Thoughts?  10 Seconds seems like a long time when a lot of alt-coin block times are 30-40 seconds.

If you can't improve it, you need to factor that into the profitability calculation. All else being equal slower blocks are better.

For what it's worth, you might want to take a look at this article: http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/2014/02/05/cryptocurrency-exchanges-steal-just-badly-built-keep-away-bter-com/
Bter might not be as trustworthy as we would like them to be...

I had an issue like this with bter (and posted about it on bitcointalk on a few bter threads), but eventually I did get my coins back. I don't think they are stealing, "just" unreliable software and bad support.

Also, I've had reasonably good luck with cryptsy support on these, and you can pm or email bitjohn and he will often see that these issues get taken care of.

I seriously doubt there is any exchange with anywhere near the coverage of coins and support and reliability that is even as good as cryptsy (not to say theirs is always perfect -- it is not).

Also, I'd add that often cryptsy's problems are coin-specific, so it may make more sense to disable sending on a coin-by-coin basis, perhaps automate this with a cap on the amount of value in limbo per coin.
13663  Economy / Securities / Re: [NastyFans.org] NASTY MINING | NASTY POOL on: February 10, 2014, 04:19:24 AM
With bitcoind 0.9 the rules for tx fees are no more hard-coded. This is good. But it is hard for the nastyfans policy. It maybe not clear what tx fees to add to purchase order prices.

I ask for feedback on some ideas:

Maybe there is no tx fee added to purchase order prices. And payments to sellers are added to weekly distribution instead of separate transactions. This reduces purchase order costs but adds tx fee costs to the distributions.

Another idea is to set a fixed purchase order tx fee cost that goes into a new tx fee account. Payments to sellers are added to weekly distributions and the tx fee account is used to help pay distribution tx fee. This does not reduce purchase order costs but will reduce distribution costs.

Feedback appreciated.

1. Pay whatever fee is recommended by the bitcoind client (its supposed to be dynamic or something, I think).

2. Subtract that from the proceeds of the sale.  Sellers should factor fees into their selling price.

3. Check box for sellers to add seat sales to their distribution account

In the unlikely event that (2) minus (1) above is negative, proceed to (3) regardless of check box.

Judging by wafflepool's stats page, it seems the btc/MH/day is about 0.011, whereas at MC I was getting used to 0.013 atleast. I hope to see wafflepool's income increase as more power is added.

More power will decrease profitability not increase it. We will drive up the difficulty of the coins we mine, driving down their profitability. Pooled mining is not a "contest" where the idea is for your team/pool is to be bigger than the other team/pool.

There a lot of randomness, and more power can help with that. But it isn't clear whether a profitability gap (if one exists) is a random factor or algorithmic differences in either mining or trading. If the latter than growing the pool won't help, only improving it.

13665  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POOL] Profit switching pool - wafflepool.com on: February 08, 2014, 11:46:42 PM
I'm all for adding coins, but it comes down to more of a "how much time do you guys want me to spend on new features" vs "how much time do you want me to spend hitting 'trade' manually"?

It depends. MEOW was very profitable for a couple of weeks when it was just on the non-automated exchange. Trading it once per day would perhaps have added significantly to the overall profit of the pool.

Many other shitcoins are not that profitable and not worth the trouble.

Converting to another type of hardware is not really an option.

I will be able to start processing refunds on tuesday, please PM me with your order on the DZ site, number of shares, meathod of payment, how you would like to be repaid, and payment address. I will only be able to process shares by the full machine IE every 50 shares, and the refund may take up to a week and a half (should be same day but we get swamped with other things). Also, unfortunately the refund fee will still be charged.

I hope this is good enough for now, but do know if you refund you will not be aloud to buy back in.
Thanks for your patience.

With that being said. When you start processing refunds does that mean shares will open up for this round or is it all done with?

You can buy my shares if you can't wait to get in. I will withdraw my refund request as soon as I get payment from you.

Then post the NDA. let's all look at it.

The NDA is under NDA.

"Its NDAs all the way down."

Agree. I bought out the stock at Fry's at a discount recently. I though they were discontinued although Corsair's web site is still selling them (at a higher price).

so it was you?

Heh, yup. These are such workhorse power supplies, I use them for all sorts of things, not just Antminers.

An example of people trying to deal with it.

You should google "bitcoin dust" and read up on how it works.

That post is slightly out of date as the current client removed the 0.01 output rule and reduced the transaction size from 10k to 3k but the principle is correct.

I've had zero downtime on a dozen + Corsair AX1200's at 20-110% load over 3 years.  Worth every penny and more.

I ordered 2 of them.  So today is the 7th of Feb I live in New Jersey USA  How long does this take to get to me?  I assume it will ship on the 11th.   So I get it the 17th?

I have no inside info (or crystal ball) here, but I will tell you that I've ordered these through sushi twice before and one time I received the miners the day before the original promised ship date (West Coast US). The other time it was 1-2 days after.

Good luck.

There's a drug that's supposed to keep you awake. hehehe.. I got a whole bunch of them, but no, they are not for sale. Yes, it is legal. You should be able to find it.

Something tells me that crossing international borders with this would cause more problems than it would solve.

You can get it legally in the US with a prescription if you work shift work or that sort of thing. Frequent travel and jet lag probably counts too.

Looking to buy 3 of these just wanted to know if I use an 850 corsair or similar will the pci-e plugs just simply plug in no more wiring episodes like the first S1s and also as ive never jumped a PSU before whats the best material to do this seen some say a paperclip but I was electrocuted once by a paperclip and don't fancy it again! is there a safer way?

Thanks people.

F

I would be very surprised if you can run 3 off an 850. Maybe 2. You need either separate power supplies or a bigger one.

The current model S1's come with PCIe connectors; just plug and go, no wiring.

You can't get electrocuted by the output from a power supply, although you can cause some nasty shorts. If you aren't comfortable with the paperclip buy a plug to do it. For example: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/5141/psu-218/FrozenCPU_24-pin_Power_Supply_Jump_Start_Connector.html

Re: Removing coins I would keep LTC only because it is a good baseline, stable block chain that will always be there. I would argue that a scrypt switching pool should always guarantee to do no worse than LTC by at least including LTC as an option.

The others I see no issue with removing them.

At least make sure you are running on 240 V.  Another few percent improvement from that at almost no cost.

240 is pretty rare for home miners in the US.

Sure but its not very difficult or expensive in most cases (excluding maxed out box, etc.) to convert a 120 circuit to 240 or install a new 240 circuit.  If you are spending thousands of dollars on miners and hundreds per month on electricity this is a small investment to make.

Sorry guy, I actually care what Bruno has to say.  He's done a hell of a lot more for Bitcoin and this forum than you have.  When he rants, I listen.  I like to be informed, even if it's things I don't want to hear.  Plugging my ears and say nah nah nah can't hear you makes me blind and dumb.  If that's how you wish to evaluate things in your life, so be it.

+1

Powering the ANT S1:

Looks like 360Watts for the standard clocks and 480Watts overclocked.  Here is a formula for those who pay for electricity to properly power the ANT for the LOWEST cost.  (Aside from just hosting with sushi Smiley

Efficiency numbers are based on http://www.plugloadsolutions.com/80pluspowersupplies.aspx

For an 80 Plus Platinum power supply the best efficiency is around 50% load and must be at least 92% efficient:

Standard clocks: 360W/50%(peak efficiency point)/92%(efficiency at peak) =782W.
For standard clocks on an 80Plus Platinum certified PSU you would want a 750 or 800 Watt power supply.  You can lookup the model of the PSU on plugloadsolutions and find a graph of the efficiency of the particular model to find the best load efficiency.

Overclocked: 480W/50%/92% = 1043W
For Overclocked ANT on an 80Plus Platinum certified PSU you would want a 1050 watt power supply.

RAILS:
If you get a single rail PSU you don't need to worry.
If you get a balanced dual rail PSU make sure the two rails are of equal load and you MAY not need to worry.  Personally I wouldn't risk it as the ANT is two separate blades and may not draw power evenly.
If you have more than two rails on the PSU.  Find the nearest garbage can and throw it away.

I'll gladly run numbers on different models of power supplies or ratings or be told that this info is completely wrong by someone smarter than me.

This is not minimum power requirements this is the cheapest electric cost power formula for those worried about power bills.

EDIT: that last division point for the efficiency is proly wrong Smiley

you could always underclock the S1, but who would want to do that Smiley

has anyone underclocked to 150gh and come up with a power number?

lets  say at 150gh you use 225 watts vs 360 watts at  180gh  and 440 watts at 200gh.

Bigger savings would come from undervolting which probably (?) requires hardware mods. They claim < 1j/gh on the chip at low voltage but no evidence the S1 can do this.

BTW, nice to see you over here Philip. Away from the pre-order madness.
