121  Other / Meta / Re: The effect the mixer ban has had on the forum. on: May 12, 2024, 02:09:14 PM
Campaign managers don’t seem to care at all. Many campaign managers that are active here are also active in the shitcointalk forum and they only manage mixer campaigns there as far as I know since no other business (exchanges and casinos) use that forum for advertising.

So we are still looking at the mixer ban through signature campaigns. Is the usefulness and quality of a service really seen through whether it has a signature campaign on the forum? The conclusion is that any service is not worth mentioning if it is not on Bitcointalk (without sig. cam.), also other forums if they do not have active sig. campaigns are completely irrelevant, right?

Isn't the bigger problem that a certain type of service is completely excluded from the forum? All for a reason, because there is no certainty as to how it will be legally interpreted and what the consequences could be. A possible scenario starts from the fact that everything is allowed, up to and including prosecution.
If someone here sees a problem only in signature campaigns, then, in fact, we don't have a problem, in the end, this forum can be complete without paid signatures.

So you want theymos to leave the USA and find a friendly country to run bitcointalk.

The USA claims mixers are used by terrorist groups to help fund terrorism.

The world trade center attacks on 911 will always be used to restrict freedoms in the USA.

it is what it is.

The aurora just fired up in Maine - really bright and pulsating; it's a beautiful display! ~46N latitude.

You can watch it here live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiWG_5941YQ

Cloudy and raining where I am - I went for a drive to see if I could find clear skies but once again, foiled.

edit: firing up in Banff, Alberta as well but the skies haven't darkened yet.
You can watch live here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJdpRO0BwA8

edit2: North Dakota skies coming to life (12:48)
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXtPKLJfYDc

clouds at 10pm 11 pm 12 am 2 am.

gave up .

I have to say clouds were thin i thought there could have been green backlight to them.

It was cloudy in Maine as well but the clouds parted just in time to watch the aurora explode into colour.

You can't get the full experience from a 2 hour time-lapse but the really bright, dancing aurora display only lasted about 15 minutes.  Hopefully NEOC will post the full video on YouTube soon.

It's easy to be patient sitting in my recliner in front of my TV flipping through live video feeds..  As I said, I did go for a drive in hopes of finding clear skies but there were none here either and I ended up going to bed... well my wife came into the office and gave me the stink-eye at around 2am which pretty much forced my hand.

Nice images. Never saw it would like to get a glimpse of it tonight fingers crossed 🤞.
123  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you consider yourself, the family and gambling? on: May 12, 2024, 01:47:02 PM
1. At what age will you allow your child to start gambling? that is if you will even allow for that at all?
2. At what age do you see yourself quit gambling? that is also if some of us are going to ever do so?
3. Ever since you have started gambling, have you ever achieve a satisfying level that makes you think it has good impact on you?
4. Would you have missed out on anything if you were not a gambler?
Firstly I don't think it's a nice move to expose kids to Gambling activities let alone allow kids to gamble. I don't think that's kid who puts in too much interest into Gambling at a very young age will end up a responsible gambler. Also Gambling is something I have noticed that most of the time, younger adults tend to put in more interest into than older people . This is because, most of the time as gamblers grow older some tend to gradually lose interest in Gambling activities probably because they already put in a whole bunch of time into it during their earlier days.
As for the third question, I believe it has a strong relationship with a gamblers Gambling win. Sometimes the most common impact gamblers feel is usually when they hit a nice prize or jackpot and they end up spending the money on something nice and important to them .

I started gambling before kindergarten. I struggled as a gambler from 4 to 33. I quit in July of 1990 I am much better off not playing the horses going to casinos or playing cards. ♦️

126  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Eligius pool is back under the new name Ocean on: May 11, 2024, 07:02:02 PM
Anybody can say anything on twitter.

-Dave

So, you don't trust a verified account on Twitter? Damn!

Setting aside both the dislike of ocean and the fact that they didn't provide any data, it is still possible for them to be more profitable than another pool for a miner in a selected interval, we're talking about 0.1% to 0.15% of the hashrate , luck could play a huge role in it.
Going just through their data rally quickly, in the last 30 days they had 8 blocks, so they mined 0.18% of the blocks while having at max levels 0.16% of the hashrate. Now if we go one month before it drops to 5 blocks, so...

well they are tiny well under 1%.

so as you say doing 8 vs 7 a month means they have a good month.

but if i run 200kwatts a month at 5 cents it costs me almost 7400 for power.

and if they do 4 vs 7 I am into pocket for thousands.
127  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Industrial Scale Natural Gas Mining on: May 11, 2024, 01:58:18 PM
I began to realize why my country burns a lot of associated gas in oil fields. I think that on free gas mining will be profitable, but there is a problem with the laws in Russia. If an oil company sells electricity, it will take a long time to get the necessary licenses. If you install this generator for your own purposes, you also need permission from controlling organizations, but it is easier.
I mean, there are many places in Russia where you can get gas almost for free, but I haven't heard of it being used for mining. The reason is cheap electricity.

the generators need a lot of maintenance. 1 in 5 days shut down and check it change oil etc is not uncommon.  ie 100 hour run time then maintenance check.

very labor intensive. I set a guy up years ago in Pennsylvania he had a 60 to 75k generator did it in 2014. I wonder how he made out.
128  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Industrial Scale Natural Gas Mining on: May 11, 2024, 01:14:36 PM
I did an analysis for a small 250kw unit, price of generator at $70,000 CAD ($50,000 USD) with an average price of gas at roughly $2750 CAD/Month ($2000 USD) with that generators gas consumption, 85% up time, and thats at 65% of the 5-year average nataural gas price.

That's backyard scale, 250kw install won't make shit or worth your time. You can only really run them at 80% load so that 200kw usable.

Want it to be a hobby go for it. It's not a business model, sorry

Who is going to do the dailies on the gen, oil and filter changes? Who is going to change out the sleeves, pistons and bearings? It takes a lot of money to keep those running.

having just ended a 210-230kwatt mine it is too small unless it is a one man show.

If you are running 60 x 190th t21s you have 11400th or about 570 a day.

So lets pretend your access to the gas is “free”

But you need a box. 35-40k
you need shelter for the generator and box  25k
as you said 70k for the transformer

and 60 miners are about 215k

add that up 350k if you make 570 a day it is just under 2 years to break even.

that assumes 100% up time and nothing breaks for two years.

it also assumes earnings stay at 5cents a th.

having worked on mines for years I can tell you I would not want the extra work of keeping the genney running..

this may be good enoguh to protect the mining box and the generator

130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD 6800 XT what is profitable to mine with these video cards on: May 10, 2024, 06:55:38 PM
Nothing is profitable nowadays so what I would suggest mine a coin that you believe to have a bright future and make some of them, you can also change in different coins that you believe as you may believe in different coins. You can also mine other coins and exchange them in the coins you believe, there is the only way to make this card profitable in the long run as for nowadays I keep running my GPU with 2 x 3060 ti and I am mining Raptoreum because that is the coin I believe in from the alt coins and the card consume less energy, options are there, you just have to be creative.
Multiple graphics cards can be used at home without any problem because the power costs will be low. But I see a trend that gpu miners are now getting rid of video cards and installing asics in their place, because asics are more profitable and easier to manage than constantly choosing profitable algorithms for video cards.

Gpu mining is still hurting. Maybe in the fall but now not much at all.
131  Economy / Economics / Re: The collapse of central banks...Inevitable? on: May 10, 2024, 06:16:53 PM
With central banks struggling to keep inflation under control, people are beginning to lose trust in the traditional financial system. Some politicians (eg: Javier Milei) even suggested to abolish central banks as they're the main cause of the world's economic problems.

If the global economy continues to deteriorate, do you think central banks will collapse? If that happens, it will be the end of Fiat for good. In such a scenario, do you think Bitcoin will become the currency of the world?

What's your opinion? Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Smiley

I think a full collapse of the central banks will kill off millions of people. It would be a disaster beyond anything we have ever seen. I also thank god that all my kids are dead. Just me and the wife plus we are 67 and 68 years old and will likely die before the collapse happens. I feel deep sorrow for those under 50 and they will likely live long enough to suffer a lot when the collapse happens.
132  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My single Phase 235 volt T21 on: May 10, 2024, 06:13:47 PM
S21 is better than T21, most of our clients choose S21 instead of T21

the s21 is not worth the extra money than the t21 in almost every case.

model s21          t21
hash   200th vs 190th
price   3780  vs 3059.    you save 710 usd the mode is about 210 so you save about 500 bucks.
watts. 3700  vs 3700

the t21 ships faster

10 th earns 50 cents a day.  so it takes 1000 days to make up the 500 extra for the s21

and I am not counting that you can sell the psu that you pull out for 250-450 on ebay

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806711358754.html?

plus the power cord https://www.ebay.com/itm/186397914642?

So if you get 300 for the oem psu and the power cord you were paid to do the mod

this mean you save 800 on the t21 not 500 at 5 a day that is 1600 days before the s21 goes past the t21

So I kind of feel sorry for people that did not go for t21's and mod them like I did.

Now if you read all that I said I was pissed to start when I found out I need to mod my gear but I ended up making out better with the t21's

I think any hands on person should consider the t21 as pretty much an equal to the s21
133  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My single Phase 235 volt T21 on: May 10, 2024, 06:00:18 PM
I've listed the PSU cover as a variant on the T21 transformer listing
https://altairtech.io/product/bitmain-antminer-t21-transformer/

Do you know you shipped the covers out the other day and in under 10 hours bitmain shipped my remaining  t21's

I will soon have 3 of them up and running.
134  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Lowest Bitcoin mining cost on: May 10, 2024, 03:41:39 PM
As I posted elsewhere on the board. There is equipment in locations that are under contract. Many data centers don't care if you have 10 racks that are burning all the power you are contracted for or have 10 empty racks. So long as you are at or under the allocated power of what your contract says you are paying your fixed contract rate. So even if you are mining at a loss you will keep mining since you will have less of a loss generating some coins vs no coins.

So when looking at the overall picture without taking into account things like that having people mining at a loss seems illogical, but there are reasons.

-Dave

Right now I can get some hosts for my gear.

I could do 3 s19xps
I could do 3 t21s modded to 230 volt 1 phase
I could do 2 L7 units.

About 26kwatts an hour. Small not big pay 7 cents. And a 2 year contract prepaid for six months.

If I did that all that gear would mine since I am paying for that power for at least 6 months.
135  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2024 Diff thread happy New Years. on: May 10, 2024, 02:26:28 PM
yeah credit and tax laws are pretty twisted in the usa. 🇺🇸

I have spent over 1,000,000 usd in credit cards last 30 years. I  paid under 100 in fees and interest and collected over 25,000 in  rebates on that million .  I am a small business yet I can get really good credit.
so good that it is easy to get 50k in gear with no interest for 12 months and a 2000 dollar rebate.

139  Other / Meta / Re: Are no-KYC services banned? on: May 09, 2024, 10:18:43 PM
Personally, i think all services that are rubbing shoulders with regulators (that we consider privacy focused) are going to be banned at some point. I am seeing the trend and we are headed for that direction. This will include no KYC exchanges, coins like monero etc.

Just a matter of time.

that is the future and it will go back to a paper bag with cash in it when you want to move wealth on the sneak.

crypto will not get used for sneak hidden wealth movement.

140  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will blockchain survive the crackdown on mixers and anonymization? on: May 09, 2024, 09:54:36 PM
In the first place — why would 'blockchain' not survive? Blockchains will work totally fine without mixers and coinjoins and stuff. I'm all for privacy, but everyone simply isn't interested in it whether we like it or not. Only a minority cares about self-custody and being self-sovereign; a lot of people just want to use it just as an investment/hedge.

And yes, even without privacy, Bitcoin and blockchains would still be useful, just as these are still very useful today despite privacy being very minimal.

they lose a lot of value if your tx can be blocked and frozen.
