re: open source. Qora had stated awhile ago,

Quote
The source code of the complete project will be provided after a 1-3 months. This will protect investors against early clones.

Makes sense to me, just not sure if he meant that time frame after release or after the "Guaranteed Features" were done.

From my short time on this forum though, it would seem to me that anything less than a full release of the source (as per Qora's post) wouldn't be seen as favorable by the crypto community at large and a full release would actually be required for "full" acceptance.

Allrighty. So regarding my wallet issue. Upgraded Java to the absolute latest and greatest. Deleted the data and resync'd.. Ran for 4 hours or so without any trouble. Unlocked it for 10 minutes, locked it and it ran for another 5 hours I think without any issues (last time it started messing up after about 2 hours of unlocking/locking). So unless something else has changed, that seems to have been my issue but we'll see how it goes. Might be worth adding to the faq or something. I noticed some things weren't on the faq, like the faucet.

Coupled with the fact there are definitely a group of individuals who are actively trying to keep a lid on the price of Qora.

I suppose that's possible. But looking at Bter, a LOT of coins have been going down over the last few days. Don't think it's necessarily specific to Qora. From my experience with marketing things on the net, summer typically slows way down. Could be having an effect on some of the markets as well.

You got to be skeptical that the problems are mainly coming from newbie accounts when the price is starting to rise.

Everyone starts out as a newbie. Besides, the ones that have an agenda are pretty easy to spot. Should be clear from my first couple posts in this thread I'm a real newb when it comes to this crypo stuff. I have a total of about $3 invested in some coins, just playing around to get my feet wet and already "lost" (not really since I haven't sold at a loss as of yet) something like 12% as I didn't anticipate the prices going down.. lol..

Hey...  were we being attacked earlier by any chance?   Undecided

What do you mean?

I have been getting the red circle a lot today and was wondering if the network was being attacked.

Why not ask if there was any issues instead of leaping to were we being attacked. You are inadvertently spreading fud.

My wallet has been open for 5 days, no issues.

I've been having problems with my wallet as well.. and someone else reported a few days back that he "lost" a bunch of Qora although that could have been some sort of theft. I've learned over the years that when there's some smoke, there's usually some sort of issue and it's perfectly understandable given it's all new code so highly likely there's various bugs.

Well, let's hope that these "bugs" don't creep into the BTER Wallet.  (They currently hold all of my QORA) :/

WTF is this seriously....

Someone lost their Qora and someone have issues with the wallet now = various bugs? Seriously???

If this is not fud i dont know what is.
Or maybe you just assume it's all fud because you hang out on this forum a lot.. I'm just letting the dev know what problems I'm having so he can look into it. Isn't that what one is supposed to do especially with something new? Do you seriously think there aren't any bugs? lol

1406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Poloniex exchange just added Monero Markets and removed LTC markets on: July 24, 2014, 02:39:56 AM
Really doesn't matter how well Monero is trading today, it's new. 6 months from now, 12 months from now, that will tell whether or not it truly has any value.

I spoke too soon. One of the transactions from the 17th changed to showing 0 confirmations whereas before it was showing > 1000. Now it's gone completely from the transactions list and the amount has been added back onto the balance for that address. Will let it run for awhile longer to see what happens to the confirmed and generating balances. I wonder if it's because I had unlocked, left it for maybe 10 minutes and then locked the wallet again. This is very weird.

If I create a new wallet using my original seed, will it recreate all the same addresses?

I could have saved you some time if I had seen your posts earlier...  deleting just the data folder doesn't do the trick every time.

If you want to be sure you are recovering correctly...  delete both the data and wallet folders and then recover your wallet from seed (using freshly extracted files is better than just deleting the two folders).  You will get all the same addresses as long as you have saved your seed properly.  If any of the addresses that are holding QORA are missing...  just click New account until they appear.

Thanks. Going to check if I need to update Java and see if that fixes things first. Pretty weird, almost as if the java garbage collection kicks in and clobbers some things given it seems to be only related to the wallet itself.
1409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: July 23, 2014, 10:37:12 AM
Does anyone else have some weird things happen with the wallet when you let it run for awhile? First happened to me when v13 was released and I was running v12. Balances would revert back to some previous value, previously confirmed transactions > 10 started to say 0 confirmations . Upgraded to v13, same thing, deleted data and let it resync. Everything looked fine. I spread some coins out between all 10 accounts so I could watch things. Whenever I let the wallet sit there running for awhile, the same thing starts to happen. Deleting data and resyncing fixes everything but every time I let the wallet just sit there in the background the balances start to change. A little while ago one of the transactions went from > 200 confirms to 0 and then I checked it maybe 20 minutes later and it was back to > 200. Confirmed balances and generating balances are still correct though so far.

Could the wallet be screwed in some way as deleting the data and resyncing does fix the issue. I have had some instances where it didn't close properly.

I grabbed the Windows exe, resynced and have been running that for almost a couple hours now. The issue hasn't reappeared as of yet. Prior to this I was using the jar via run.bat.

I just don't see why a coin such as Qora isn't already in the top 10 list in market cap.

Well it's 17th on Bter and lots of coins have been going down in price over the last 3 days. Is there a rush for some reason?

There hasn't been really any promotion. From what I've seen so far is that few people even know about it, and of course the community wants open source. I sort of like the fact that it's under the radar at this point and the dev is focusing on the code right now. Having something truly solid is far better for the long term IMO.

1412  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Moderated Thread - One Click Install Is Here[Updates & Discussion] on: July 23, 2014, 09:25:11 AM
**NEM requires Java 8**.

Seriously? Soooo.. There is no real intention for this coin to be used by the general public for quite some time to come? I know programmers just love to play with shiny new things but someone should have smacked them upside the head and said a big fat no to that one.

You can install Java 8 just like 7. We provided a link too so what is your problem?
You're the first one to complain so you might not want to talk about the "general public" here.
I'm probably the first one to complain because I'm not part of the crypto community and have spent the last decade marketing shit to the general public.. I spent a decade before that managing programmers and keeping them inline so that the products they created could actually be used by people and not just "techies". The general public has a hard time programming their DVD players.. Of those in the general public that have java 7 installed on their computers they probably only have it cause their kids did it so they could play minecraft. You have to create things that someone who is practically "brain dead" can actually use.

Every single coin out there has these sorts of problem, no thought to actually catering to the general public. They just "hope" that they'll somehow come on board. Everything I read on this forum is all about catering to the community and of course the markets. The first coin that will actually focus on catering to the general public will actually have the chance to "win". I'm not picking on NEM, as I said all the coins suffer from this problem. It would just be nice to see one that actually thinks seriously about it before hand and doesn't put roadblocks in their way.

you guys are sooooo gullible here it's sad and hard to watch..

Only in Crypto would you be hoisted a legend and an allstar coder because you can look at source code and compile it with MingW LOLOLOLOLOLOL

how much Bitcoin did you guys give him already ?

And a few hours later in another thread by the same OP.

I think the OP is legit and honest.. he has my support Smiley

Good job verifying the code.. it's a time consuming boring pain in the ass i think.
It would take a LOT for me to go to that much trouble.. i am faaaar to lazy hahha

i dont get updates to my winnings since i have arrived to the winning value of " 0,00010946 BTC"... Huh

What is going on?

GroundZero

Can you give me more details?
If you got checkins( current price~15 satoshi) every 5 minute it will not included in the main balance. It will be converted into BTC every month.
Kindly,
       MZ

I have tried again ...

So i have 190 checkins , but the " Balance" value is stalled at " 0.00010948 " Huh

Is this a bug?

What have the owner to say about this issue?

GroundZero

I think it was yesterday that I was noticing the same thing. Did a lot of checkins and never won anything and yet the day before I was winning. Haven't played in about 24 hours though so maybe it's working now.

Just a heads up. The site goes down pretty much every night at around 11:30pm PST or so for a bit. You probably are already aware though since you're talking about moving servers. Which hosting are you using now and which are you going to use?

Another newb question here. When sending money there's that transaction fee. It defaults to 1. Can it be set to 0 or some small amount like 0.000000001? Why is it even something one can change. Shouldn't it just be a fixed percentage or something? lol

By the way. As someone who is 50 and has been programming etc since I was 16, I resent the whole "40-50 years old guys only care about their boring job, dumb kids and ugly wives )".. kidding.. lol

minimum fee is 1. You can set it higher and support the forgers Wink

The 1 is an arbitrary rule that you agree on when using the main client. It could be set to 0 or 0.0000001 too!

Ok thanks. 1 is fine although when all you have is 20 it seems "huge". Was also thinking in terms of the price of a coin. If this was bitcoin, 1 would be unrealistic.

And indeed "forged".
Soooo.. It generates it based on the transaction fees and how many coins you have?

I know randomness is also a factor.

Like NXT Don't expect to get rich from Forging. Think of it as interest on a bank account.

Ok, thanks.
