141  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Mtgox trustee and return of funds on: August 07, 2020, 09:36:06 AM
Hey, could someone direct me to the most relevant mtgox thread to have fresh news if any ?

Wikipedia stops in march 2019 : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mt._Gox#Bankruptcy;_stolen_bitcoin_(2014%E2%80%93ongoing)

On google news found 2 recent articles :

https://financefeeds.com/mtgox-trustee-secures-extension-submission-deadline-rehabilitation-plan/

https://www.coindesk.com/2-billion-lost-in-mt-gox-bitcoin-hack-can-be-recovered-lawyer-claims

In march 2020, the trustee got an extension up to July 1st 2020 but what happened since ?
Will the defendants get the 2014 USD value of their bitcoins held in mtgox or the current value ?

It only took 4 days to come back to 11 900. It's bullish.

The price action feels like May 10th when it dropped 1400$

Looks like it's hanging on AT 9000!!!!!

(again)

9095 now

previous short term high was 9165.5 (on bitmex)
second previous short term high was only 8991

what is the support ?

There are still a lot of bears but a lot of pressure for a higher price as well, i think we can go test 10k again and this time or a following pump up, we may go much higher
146  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 13, 2020, 10:27:03 AM
The price has been raising with higher highs and higher lows since the 8157 low on may 11th 08:05PM

Think we could go up close/past the previous short term top of 9164.5
147  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 06, 2020, 09:34:48 PM
It feels most of the sellers are just speculating it will go down before it goes way up. They in fact want more BTC.

The weak hands left already.

Should I FOMO in and buy bitcoins ?  Tongue

It felt around 8K$ was a coherent equilibrium between the real commercial and technical network and the anticipations and the future.

We are sitting around 8800$/coin atm. On one hand, it feels it could get up to 10K$ and find a new higher equilibrium with all the money printing and risks of lost value in both USD and EUR. Bitcoin could to it correlated to the financial markets or with the financial markets going down.

On the other hand, there could be an other rush to liquidity first. The financial markets have been going up and Bitcoin has been mostly correlated with the stock markets. A lot of investors are still optimistic about a V shape recovery after the confinement and we have dip buyers that put floors on the market. Also, the market knows the central banks will intervene more and support prices so it feels they have been disregarding decrease profit forecasts, unemployment and the huge difficulties in some sectors.

149  Other / Politics & Society / Every crisis is an opportunity for the government to grow its power on: March 18, 2020, 01:38:12 AM
Price fixing, privation of freedom, nationalization, the crisis will justify everything and most will accept it for the good of society but the next one in charge of the big central government could abuse these new powers and we will have been trained to accept it.

It's very toxic to see how the states chose to turn their back to reality, to the free market and to osound money.

Our cash should not go to bail out poorly managed companies that have been buying back their prices instead of saving such as most US airlines or to fixe prices because there is a huge opportunity cost to it. Our ressources should go to the companies that innovate  and create great products for consumers, the companies that have the ingenuity to do more for a smaller price that their competitors because they are the ones creating a lot value and the profit is their reward. Some companies had the foresight and prudence to keep enough cash and ingenuity to survive adversity.

The central government cannot print the economy it wants. Value comes from competition and freedom that reward the ingenious.

The price is going up from the January 2th 2020 low around 6900 and the consolidation around 8100 usd between the 10th and the 14th of January.

There is resistance around 9000, what and when is the next resistance upwards of 9000 ?

Any bitmex traders here ??
152  Economy / Exchanges / Bitmex liquidation fund refunded to biggest traders ? on: January 12, 2020, 03:35:23 PM
Bitmex has a huge insurance fund :  https://www.bitmex.com/app/insuranceFund

As of this morning there is : 33 749 XBT in it so 275 millions of USD at current market price.

Does it need such a big fund and have they withdrew from it for an other purpose than fund unfilled liquidation orders ?

If they never withdraw from it, it could grow way bigger than needed, I am curious if there is some information available in terms of speculating what they could do with it in the future

Once in a while, it goes down, for example :
10/3/2016   37,3167 XBT
10/2/2016   43,7329 XBT

6/23/2016   24,4343 XBT
6/22/2016   48,7981 XBT

At 8100 USD we are in :

-A December 2020 bull market

but also in :

-A H2 2020 bear market
-A 2019 bull market
-A December 2017 bear market
-A 2008 bull market

Your pick ?

October 31st price poll : >$20,000   - 10 (7%)

Some of us are extremely optimistic. It is bullish for the price because it's a massive support for the price.

bump

I suspect many of the members who have posted in this thread are with us no more, but the deal is still on...

Arise my bitcoin, arise!

I am still here Smiley, still hodling lol. I wonder what percentage of early adopters sold the majority of their holdings this past run once it hit $1200 again. I was wondering tempted to take profits off the table, but given the fact that I would just spend the money on something stupid probably, I have continued to stick it out for the long haul. I'm too bad at timing the market so I just ride the highs and lows.   I'm essentially long on all coins except I blew it on Ether and sold on the way up. Now it's too hard for me to purchase at literally 40X of what I purchased them for this past November.

Some of us made some money, re-invest or pay a portion of the morning, some of us are in beach houses in Porto Rico or Malibu but a lot of us missed it by selling early or losing the bitcoins and are frustrated  Wink
156  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Peter Schiff, the famous investor, does his first youtube live and on: July 16, 2019, 11:49:31 AM
Thanks! That's a great video btw.

You are welcome.

Peter Schiff has very good points against Bitcoin and very good points about Gold, let's help ourselves and stop saying gold has no value !!
As for Bitcoin, the price is extremely unstable and most people use it to trade or profit from a fiat currency nominal appreciation but it would be interesting that he also makes more positive arguments for Bitcoin to show you understand the value it can have. Bitcoin has 2 huge values :
-The fact you can digitally hide money just by being careful about how you get your bitcoins and transfer them. For example, you can use a mixer or buy new coins from a miner.
-The value in your bitcoins can never be seized nor have third party risk if you save it yourself, not on a digital wallet or an exchange.

Yes your bitcoins can lose 90% of their value but this value you have is hidden, yours for ever and can appreciate in value as well. You know funds in most banks or safes can be seized or freezed by a government for or an institution for many reasons : financial, political or just to transfer the value to someone else : your associate, your debtor, your ex-wife.

There are huge legal and fiscal risks in Bitcoin but the probability that the worst will materialize within 15 years is far less than 100% so it does not eliminate all the value. We shall fight for the freedom to be able to own bitcoins, not surrender to some that want to outlaw it.
Understand that betting on something that has 1% 10% 20% or maybe 50% of losing 95% of its value is not for everyone but in a few sectors, particularly in the tech sector, the data and the experience of many VCs have shown you can do it profitably.
Have you ever invest in tech ? Facebook and Amazon may have looked overvalued by traditional investors like you but they have showed they can bring in tens of billions in profit every year and many many others companies have shown that with a lot of capital they can build brands that take huge shares of a market in a matter of a few years.
The central banks have been creating a lot of inflation to prop up bubbles and that put a lot of upward pressure of prices but the innovation and creativity of tech companies put a lot of downward pressure of some prices like the price of getting information, some services, hardware, travel or move around a city. The US are not only a huge government and always higher taxes and debt, it's also a lot of creative minds that innovate and find more efficient ways of doing pretty much everything, that counteracts the failures of government, create new wealth that ultimately brings new taxes to the government, help it survive and allows it to grow even more. The US also has a lot of residual wealth accumulated in the past, investing or not in the US is not a choice to be made between the US and a perfect country but between the US and other very imperfect countries, as you know.

Last point, the Bitcoin network is well done in terms of security. Cryptography is maths and not just yet an other software, you can judge by yourself of it's robustness by digging into the tech behind it : it's unlikely it will be cracked soon.
The Bitcoin foundation had to intervene many times but the network is automatically self correcting : if there are few transactions,  the amount of nodes needed is low. If there are many transactions, all things being equal, the incentive to have a node increase so there will be more nodes and the network get more secure. The network can work with only 2 computers connected to it.

Think Jerome Powell said it simply but well : Bitcoin is a very speculative store of value. It has value now like you often points out and it is likely it will have at least 10% of its current value in a month, in a year and even in 10 years so it's coherent to get 1% of your net worth in bitcoins as an insurance in case you need to perform a secure and private transaction. For example, how would you easily and securely send money to help a libertarian politician that would have all its financial assets cut off ? Bitcoin !

Peter Schiff, the famous investor, does his first youtube live and asks to be convinced of the value of Bitcoin :

158  Economy / Speculation / Re: Analysis on: July 09, 2019, 08:07:02 PM
Tomorrow, the president of the FED, Jerome Powell, will talk in front congress. Will it tip his hand and explains how dovish he will be and will market participants feel how much he is ready to cut the federeal rate and create currency via QEs or other monetary options ?

It's possible the USD will tank, gold and bitcoin will rise.

Within 12 months, there will be a break-out and the trust in USD and EUR will go down, probably abruptly. This is very bullish for BTC.
159  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 09, 2019, 10:40:42 AM
There was an open sell order of 7500 btc at 12,100 and the wall has been entirely bought up !

Nice !

It makes me think why would someone put a sell order of 100m$ because if you do, it means you want to sell, why put such a high selling wall that will be bearish for the very price you want to go up ? Maybe because you don't want the price to go up but the wall was eaten and the 7500 btc were sold.
160  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 09, 2019, 07:57:07 AM
Some think it peaked and that there should have a correction do they go short, it rallies and they end up covering which fuels the rally even more.
+
FOMO

But at some point the whales pumping will sell and a portion who bought up 8k+ in 2017 will remember the felling they had of not selling at 15k+ only to see the price going down under their buying price so they will get prudent and sell some.
