You're looking at such a narrow field of view that it's impossible to make an informed decision.
Look at the reasons behind the volatility, it's not as simple as "speculators." When mining switched from CPU only to GPU, and then ASIC, it opened up a door for massive ROI in fewer hands. This peaked interest, and encouraged speculation.
Now the mining bubble is collapsing, and mining will become more decentralized again. Unless something else comes along to give a grossly disproportionate hashrate, the market will have no choice but to calm down...
This was more of a Bitcoin "gold rush" than anything, and the type of speculation we witnessed would occur with just about any other asset on the open market when people get that gold rush mentality...
The big problem in my view is the still tech know-how you absoletely need to ave if you want to do anything with bitcoin. Bitcoin needs the killer ap, to which people without tech interest can simply tranfer money to whoever they like, just like a banking app. What's also a big problem is the so called btc whales, not the investors, but the innovators. They use their Bitcoin for all sorts of twisted things, instead of just investing to get bitcoin to a higher level. When you look at other cloudmining companies, they stopped/suspended scrypt mining contracts because they was no more profitable (power consumption vs revenue), and today most of the home miners stop too, because, excepted the knc titan, they are almost no more profitable miner actually...

Merchants selling, miners selling. Bitcoin is still profitable to mine with better-than-average chips and cheap electricity. But the inefficient miners are dropping out, and will continue to.

Yes if the network hash rate reduces in speed it will drop down by x amount like it did a few times in Dec 2014 last year but soon went back up as more went online. In all honestly BTC mining is end of days now unless you got some serious TH power and free energy. I remember grabbing one of the first Avalon units and making 2 BTC per day with that with 60GH speeds now you need like 35TH to 40TH to even produce 1BTC per day due to the amount of hashing power that is come online and is currently going on. By mid 2015 people are going to need at least 100TH basic to make anything and the power that is going to be eaten up by that is going to be stupid amounts. I have close to 1TH of power that's sitting collect dust now because it is not worth it to mine based on mining to power use to cost to result. The only time my units come online now is if a new alt coin comes along and I mine it at the beginning and after a few days soon turn off again due to some massive miners all jumping on it. Then you didn't replace your HW fast enough, SP20 or antmiuners s5 still produce profit, even with this low exchange rate... It's all about power to gh/s ratio. And you''re predictions of 30 ths to produce a fair amount is a bit strong, with 5 th/s you still rake in a decent amount of bitcoin, it's all about expectations These calculations are for tactics, 1. mining BTC2. immediately sell BTCin such a situation mining is becoming less profitable. If someone does not pay bills from the immediately sale BTC of a long time he not turn off miners, it seems to me Not only miners are selling inmediately, but basically everyone accepting Bitcoins that is moving legit amounts of money with their business (ie Overstock) are converting at market price inmediately. This is.. well, not good for the price. I wonder if Microsoft are doing the exact same thing. you're right, it made me wonder just how shops or other institution receiving payments at BTC settle wearing the measures. I've decided that if we $100, give or take $10 bucks, I will capitalize on the opportunity and purchase 20 to 30 bitcoins. In the meantime, I'm just holding. What are other people planning on doing or thinking? This would be a GREAT deal and greatly lower my "break even" number.

Looks like it. The great shakeout has begun. I think when the dust settles we'll have a more stable platform to build Bitcoin up again, but this round of pain became necessary to correct the excesses of the "gold rush" initiated in late 2013.

I disapprove of pumping and I disapprove of dumping. Artificially driving price is theft by fraud. A natural market price based on people making their own decision to buy or sell without any influence from others is the best way to avoid ANYONE scamming or getting scammed. However, I am a free speech type of person. People can speak freely in some other topic. Doing so will be almost useless because nobody except the scammers will go to those topics. I will not have the dev topic be perverted in favor of the crooks. The reason I am getting bombarded is because I won't let the scammers do their dance in the dev topic, so they bribe, extort and threaten via PM. As far as the emails I'm waiting for - I'm still waiting. So, really there's nothing worth telling about. Unless you think 'NOTHING' is worth telling. Everything prior to November 24 was all lies. Fixing this is going to take a while. So strap in or bail out. There is no way to successfully rush this. It has to be redone from scratch. Completely from ground zero. There will be nothing major to share for a while. The name "LiteCoinDark" has to be abandoned. It was a poor choice from the beginning. In all 100% honesty, alt-coins are dead and simply haven't been buried yet because people are clutching too tightly to a lost cause. Gen 2 is the only way to survive and it must include usability. With the active communiry Guldencoin has, could this community be the one that designs THE killer app, which makes it easy and most of all safe to use cryptocurrency. I think in that aspect much can be learned by looking at banking apps. But in order to make it THAT easy, semi anonimity true addresses isn't possible, because for main stream non tech interested adoption, in my view, adresses need to be registered to names, for those wanting easy to use, in stead of the crypto anonomity we are custom to. The real challenge is in developing a system capable of evenly distibuting a fair amount of guldencoins, registering in a safe system and rewarding that, so people can add eachother to social media and really get the ball rolling. That way people can pay eachother, companies can register etc. I think something like that is needed to get non interested people in free money is free money at first I agree. A killer app for me would be something that makes transferring NLG between mobile devices REALLY easy, easier then scanning a QR-code. Something with NFC? I think the betting game for the Euopean Championship was really good. The idea behind it could maybe be turned into an app; an app that facilitates these kind of betting games. People can design their own bet, the participants buy NLG at the start of the game and play, at the end the winners can change back to fiat (if they want). Other ideas for apps must use the ease, speed and ultralow cost of transactions. How about (just brainstorming here) to elaborate on the idea of Furio: a 'fair Ponzi'? Get paid in NLG if you get someone else interested in NLG and so on. Could be run on Facebook. Your last sentence uis exactly what I mean, added bonusses of REAL value, to get people interested in crypto. The lower the price of bitcoin the more hashrate they throw at it. Itīs really insane.
at the moment the hashrate is dropping.. from 310 PH to 291 PH and my guess is it will keep falling because btc needs to find its natural plateu after the mtgox pump in december 2013... before it will climb up again... loosing alot of mining operations in the process.. But isnt increased diff. being predicted ? Yeah becasue of the decreasu caused by alot of miners who switched to XPY for a while. So the increase first, then another firm decrease |
