Anarchists reject the need for, and inevitability of, a State.

Libertarians accept the need for, and inevitability of, a State (albeit a minimal, non-coersive one).

It's not a trivial difference, hence the terms are not interchangeable.

Readers who aren't daft will be confused, or tempted to correct such misuse.

The only place where libertarian means anarchist is France, for historical reasons.

Here's an easy way to remember which term to use: libertarians have jobs and take showers, anarchists just mooch and smell bad.

10062  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your cryptocoins were stolen and you called the police? WTF? Are you serious? on: July 29, 2012, 01:33:56 AM
Bitcoin was created by anarchists libertarians and for anarchists libertarians. Go read up on the cypherpunks. Read the cyphernomicron. What do you think this is, some left/right san fran techie circlejerk to see who can make the coolest looking mining rig? This is a revolution. The 'politics and ideology' part is unavoidable.

Great comment, barely needed fixing.

10063  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your cryptocoins were stolen and you called the police? WTF? Are you serious? on: July 29, 2012, 01:27:29 AM
Now one thought exercise: I pay taxes and I DEMAND that the police investigates if I ever get "cryptocoins" stolen from me. What are you going to do about it?

Well, first I'd have to laugh at the idea of you attempting to explain the multiple advanced concepts necessary to understand cryptocoins to your earnest reporting officer (who has much more important matters pending his limited attention than your nerd drama).

Then I might write a comedy sketch about your vain attempts to fill out a police report, press charges, and further escalate the matter.

10064  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Should BCX get a SCAMMER tag? on: July 29, 2012, 01:05:49 AM
tl;dr: Who gives a fuck!

You sure do spend a lot of energy, exclaiming your lack of fuck giving, for someone that spends a lot of energy exclaiming their lack of fuck giving.

I give a fuck because I'd like to use LTC pools without them being DDOSd.

I give a fuck because I'd like to use LTC transactions without them being forked with a 51% attack.
10065  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Should BCX get a SCAMMER tag? on: July 29, 2012, 12:45:50 AM
Why would anyone really care if they get a scammer label when they have trashed their reputation so badly and what good would the label do?
[rant removed for brevity]

I already answered your question:

BCX successfully discouraged the DDOS attacks plaguing LTC pools.  She was not the cause of them, but did foment a solution.

Agree or disagree?

10066  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitcoinEXpress is a scammer on: July 29, 2012, 12:39:37 AM
Source from bitcoinexpress means a lot. More lies. /Dead end there bud.

Let's see if I've got this straight.

When BCX claims to be about to start doing something you don't approve of, we should believe her 100%, despite ZERO evidence of follow-through?

But....When BCX claims that she was kidding and merely rallying the troops to defend LTC, we should refuse to believe her, despite lacking evidence to the contrary, plus indications that her plan was successful and coblee was kept in the loop?

That's a fascinating way to approach evaluating credibility you got going there bud.  You've discovered a quantum theory of believability!

10067  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Should BCX get a SCAMMER tag? on: July 29, 2012, 12:23:47 AM
Scammer tag? No. Those are reserved for people who make trade deals and back out of them. I don't think (s)he should be punished for failing to 51% an alt chain.

That makes too much sense.  Why pay attention to so-called 'logic' and supposed 'definitions' when the important thing is that MY FEELINGS HAVE BEEN HURT!!!

You need to stop being so rational and engage in my ridiculous form of emotional claptrap.

From now on the definition of SCAMMER = anyone who does something I dislike, regardless of whether an actual scam is involved or not.

It's just like my special definition of SPAM = any content I dislike, whether it has anything to do with unsolicited commercial email or not.
10068  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitcoinEXpress is a scammer on: July 28, 2012, 11:59:00 PM
Do you also think coblee and theymos are scammers?  They were in on the prank, sort of.

A prank now? Sort of? Theymos? Source? Evidence?

Calling out an admin to participate in a prank is serious.

@Psy

Theymos looked at all that last week as well as determined I wasn't involved in any DDoS on the forum and more importantly there's no conclusive report that DDoS did take place. Please quit embarrassing yourself by simply repeating what others are saying.

As always, warm regards

10069  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitcoinEXpress is a scammer on: July 28, 2012, 11:50:08 PM
He even said it himself!

It was a trick, and it worked.  No need for all the Epic Butthurt (although it is very amusing).

Do you also think coblee and theymos are scammers?  They were in on the prank, sort of.

I love watching Jr Members with <100 posts making accusations and demands of Hero Members, Mods, and Admins.

Cry Moar!  Cry harder!  Maybe you'll get your way if you start enough threads and complain enough.  It's worked for the anti-Pirates.

Oh wait, no it hasn't, never mind.

I like the altcoin ghetto, it's at least as dynamic, interesting, and educational as the main one.  The forum would suffer without it.

Thank you BCX, for removing the incentive to DDOS our LTC pools!  Successful trickster had much success.
10070  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Should BCX get a SCAMMER tag? on: July 28, 2012, 05:43:36 PM
BCX is not a scammer, because she did not seek to profit for her endeavor.  Plus she spend $400 on EC2 for our benefit.

BCX is a kind of a troll, but that's nothing unique and a part of what makes this place so damn entertaining.

BCX is a TRICKSTER.  She played a prank on us, but it was for our own good.  We learned many lessons.

Quote
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trickster#Archetype
The Trickster or Clown, is an example of a Jungian archetype. In modern literature the trickster survives as a character archetype, not necessarily supernatural or divine, sometimes no more than a stock character. Often too, the Trickster is distinct in a story by his acting as a sort of catalyst, in that his antics are the cause of other characters' discomfiture, but he himself is left untouched

BCX successfully discouraged the DDOS attacks plaguing LTC pools.  She was not the cause of them, but did foment a solution.

I couldn't have done it better myself, so hats off to her!

Let's promote her to moderator, so she can better humiliate the nasty rage machines demanding "zoh meh goad DOCKS KNAU!!!1."
10071  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's most needed for Litecoin to be successful? on: July 28, 2012, 02:06:53 AM
Litecoin needs more exchanges and liquidity to fulfill its promise to be a fantastic compliment to Bitcoin.

Right now it seems like a really good solution in search of a problem to solve.

People don't know how it fits into our monetary ecosystem.

Gold is the money of kings.

Silver is the money of gentlemen.

Copper is the money of peasants.

Debt is the money of slaves.

Bitcoin is the money of pirates.

Litecoin is the money of...err...umm...?  Drama?  Nerds?  Anon?

I'm leaning towards the bitcoin:gold::litecoin:silver syllogism.  LTC can be used for quick, small transactions while BTC stores wealth.

Hold gold, trade silver.  Hold BTC, trade LTC.  But that remains to be seen.  Can't wait to find out!
10072  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Open the deposit & withdrawal LTC!!! btc-e.com on: July 28, 2012, 01:50:09 AM
he is absolutely correct.

Yes that was a great way to respond to newcomers to LTC.  I guess fuck this forum too.

Yeah, I really see LTC getting off the ground with this positive community attitude.  Lol, and I'm on your side.

Bitcoiners, we understand you want to grow the *coin community and resent any negativity/rudeness that could harm that goal.

You need to understand that the harsh responses you received are due to our hatred of moochers who wish to personalize profit by trading on btc-e, while expecting the exchange to subsidize the well-known downside risk cost.

You've done some due diligence and that's a good thing.  But when you demand btc-e coddle a worldwide group of highly intelligent adults, as if they are children needing protection from Bad Guys, it's insulting and objectionable.

Hence, you got flamed.  Don't worry about it; anyone too thin skinned to deal with internet meanies isn't going anywhere near btc/ltc exchanges.  I mean, have you ever read the btc-e shoutbox FFS?

Oh, and the fact you counter-flamed while bemoaning negativity is hypocritical.  Why don't you blacklist this forum in your hosts.txt so you don't accidentally surf here again on purpose?
10073  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC mining with Reaper on a 7970 on: July 20, 2012, 08:22:51 PM
Has anyone made a LTC vs BTC profitability calculator?  I'll start a bounty for one.

It already exists.

Oh goody, thanks!!!  Grin
10074  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC mining with Reaper on a 7970 on: July 20, 2012, 08:05:18 PM
So I read through this thread, then looked at btc-e's LTC/BTC and LTC/$ pages.  But the coffee isn't working.

My head gets all spinny when I try to figure out whether to mine LTC on my 7970, or keep mining BTC and exchange them for LTC.

Can somebody please math this for me?

Has anyone made a LTC vs BTC profitability calculator?  I'll start a bounty for one.

10075  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Book that EVERYONE is talking about..Is Satoshi Nakamoto behind this too? on: July 20, 2012, 02:39:24 AM
So you think that Satoshi Nakamoto is not only a cryptologyst/programmer, but also writes novels?  Roll Eyes

Satoshi has many talents and aliases.  He is rumored to know everything and never die.

In the Old World they call him Count Saint Germain.

Besides monetary architecture, programming, cryptology, and writing he also finds time to be a superhero and run for president once in a while.

His true identity is an elusive code wrapped in an unbreakable cypher routed by a diffuse protocol.

This is all we know -

10076  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Decentralized coin mixing algorithm, using Namecoin and SIGHASH_ALL on: July 18, 2012, 04:54:23 AM
Sounds good to me!

Reducing dependence on centralized coin mixers should be a priority.  This is the first step towards that goal.

Plus it helps the dot-bit project.  Win-win!

Question:  Would it be a good idea to first clean the Namecoins used in a recursive manner?   Huh
10077  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Milestone crossing for the official bitcoin client on: July 16, 2012, 03:15:59 AM
Overlaying morality on top of bitcoin doesn't make it more resilient to attack.

When government-run water supplies run low, fines and invective are used to punish and embarrass those who might water their lawns or wash their cars. A free market solution is to simply raise the price of water - incentivising conservation. It sounds like that's what the miners have done (de-prioritizing SD txs). Berating SD doesn't seem to have accomplished anything.

Satoshi Dice has helped make it clear how easy it is to bloat the blockchain. If that slows adoption today, that's fine. Slow and steady growth is better than the boom and bust of publicity and exposed-flaw.

Lastly, it sounds like they're filling a market need. Apparently lots of people are "rolling the dice" because they want to. This is what P2P transactions are supposed to be about. No one should be able to stop anyone from sending bitcoin to anyone. This scenario was possible ever since the genesis block. If we've got a "tragedy of the commons" in the blockchain, then we've got to solve it in the model of P2P - not by name-calling.

All of those rational points don't mean anything because I can gainsay each one of them in a tit-for-tat manner.

You're just lashing out.  Ouch, stop lashing us!  I'm going to equate your rational argument to violence so I have an excuse to run away from the debate.  Just like that other guy.

Obey my boring, snotty, white hat morality or I shall tisk-tisk at you a second time, you terrible person.

Mcorlett is right, defending SatoshiDice and advocating proactive over reactive security is exactly the same as the immoral leaking of weak, innocent Yahoo passwords.  For shame, you SatoshiDice gambling addicts.  Get some help and stop destroying Bitcoin.

10078  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 13, 2012, 11:02:21 PM

This a thousand times. This last 'hack', if it happened at all, was the remnants of bitcoinica giving money away.

No-one could be so stupid as to get publicly hacked and not change all their passwords afterwards. It's just unbelievable anyone could be that dumb and still manage to dress themselves in the morning.

Both of these a million times.

/Can't believe nobody posted that yet.
10079  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A public plea for help regarding Bitcoinica and my 24,841 BTC on: July 13, 2012, 08:46:55 PM
Haha, now to spread FUD (because that is what the forums are for now right?) MtGox is bitconica hacker

Pirate secretly owns MtGox and uses stolen Bitcoinica funds to spam the blockchain with SatoshiDice transactions.

Therefore, Bitcoin is DOOMED.

Quick, send me all your coins before the hackers steal your organs!

(How'd I do?)
10080  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A public plea for help regarding Bitcoinica and my 24,841 BTC on: July 13, 2012, 07:38:35 PM
Apparently Mt.Gox knows who withdrew the 40k+40k, but they choose to protect the hacker.

Now that's just asinine, if true.

Quote
Evil Bit Burglar: "Mt Gox, plz send me, the Bitcoinica thief, lots and lots of stolen monies.  About 80k should do for now."
MtGox "Sure BitBurglar, no problem.  Here they are, you have fun retiring in St Tropez."

Quote
iCEBREAKER: "I've been using MtGox for a year with no problems, can I have $100 send to my Dwolla?"
MtGox "ZOMG Y U try to launder money?  We insist U give us copies of your GOVT DOX so U identity can be stolen EZ next time we get our shit haxord!"
