1121  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: Naija board needs more merit source on: July 29, 2023, 09:54:34 AM
My own na question I wan ask. How Theymos go fit understand wetin wey dey talk for here base on say na pidgin we dey use dey discuss this matter?

This is not the main discussion board for the merit source application, @Charles-Tim already created an application thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5360200.0 on Meta board where such discussion and application is been made, the first application he made was the general board application to be a merit source, later he bumped the thread to add up his application to apply for local board merit source as well which you could see towards the last page of the thread, he also would have PM Theymos maybe (am not sure) about his application thread, on Meta board, Theymos take time to see into threads that deals with the forum discussion whenever he's chanced, there are many other applications as well directed to him in such manners whereby members applied to be a merit source.
1122  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: GOOD NEWS: CBN DIRECT BANKS TO LIFT RESTRICTIONS ON CRYPTO RELATED ACCOUNTS on: July 29, 2023, 09:36:43 AM
Even though am not a doubting Thomas but not until i see more people and banks back to using crypto and making payments from the financial institutions, i may not believe anything about this, i also expected the news to have circulated more than this because it's something that should attract more discussion on since everyone into bitcoin is involved, if truly the ban is lifted then we should also see other news channels taking this up for trending because am not trusting the source alone here, don't know if other members have more confirmations on this approval to be true.
1123  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Impact of Bitcointalk forum in our lives on: July 29, 2023, 08:52:45 AM
This forum has no other replicate where you can get bitcoin information accurately than bitcointalk because Satoshi Nakamoto himself made this a community for everyone to discuss about bitcoin, not only that alone, there are many opportunities embedded with this large  community if you're a member, but it does not end alone on being a member, you will have to be an active one, you will discover there are enough boards that you can engage on discussions in different aspects of bitcoin and life in general, there a local board section as well, gambling section and economics and politics and society boards, you learn from people across every part of the world with different ideas and opinions, you also have the opportunity to promote your business or help others in promoting theirs and get paid, you keep learning about bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as well each day.
1124  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm new here on Bitcointalk because Bitcointalk is important for Bitcoin on: July 29, 2023, 08:19:41 AM

1125  Other / Meta / Re: Charles-Tim merit source application + Nigerian local board on: July 28, 2023, 04:05:05 PM
Nigerian Pidgin is well recognized and believed to be a localized way of speaking English language as some may call it slangs but it's obvious that not all citizens can speak it but majority understand it, also the real English is the unified language and official speaking language in Nigeria, this makes the naija local board have a combination of two language and members could freely express themselves in the most convenient way their message could be well communicated and understood, the board indeed in fast increasing in activities for this reason with so many other reasons and having an additional merit source like Charles-Tim will encourage more members to participate on the local board discussion knowing well that their quality efforts will almost attract merits for the quality posts made, i want to believe that Theymos will see into this and consider the application together with other applicants worthy of being a merit source.
1126  Other / Meta / Re: Are these flaws of SMF forum software? on: July 28, 2023, 03:21:50 PM
If you have a user in your ignore list then you would be able to still see the post of that user if quoted by another user. Avatar and personal text are also visible to an ignored user. I am not sure if this issue is because of the old version as the forum version is 1.1.19, whereas the newest version released is 2.0.16. I am not sure whether a patch would stop this problem, you may give it a try.

Maybe because am not the type that do ignore often, I don't seem to get familiar with this features actually, but to those that make use of the ignore button would have many encounters of the likes, but i expect not to be able to view any related quote, signature or avatar of any member on ignore list, ignore could mean having nothing to do with the user irrespective of how they have been active or contributing to the forum, because most users on ignore list were either scammers or shitposters.
1127  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Little knowledge and understanding navigating bitcoin transaction fees - Help me on: July 28, 2023, 01:14:31 PM
How do i know the right transaction fee?

Right from your wallet you will be informed the amount to be charged for your transaction before sending it, you could also see this prior the time you wanted to send to know the lowest rate and the highest fee rate base on the mempool information you received.

Is there a way to minimize transaction fee?

Yes, you can use the lowest transaction fee under low priority especially when using wallet like electrum which allows fees readjustment, secondly, you can use the electrum wallet and select static option then send your transactions and use the transaction id on Viabtc to boost your transactions and make it faster with a customizable anf affordable fee rate, many people use the mining pool for these function as well, lower your transaction cost and boost your transaction confirmation time.

What are the factors that can influence these transaction fees?

The more congestions we have on the mempool for performing transactions the higher the tendencies for the fees and the lesser the mempool gets congested the lower the fee tends to appear.

Where can i track the recent bitcoin transaction fees rate?

Mempool.space/
1128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The beauty of Bitcoin is in use case. on: July 28, 2023, 10:58:17 AM
The more businesses begin to integrate crypto payment in their daily  activities, the more we see real progress regarding the entire concept.

The concept is good enough and the adoption is made easy together with bitcoin lightning network everything incorporated together for the people to use, we cannot actually phantom the exact numbers of users to be precise since they are increasing everyday with adoption all over europe, this alone could be more reasons to make bitcoin users increases more and their business enterprise going well with more interested people ready to use bitcoin for payment.
1129  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: apps for bitcoin security? on: July 27, 2023, 06:53:51 PM
can anyone suggest apps to install to have better security? all i know is antivirus and browser adblock.

Locking your phone or wallet with password or applocks does not guarantee security to your wallet because they lock you're using are only protecting your device from another user having access to your wallet or apps but when they have access to your private keys or seedphrase alone, they can steal your coins and have access to your wallet without them using any password since they can use those keys and seeds to import your wallet on any device as long as they are not using your own device, in case of using other devices as well for protecting apps, ve careful not to introduce malwares from any unreliable source, you can make use of password or 2FA for security measures.
1130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins and it's potential on: July 27, 2023, 01:28:38 PM
I have studied and argue about Bitcoin some topics which I posted and also came across in other board. Today I begin to think about the whole Idea of Decentralization, and I think the inventors of bitcoins since the idea was conceived till it was birthed has done the greatest good to humanity. With my view as at the time of writing , I think bitcoins will go long way to reduce poverty if they allow it achieve it's purpose.  Reducing poverty in my context is not about profit but the peer to peer transaction mechanism. The idea of centralized exchange is very much in place because a lot of people are yet to accept bitcoins but once it become accepted by majority, I think there will definitely be no reason to convert to fiat.
to replace fiat currency in countries today it is very difficult, most countries want to control our money flow, but with bitcoin it is not possible
why not stop talking about replacing of Fiat currency because that is not the objective of Satoshi Nakamoto in creating Bitcoin (at least for me) because what I do believe is crypto are created for privacy meaning something to choose from fiat as an option.
so it is not to replace Fiat instead to help people and the world.
and also that is it , for the government not to have control over users.

You're right mate, Satoshi never intends to compete other existing currencies, but he make a discovery of bitcoin in other to make provision of an alternative to the fiat currency whereby we can individually make the decision to adopt bitcoin or not, but since what he invented is what actually solves the people's needs, this make it more interesting for for the people to by themselves seek for financial increase, privacy and other benefits with what he has introduced, just as bitcoin does not stops the acceptance of fiat in El-Savador, both bitcoin and USD are legal tender, but with time, people may decide on which to finally settles with after having both experience in fiat and bitcoin.
1131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A bitcoin obsessed university lecturer. on: July 27, 2023, 12:56:11 PM
I read an article about an opinion of a university lecturer who believed bitcoin can be used to propagate critical thinking and study culture in students, spending the needed time on their academic work and assignments engagement. His argument is that due to how financially demanding gaining a university degree is and students had to struggle with part-time paid jobs and study which greatly affects their academical development at the end as university graduates.

Is it that his aim is to teach bitcoin to the students by inculcating the stury into the course modules or he's taking his personal interest to see the students understand how a decentralized financial system works and enlightens them on financial opportunities in a decentralized digital financial economy.

He therefore proposed an alternative approach that can promote students engagements on class modules through provision of cash prize for the best works by embedding a bitcoin wallet seed phrase within module material and for students to have a chance of opening the wallet, they would have to attend specific sessions and taking critical reviews on their materials.

Is bitcoin part of their course modules he teaches or how will the students realized there's seed phrase embedded on their course modules, is this his own personal approach to engage his own students under his supervision or another thing entirely.
1132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: RFK Jr Says He Purchased Bitcoin For His Kids on: July 27, 2023, 11:56:59 AM
He might not get the nomination to become the Democrats' presidential candidate in their Democratic national convention, however, he is giving free advertisment for bitcoin hehehe.

I think he's being wise enough not to miss two major opportunities of life that if his ambition as a presidential candidate have no chances of becoming a reality, he can take advantage of being a bitcoin pro to left an inheritance for his children and also see that his financial career is well secured, maybe in doing so, this might bring more recognition on his over future attempts on career ambition in politics, but for now, he's giving more attention on bitcoin and helps the public see the need for a decentralized network with bitcoin.
1133  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Searching for articles or talks of long-term (10+ years) Bitcoin hodlers on: July 27, 2023, 11:21:19 AM
I would like to read or listen to long-term Bitcoin hodlers. Can I ask you to recommend them and their content, please?

How long will you wait to get one recommendation to be referred, almost everyone here in bitcoin discussion board are bitcoin holders, why not push forward your interesting aspects about bitcoin you've always wanted to ask and let's discuss it altogether here openly, do you think you could get a personal attention of this long term holders here and they communicate you privately, it's almost impossible to be frank, that's why here is bitcoin discussion, forward your question here and those with related articles or experience will give you more enlightenment and discuss together.
1134  Economy / Economics / Re: Binance crisis - how will it affect the crypto market? on: July 26, 2023, 07:57:56 PM
A crisis that occurs on Binance will certainly have a big impact on the market, as we know that Binance is the largest and most influential exchange, if there is a crisis there will be a big storm and maybe it can make the bitcoin price drop below $ 5000. but I have withdrawn BNB and ETH 2 times on binance and everything is fine.

How is it going to have a delicable impact on the market supply or demand when not everyone uses Binance to store their bitcoin and assets, most of its users are traders and exchangers, major holders don't uses exchanges, whales have more understanding of why they shouldn't try such, consider the numbers of exchanges we have, the numbers of people that uses exchanges with the number of those that have their personal wallet and those that are whales on the two sides, Binance alone is too small to push the market even if it seize to exist today, only it's users will be affected and not the bitcoin network as a whole.
1135  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation is making a mess of my savings. on: July 26, 2023, 07:38:23 PM
Inflation is not wat is only being felt in some particular regions or countries, it's a global challenge we cannot do without as long as we are running under thesame economy run by government and centralized Institutions, the fiat currency we also uses does not help the situation in any way because we can't depend on a currency that depreciate in value over time due to the effect of inflation over the economy, these have served the more reasons you discover people running after the decentralized economy that cannot depreciate with the role of inflation or economy clampdown, instead, it's independent of the government controlled system of traditional fiat currency, this alone is bestowed upon the adoption of bitcoin un cryptocurrency and no other alternative.
1136  Economy / Economics / Re: Can your passion lead to an increase in your net worth? on: July 26, 2023, 07:19:38 PM
Let's try to first understand what we have passion for, there are things that we are pursuing after that will lead us to no where because we are only been infantuated to them by physical appearance but we lack passion for them, whe we take a look at things we often do alot most times, we could see that there will be a level of increasing passion about them because we do them often, then in so doing, they pave way for us to discover more opportunities in them to use and developed our potentials in them to increase our net worth over time when we are successful in them.
1137  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: Naija board needs more merit source on: July 26, 2023, 07:01:37 PM
You're right OP, there's more needs for the naija local board to have more than one merit source, this will help the even distribution of merits to active members of the board contributing well to the forum at large, there are other local boards with more than two merits sources in their board and they help their members posting well to have the opportunity of ranking up after meeting some certain criterials, someone like me, I don't think i can remember when last i received merit from this board that's if I've ever received once, i believe there are more responsibilities attached to our board merit source and considering the numbers of members posting that he will also have to find some quality post deserving to be merited, chances of everyone getting merits is slow, but having an additional merit source will make the whole process more simple to achieve.
1138  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: How about a convention on: July 26, 2023, 03:10:47 PM
This is good and a welcoming idea you've table down here, i like the fact that you've summoned courage to bring this for public hearing for every member of the naija locsl board, i must comend you well done for this move, i will like to share my own personal interest and opinion towards this as well, we need to realize that we have to take into notice that not every Nigerians are present on the naija local board and those that have identified themselves may want to maintain privacy at the course.

Organizing a bitcointalk naija local board convention is not what is bad, as long as you are not going to make it public or announced out to the general public, only the bitcointalk naija community will be invited and to also attend, my little suggestion is to consider the time factor and convenience for each member to be able to meet up for this, especially those that are not within the same confined zone of PH were most members are sited, which means for those that will be participating live, there may be chance of connecting others to join by virtual meeting using zoom or video chat as the case maybe, also to me this may not be the appropriate channel to extensively discuss on such but you can pm some prominent and active members your telegram and from there you pick up.
1139  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Other Things You Can Bet on Aside Sports and Casino Games on: July 26, 2023, 11:51:49 AM
If we are not going to give consideration to the online gambling and casinos as preference is in this context, we can engage in physical gambling with some of our materials or items we had in possession, we could gamble with our valuables, assets, and any other physical things we have in possession that can be exchange for money or that has value to stand as stake for us to use while gambling, there many games we can as well play both local ones or online games as long as betting is involved.
1140  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 5 Bitcoins to never gamble again. Will you take it? on: July 26, 2023, 11:33:10 AM
if you were given 5 Bitcoins to never gamble again for the rest of your life, will you take it?

Let's consider the conditions and compare them together, first is that why do you think most people gambles, they do so to earn some money even though we cannot concluded tht every gambler is doing one to earn money for a living as a result, now am been given the money needed and not only that, the money is well enough for me to get established in life and never lack, egat else would i think about than to embrace this rare offer and go into investments, what if am gambling for years and never win talkless of having close to half of 5 bitcoin as my win, I will quit gambling and be playing virtual games at home while my money on other investments.
