1201  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How do solo miners earn on: April 06, 2023, 09:40:52 AM
--snip--
is it profitable with patience?

for example if you can have 25 miners

should you put them in a pool, or create your own pool or run each miner solo

how profitable is it versus being in a pool

Whether it's profitable or not also depends on your ASIC hardware and electricity price. But joininig pool guaranteee better income consistency. Although if you prefer solo mining, using solo pool mining (such as https://solo.ckpool.org/) usually have better profitability since solo mining pool offer faster block propagation and you don't need to burden yourself to run your own/full node.

Could anyone please be so kind and provide the information needed?
It depends on your algorithm. Those values can be different, it depends for example if you use CPU, GPU, FPGA or ASIC, and what is your software.

--snip--

FWIW newer x86[1] and ARMv8[2] CPU also have instruction set specifically set for SHA algorithm.

--snip--
if there is a formula to calculate them, I'd appreciate it.

By any chance, do you mean something like this https://stackoverflow.com/a/11005919 ?

If we use face recognition technology on this basis so that everyone can only generate a unique account, will it be fairer, safer, and more energy efficient than current Bitcoin.

This sounds rude, but you clearly lack knowledge about technical aspect of Bitcoin.
1. Bitcoin doesn't have account.
2. How does this technology prevent usage of stock image (e.g. Shutterstock), stolen image (e.g. from Facebook profile page) or AI generated example (e.g. https://thispersondoesnotexist.xyz/)?
3. How do you implement your idea on decentralized manner?

I strongly recommend you take some time to learn some technical aspect of Bitcoin from https://learnmeabitcoin.com/ and https://github.com/bitcoinbook/bitcoinbook.
1204  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I've created website with over 250 links to most useful platforms in crypto on: April 01, 2023, 12:14:57 PM
Nice website. I have few thoughts and suggestion for your website,
1. Dark theme addition would be great.
2. Do you mind checking these website?
3. Electrum have option to multi signature wallet, so IMO it should added to "Multisig Wallets".
4. Link to "Bitcoin Multisig Wallet" (https://multisigtools.com/multisignature-tools/multisignature-wallets/) is broken where i see message "Not Found ...".

Could anyone please confirm if someone else is also experiencing this bug where marking tags and removing them stretches out the link outlay?

--snip--

After checking few different tags, i also experience same problem with Mozilla Firefox browser. I didn't record my screen, but here's a full page screenshot (click image for higher resolution).

1205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: An unknown person or group may be collecting the IP addresses of Bitcoin on: March 31, 2023, 09:43:56 AM
It's interesting find. But it's nothing new and IIRC Chanalysis also did same thing by running bunch of Bitcoin full node Electrum server. Although i wonder how effective is it to find origin of a transaction only by listening for inv message only for 150 seconds on 18% or less connection.

In addition, OP should also state that he only copy statement from https://cointelegraph.com/news/mysterious-entity-may-be-collecting-btc-users-ip-addresses-bitcoin-developer.

Sir, sorry am making it difficult to understand. What I mean by spreadsheet software is example of Microsoft excel, WPS, Minitab Statistical software or google workplace.

And the home spark is Java, Python, R and Scala.
The spark usually support the multiple uses. We locally call it spark.

Software and programming language you mentioned isn't relevant to run full node.

The error message is your device does not support this program. And am using Lenovo ideapad S400 Touch.

The default OS for your device is Windows 8 Pro 64-bit Edition [1]. Assuming you still use that or newer version of Windows OS, visit to Bitcoin Core download page[2] to download Windows version of Bitcoin Core, then run the installer. The installation process should be easy, but you can easily find guide to install Bitcoin Core on Windows[3] on internet easily.

I didn't realize it at the time, but Monero's tx_extra field is nearly unlimited in size [1].

--snip--

[1] https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/11xvi03/comment/jd76w83/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

--snip--

It's surprising the idea to limit size of or remove tx_extra field seems to be well received on Monero community. Meanwhile suggestion to make OP_PUSH or Taproot script size bigger than X bytes become non-standard has more mixed response on Bitcoin community.

I don't think BTC will ever adopt MimbleWimble (it would require a hard fork), but I guess you can have a look at BEAM.

And even if it's implemented, it'll require opt-in from user to preserve some backward compatibility which doesn't solve spam/arbitrary data problem.
1208  Other / Archival / Re: WasabiWallet.io | Open-source, non-custodial Bitcoin Wallet for desktop on: March 24, 2023, 11:32:31 AM
I just know that the wasabi wallet update to 2.0.3
the major update is coin control to select address transactions.
so, will this affect privacy when using coin join?

Their release page need a bit clarification. It's unclear whether coin control feature is available when user perform CoinJoin. But assuming this feature is available for both making payment and CoinJoin, i expect there's some privacy improvement if user use this feature correctly.

I was imagining and never try it before, is easy to use coin join?

When i tested it with testnet bitcoin, i find it's rather easy. Although you have to be patient since it'll take some time.

if using for lot of crime, will wasabi be the next chipmixer?

Looking at zkSNACKs behavior, i expect they'll use more strict blacklist or perform other drastic action to prevent government shut down development of Wasabi Wallet and WabiSabi (their CoinJoin protocol).

Actually, 2 questions:
1 - If this is a 2-of-2 multisig address, how could Alice broadcast it on her own?
2 - Even if shw can do that, in what sense whould her funds be at risk?

You can find answer to these question if you continue reading chapter 7. I skimmed it and it looks like section "Cheating with Old Commitment Transactions" and "Cheating and Penalty in Practice" answer your question in detail. But the short answer is,
1. Alice simply broadcast TX which represent current or older state of LN channel.
2. After bob detect cheating attempt (by broadcast TX which represent older state of LN channel), Bob could broadcast penalty transaction where Bob take all coin on LN channel.

1211  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: REWARD offered for hash collisions for SHA1, SHA256, RIPEMD160 and other on: March 21, 2023, 10:04:39 AM
is SHA512 better than SHA256? if yes, why don't we use that?

First of all, define "better". SHA-512 probably have better collision better resistance due to longer output, but SHA-256 have shorter output which save bandwidth/storage which have some importance when using Bitcoin. And if we're looking for better hash algorithm, we probably should look for to more modern/secure standard rather than SHA-2 standard (such as SHA-256 and SHA-512).

The use of Wasabi Wallet is alreade a thing of the past. But I would still like to know what will happen to my Bitcoins once Wasabi Wallet claimes the Bitcoins are dirty?

IIRC you unable to participate on their CoinJoin activity. But privacy wise, blockchain analysis company now know owner of an address plan to use CoinJoin at certain time/date.

Has anyone experienced Bitcoins being blocked? From Wasabi Wallet or from an exchange?

No, but you can find people claim exchange block their mixed coin from Wasabi CoinJoin. Few examples,

I am a bit confused that if I merit any profile that is banned I might get banned also or will I face other penalties outside banned?

No, otherwise many user (including few merit sources) in this page (Top senders to permabanned users, last 180 days) would already got banned or other penalty.

but it will just be a waste of merit and time.
As long as it is permitted, it won't always be wasting anything. Some "most earned merit" members also spend their smerit on trivial things and they never think it's a waste of smerit. After all, not all constructive posts from banned accounts are plagiarism,at least they also occasionally use their minds. lol

It's also possible the account changed changed (usually due to hack) where the new owner perform plagiarism.

I did quick testing on Debian 11 and it seems to works. But i can't verify whether it works on next step since i only have 3 xpub generated from https://coinb.in/#newHDaddress. Here are the steps,

1. Check my environment.

Code:
$ node --version
v12.22.12
$ npm --version
7.5.2
$ python3 --version
Python 3.9.2
$ python2 --version
Python 2.7.18

2. Setup and run multisig-tool.

Code:
$ git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/dlajarretie/multisig-tool

cd lib/multisig && \
../../node_modules/.bin/browserify -r ./vault -r ./views/addresses_view > ../../multisig.js

3. Open on Firefox by typing localhost:8000, enter 3 xpub and click continue. Here's the screenshot some time after i click continue.

Take note i assume it works since,
1. Firefox only show error message about favicon on it's console (F12).
2. I do not see "Failed!" message or each address turning red.

In light of chipmixer aftermath, I found interesting tweets posted recently by @btcdragonlord, who is writing articles on BitcoinMagazine.
This is his own opinion, but he explained what happened with Wasabi in last few years, and he is talking about other alternatives for Bitcoin privacy.
What stick with me was last thing he said, and I tend to agree with this... we might be little too late already, but we still have decentralized JoinMarket and I hope more people work on that, making it easier to use for regular people.

Privacy as we can see is constantly now under attack from all fronts, even within our space. But developers are not a plenty and it is not likely we going to see more projects coming around to start developing privacy solutions for us. It might be little too late already.
https://twitter.com/btcdragonlord/status/1635521127748362240

IMO this story should be shared by zkSNACKs much sooner. Even so, it's still a shame they decide to choose blacklist feature rather than either,
1. Shut down their service and list community coordinator on their wallet.
2. Stop taking profit and use different means of income (e.g. donation).
1216  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Had enough of ordinals? on: March 17, 2023, 12:23:56 PM
--snip--
Is it possible to detect which nodes have applied this patch because I think if every node did it we could remove ordinals and the problems they bring to the Blockchain?

Theoretically it's possible, but who knows how reliable is it. You can initiate connection with any full node, then send "mempool" message[1] which ask list of unconfirmed transaction. After you obtain the list, you just need to check whether it contains any Ordinals TX. Or just ask Ordinal TX data using "getdata" message[2].

1217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How do timelocked transactions work? on: March 17, 2023, 12:00:57 PM
By Mistake? Yes, I was trying to create a two-factor authentication wallet willingly because I thought it would be more secure. The error says: Could Not Retrieve Terms of service: ErrorConnectingServer(TimeoutError())
There are some small security benefits to using a 2FA wallet, but it comes with an additional cost in fees (both larger transaction fees and fees to the third party TrustedCoin)

For reference, the cost is 0.005BTC (for 20 outgoing TX) and 0.00125BTC (for 100 outgoing TX)[1]. And for 5-8 years, you need to consider whether TrustedCoin still rnu their service in the future.

as well as a loss of privacy due to the reliance on said third party.

Additionally, their privacy policy state their company is U.S. based and use some third party[2].

1218  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Had enough of ordinals? on: March 16, 2023, 10:22:56 AM
Question: is there anyone out there that can illustrate how to remove ordinals
transactions from the mempool of my node?

Only for mempool? Use this patch and compile Bitcoin Core from source code, https://gist.github.com/luke-jr/4c022839584020444915c84bdd825831. You just need to follow compilation guide from https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/tree/master/doc#building. But if you don't want to store any Ordinal data on blocks, you should run Bitcoin Core 0.12.1 or other client which doesn't support SegWit which means your node doesn't store any witness data.
1219  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Decipher xprv or seed from keystore when I know the password on: March 15, 2023, 12:31:04 PM
--snip--
Both xprv and seed are in hex. I've already told you.
I need xprv and seed to be converted to xprv in base58 format, seed to words.
--snip--

At least from seed (in hex format) to words it should be straightforward. An example,

Code:
>>> from mnemonic import Mnemonic
>>> mnemo = Mnemonic("english")
>>> xprv = '419ff3b824753f296223325a300a694a9641135558eedda79d9cb74f046e1457'
>>> len(xprv)
64
>>> xprv_bytes = bytes.fromhex(xprv)
>>> len(xprv_bytes)
32
>>> mnemo.to_mnemonic(xprv_bytes)
'dose zebra unlock employ fault net mass green focus leopard olympic news goat meadow fever build tank diagram grunt hub utility damage eyebrow view'

Take note it require library from https://github.com/trezor/python-mnemonic. And in case i also misunderstood what you want to achieve, i would suggest you to add expected input/output with some examples to your question.

And Ubuntu makes it particularly hard to install Python 2 in recent versions of the distro, so you should start with an older Ubuntu version such as Trusty (14.04) or Precise (12.04) that have Python 2.7 bundled.

Not only Ubuntu, but most newer version of linux distro. And i'd recommend to use Debian 11 since it's newest version of Debian and still ship Python 2.7[1] rather than using EOL version of Ubuntu.
