1321  Economy / Speculation / Re: Parity watch -> Niger on: March 31, 2013, 04:08:52 AM
We can never know the true efficiency distribution of all miners, but if you take a straight line from zero to one, on a chart where you display efficiency of all miners, sorted by efficiency, you would get total surface of 0.5,  and if you start from an assumption that the most efficient miner is at 0.5, you would get total of 0.75 under the curve.  Thus my assumption for total miner efficiency of 0.5 to 0.75.   In practice, it could be higher,  but if it is lower, it would be a temporary situation.

I think you forget, many people are willing to mine at a loss due to the prospect of long term Bitcoin ownership.
Which is still a dumb idea.

Spend $100 in electricity and get 0.5 BTC, or spend $100 on Bitcoins and get 1.0 BTC.  The choice should be obvious.  Mining at a loss is never a good (financial) idea.
1322  Other / Off-topic / Re: Your water is tainted on: March 31, 2013, 04:02:19 AM
Apparently it's not just the water, but anything made with the tainted water, that also gets the fluoride. So put the waste in any city's area (in my case, almost the whole state) and you have a lot of fluoride going everywhere.  Even if you purified your water, anything home grown is going to be an issue.  What to do, what to do.  Everything's poisoned, aside from whatever's imported.
Honestly, move somewhere that doesn't flouridize if you're that worried about it.
1323  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin article on yahoo on: March 29, 2013, 09:34:02 PM
It's ok - they still have to hear about it 6 more times before conversion.
1324  Other / Off-topic / Re: I'd like to ask for some help. on: March 29, 2013, 09:32:53 PM
i dont want his coins. he can donate what he owes me. that was what i was thinking about from the start. but i never got to propose that cause the fucking guy wont negotiate with me.

Thank you for your generosity, since you have agreed to donate them I will gladly donate them to the "Pay Matthew's bet fund". Thank you again.
Thanks for being understanding BTC guy.  Now that you have donated the coins owed to you, you can get back to paying the people you scammed.
1325  Economy / Speculation / Re: North Korea readying rockets to aim at U.S. targets. DO PANIC AND BUY ? on: March 29, 2013, 09:01:48 PM
That's like panicking because a 3 year old is attempting to beat you up with his bare fists.
1326  Economy / Services / Re: High End Retouching/ Photoshop Services on: March 29, 2013, 08:49:38 PM
I do too!  It makes me want to give you a mugshot of me or my wife and see what you could do.  Smiley

Go for it, I don't bite Smiley
I would, if it was free.  Wink  Unfortunately, I cannot spend money on things I do not need at this point in my life.
1327  Economy / Services / Re: High End Retouching/ Photoshop Services on: March 29, 2013, 08:08:20 PM
what's wrong with freckles?  Huh  Cheesy

helloes and welcome!

Hello! and thanks for the welcome
I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with freckles, in fact I think they're beautiful. Which is why'll you see I leave them Smiley

The freckles were enhanced in the retouched version.  I thought the same thing at first, then saw the lines under her eyes disappear in the retouched version and figured out which was which.

EDIT:  You can also see some frayed hairs removed, slight changes in the shape of the eye, excellent shading on the upper lip that must have taken like 3 hours, and various other subtleties.

Yes you're correct. I love the roll overs since it allows you to pick up all the little things much easier.
I spend so much time on the images to assure you cannot tell if it's been retouched, or how, by just viewing the final result.

Thanks for noticing Wink

So... anyone worried yet about BFL delivering?
No, they will.
+1.  For me, the big question is WHEN.  But not even BFL really knows the answer to that, only that it will likely be soon.

Josh ignoring paid customers to spend more money luring people into the trap.
Go to their forum if you want a response.  They are not ignoring customers.
1331  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] BFL SC Single first-day preorder - $15k on: March 28, 2013, 11:26:51 PM
I sold the first SC Single order for 77 coins yesterday. So there IS a market for this. All it takes is a knack that BFL will ship soon, and some balls Tongue
Interesting...!

Amazing the price disparity between the forum and eBay.  I suppose it has something to do with chargebacks.  Cheesy
1332  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Blockchain.info mobile wallet bug on: March 28, 2013, 11:25:20 PM
I keep getting an error trying to send Bitcoins using the blockchain.info app on an iPhone.  After scanning the QR and entering the amount I want to send, then confirming that I don't want to add the address to my address book, it errors out with "Number of addresses must be between 1 and 200".

Any ideas?

EDIT:  BTW, sending to the same addresses from my desktop works fine.

Thanks for the report. How many addresses do you have in your wallet? Under 1000?
Yes.  Like 20, maybe.
1333  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Transaction propagation speed - experimental results on: March 28, 2013, 08:12:35 PM
Interesting analysis.  Rather than creating transactions to test, you simply test the first and last time you hear about any given transaction.

The problem, as Zeilap pointed out, is duplicates.  Not only might node A send the same message to you twice, but it might send the same message to peer B twice.  And peer B might not have chosen to send it to you the first time, for whatever reason, but send it to you the second time.  Then it appears that it took X number of seconds to reach peer B, when it is not, in fact, true.
1334  Economy / Collectibles / Re: CASASCIUS PHYSICAL BITCOIN - In Stock Now! (pic) on: March 28, 2013, 08:07:57 PM
Hi,
I think that I have discovered a vulnerability related to the Casascius Public Keys.

Each Casascius coin has printed a Public code made of 8 characters, for example this 1GdySJP4.

This code is a FirsBits address that resolves to 1GdySJP4RvRPQydyJVavKKuwtNaTvxaa4C.

Checking the public code is the only way of prooving that a coin has not been opened (apart of the hologram).

Using vanitygen I can generate a bitcoin address to cybersquatt your firsbits (1GdySJP4) so when you check the coin balance you will be checking my address balance and the coin is maybe opened and spended.

How is that possible?, Firsbits is unique.
The firsbits of the example coin is 1gdysjp and not 1gdysjp4 (as printed in the coin), so the firsbits 1gdysjp4 is available for anyone.

Apart from what Cas has already posted, as soon as he loads his coin/address say 1GdySJP4 that creates a FirstBits address after a few confirmations which is the currently shortest unique prefix, it could be just 1GdySJ (expressed in lower case as all FB's are that's 1gdysj) but no one can get any other FB address with the same prefix until they have a different subsequent character than this first one, ie 1GdySJP4xyz would give a FB's of 1GdySJP4x (1gdysjp4x). Also it seems that FirstBits is down atm & has been for weeks so I'm not too sure about it's future, I like it though & hope that it re-appears.
I programmed FirstBits for FreeMoney.  I'm not sure what's happening with the site, but I know blockchain.info lookups of firstbits were much faster.  Perhaps he felt that his site wasn't necessary?  Regardless, if it stays down indefinitely and the domain comes back up for sale, I'll probably nab it and get it running again.
1335  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] BFL SC Single first-day preorder - $15k on: March 28, 2013, 06:11:15 PM
okay well i would simply bid the price you paid. Quite simply no one even knows if BFL is shipping or has any update. This is starting to become like a pirate saga.
225 BTC it is then!  Wink

Its a good idea to get a thread like this started so that when they ship you can post video, etc.

I would like to take this opportunity to jump on the band wagon. so that there's no bidding war I'll say 16k for my Single won for the BFL video contest. It will ship out in the first batch as well. What am I going to do with the 16k? buy more Singles, of course!

(and SgtSpike, if i'm stepping on your toes let me know and I'll delete this post.)
I don't really care.  I don't expect anyone to take my price seriously, but am just putting it out there in case they would like to, because you never know.
1336  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] BFL SC Single first-day preorder - $15k on: March 28, 2013, 05:16:27 PM
are you accepting bids less then 15k?
I will consider them, sure.  Accept them?  Doubtful, but you never know.  Wink
1337  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] BFL SC Single first-day preorder - $15k on: March 28, 2013, 04:24:32 PM
Yeah, if I had a first-day minirig to sell, I wouldn't take less than $300k  Cheesy

Really.  A single one is 2% of the bitcoin mining network right now (if it existed).

It would make some serious bank.
1338  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Dumb Question : If I found a security flaw with a major bitcoin company .. on: March 28, 2013, 03:21:54 PM
This problem was discussed several times before, including on my chat.
I don't know why they decided to fix this only now, they already were aware of this problem.

By the way, Google doesn't magically index those pages, somewhere, somehow, someone posted his URL on the webz.
I heard that Google sometimes crawls webpages that its users (Chrome) visit?  True/not true?
1339  Economy / Marketplace / Re: I buy vintage PC games for Bitcoins on: March 28, 2013, 07:42:38 AM
Hey so, back to my games collection.. what about a Mac game?  I have Kings Quest V in the hard box (bigger box, put together like a board game box is), on 5 1/4" (or 3 1/2"?
Can't remember) floppies.  It's in excellent condition.  I think I picked it up at a garage sale for a few bucks thinking it'd be worth something in the coming years, being that it's in such great shape.

EDIT:  Nevermind, looks like it's not worth much.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kings-Quest-V-5-Absence-Makes-the-Heart-Go-Yonder-Manual-MAC-adventure-game-/251056531523?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a7422a843
