1101  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New Crypto Tax Law In US 10k+ Transactions Must Report to IRS in 15 Days on: January 09, 2024, 01:47:16 AM
the biggest issue for me is how to report hitting a solo block.  I would need to report the receipt of it from the pool running it. Say ck solopool. or worse if I self mine a solo block I would have zero idea how to report it.

I can certainly justify my decisions to take my pool payments at lower than 5k.

As 2  pools lost my funds with 1 never repaying the coins.

So letting the pools hold beyond 10 k is not a normal thing to do.

But if my mine earns more than 10k in a day I would need to report that.
1102  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: IRS Criminal Investigation Unit Is Taking on More Crypto Tax Cases on: January 09, 2024, 01:40:51 AM

The mine will earn enough in JAN 2024 that I will need to do two or three sends to avoid the rule.

if there are four 4️⃣ of us and I earn 30k in a month I will need to pull the coins out when they get to 9k

i wouldn't do that because they'll think you're trying to launder money:

https://www.idenfy.com/blog/structuring-in-money-laundering/

What is Structuring?
Structuring in money laundering is when criminals make transactions intentionally splitting larger amounts into a series of smaller sums to avoid scrutiny from law enforcement or compliance obligations. In other words, criminals strategically structure deposits just under the threshold to prevent unwanted attention.

In these cases, the individual or entity typically conducts smaller transactions without requiring the financial institution to file a report with a government agency. For instance, in the United States, a report must be submitted for all cash transactions exceeding $10,000 processed by a financial institution.

Quote
this is 3 or 4 times a month.

I will need to send the coins right away so they do not go to 10k.

more fees for sure.

Is Structuring a Crime?
Even if the person obtained the funds for structuring legally, structuring is still illegal and is considered a criminal offense.

That would be a good way to turn a legitimate business into a illegitimate one it seems like  Shocked

Mining is not illegal and I can simply show that other pools such as mmpool and nicehash collapsed and did not pay and or held my coins for years. Thus I simply take the coins out more quickly perfectly legal.  At no point last year did I ever let coins stay to 10 k and then pull them out so I am not changing my behavior as I result of the new law.

The highest amount I allowed to stay in my biggest pool at any time in the last year was under 5k.

I also have been doing kyc and paying my tax for years.

My biggest issue would be if I choose to solo mine and hit a block as that would be receiving more than 10k and I am not sure how to report it.
1103  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 SE Troubleshooting on: January 09, 2024, 01:06:27 AM
To be able to enable the fan control follow the guide by mikeywith posted from the link below once you enable it try to run it at 85% or higher and let see any changes on the hashboard temp and it should help to cool down a bit your unit.

If he gets temp errors then setting static fan won't help him, the miner would push the fan to it's limit or closet to it before sending any warning, and thus mean, his miner has already tried what you are suggesting but it still failed to operate at reasonable temp, what he should do instead if

1- provide better airflow.
or
2- underclock the miner.

it has been a while since I worked with an S9 SE, but if he follows my guide that you linked to unlock the hidden settings, it's possible to find clock and voltage settings which he can play with.

I would simply detach the center board from the 3 power jacks. Mine ran well for years like that.
1104  Economy / Speculation / Re: back in 2015 we had a nice pre 1/2 ing streak. on: January 09, 2024, 12:41:54 AM
2015 Sept up 2.82%
2015 Oct.  up 31.92%
2015 Nov  up  21.44%
2015 Dec  up  13.75%

here we are 8 years later

2023 Sept 3.95%
2023 Oct 28.51%
2023 Nov ?
2023 Dec ?

I looked at the post below to come up with my 2015 to 2023 comparison.

will we repeat this?

It's funny to see that October is the most successful month for Bitcoin. This has probably already become firmly anchored in people's minds, so that all market participants act accordingly. A self-fulfilling prophecy in that sense.
Yes, this October was no exception and bitcoin didn't just rise, it broke resistance that couldn't be broken all of 2023. But I doubt about the psychology that it happened naturally, September was also green, although it was almost always red.
Naturally or not, initially it was the effect of Cointelegraph giving invalid news about ETF acceptance that FOMO occurred and many bought Bitcoin at this time so that it broke the $30k resistance, then indeed dumped after the news was not true.
But the next effect is like a snowball that makes market conditions better and until now it is able to hold at $34k + +.

October was a green month and we are about to enter November which in the last 2 years has always shown a drastic decline.
Will the trend change?
we will see.

If we do the 2015 pattern from sept to dec we will rock 2 more months.

35000 x 1.21 = 42350 by dec 1
42350 x 1.1375 = 48173 by jan 1.

opinons and guesses?

So we got to 42.3k a few days late. around dec 4

do we go to 48.1k 8 or 9 days late. we did top 47.1k today.
1105  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 09, 2024, 12:32:17 AM

Chopper is getting out of the dark slowly but steadily

well my 47075 ladder up sold

next one is set for 49432

I don't want to judge, but as @jjg says...surely...the values in the ladder don't have to stay fixed and could/should be adjusted from time to time.
That said, it could be a good move (or not), we shall see.

It is a very long and winding ladder up.

quite a bit off pace 368 vs 418

and coins are near 47k

and what is the old mempool up to lets see. here is the last 7 days

first 3-4 days before the diff jump diff rose showing possible overclock and memory pool shrank in count also showing result of blocks being made quickly we lowered to 252k or 255k backed up tx in pool right at the jump.

we are now at 282-285k. tx backed up due to slow blocks.

see below.  so if you want to argue that foundry is testing my raise the fee concept this evidence certainly is in favor of what I said.
But not conclusive at all.   much like old paternity test. If one guy is type a+ and the other guy is type B-

you could rule one out as the dad. but not prove the one you could not rule out as the dad.

Does this continue to the ETF announcement we will see. If it does  then whales like a mofo it looks more like that is what was done.

1109  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2024 Diff thread happy New Years. on: January 08, 2024, 03:30:25 PM
So did everyone remember to turn off the miners?
How is it that in less than 2 days, after the difficulty change of +1%, now the forecast is almost 10%?  Shocked

Any logical explanation for this?

downclocking by foundry in order to pre crowd the mempool.

this was done because they would make a ton of money if the NTF jumps up and prices go to 60k.

fees will be huge in a matter of a few days. say thursday this week.

or maybe a storm knocked out a few vast mines.

I am betting on hash manipulation by large mines.

Pace looks bad but it's just half a day, by next day it can be 5 blocks ahead.
I don't think anything spectacular will happen this epoch either, doubt too much gear can be bought online after the holiday or that anything out of ordinary happen with tariffs, someone important enough losing precentral prices per kwh, so not holding my breath for anything.

-----

That aside, is anyone mining at antpool, and top of that encountering problems with the login? That damn slide loading and loading ..and..

251 vs 282 down 31

and mempool is duh crowd again

time to stop the downclocking at foundry and then boost back to 0 behind

or I know just variance.

At kano what is the math on 251 instead of 281

1116  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 07, 2024, 11:29:53 PM
Slowly coming back to $44444 again. Grin
Is it bots that love these numbers or people that coded bots love these numbers?

44432.10 is better to use for a sell ladder up.

or if you want higher ladder points numbers below are better.

44,818

45,783

46,714

than

45,000
46,000
47,000

as falling short by a little bit would happen less with the odd selling points.

1117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mempool and Spam Transactions LOL on: January 07, 2024, 10:17:12 PM

as rewards drop it is more important to have higher fees.

240 blocks made vs 270 if normal.

that crowds the memory pool a lot.

if it is due to miners underclocking huge mines. they lost 30 x 6.25 coins in reward.

but fees get jacked for the 240 blocks made.

as big a problem as ordinals are what I an talking about is worse.

at the ˝ they would lose the 30 blocks jack the fees for the 240 blocks.

at a cost of 30 x 3.125 = 93.75 coins.

this is a problem that seems to be certain to happen.

and to avoid the difficulty change to fix this they will over clock later in the same 2 week difficulty period.
1118  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: January 07, 2024, 08:16:22 PM
I suppose you are a partner of jambler, am I correct? That would explain your ease of mind

I am not paid by jambler to write in here, no.  I am pissed off about authorities shutting down mixers, but if you see the bright side, now people will make use of decentralized alternatives, which is the reason we have Bitcoin on the whole.
What I meant was the fact that they have a partner exactly with your username. However authorities are too stupid to realize that CEXs and banks are the biggest threats to their agenda as they operate with impunity, using bribery, exploiting all sorts of legal loopholes etc. Bitcoin just took that opportunity from banks and gave it to everyone willing to make the effort. That could be the reason as to why they are angry and why they sent their minion here to announce a take down.

I have to agree with you on one thing specifically, more they push, the more we succeed. Not to mention the biggest scam in 20th and 21st centuries is USD. go figure.

One could argue Nixon started to scam by leaving the gold standard that covers 1970 to now.

But off topic. I guess.
1119  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is just happened on the Bitcoin Market? on: January 07, 2024, 07:19:41 PM
Bitcoin was around $45K to $45.5K for the whole day, but it started going down for the last two hours. Bitcoin just touched $40.7K, and now it's around $42K again. I was trying to figure out what had just happened. Bitcoin lost $3K in two hours and alts are now bleeding. There are several negative news just popped up and some of them are

* SEC will REJECT Bitcoin Spot ETFs Again Says Matrixport Report
* Miners Unload BTC to Exchanges
* Matrixport Predicts Bitcoin Price Dip To $36k Amid SEC’s Potential Rejection Of BTC Spot ETF

Which one could be reason of such movement?

Yeah hard to say. I also googles right after the drop happened but first I didn't really find anything.
Then I saw there have have been some twitter posts of some influential people spreading fear of ETF rejection and so on.

It was all good and then within minutes this 10% drop.
But we all are used to it, that's nothing new to the crypto community.
Whatever pushes or pulls the price is always a mystery for me, as usual.

Wealthy people have many piles of different wealth.

Lets take a imaginary guy with 25 billion in wealth.

He has 40,000 btc which is 1.6 to 1.8 billion dollars.

he knows the ETF is coming next week.

he feels no ETF will dump btc to 30k

so he sells ˝ his btc drops price to 40k with that sale.

It is a new year and tax laws vary a lot country to country. He may not need to pay any tax on it until dec 2024.

He is liquid cash of maybe 800 million. He can hold it for next deal.
and if no ETF happens dropping price to 30k he can get more btc not worrying about any tax issue until december.

and remember he kept ˝ of his btc so if ETF comes in and btc goes to 75k he has the other 20,000 btc.

also remember we are talking about a guy worth 25 billion he has lots more wealth on the side.

Bro, leave Lala-Land. You don't know anything about this. Have you ever tried? Have you ever been in prison or are you talking from a YouTube video you have watched or actually your own experience?  Roll Eyes
Well, FYI, in my country a girl's scarf was a bit off her head and some hair was showing, she is dead and her name was "Mahsa Amini".

So no I'm not in whatnot land watching you tube.
And if I say "fu*k you to my president or supreme leader" I'd end up in prison, raped, and harrassed for the rest of my life.  Where is that a lie?

I am sorry that you live in a place of great restrictions.

Here is hoping things improve for you I have had hard times in my life years

ago. I grew up in a tough area.
