181  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: s17 pro control board repair on: April 17, 2024, 07:01:17 PM
anyone in uk or close that can repair s17 pro control boards? I have one that might be dead, and another that is a s17 firmware, and I cant flash it atall, it wont budge, I have spent weeks trying everything and I cant do it (no seriously, lots of third party sorftware, al sorts of cards/formats/sizes/different power cycles etc...) I need it flashed with s17pro and braiins installed (braiins over s17 will not detect s17 pro hashboards) or thrown in the bin.

help a brother out? will have to be cash, prefer bank transfer as PP is a bit scammy, just need some help please.

got some 59.9k corn just now.

I am set to get 57.6 next

I can follow down till 25k if needed to be that way.
183  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin's 4 year cycle only coincidence? (This could be actually good news.) on: April 17, 2024, 02:12:01 PM
Well whether the ½ really makes the cycles 🔄 the reality is they will have less effect in 2024 2028 2032

if they drive the cycles. if they do not drive the cycles 🔄 they never had effect.

the next two choices of what drives cycles are high fees clogged mempool. and possible release of frozen stale coins down the road.  all of the above and a new super good lightning network are mechanical mechanisms. Think pick ax vs 1000 gallon sluice machines for gold. They are supply action items.

Traders are going to trade. BTC is tradable 24/7/365 pretty much worldwide.

I would argue there are multiple groups of  investors.

traders:
Short term
Mid term
Long term

dca and hodl
buy the dip and hodl
miners

They have different goals and methods.

Lack of clear concise regulations do not exist. this attracts speculators. Short term traders are happy with ups and down.

It is possible btc may just stay in slots like 55-75k for months on end maybe years on end.

184  Other / Meta / Re: Why seeing merit button on my post when I can not merit my own post on: April 17, 2024, 01:17:19 PM
When I go through a post of other members, I will see the link to a merit page which can be used to merit the particular post that you have just read. If it is my own post, I can not merit it. Then why should merit link to give merit to a post be seen on my own post when I can not merit myself. I think something should be done for us not to see the merit link on our own posts. Only other people's posts should the merit link be seen.

It is corrected by the following step a click to merit yourself

do a wrong amount 0 and see what happens

it tells you invalid amount even though you sent it to yourself

do a correct amount say 1

it says "fuck you asshole" you can't merit yourself.  I added that  just to wake us up this morning Grin

I can assure you that if you fix the merit yourself issue the way you do you will likely interfere with the code that says you sent a wrong / invalid amount.

To ask for what you want costs time.

Why not ask power glove  if he could fix it how long and how much code it will take then offer to pay him 100 usd an hour to fix it.

BTW when I see that other things are wrapped into it such as you sent an invalid amount 0 for instance. I know that "you can not send over 50 merits a month to the same person"  is linked into that same line of code.

Well I'm done mucking about with mine.
It's nice and does throw off SOME heat but a 1 or 2  board S9 or L3 gives you more 'space heater' options although those are bigger and less efficient.

If anybody who is US based wants it I'll give you the miner by itself shipped for $100.

I'm going to keep the USB power brick because it's handy to have another one around the office.

I will also give you access to the brains pool account and the e-mail address associated with it so you can keep lower mining fee. Once you have access to the account you can change it to whatever e-mail you want.

Reply here or PM.

-Dave

send it to me Dave

I will have 2 and can do comparisons
187  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 281 blocks solved! on: April 17, 2024, 12:57:55 PM
Another year is up for the hosting fees on the pool.

For those that were around during the last halving, you may remember that solo pool was solving so few blocks at the time that the pool fees were increased across the halving to make up for how little the pool was earning beyond covering fees. Additionally, pool hosting costs on the revamp of the pool were covered by the community to encourage me to keep the pool running for the next 2 years.

I'm pleased to say that the pool has solved so many blocks that once again there will be no need for the community to fund the hosting costs. In addition the value of bitcoin and the number of blocks solved means the fee will also remain static at 2% across the halving.

Mine on, and here's hoping for one more 6.25 BTC block before the halving.

I glad we were able to get that done 2 years ago. A lot of people chipped in and it worked out well.
188  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin's 4 year cycle only coincidence? (This could be actually good news.) on: April 17, 2024, 03:12:01 AM
I agree we are watching a shift in the four year cycle 🔄
But you still think the "halving-driven cycle" theory as a whole holds, it seems Smiley

.

<big ass snip>

I seem to see two patterns the so called four year cycle

the mempool getting flooded.

they are different patterns and they are changing.

first ½ ing meant nothing industry was tiny no one gave a shit.

but in nov 2013 1200 plus a coin woke people up. 10 million coins at 1200 a coin was decent money.

I would argue that was the first bull run that gathered attention.

https://mempool.jhoenicke.de/#BTC,all,weight

the mempool never meant any thing til 2017

I would argue this was the second bullrun

and the 2021 was a wild up down double top which kind of was 2x sabatoged by china when they shut down the hash rate and the first exchange fail happened. then of course the second crash happened in the fall of 2021.

so four year cycles are meh 2013 2017 2021 seems like it but not really.

give me a minute to post the mempool over the last 7 years.

notice the crowding the last 1 ⅓ years this alters the damage the ½ ing does to mining.

and in 4 days the new ½ ing makes it easier to manipulate fees since the rewards are less. a pool will not lose 6.25 coins trying to jack fees up by doing 2 things.
A)ordinals
B) under hashing for 1 week of the 2 week epoch time

this will effectively end the ½ down turn income for miners at this ½ ing or the next one.

which means even if you are not correct (now) you are headed to being perfectly correct in 1 week or 4 years and a week or truly 8 years.

I think we have seen glimpses of you calling it being true some of the time  ( I am reffing to four year cycle is an illusion concept)

I am Sure that it will be far more true in under 8 years.

189  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Nano 3 [unofficial thread] on: April 17, 2024, 12:49:52 AM
I like gear.

Since I know every desktop miner I ever purchased had a shit psu I figured do not buy the one they were selling.

The high end 165watt dell = $105 is it worth it? Doutbful.

the amazon one with a ton of adjustments is way cheaper. then the dell 59 vs 105

is it needed maybe. what it does do is allow undervolt overvolt and a lot of measurement.

I personally think the decision to go with a usb-c cable was not cool.

I have seen two demos one of an apple 140 watt charger set to medium software says 90 watts meter says 105 watts . and it is hot enough to burn you if you hold it.

the other test is with stock psu it reads 139 watts not sure if that is a meter or a software number and it is 120f to the touch. on high so not that good.

I want to know if the $105 high end dell will be hot and I want to know if it pulls a ton of extra power.

OT: need something to "repel" squirrels...they are eating fruits from one tree and nibble on another, while marauding in our back yard.
Our gardener told us to buy a couple of large water flasks (3 liters or a gallon, maybe), then fill them with water and distribute in the garden.
Apparently, little beasties see their own reflection and supposedly ran away 'fearing' the competitor.
Not sure it it works...too weird...looking for other suggestions.

I used to electrocute them.

I ordered it.

I also got an email from indiegogo saying they are shipping black dated earlier then feb 24 asap.

I am hoping it comes soon. 🔜

I order the adjustable psu above

I also have the dell

I will demo both when I get them.

So cheap considering the halving in 3 days.

 Roll Eyes

what would be the halving without a dump

I usually take a green dildo with my 2024 halving, just like I want a biscuit with my tea. Thank you.

tell me more about that green dildo...

193  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: April 16, 2024, 04:37:11 PM
Now 10 k cash or 10 crypto is equal and I need full kyc from the entity that sent me the cash or the crypto.

I'm referring to this, the rule "everything over $10k (from an unknown source) must be explained" existed long before the creation of the first mixer, nor is it specifically aimed at mixing Bitcoin.

But Kucoin is still operational and legal. It wasn't seized, and certainly it is not a darknet website like SB became.

This is the reason why mixers were banned. They are not having just small legal problems, they were getting seized and that may be a problem for the forum.

Seized, because an anonymous person is behind it. If the mixer were legal, it would also be subject to fines in the event that it does not have KYC.
The SEC is now suing Uniswap because of similar reasons and the epilogue of this will be very important for the further development of decentralization and maintaining privacy. If Uniswap loses this case (this will affect all Defi platforms), they must be closed/seized, because they have no way to implement KYC.

I suggest that Bitcointalk ban all Defi platforms as soon as possible, and wordfilter their domains, why wait for a verdict and risk the forum being identified as a place where such services are desirable?

There is increasing pressure on privacy, it is sad to see a forum that "aims to allow about as much freedom as is reasonably possible", the first to take such drastic steps.

Not that I'm talking about this because of fucking profit from signature campaigns, the ban could only refer to promotion, it didn't have to be a complete expulsion from the forum. (I already suggested this earlier)

I always reported my mining income. over or under 10k.

the new law is different.

if I mine 10k and take it from say viabtc on may 1st I have two weeks to file a special form. or a felony and s committed.
this is far stricter then telling the irs on my tax returned I earned 120k gross income from mining .

in both cases I report the gross income from viabtc. but new law means when I exceed 10k I must report on a special form within two weeks.

old law the 10k did not need to be reported until I did my taxes at years end.

if i were theymos I would not touch mixers with a ten foot pole for bitcointalk.

I get it if you are not USA based you are saying wtf?

but if you are USA based the new rules are very restrictive.

I have yet to figure a legal work around and simply won’t mine much this year.

Pools is not their problem. It's miners who own the hash power. They can shut down the top 4 pools, and they'd have only achieved a temporary network interruption. And since they can't break into places and shut down mining farms, then they can't stop what's happening.

When miners are actually companies listed on the stock exchange it will be easier for a government to take over a mining farm than pools.
Foundry is almost completely private, no hobby miners allowed, just people you can see their farms from the space station, all those will bend the knew faster than when stumbling over a rock.

Plus now even smaller pools or farms are immune, look in that list:
Binance pool - Hello CZ, you want your passport back?
Mara pool - not even counting this one, they will do the censorship even if not asked for
Luxor? - based in Seatle
SBI Crypto - it's owned by former Softbank Japan, common...

And the halving will only make things worse.

The top 4 pools as we speak mine about 75% of the blocks. This means that even if 4 pools started censoring transactions based on federal orders, there would still be 1 in 4 blocks that would ignore all the censorship bullshit.

What happens when they decide to ignore any block containing a blacklisted transaction?  Lips sealed

fork and shattered?

DeFi was supposed to stand for "Decentralized Finance". If they can be shut down, they're not decentralized and don't deserve to use that name.

You are missing the point. It doesn't matter if they call themselves they are decentralized or not and what they deserve.
It can very easily happen that domains (and everything else recognized as their resource) are seized, which will put them in the same group as mixers.

The pressure is increasing, and Bitcointalk admin & members decided to close their eyes and turn their heads.

However,  the front end can be banned, and the developers can be punished, like tornado cash...

But the smartcontract can still be used , their api is still running in ethereum blockchain for those who knows how to use it.

In that case, anyone who starts a similar service or one based on this protocol is against the law and risks sanctions.
Isn't that a similar scenario where the mixers are currently?

and theymos is ignoring the dangers facing bitcointalk or is being proactive?

I get that many members on btc do not give a fuck about USA law.

But I don’t get what you are saying about admin closing its eyes.

I suggest that Bitcointalk ban all Defi platforms as soon as possible, and wordfilter their domains, why wait for a verdict and risk the forum being identified as a place where such services are desirable?
DeFi was supposed to stand for "Decentralized Finance". If they can be shut down, they're not decentralized and don't deserve to use that name.
Mining is also supposed to be decentralized and yet, we see people closing down their farms...

yep I am too big and too small at the same time.

big enough to be hurt by new usa law but too small to self mine and simply report kyc on me.

We had 1.4 million infrastructure and gear.

800k solar and 600k gear.

the owner of the warehouse will mine by himself and stay under the 10k numbers by exclusively using nicehash.

he could run into an issue if btc moons. he earns about $3500 a week and coin is sent weekly.

he is not so sure if he will be bothered under the 10k rule by taking a weekly payout.

If my gear was there we would be at $7000  a week which none of us felt safe to under new laws

its easy if you are doing $10000 plus a day as you certainly will get better treatment from pools

but if you just squeak out the 10k weekly or monthly pools may say no.

my smaller foot print will allow me to be well under cut off numbers.

but you force 1.4 million invested to sell off and reduce with new laws.

This little dip is nothing.  I have much bigger problems; the rabbits are eating the tulips we planted last fall so my wife ordered some coyote urine from Amazon and instructed me to spray it over everything.  It's a tiny little spray bottle that you have to pump with your finger much like a bottle of perfume and it comes out in such a fine mist (also just like perfume)... well it went everywhere with the breeze a now I smell like a f@#$ng homeless coyote.  I'm hoping it's not female coyote urine or I'm going to be in big trouble.  I think I'll just skip my nature walk today.

Maybe something like this, for 2 Devices on one PSU
https://ampul.eu/de/schaltnetzteile/3352-stromversorgung-28v-179a-500w

and if the idiot engineering people gave us a better jack that would be a good psu.

I am not sure if I can find a 240 watt usb-c wire which could hook up to the psu you found.

run the gear on medium and see what you get.

I found a red panda video

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ejn0fyO_18c&pp=ygUOcmVkIHBhbmRhIG5hbm8%3D

he is using an underpower mac pro charger on medium

direct dell link for the 165 watt that I have

https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-usb-c-165-w-gan-ac-adapter-with-1-meter-power-cord-north-america/apd/450-bbwr/pc-accessories

Yes, the USB port thing is idiotic for devices that are supposed to run 24/7 under full load...
But for the PSU I suggested you can solder the cable yourself

https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005004998861725.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.3.1588zMf4zMf4px&algo_pvid=4f17a8fc-00e4-4e81-8049-70434773479d&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch%7Cquery_from%3A

My tired 67 year old eyes will need to redo this unit with a proper jack.

I have to find that psu you found in  a usa store.  BTW it needs 190 volts to 240 volts so most usa people will not be able to use it.

btw no update on my unit which is black without a psu

so they are obviously having shipping and psu issues with this gear.
The should have used this psu

https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-74-mm-barrel-330-w-ac-adapter-with-2-meter-power-cord-north-america/apd/450-bbqg/pc-accessories

or this one

this psu would be okay as it has a trim screw

https://ampul.eu/en/switched-power-supply/3327-power-supply-30v-167a-500w

you can drop it to 28 volts.

you just need to wire a high power usb-c cable correctly
197  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Nano 3 [unofficial thread] on: April 16, 2024, 12:29:25 PM
Knows anyone a good PSU for that Miner?

The highest price most watt capable if the dell model it is 165watt capable.

I can’t find a higher power rated model.

I own the dell.

my issue is usb-c doing 130-140 watts 24/7/365 is moron.

this should have been a six pin pcie jack.

I advise everyone to not do high speed.

This cycle is not so much a 1/2

12.5 + .5 = 13 coins dropped to 6.25 + .5 = 6.75 which is maybe 45%

but now

6.25+ .75 = 7 coins drops to 3.125+ .75 = 3.875 this drop is maybe 38%

so the ½ ing is a .62 or a .65

I agree we are watching a shift in the four year cycle 🔄

Hello all,

have also ordered 2 pieces and will point they as lottery miner to cksolo pool

Color: Midnight Blue
include power supply
Estimated delivery : May 2024

hope they will come fast without any delay

I think a very good alternative to bitaxe miner.

Best regards,
Willi

I also have a May 2024 delivery date.  I went with the black because I read somewhere that they were shipping those out first, but I also received notification that they're waiting on power supplies and some orders may be delayed.  In any event, I'm happy to have a new home miner on the way.  Been missing those sha256 hashes.

Which shop, link please

https://shop.canaan.io/products/avalon-nano-3?VariantsId=10282
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/avalon-nano-3-blockchain-smart-home#/

I do no have a psu on order.  I deliberatly purchased a higher end psu than stock. Yet they still did not ship the black one to me. They mention a feb date to deliver well it is April and nothing so far.

I am  really disappointed.
no real date.
no tracking number.

well at least I did not buy their psu as a lot of people say it is not a good psu. Frankly using the usb-c means you should no do full speed. as 130-140 wats 24/7/365 will be a mistake.
