FYI to the bidders, there's a BCN/BTC spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApxM1ORCN-5pdFJYR3EzdTlHS2IxRkg1OVVkdXE2N2c&usp=drive_web#gid=0

Based on that, this is worth at least 0.2 BTC.

How much is your bid? Smiley

12865  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the genuine new code coins? on: April 20, 2014, 03:59:48 AM
BCN and BMR are anonymous coins based on Cryptonote. BCN is older but recently discovered in this community and BMR is brand new (started mining a day or two ago, with no premine).

They are PoW blockchain based, but have a new code base (not a bitcoin fork)

Spondoolies, did you say something earlier in the thread about running the SP10 at above 35 degrees ambient (spec limit)?

Interesting way to discover the price, if anyone bids. But the first post is not really informative so I think you should explain the coin in the auction itself. We keep using phrases like "based on CryptoNote technology" but the vast majority aren't going to bother looking up what that means. Which is a shame because this is not a BTC fork and deserves more attention.

On a related note, this topic's first post should also be more informative. Links to BCN or the CrpytoNote website should be secondary to explaining everything right here (including the ring signatures). Most people don't have the initiative to do 5 minutes of research.

It has a link to here. This thread should be more informative, I agree with that.

Also, in terms of structure there are volumes that can and have been written about auction formats, but generally I prefer a best price auction where all winning bidders pay the lowest winning bid. You get a bit less payment from the highest bidders, but you also encourage higher bids since they risk less (avoiding winner's curse).

12874  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Options trading thread on: April 20, 2014, 01:55:12 AM
The auction idea is a good one. It's a way to get people trading on the same asset in an otherwise sparse market where it is hard to find a buyer and seller on the same terms at the same time.

I'd suggesting offering a few different strike prices and expirations to keep it interesting, but not too many, again don't want to dispersed the market too much.

The smallest unit should be whatever you think is worth the trouble of administering it.

12877  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Looking to do the smallest possible group buy 2 sp10's from spondoolies-tech on: April 20, 2014, 01:12:13 AM
Will they ship the two units to different locations or do we have to pay for shipping twice?

no computers are duty free to the usa.

I think it may depend on where they're coming from. That's why I'm asking.

It would surprise me if imports of this type of equipment from Israel were subject to an import duty, but you never know.

12879  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to build trust? on: April 19, 2014, 10:22:29 PM
How are we supposed to build trust on the bitcoin forum, because it said we should not ask for loans simply to build our trust.

Participate in the community and especially contribute to the community. That is how you build your reputation. There is no magic formula or quick path to a reputation and there can't ever be, because any such method will be exploited by scammers.

It's up on git. Can someone compile the Windows binary?

Please see my comments below: patch wasn't tested properly. It's better to stay 1-2 days with some node not patched. This will help in case of problems with this patch.

The absense of this patch doesn't influence miner's income in most cases.

Sorry, I'm confused, can we continue mining with the wallet and bitmonerod from yesterday?

Yes, you can.

The problem with the block chain being stalled was caused by no one having the patch. As long as some nodes have the patch, everyone else can continue using the old code.
