OMG i cant believe people are still talking about the pre mine ... this HAS to be an attempt to keep the price low or people are not thinking at all.

Just stop for a second and think about it ... IF this was a pump and dump what are the devs still doing here ? Why are they still working on the coin, adding new features and merchants ? The coin was up to 60 sat, then it was at 30 sat for a long period of time, then it slowly went down and MUCH MUCH more then 700 millions have switched hands.
So IF the dev's have dumped all the pre mine WHAT THE FUCK are they still doing here ?
It makes 0, ZERO, NO sense for them to keep working on a coin, take a look at the real pump and dump shit coins out there, dev's disappear right after they dump !

The coin is doing okay, it has tons of merchants, a great name and people are working hard on it, if only all this shit talk stops it will start slowly to rise.
So please use your brains, dont read and believe everything random guys are writing !
The issue is not premine. It is:
- lack of transparency about it. Even more, lack of presence of the dev. Extremely busy is not an excuse. When you are extremely busy, you do something about it, like finding someone to replace you, at least temporarily or at least publicly ask for it.
- tyranical behaviour/scare tactics of demodding and deleting post.
1462  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TEKcoin PoS/PoW on Cryptsy! 30 days 40% Interest on: June 11, 2014, 01:10:51 PM
I also don't see thundertoe as any sort of ogre. I like both men, at least so far as I've dealt with them. But my only real care about it is TEK.
I would appreciate public answer from thundertoe, more comprehensive than the last one. Reason for this is what we experience with Mintcoin at the moment. Don't give me a taste of déjà vu by playing the silent dev, thundertoe. I do not want you to say that someone is right or someone is wrong. I want to acknowledge the issue (and describe how you understand it) and state what you will do so that TEK (and TEK holders!) is in no danger. Simply said, showing you are still in the loop Smiley

People appreciate reactivity. Silence brings FUD.
1463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Ellicptic curve implementation of Monero; developers feedback @ http://monero.cc on: June 11, 2014, 12:54:28 PM
P.s. 'Contact' division in the official site http://monero.cc does not work - I can not send a message (replies "405 Not Allowed").
Fixed, thank you.
1464  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TEKcoin PoS/PoW on Cryptsy! 30 days 40% Interest on: June 11, 2014, 04:33:43 AM
I've talked with presstab. What he told me is really concerning. But contrary to him, I believe TEK can be saved. Here's how:

- Should a "certain event" happen, don't panic sell. Remember this in the months to come.
- Sell 25% of your staking every month (this holds true to any high-PoS, not just TEK).
- Do whatever you can to get TEK get more widespread. The more widespread, the less sensible it will be to what I heard

And now for the good news:

There is new repo here: https://github.com/davidlatapie/TEK/

This is 1.1 with an addition from Presstab himself; he was kind enough to point me at some optimisation for the 1.1 code that makes it possible to sync from scratch. I tested, it works. Credit entirely goes to presstab with inspiration from Tranz.

I do have the 1.2 source (and could have created a 1.2.1 out of it), but by respect to presstab, I won't use it.

There is no binary for Windows or Mac. First because I don't have a Windows or a Mac and I don't know how to cross-compile. Second because hosting binaries on github costs money after a certain amount of downloads - of course, donation could change that but without donation I won't put binaries on the github. If someone is willing to host binaries, I'd be happy to point them - remember that binaries can be infected though, nothing beat compiling from source).
If you are using a Debian-based Linux (like Ubuntu), you can get get the wallet by just opening a terminal and pasting this like one line:
Code:
apt-get -y install qt5-qmake libqt5gui5 libqt5core5 libqt5dbus5 qttools5-dev-tools && git clone git://github.com/davidlatapie/TEK/ && cd TEK && qmake-qt5 tekcoin-qt-linux.pro && make && ln -s ~/TEK/Tekcoin-qt ~/Desktop/TEK
This will install the necessary tools if needed then download and compile the wallet and finally creatre a link on your desktop (if you use a non-English Linux, change Desktop accordingly; if you use a non-Debian distro, change the package manager accordingly - yum for Red Hat, pacman for Arch...)

Instructions: https://github.com/davidlatapie/TEK/wiki

Finally, and this is very important: I am not a coder! I am the team leader for Mintcoin and a core member of Monero but I do not code. Softforking TEK is the closest to code I did so do not expect improvement on TEK from me anytime soon - that may happen, it is just not guaranteed.

My TEK address, both for tips/donations and because I believe any contributer to a coin should be transparant about how much he holds (of course, I could give someone else's address or have several wallets):
Code:
BpA8BgP9j4JDxQXRjTpzWESCABFHaKdwDv

(you can also open a qoinpro account free coins every day with not even a captcha to fill - just be sure sure to keep the affiliation link)

Hi everyone,

@mgburks: please reformulate this: "The guy just told David to take out whatever he felt he had earned from what was left over from the mintcoin fund and to send the rest back. That's pretty fucking cool if you ask me.". It maybe is because I am not a native speaker, I don't uderstand.

@paspi: mentionning the past to justify the present is a logical fallacy. It was normal to kill Native Austrialian in the fifties, it was normal for CEO to do what it pleased them to do in the 80, it was normal for the stock exchange to be barely regulated in the 90's... The list can go on forever but you get the idea: Satoshi having a massive premine (which is not even a premine, he was just one of the few persons interested in it at the time) is NOT a valid argument.

@all: the closest thing to transparency about the premine is the Mintcoin Fund and the Android Wallet bounty, but together they are barely 1% of the premine - plus, they also contain a lot of money that was NOT given by the dev. Still, I will try to "lead by example" so at least this part of the premine you have the addresses for (it was already given earlier, so this is just a reminder):
Mintcoin Fund
Code:
MsKZ6xRSPJAVVJ7m1oZfNqVcpJ9MyvRzha
Android Wallet
Code:
MpCuSzv7wRCNsSUsf8nEkvVRN3Z32SQcy3
As I say, they contain more than premine, so they are not perfect example, but this is the best we have.

@all: I will be unavailable from the 19th to the 27th of June (and probably some days before and after). You can still send me PM, just don't expect a quick answer Smiley

@all: the second (and hopefully laft) draft of the bylaws was sent today to the French administration. Expect at least three weeks of time now.

Hmmm.. Who is bitmonero.org?  Only way I know they might not be legit is from you.
The only legit site is monero.cc. And this is a core member who's saying it :-)
1469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: June 10, 2014, 09:54:36 PM
I see, do you think a final reward of 1 XMR might be just? I posted the suggestion in the Monero economy thread.
We are still discussing it. Nothing will be decided on this without a MIP and a lot of discussion with the community.
1470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: June 10, 2014, 09:50:10 PM
The only site you should trust is www.monero.cc and the only guys you should trust are the one from the core team. Be careful when you use software from unknown members, a lot of people are preying for your bitcoins.

How do I calculate the amount of XMR I can make mining given my hashrate? I want to know if it's worth it for me or not.
Go to #monero on IRC (freenode) and type
Code:
!calc XXX
Where XXX is your hashrate.

Then you can type
Code:
!price
And finally you use a calculator to compare with your cost (electricity or VPS)

This is great, David. We should capture this and put it to a wiki on the TEK website. The more Linux users the better.
Once Thundertoe give us his github address, I will just have to change the address in this command line and then we can add it on the OP. Thundertoe, what is you github address for TEK?

Woohoo! My first ever TEK stake! That was a long month Smiley
1473  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: June 10, 2014, 12:42:14 PM
I think it's 20 years or something
Eight.
1474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - Vote on Mintpal on: June 10, 2014, 09:54:57 AM
well sure...my gpu's can crack a 6 character password in 3 hours, but i would be dead before i could crack a ten character.
25 GPU, 350 billions passwords per seconds. Your average pro miner can do it and this was two years ago.

Could someone post a link to a more recent record?

Being fixed in the pool code, but meanwhile, mine on smaller pools. Don't mine on a pool where you are much less than 1% of the pool hash rate.
Also mine in a pool closer to your location. Unrelated to dust, but closer = better connection = better effective hashrate = mone monero.
1475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: June 10, 2014, 02:26:02 AM
ohh ok. i dont know how to use install script. i am sure others dont either. perhaps link to precompiled exe files would be good.
Windows is the weak point, I agree. Precompiled binaries would be good, but I cannot personally help on this one, except by uploading someone else's Smiley

For the install script, on Ubuntu, it is really just copy and paste.

yea this is what i got
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.3.9600]
(c) 2013 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\>cd ~ && rm -f install_monero.sh && wget http://david.latapie.name/install_mo
nero.sh && bash install_monero.sh
The system cannot find the path specified.

C:\>
OK so I really need to reword the whole thing for the installation section: these instructions do not work for Windows.
"in order to work for Windows, it is necessary to install MinGW" is at the end of a paragraph, so people won't read it.

to developers

can you include link to lucas cpu miner in op
can you include wolf cpu miner in op
can you update the block chain to more current one

new people need access to this without searching.
http//monero.cc/getting-started has the install script. Wolf's miner depends on the machine and Lucas' Miner is less perfomant. For the blockchain, I'll see what I can do.

I got it noise23.  Thanks a lot.  Oh and if someone gets that 10000% payment to work then let me know
It is very easy to do. Just one parameter to change.
The problem is hyperinflation. After WWI, it was cheaper in Germany to make fire with banknotes than with wood.
1479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TEKcoin PoS/PoW on Cryptsy! 30 days 40% Interest on: June 10, 2014, 01:10:44 AM

For those interested, here are the necessary packages to build the wallet with QT 5:
         apt-get install qt5-qmake libqt5gui5 libqt5core5 libqt5dbus5 qttools5-dev-tools[/quote]

Thanks. Oneline TEK install on Debian-based:
Code:
apt-get install qt5-qmake libqt5gui5 libqt5core5 libqt5dbus5 qttools5-dev-tools && mkdir ~/cryptos ; cd ~/cryptos && mkdir TEK ; cd TEK && wget https://github.com/presstab/TEK/archive/v1.2.tar.gz && tar -xvf v1.2.tar.gz && cd TEK-1.2 && qmake-qt5 tekcoin-qt-linux.pro && make && ln -s ~/TEK/Tekcoin-qt ~/Desktop/TEK
Arch-based should be similar, just replace apt-get install with pacman -Ss

I want to change it so that I can get 100% every month.
Change = hardfork = not good.
Plus, CENT took that route and it spiraled down into hyperinflation (granted, CENT was 1000% a month).

If you want a 100%/month coin, create a variant of TEK. But be warned: since high interest encourages stacking, few people will sell => very low liquidity. Consider two quotes before going any further:

the higher the interest, the less liquid the asset is, resulting in high volatility. [...] TEK is a beast that should not be taken lightly. Lack of liquidity can make it very difficult to exit large positions, which can result in substantial losses. Trade accordingly.

As I said in previous posts: if we want value - we have to make the volume. We have to be willing to buy AND SELL the coins. We can't just hoard them.

That is why I make the following StakeHunter pledge:
I will sell 25% of my stake every month.
1480  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: June 09, 2014, 10:36:23 PM
There's no way an exchange could figure out all the merits of a coin correctly in only a day.
What about pure voting, without bribery?
Plus, one coin over two at mintpal is based on mintpal's choice. They implemented it hours after I mentionned an interesting coin (of which I don't even remember the name now, so it must not have been that interesting). That was back in first part of February when Mintpal was still young and unknown, before even the MINT pump.
