Haha, that last one is sick.  I was interested... Until I saw the price of it on amazon!!!  How much would you be selling it for?

Yeah it was expensive. I think I had just found an old Bitcoin wallet and the price of Bitcoin was on its way up. Again, bad impulse control when I percieve it as "free money". Then again, if I had purchased it for $1500 instead of $1800, I wouldn't have had a single bit of regret. The unicycle is so badass, I can zip around my town on it pretty quickly. Its not like a 5 MPH Segway, I've got it up to 20-25MPH I believe. (Although no one was clocking my speed, so I can't say for certain). I tried riding it while playing the saxophone, I wasn't quite good enough, but riding it with a backpack full of books is pretty easy. As I mentioned in the OP, its a hit with kids and drunk college students. Its the perfect level of, WOAH THATS NEAT! And not nearly as snobby feeling as a segway. I feel like if you rode a Segway around, someone would throw something at you. I never wore a helmet while riding it, because your feet are 2 inches off of the ground, and it can't fall forward/backwards, so all you have to do is put your foot down if you start to tilt left or right. That said, its cool to wear helmets kids, nothing worse than head injuries. Anyway, it has very little wear, the battery holds its original full charge, the only sign of use on the unicycle is on the seat where it got a little scruffed up, but no accidents, clean title, one owner who was a little old lady who only drove it to church on sundays (ok that part is a lie).

I haven't seen any secondary market data for the SBU V3s as they are still a small production company, where they make them individually in Portland. You have to wait for them to build your order. Sort of like a Ferrari, but the unicycle is way better. I mention that because its sort of hard to price used, which is why I'm reluctant to set a price. If someone is genuinely interested, I dont want to list a price $100 too high or too low and end communication. If you are genuinely interested, I'd much rather discuss it via pm rather than doing what I just mentioned.

Also, this feels like a good time to mention a reminder that I accept Bitcoins, a multitude of fiat payment methods, Gold/Silver, Aquarium fish, and I'm also open to offers because Bitcointalk people are cool.
1482  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Salty's Spring Cleaning (Lots of stuff you want) on: March 16, 2015, 10:14:03 PM
Since some of these are missing prices, you're just requesting offers on them?

I dont have prices listed for the Saxophone/SBU as they would require a bit of effort to figure out a used price for them, which I'd be happy to do if anyone was slightly interested in either, but I haven't had the greatest luck in finding buyers for items >$500 in the past, so I figured I'd list them and figure out prices if anyone was interested.
1483  Other / Meta / Re: Russian section is not moderated on: March 16, 2015, 10:11:20 AM
That's not a good idea to mention this kind of activity in the positive context. In fact, it's an easiest way to ruin your reputation and even more, it's a main reason of hatred towards the "western" style of life. Because here in Russia such kind of activity as making the tax evasion report or hidden profits report is not considered normal.

There is a word "stukach" (i.e. "collaborator" or "informer") which is used for name calling of nazi collaborators and any other people who wrote the denunciations. You know, a lot of people still remember how their parents were tried and executed due to anonymous denunciations. And now you can see that some people in russian section are using this word to describe xandry and other candidates, just due to mention of their activity on making the reports.

Interesting. I didn't know that. Is reporting spam, to benefit everyone in the board not different than reporting tax activity or other things that screw a person over thoughr?

Anyway, based on report history, I'd say Xandry is indeed a good candidate, however I don't know how active they are in the Russian section, nor if they want the job, etc.
Balthazar has banned more more than a few times from the BTC-E chat, but you said you didn't want the position anyway, so a semi vouch is there if you want it.

*edit* all of that said, you know the Russian board can to an extent shape how their local moderator moderates. Moderators are allowed to use their own judgement and discretion and can act on what the community wants, and leave what they don't want touched. With some exceptions of course, but essentially you could have a moderator that just moderates spam, and major issues and leaves whatever it is that the community there doesn't want touched.
1484  Other / Meta / Re: CanaryInTheMine is further abusing the trust system on: March 16, 2015, 07:51:08 AM
I do not trust you because of your misconduct with several manufacturers, therefore I added a tilde in front of your name.  That's the reason, I choose not to trust you.

Hmm interesting, I don't have any say in the matter, but I am curious. Why would you not just leave Dogie negative feedback if you didn't trust him, rather than excluding him from being trusted by others? Seems a little bit harsh. I don't know too much surrounding all of the parties involved with all of the hardware producing companies and the recent shenanigans, and I don't make judgements unless I'm involved or have a significant amount of information proving something, but just because you don't trust Dogie, is your reason strong enough that others shouldn't be able to make their own decisions and add Dogie to their trust lists?

Euphonium (and needs new price converter image): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=315834.0

Thanks, I forgot that I had attempted to sell it before, I'll merge it into this thread. Kind of a niche thing, and that may be the reason why I didn't know if there would be much demand for the Sax. I'm going to just go ahead and list everything with more detail when I wake up tomorrow.
1486  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] Magic Cards, Sealed Packs, More coming. on: March 15, 2015, 01:30:10 AM
Do you also want to buy card? I got some nice card that I want sell.
Ex: Liliana of the veil, Snapcaster mage, verdant catacombs and more.

Let me know

Cheer

Valkir

Thanks for the message, but there werent really enough people interested, so Ive just been selling on fleabay. I can probably lock the topic.
1487  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Salty's Spring Cleaning (Lots of stuff you want) on: March 15, 2015, 12:28:07 AM
Can you do any kind of deal for the Snake and the kangaroo sold together? Do your prices include shipping?

Sure, I'm open to negotiation. For everything listed so far, yes shipping is free to a reasonable extent. For something like the gold/silver, I'd include free priority shipping with tracking. If someone wants something overnighted, or shipped abroad, we will have to work something out.

I was expecting to find some of this stuff in Computer Hardware.

Yeah, the PSUs probably should go in computer hardware, but its not like I placed the thread in the wrong place and its more suitable for computer hardware, its just that I'd rather have everything together in one thread since the thread would have been made for the rest of the things anyway. I figure it would be more spammy to have an additional thread for a couple items, and trying to cross reference threads.

I'm loving the activity, I'm out at the moment, but I'll be a bit quicker to update things since people seem interested. I tend to have poor impulse control when things can be bought with money earned unexpectedly. (think making BTC on Alt coins/dice sites or something similar) so I've got a lot of strange things laying around. I've got a Self Balancing "segway type" unicycle, Vintage Thai silverwear, a Euphonium, custom submarine parts, and all sorts of other assorted goodies to list I suppose. I'm not a hoarder, I just like cool stuff.
1488  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Salty's Spring Cleaning (Lots of stuff you want) on: March 14, 2015, 11:33:23 PM
Maybe i've read over it, but where do you ship to?

Thanks, maybe interested in a PSU, depends on the price.

I can ship to anywhere from the U.S, shipping cost may be prohibitive for something heavy out of North America. I also can't ship precious metals to Australia or Germany, but besides that shipping costs are the only limiting factor. *edit* and for the sake of completeness, nor can I ship to Cuba, Iran, Syria, Burma, or North Korea due to U.S trade restrictions.

I'll have the PSU info updated pretty soon, just running through to make sure the ones I have listed are still in good condition, then I'll post pics/prices for them.
1489  Economy / Goods / Closed on: March 14, 2015, 11:03:48 PM
I'm in the process of spring cleaning, so I'm coming across a lot of stuff to sell to my favorite Bitcoin forum, I will be updating the thread as I find more things. Some stuff may be computer related, but I don't really want to make an additional thread in the computer hardware section for just a few items, so this is just going to be my comprehensive sales thread. I accept Bitcoin as well as alternative fiat payment methods, gold/silver, and fish. I'm also open to trades. I have had people offer me zoo tickets, lasers, and all sorts of other neat stuff in the past, so I always keep offers open. I'm happy to use any mutually agreed upon escrow agent, but I ask that the buyer pays any escrow fees. If you have any questions feel free to ask, I can update with individual pictures if there is any interest, else I'll probably just update as I get around to it.

All listing prices include reasonable shipping costs. If you want something overnighted or shipped out of the country, we will have to work out shipping costs.

Precious Metals:

I will sell individual pieces, not in the roll of 20, but shipping gets a little bit more tricky in that case.

(20) Brilliant Uncirculated 2014 1 Oz Silver Britannias
Purchased from Amagi: https://www.amagimetals.com/silver/coins/slv-1ozt-britannia-2014 untouched and have been stored in the mint roll. Can take pictures if needed, but its just a plastic tube with the coins linked above inside. Order of 20 pieces includes the roll container.

Metric Ass Ton of Lucien Piccard men's watches: I purchased them from Amazon recently as I needed a dress watch, planned on returning all but the 1-3 that I liked the best, then realized I paid with Bitcoin, and would be recieving Amazon credit. So before I take the amazon credit, figured I'd see if anyone wants them for Bitcoin. Again, stock Amazon links, but I do have pictures of them in person if anyone is interested. They all come with their original boxes, tags, and 5 year warranty. Also have reciepts from Amazon to prove they weren't purchased from some shady guy in an alley.

Selmer la Voix II Alto Sax with black nickle finish. Its a beautiful instrument with spectacular sound, but it is a semi professional model, and I dont really need an instument of that caliber yet. MSRP is over $3k, I paid somewhere in the area of $2k for it two years ago. Its in great condition, with the only signs of wear being on the keys, that being where you touch constantly, thats sort of a given. Corks are fine, no dings or dents, I can take many more pictures upon request. Comes in its original carrying case. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

This is a stock photo, I'd be happy to take pictures of mine if anyone is interested

Yamaha YEP201 Euphonium please read more about it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=315834.0
"I'm the original owner, and it has never been repaired or relaquered. What you see (or will see if anyone is interested) is exactly what you get. Keys have been well oiled, so nothing sticks. No tarnish or rust on the instrument, well maintained in general. Comes with the original case and a sterilized mouth piece if you need it and all of the original paperwork."

Again, stock photo, but I'd be happy to take pictures of mine if anyone is interested

This is an SBU V3, the ultimate in giving no fucks. It is gyroscopic so you just need to balance left and right. Leaning forward accelerates, and leaning back brakes. I purchased it from Amazon, so here is the Amazon link, again I can provide reciepts if anyone is interested. Incredibly fun to use with drunk friends, its actually rather difficult to fall off of, takes about 30 minutes on average to learn how to ride it well if you have a flat area to practice. Without a flat area it took me a little bit longer, but no injuries were sustained at any point, and if I had a use for it besides being badass I'd keep it. If no one is interested in it, I'll just keep it and continue to be the biggest G riding around on a SBU V3.

Even if you don't want it, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dev5NYzjRvk

I'm also trying to sell about $3,000 worth of Magic The Gathering cards. I've got a few of the higher value cards on Ebay, but plenty more I haven't sold yet. I'm also thinking of doing lots of rare/mythic cards if anyone is interested. Almost all are in near mint condition and are ($2/3+ cards) some $5ish or more. If anyone is looking to resell or just wants some cards, I'd hook them up.

1490  Other / Meta / Re: Make Account Bans limit all but Meta Section. on: March 13, 2015, 07:16:12 PM
We should make bans on accounts for spamming and whatnot limited to all but Meta section or people will keep on making new accounts to appeal their bans. This is getting to be a bit outrageous... search up banned in the members list and find, "whyamibanned, banned_user, igotbanned, banned me again" an more. I think I've proven my case.

Yup its getting annoying, but the fact that people don't read the other threads on the first page before posting isn't something that can be helped. In any other section it would be deleted as spam, but given the subject matter, and the fact that posts in meta are very infrequently deleted, it makes it tricky.

I actually considered proposing this several months ago but never got around to it. After thinking about this for a while, I would think the likely result is that people would just make a lot of insubstantial posts with their paid signature in the meta section in order for them to continue getting paid while they are banned

We are pretty good at detecting that. If someone creates a thread, gets an answer, and keeps spamming, they will still be hit for ban evasion. Meta isn't a safe haven for banned accounts to post, its the one place that they may post to get answers, and then wait out their ban.

My proposal to have any signature automatically removed when a ban is instituted would actually solve this problem because the signature campaign manager would (hopefully) see the removed signature and would withhold payment as a result, and the incentive for someone to post a bunch of useless posts in meta would be removed

That would be really really bad. Sure it would help with the people who are banned for spamming for their sig ad, but what about the people who have PGP keys, etc?

I'm not really sure what to do at this point, people are going to just not read the rules, then get banned, then complain. I'm not sure what can be done about that. Maybe have a single thread in meta where they can post? But that might cause issues as well.
1491  Other / Meta / Re: Questions about using ref-links on forum on: March 13, 2015, 06:54:44 PM
Question #1:

You may use referal links under a couple conditions.

1) It has to be marked. Hidden referal links are often removed.

2) The context for posting the referal link has to be on topic. For example, if I was to make a thread asking what Bitcoin exchanges people recommended for my particular situation, and you responded with a constructive post that was on topic to my question, you could post your referal link, and say something like, heres my referal link if you want to use it.

3) Don't start a thread to post your referal link. If you create a thread, even if its multiple paragraphs and pretty much on point, if you have your referal link in it, more likely than not its going to be seen as a spam advertising thread that will probably get removed.

Referal links are not banned here, but the majority of users do exactly what I said not to above, they get their referal links removed, and the misconception that referal links are banned is created.

*edit* sorry missed a couple of your questions.

Question #2:

You are allowed to put referal links in your signature, the main concern with referal links is people creating spam to give out their referal links. You can put whatever you want in your signature as long as its not a link to malware, or if its a link to a NSFW site, please label it as such. Nothing sucks worse than getting into a bad situation because that buycoinsdirect.com link in your signature is actually a cam site. Different user groups, IE legendary/Newbie have different restrictions on what sort of formating is able to be used in their signature. For example newbie accounts can't have links, certain usergroups can't have styled signatures, etc. That is disabled by settings not something you can accidentally mess up.

Question #3:

The faucet rotator rules apply the same as any referal link, such are the rules that I posted above.

Question #4:

Invite codes are the same category as referal links, and the same rules apply.

Question #5:

When you write a review and include your referal link, its really a gamble. As I said in rule #3 above "Don't start a thread to post your referal link. If you create a thread, even if its multiple paragraphs and pretty much on point, if you have your referal link in it, more likely than not its going to be seen as a spam advertising thread that will probably get removed." It will really be up to moderator discretion how your review is categorized, based on how many other reviews are there out there, how high quality is the post, are you just making the thread to give out your referal link, etc. While you could do it, the chances of the thread being removed are rather high, so you may end up wasting a lot of time writing a good review because of how the referal link is interpreted.

Question #6

And yes, you can ask people to PM you if they would like your referal link.
1492  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Beware New Altcoins on: March 10, 2015, 09:31:15 PM
Thanks for the warning. If anyone sees any malware, please report it. Permabans are pretty much only given out to people who spam and were banned multiple times previously, and people who post malware.
1493  Other / Meta / Re: How to become a Mod? on: March 10, 2015, 07:20:24 PM
First, a need for a moderator is realized in a specific section, Theymos then looks over people's report history, as people who report posts and have a decent ratio of good:bad reports show that they understand the forum rules.  After that, he will contact the best candidate to ask if they would like to become a mod. If you choose to accept, you then have to pass a written exam. If you score high enough, then is on to the physical portion. All of the moderators circle you with oak planks and beat you about the head and chest. If you are able to stay on your feet after 2 minutes, you are then able to pass to the mental section of the test. We find the most infuriating people to assault you verbally. Keep in mind there is no holding back. If you have any shameful secrets, they will come out, and no one that you know or care about is off limits. If you have not snapped, you are a "Plebian" a "junior" moderator accepted into the circle who must triumph over a few more tasks before you are finally ready to get the Staff title, and become a publically known moderator. Each task is different, some times its as easy as fighting a lion using only non carbon based materials. Sometimes you have to break into fort knox (thats my favorite one), or maybe prove the existance of extraterrestrial life, or solve the world's monetary issues. Once done with your task, you will emit a faint glow, and your limbs are now able to grow back. You are now a full fledged moderator.

 Grin

Sorry I couldn't help myself, everything before the "If you choose to accept" is the real answer.
1494  Other / Meta / Re: newbie jail on: March 10, 2015, 07:35:30 AM
The Wall Observer thread is currently 11761 pages. It's over quarter of million posts. That's just one thread. The whole forum is over 10 millions of posts. Have you read all of them? I'm afraid not. You haven't read most of us. Does it mean you dislike most of us?

I think not. It's not about disliking people, it's just that life is short and we can't do everything. We have to choose what to read and what not to. We all have to filter out and we all do it.

So how do we filter out? We frequent some favorite topics and threads and rarely if ever visit the rest. Which mean we all commit group filtering and I can see nothing wrong in it.
But even in our favorite topics we probably skim or skip most of stuff. Again, I cannot see anything wrong with it, the only problem with such filtering is that it is not effective. We may miss some valuable posts, but in the same time we read a lot of posts we don't really need or want to.

I don't know which solution Theymos would choose, but any one would be an improvement over the current state.

tl; dr;
- All of us are gilty in the ignoring sin.
- All of us are gilty in the group ignoring sin.
- All we need is a feature to do this group ignoring more effectively.
- Theymos, please do something!  Smiley

Thats a very strange point of view, not being able to read a topic due to the fact that we can't do everything is not the same as actively ignoring people in a way that is destructive to conversation. If I dont have time to read a thread, then its a given that I dont have time to post there, which means I have 0 impact on the thread what so ever. Ignoring others with valid inputs while still posting in a thread is destructive to the environment created.

The point of a forum is to stimulate conversation about a topic (Bitcoin in our case) if everyone is ignored, why bother even coming here? One huge issue I see, is what if you decide to ignore every newbie. How do you contribute to conversation that those newbies are part of? What if they are discussing something, and you end up just repeating what one of them says? You are then inadvertently spamming. The point is that you are supposed to think critically about a topic, people's opinions, and your own opinions to share your point of view or to add information so that others may expand their points of view as well. If there is a person who is taking away from that, you ignore them and you carry on or report them if they are breaking a rule. If you want to have a conversation with yourself you don't need Bitcointalk for that, there are far better environments for a relaxing chat with yourself.

Another thought, what makes a newbie's post less valid than a legendary members? I have over 90 days logged on to this forum, but I dont think my ability to discuss nor my opinions have changed much in that time. Will the newbies you have ignored automatically be worth unignoring after they post 28 posts over two weeks? And is it not our responsibility as active members of the Bitcoin community to try and help educate new members so that Bitcoin can be more than just an obscure internet currency for geeks and drug dealers? What if we had ignored the beginning questions of the newbies that now own multi million dollar businesses that represent the Bitcoin community on the news and to people who don't know Bitcoin? If you personally choose to not take part, thats fine, but why should the forum accomodate something that in mass would be harmful?

I see much less issue with newbies spamming, than people with signature advertisements spamming.

1496  Other / Meta / Re: What did theymos do with 200K? on: March 10, 2015, 12:56:07 AM
The new forum creation isn't to profit Bitcointalk, we aren't a business, we don't really have much need for money. All funds collected thus far have been for the new forum software. Hosting is now covered by Private Internet Acess, so I can't say that there are many expenses. Thats one of the reasons why new donator tiers were never created, because we didn't need the money, so why collect more? I believe that the forum might be closed source for a period of time after release just to make sure we aren't giving hackers a roadmap to how to cause issues, but then opened up once vetted and 100% secure, however that was something I had heard a long time ago, so that may not be necessary or true. I'm pretty sure it will be free/open source, since that is sort of what we are all about, but I dont think it has been discussed anywhere near this far so at this point its speculation.
1497  Other / Meta / Re: What did theymos do with 200K? on: March 09, 2015, 11:45:10 PM
1.5 million is absolute madness. I bet huge corporations don't even pay that much for their website. Also the slickage twitter had only 75 followers as someone else said. I hope I can trust you guys on this one but a forum for 1.5 million when there are free alternatives is quite large...

But the problem is that the free alternatives are bad. Bitcointalk has nearly a half a million users, it needs something much more robust. The development hours that Theymos spends creating new features for the forum at the moment is an uphill battle, as he not only has to create the features, but also contend with issues in the current SMF based forum software. I agree $1.5m is a lot of money, but this could potentially become a staple in forum software everywhere. Being able to say that Bitcoin created the world's best forum software would be really cool. The only reason the forum was really holding any money at all, was to create a new forum. If Theymos had only spent $50, the rest of it would just be sitting there. Why not make the best forum software possible, since the entire budget is already allocated just for that purpose. And that doesn't mean spending money frivilously, that means creating the best forum with all of the functionality that will really help everyone out.
1498  Other / Meta / Re: Topic moved to "Trashcan" on: March 09, 2015, 11:12:51 PM
The OP's of the deleted thread should be allowed to view the deleted thread in the trashcan. They should be allowed to view their thread only.

That would be a SMF permissions issue. In addition to any other reasons not to allow anyone but moderators to see the trashcan.
1499  Other / Meta / Re: What did theymos do with 200K? on: March 09, 2015, 11:07:14 PM
I did a little bit of research on Slickage and I wasn't able to find much of anything. Does anyone have any details on this company or how they managed to land such a large job without having and PR or advertising (at least from what I could find)? I see they're based out of Hawaii and they have a twitter page and a github account. The twitter page only has about 75 followers. They also have a website but all it does is link to their Twitter and Github accounts. I'm curious how they were able to get this job.

They were recommended by Warren, the developer of Litecoin iirc.

And if they can be trusted 110%?
They could easily build in backdoors of which we would only found out about if things already were to go south.

I mean, I won't question your judgement but are you really sure they can be trusted?

And its all open source.

man are they reinventing the wheel? This forum (SMF) is free to use, why the hell would anyone spend that much money on new forum code? Why not donate it to smf and work with the devs there to make it better?
Obviously it has held up quite well for the last 5 years too; which seems like a pretty good testament to the code.

Yes, we are creating a completely new forum software to compete with SMF. SMF has a lot of issues, it just isn't suitable for our needs. As far as how much money it costs, I hope that it will be well worth it, but frankly, creating new forum software is pretty much the only thing that the donated coins are to be used for. What else do we need? Might as well go all out.
