1321  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can you transfer large amounts of BTC using Lightning Network on: January 16, 2023, 08:45:58 AM
Is the Lightning Network used strictly for small transactions between two parties or can one party use it to send a large quantity of BTC (e.g. 35 BTC) to the other party?  Is there any advantage to sending large amounts using the Lightning Network vs. using the normal bitcoin Blockchain?

If it's that big, no reason to NOT do it on-chain. Theoretically, you could send it via Lightning (if you find a channel) but I don't see any reason to use Lightning it's simply wasn't meant for this. LN is for small, instant payments. Use the right tools - you can also hit a nail with a wrench, but it's better and more comfortable to do it with a hammer.
1322  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Risk of jail for developers. Should you be anonymous? on: January 15, 2023, 07:14:39 PM
The government cannot arrest you based on something that you did when it was not a crime. If Bitcoin was made illegal to develop then using it would also be illegal. No one can be held responsible for open source projects unless they are actively committing changes to the project after it has been illegal to do so. I think there are a lot of reasons why you should remain anonymous when developing public open source software but I do not think this is one of the reasons.

Correct, but you forget that governments are good at adjusting the laws to fit their needs. So, something which is perfectly legal today may become illegal in a blink of an eye. Then you're going to jail.  Roll Eyes
1323  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: my friend lost the password for his crytowallet. what he could do? on: January 15, 2023, 09:33:02 AM
Dear BTC members,
My friend lost the password for his bitcoin wallet. however many BTC companies offer to help him by sharing wallet.dat file.  I stopped him because of scammers.

My question is, is there a way to help recover his wallet?

please share your thoughts.

Regards

I guess you could try to bruteforce the password. Just start by installing the bruteforce software and then try to configure it by entering the data that you have (like approximate length, characters it contains etc). It should be pretty straightforward. If you'll face issues with configuration, just ask here and the community will guide you. Good luck with recovering your funds!
1324  Economy / Economics / Re: Twitter could launch in-app ‘coins’ to help creators make money on: January 15, 2023, 08:42:12 AM
Quote
The app is also working on "awards" that can be purchased with coins.

It seems Elon Musk’s Twitter is working on a new scheme to make money from the platform. The service appears to be experimenting with an in-app currency called “coins” meant to help creators earn money from the platform, according to screenshots shared by two app researchers.

The feature has been spotted in recent days by Jane Manchun Wong and Nima Owji, app researchers who often publish images of unreleased features. According to their posts, coins appear to be an extension of Twitter’s existing tipping feature. “Coins allow you to support creators who Tweet great content,” reads a screenshot shared by Wong and Owji. An image shared by Owji back in December showed a new “Coins” tab in the same section where users can keep track of their tips.

For now, it’s unclear exactly what Twitter’s plans are for coins or when the feature could launch. The company, which no longer employs communications staff, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. But the screenshots suggest Twitter is at least considering featuring coins prominently in its app as both Wong and Owji spotted it in the main sidebar.

But coins may not be just for tipping. Wong also spotted an “Awards” feature, which allows people to use coins to buy in-app gifts for others. According to the image shared by Wong, users would be able to buy gifts for as little as one coin (called “Mind Blown”) or as much as 5000 (called “Gold”). It’s not clear how much coins will cost, though Twitter would presumably get a cut of revenue generated from coin purchases.

So far, Elon Musk doesn’t seem to have publicly weighed in on coins or awards, but he has spoken broadly about wanting more ways for creators to be rewarded. He’s said that Twitter Blue revenue would potentially “give Twitter a revenue stream to reward content creators” and that “creator monetization for all forms of content” is also in the works.

It’s also worth noting that despite the “coins’ moniker, the feature doesn’t seem to have any cryptocurrency tie-ins, at least for now. “Twitter Coin is still under development and we don't even have any evidence that it's something related to crypto,” Owji noted. “Don’t let the scammers fool you.”

Aside from youtube ad revenue has there been a social media platform offering the following features?:

He’s said that Twitter Blue revenue would potentially “give Twitter a revenue stream to reward content creators” and that “creator monetization for all forms of content” is also in the works.

I'm interested as to how they propose to deploy content creation revenue given the text limit along with limitations on server video bandwidth. Could image based memes could be considered approved content?

Could they conceivable payout decent revenue based on end users publishing a few sentences of text? Could that disrupt the freelance writing market where some authors are paid by number of words published?

They're reporting twitters proposed internal currency coins feature will not be crypto based. Which is interesting development. I think most of us expected dogecoin support. Or something similar. There have been a few previous leaks that this was coming. Although unfortunately the sources were apparently deleted before anything more than a few unconfirmed screen caps could be recorded.

While twitter's launch of a watered down version of facebook's proposed diem and libracoin projects might not be the most exciting headline anyone has seen. Perhaps this could be a step in the right direction?

Musk seems to be obsessed with coins and tokens. He went from Bitcoin to Doge, from Doge to his own coin projects etc. I mean, why does one need to reinvent the wheel? Just use Bitcoin or Lightning ffs. He's just not really happy he can't control Bitcoin I guess.
1325  Economy / Economics / Re: Sanctions at work:Russia posts its second highest deficit in the post-Soviet era on: January 14, 2023, 07:59:30 PM
Look. For some reason, everyone decided that sanctions are like a toggle switch, or a lethal injection into a vein - once, and that's it, the body cools down! No. Sanctions don't work that way. The sanctions are stretched out in time and have the goal not to try to quickly "neutralize", but to make the country's economy, financial system, industry, military-industrial complex suffer an irreversible destructive effect. It's like a boa constrictor that slowly compresses the rings around the victim's body, first immobilizing it, then it becomes difficult for the victim to breathe, and then a crunch of bones is heard. And even if the victim manages to fall out of these embraces by chance, this victim will never become as fast and strong as it was before - the muscles and tendons are already torn, the brain is already damaged from lack of oxygen, the internal organs are damaged and do not work as they should, and rather everything will no longer work as it was until recently, and the skeleton is broken and will grow together for a long time, but crookedly, causing pain later with every movement ...

You're completely delusional. A tiny Caribbean island of Cuba has been under sanctions since 1959! 64 years dammit! That's a very slow constricting boa. Russia is not geographically isolated and is self-sufficient so my rough estimate for the sanctions to start working is approximately NEVER  Grin
1326  Economy / Gambling / Re: slots.video - reinventing jupiter rising` on: January 14, 2023, 07:45:01 PM
JupiterRising.xyz is now www.slots.video
I am now using a premium domain, this domain values at $700.

I've reinvented the entire platform into a different type of casino.

Through the backend, I am now able to distribute shops.

Shops have a manager, their owner, who creates his own cashiers who are his employees.

Cashier's jobs are to manually create their shop's player accounts upon request, as well as handle their deposit and their withdraw manually.

So essentially, I am a distributor who disburses credits at wholesale to shop owners.

Depending on the amount you would like to purchase in wholesale is what determines the % you receive them at.

$900 -> 3000 Credits @ 30%
$1,625 -> 6500 Credits @ 25%
$3,000 -> 15000 Credits @ 20%
$5,250 -> 35000 Credits @ 15%
$10,000 -> 100k Credits @ 10%

Shop managers are able to create their own Helper, Rules, Faq & Article pages for their own shops that players will be able to see.

For this next week, I am willing to offer demo shops that will come with 1000 credits.
This will cost $100, after the 1000 credits you will go back to standard pricing.

I like the concept but as many others already mentioned in this thread it can easily turn into scam. It would be nice if this could evolve into some kind of "decentralized" or "social" casino platform that would be pretty cool.
1327  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Call centres selling fake crypto taken down in Bulgaria, Serbia and Cyprus on: January 14, 2023, 07:18:05 PM
Good news from Europol - some call centres selling fake crypto were taken down.

From time to time we may hear about people who received a phone calls with a very attractive investment proposal. Many of that people accepted the risk and gave their money to scammers. It looks like for some time we will have much less phone calls like that, as many centres has been taken down.

Some details on Europol page: https://www.europol.europa.eu/media-press/newsroom/news/call-centres-selling-fake-crypto-taken-down-in-bulgaria-serbia-and-cyprus

(do I understand correctly they inform about the action one year after, or someone made a mistake with a date? publication date is Jan 12th 2023)

These guys are really annoying. Last time they called me from Warsaw, Poland (perhaps relocated?). I still can't believe how many people are becoming victims of these scam calls. Every time I hear about them in the news, they're reporting MILLIONS in scammed funds. How can people be so gullible? Do some still believe the Nigerian prince's treasure exists?  Grin
1328  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin developer @lukedashjr's wallet was hacked on: January 13, 2023, 10:53:13 PM
This is terrible news. I wonder how these hackers got a hold of his cold wallet addresses if they were so secure. I think besides reporting such eventuality to the local authorities, or maybe even FBI, he may also ask exchanges to freeze funds with relations to these addresses so they could be returned if things go well.
Frankly, initially I thought this was FUD/hijacked twitter account. I'm too lazy to scroll through 12 pages of this thread but I suspect it turned out this indeed happened and his stash is really gone? If so, what can I say? Another proof you don't have to save but rather spend it all on Lambos, hookers and blow while you can. Roughly 20 million? That'd be enough to live 1-2 years in luxury (without buying any expensive RE for sure).  Roll Eyes
Point taken, this just puts fear to the people of this industry coz if cold wallets can be hacked remotely, what else can't be right? Then again I am pretty positive he'll get the funds back somehow, long as he knows who to talk to and where to consult.

That's how FUD works, yeah. And good luck hacking my paper wallet remotely.  Grin

Interestingly, this news coincides with global natural gas shortage. Seems more like a political decision. But how viable is life without fossil fuels? What is the next thing to be banned? IC engines? But will we be able to rely solely on electricity?
1332  Economy / Speculation / Re: Did Miss El Salvador cause the Bitcoin price to spike last night? on: January 13, 2023, 09:46:16 PM
Alejandra Guajardo, who represented El Salvador at Miss Universe 71, wore a costume with a Bitcoin theme. El Salvador is known as the first nation to legalize Bitcoin as a form of payment. Did Miss El Salvador cause the Bitcoin price to spike last night? We have gained $1,000 over the last 12 hours.

They just demonstrate to the rest of the world that they are prepared to move beyond simply embracing the cryptocurrency area by changing the way we perceive a cashless society. Adoption is a real phenomenon that won't end there.

If it's so, the effect is still there - I can witness some nice upwards price action right now - we're attacking $20k at the moment. If we'll breach $20k the future ahead is bright - fair chance to reach $40-50k this year and new ATH after the halving next year.  Cool
1333  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why is it becoming a thread for casinos refusing paying very huge winnings? on: January 13, 2023, 06:30:26 PM
May be this is not the case and this time the machine malfunctioned, but I've heard stories of casinos and bookies refusing to pay winnings. Most of the time they're are accusing customers of trying to scam casino/bookie. In this particular case they're trying to blame it on a technical glitch/malfunction? Not nice.

1336  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin can be banned or stopped by governments on: January 12, 2023, 09:16:02 PM
Theoretically it can be banned worldwide. Practically it cannot.

What does it mean?

Nothing has ever been banned worldwide. In some countries you cannot own weapons, in others you can own machine guns. In some countries you can't drink alcohol outside, in others you can, in some countries you have speed limits for cars, but there are countries where there are no limits on certain roads.

Well, yes and no. If the US would ban Bitcoin that would be a great challenge for Bitcoin. US are notorious for banning entire nations from, say, using dollars for trade. If they'd ban bitcoin that would mean most probably you couldn't cash out (at least Bitcoin > USD) as sanctions would be immediately placed on banks processing these transactions. That would be a real black swan event for BTC.
1337  Economy / Gambling / Re: What else should an established crypto casino add? on: January 12, 2023, 09:11:34 AM
Hello Bitcointalk community,

TrustDice team here. As we continually improve our platform, we think it is crucial that we also seek some genuine inputs from Bitcointalk community, so we can better involve you all in this creation process and better cater to your needs. This fits what Blockchain truly stands for!

What extra do you expect from a (somewhat established) crypto casino? A few aspects we can think of include:
- More crypto original games. Minesweeper and plinko, so we've heard, are getting trendy. Any more thoughts and would these interest you?
- More cryptos accepted as payment options. We currently support BTC, ETH, EOS, USDT and USDC. More has been requested - but will it make depositing easier for you? And which cryptos should we add, in your opinion?
- Additional features for our chat room?
And feel free to tell us anything else you really want!

Just in case anyone isn't familiar, we launched in 2018 and have since become one of the longest standing names in this fiercely competitive industry. All of the games we offer—Crash, Dice, 6000+ casino and live casino games, sports betting, and esports betting—are powered by cryptos.

Thank you for reading this post, and thank you all for being part of our journey!

TrustDice Team

Update:
As frequently asked by many on this thread, we do have a bonus exclusively for Bitcointalk forum members. Click here to find out!

I'd suggest more live casino games with hot female dealers. You have several streams from Evolution, which is great, just add more variety (and less clothes haha). In my opinion, you don't need to add any more cryptos, Bitcoin is the king!  Cool
1338  Economy / Economics / Re: Sanctions at work:Russia posts its second highest deficit in the post-Soviet era on: January 12, 2023, 08:42:33 AM
Source

For some, this might be a surprise since we've been bombarded with news about how sanctions don't work, how Russia is making quadrillions from energy exports, , and many more claims that were simply unbelievable for someone who would know basic economics.

And just as propaganda fades away when hit by reality, so have Russian claims

Russia started the year claiming a budget surplus of 1.33 trillion roubles or 1% of GDP in January
https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/russia-see-huge-budget-deficit-dec-after-gazprom-fuelled-surplus-nov-2022-12-13/

A bit further down the road, the president of Mordor himself declared that Russia's budget surplus would come in at 0.5 trillion roubles in 2022
https://www.livemint.com/news/russian-economy-to-decline-by-2-2-5-per-cent-says-president-vladimir-putin-11662541324566.html

All of it went in smoke as sanctions start hitting, gas prices tumbled, the price cap of oil was agreed and many more, leading to a 2.3% deficit at the end of the year, and this 2.3% is what they claim, so just to be sure, add another 3% at least.

With gas prices being lower than last year during this period, but with Russia selling just 1/3 of it now, with Urals trading full 33$ down from a year ago to 52$ but with Russia so desperate to sell that it does so even at $38 per barrel, it's obvious what the budget income will look like this year. On top of that add the hundred do thousands of job losses once companies pulled out, a figure that will start to bite around now since a lot of them were generous enough to make a 6 to 12-month payment before firing people, and the hundreds of thousands dead and mutilated in Ukraine and the hundreds of thousands that fled Russia with full pockets, and those were the guys that earned a lot, a real brain drain that will leave its mark for decades.

But of course, there will be some that will say Russia is stronk, Russia has resources, Russia this and that but Russia is a shadow of the URSS that had all of those and much more, but still ended in the garbage bin of history! You can't wage an economic war when you're dirt poor and your ally is the one that should tell you a few things about the sanctions that turned the wannabe global power into an economy the size of Denmark but with 50% inflation and unable to feed its population, although it also turned out they are pretty good at killing and hanging their own citizens.

The bottom line is that when economics are involved, nationalism and pride are useless, you can lie to yourself whatever you want but this won't change a thing, you can dream of anything you want but this won't do any good either once you wake up, so the right choice is doing something about. And the first step for a population to not fall into this is by not having a dictator in charge, not being a slave terrified of going against the ones that should fear your vote, and stop blaming everyone else for the things you could have avoided. Not all resources on earth and all of humankind's glorious history will be able to offset the disaster a moron can unleash!

Talking about sanctions, did sanctions stop Iran? North Korea? Venezuela? The answer is no. Did sanctions stop Putin? No. Will they? Most probably not. That's all we need to know about sanctions - they don't work.
1339  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Risk of jail for developers. Should you be anonymous? on: January 12, 2023, 08:37:23 AM
I was looking at Christine Lagarde's latest remarks on CBDC's and it seems pretty clear to me that the agenda of banning cash and then replacing the euro with the "digital euro" is now unstoppable, which will for sure make the Bitcoin price go up. However, it basically means that if you are supporting BTC, you would be developing a tool that "enables money laundering, terrorism, etc" and challenges the CBDC monopoly.

How realistic is it that public figures would be facing charges in the future? As a developer, should you remain anonymous? At the end of the day satoshi knew he was going against the status quo and managed to stay safe, however, what about all these doxed developers? I can see how they'll look on github and try to hunt contributors. We are facing a scary future. It's better to say steps ahead and plan accordingly. Someone with resources probably could move jurisdictions before it's too late but what about the rest. And even if you could move you could see yourself in an Assange situation trapped in some embassy. I would like to know if developers here think about this at all and what is your escape route if shit hits the fan.

Staying completely anonymous in the modern world is nearly impossible. I'm sure CIA, FBI and all other "three letter agencies" know who Satoshi was, who Bitcoin developers were/are etc. Anonymity doesn't exist, it's only a dream. If you start going against the system, you will be identified and tracked asap.
