Completely disagree with you. They aren't going with a die shrink, they are improving their design and building it on a 20nm process.

Didn't know they changed the design. Got a source for that?

I have only heard that 20nm is not cost effective as you can see here:

Hello my friend, I've missed you. Is it too boring at one of AM threads ?

None of those companies can match the price point of SP30 with current gen and Q3 planned hardware.

It has already been done.

2880gh for 4btc.
1543  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: RK-BOX,450GH/S,480W ,shipping date 25th on: June 13, 2014, 09:46:32 PM
i am interested in one of the units. but i would be more interested the the rx-box instead of the rk-box. are you still taking orders for the rk box and will you ship one of them to canada.

Looks like they are both still for sale but minimum order for rx-box is 4 units.
1544  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: RK-BOX,450GH/S,480W ,shipping date 25th on: June 13, 2014, 09:45:20 PM
You forgot cooling costs for the 1PH farm.

Those will add at least another 30% to the costs and you will end up paying for rockminers 3x more than the same farm with SP30. Great choice for the future!

With cooling added it comes out to about 2.5 times more electricity but electricity is still insignificant compared to the hardware costs and delivery date. (also assuming that the sp30 performs/ships as has been predicted by the magic crystal ball)

With cheap electricity (which almost all big mining farms will have) it makes no sense to wait 3 months so you can save an extra 60% on your already dirt cheap electricity costs.

There is a much bigger profit margin on 1.2w/gh now vs 0.5w/gh in 3 months.

I remember that the last year blades were overpriced too, not only the usb sticks! Don't try to hide it.

You might think they were overpriced but they did end up with a positive ROI.

Jimmothy; you make constant bad financial decisions, this doesn't make you a know-all. Did you grab the opporchancity to get in on the Group Buy?
no?

you missed out. stop acting like a hurt child.

It's funny because every insult you've ever said applies to yourself.

And no I did not get in on that group buy which was never actually a group buy to begin with. Not that I would I ever gamble $5000 on a preorder.

Just curious, how much btc did you spend on your sp10's and how much did you earn back? I'd love to know how much a top notch financier like yourself has earned from your investments.

Also what is the going rate for pimping spongebobtech products? Not that I would be interested in ripping off naive investonomers.

So even with this aggressive pricing the miners aren't selling in numbers. What a surprise!

I wonder how will all 60PH going to sell with all these problems.

What do you know about their sales numbers?

BTW they are now selling for $0.79/gh excluding psu.

That's cheaper than your sp30 preorder which is 3+ months out.

And with PSU?

It may be cheaper, but it's more than double the power requirements. All big mining operations will stay away from these because of the excessive heat and power bills. .

$0.81/gh with psu.

The only people who need more efficient miners are those with high electricity costs. Big mining operations will have cheap electricity so waiting 3 months for 50% more efficient miners is absurd.

To put it into perspective,

1PH farm of rockminers = 1200KW @ 0.05/kwh = $810,000 + $43,000/month
1PH farm of SP30 = 500KW @ 0.05/kwh = $850,000 + $18,000/month

It might make sense to go with sp30's if they were shipping in 2 weeks, but they aren't.

Your only savior would be the uninformed casual home users just like last time when AM sold overpriced miners

You mean those uninformed casual home users who all managed to achieve a positive ROI? (excluding usb miners)

Has anyone who ordered an SP10 actually turned a profit yet?

My SP30 is just one and a half month away!

Maybe yours is, but not the ones you're trying to sell.
1547  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: RK-BOX,450GH/S,480W ,shipping date 25th on: June 13, 2014, 08:50:31 PM
All depends on price. Does this come with PSU? But we still need to supply the pi? This has to be under 1 btc to sell...

Yes it does need a psu. Not sure about the pi but afaik you will need to supply your own controller.

Also they are 0.9 btc each.

Thanks for the info. Any est shipping date?

Update

First batch production will be done on 24th,and shipping date will be 25th,email sales@rockminer.com or PM me to get more infos.

Thanks for your support.

Just noticed that anyone who ordered an rxbox will receive extra hashrate after switching for rkboxes.

Looks like they paid ~$0.9/gh including psu and rpi.($0.83/gh at 480gh/s per)

Does delayed = nonexistent?

Exactly.  No miner yet, just renders, cad drawings.

At least there's a physical picture of the RK-box, and Minersource is set to sell them July.

RXbox is anyone's guess still, no physical proof.

You don't know whether they have a working prototype or not.

Rockminer has working HW. And they are selling it for around $1.1/gh.

If $1.1/gh is overpriced, I'd love to know what you consider a good deal.
1552  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The Open Source Block Erupter Project on: June 13, 2014, 07:11:36 PM

Is hardware from rockminer not being sold for $1.1/gh?

All i am saying essentially is that RK-box should be priced wayyyyyy better.

I do hope this happens but I am afraid there is almost no incentive to lower the price any further when the competition is at ~$1.4-2/gh.

Also I think that at ~$1.1/gh we are approaching what it costs to produce these miners (I estimate ~$0.7/gh) so I doubt we will see any dramatic price decreases in the near future.
1554  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The Open Source Block Erupter Project on: June 13, 2014, 06:38:00 PM
Rockminer RXBox doesn't exist, it's still pixie dust.  It's delayed.  It's only $1/gh in your imagination.

Only one that's shipping is the RK-BOX, which is pretty much an overpriced ugly POS.

.9 BTC or $540 for 450 GH/s or over your precious $1/gh threshold and doesn't even include the power supply.

Rxbox does in fact exist and it is not only around $1/gh in my imagination.

0.9btc is only $520 + $10 for a psu = $530 for up to 480gh/s or $1.1/gh.

Even less with preferential pricing.

hence, limited advantage over S1 yet as it is the EXACT same price per same productivity with a small edge going to Rk-box in electricity consumption (~$500 for 5 ants for 3 mo vs ~$274 for 2 Rk-boxes at $0.12/kwh

No advantage if you can get 5XS1 for $240 each

Is saving $250/month on electricity not a significant advantage?
1556  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 13, 2014, 06:23:58 PM
So far, the Chinese have been evolutionary in their approach. This is probably because they haven't had the capital, or expectations of reasonable returns, to invest in large die 20nm ASIC development. They deploy 'old technology' at scale, with tuning to meet short term market demands. After this current generation of Chinese mining technology, they will be faced with the choice of either having to make significant investment in their own 20nm ASICs or exit the market. My guess is that several Chinese manufacturers will join together in a consortium to fund the needed investment and share the results. Eventually, they will consolidate.

I agree that the chinese have been revolutionary but it is not because they lacked capital (hence no preorders). They did not go with 20nm for the same reason everyone else didn't, which is because the costs outweigh the benefits.

Quote
KNC was fortunate in their timing and invested profit from their successful first products and their mining revenue into large die 20nm technology. We'll soon discover what kind of performance this yields. My guess is a 1st in Class machine that they can then node shrink to 14nm without a lot of risk or expense to enable them to stay competitive well into the point on the mining profitability curve where others can not compete because there is too much risk to capital returns.

KNC 20nm will be ~0.7w/gh at the wall assuming the 30% increased efficiency per die shrink. This puts their 20nm chip on par with bitfuries 55nm chip in terms of efficiency. If bitfury makes a 28nm chip it will certainly destroy everything on the market today.

Also large die 20nm technology is not the ideal solution for bitcoin mining. Each chip will need a powerful cooler (most likely water cooled). A bunch of small and efficient 8mm chips with a shared heatsink is a much more cost effective solution.

Quote
Other existing mining equipment manufacturers fall somewhere between these two cases, some relying on die shrinks of old technology to stay competitive, others investing in 28nm and 40nm designs and mostly falling on their faces leaving a trail of unhappy pre-order investors in their wake.

The face falling has to do with the preorders not the process size.

Quote
So, the long and short of it is that we are getting to the point on the profitability curve where if a company hasn't already made the very large investments needed to stay competitive over the next few years, they are out of business. Its is clear to me that KNC, so far, has made all the correct strategic moves to ensure that they are a leader in this market for the foreseeable future.

Completely disagree. I think they are shooting themselves in the foot by going with a die shrink to 20nm instead of improving their design.

they sucks anyway...new BFL is on the way and we are all screwed..as I said earlier,at the end-they will sheep some shit of product just to get rid of obligations..

I lol'd

Here is the newest update from bfl josh:

we now have a supply of boards that do not meet the advertised specs and thus are not suitable to be shipped directly to customers

At least BA hit advertised specs..

And just to clarify - we can purchase starting 6/25 on the website or through distributors like Canary?

We have them available for purchase right now, we should have them shipped to us from rockminer on the 25th.

http://minersource.net/collections/frontpage/products/rockminer-crossbow-440-440gh-bitcoin-miner

Can you come down on the price a bit?

At least matching rockxies prices would be nice.

This was my solution to making the 260GH (big heatsink) 4900+4500rpm fan monster quiet.
Under clock it to 215-220GH and stick 3x Arctic F9 1800rpm fans on it. They've been running like that since February and still going strong.

Well i did manage to get an old heatsink of an frequency controller of 9.3 KW Cheesy, its nice huge

I gonne try to put some pletier elements on the 8A1 and see if it is enough (pure for the experiment, want to know if its gonna work).

Later some photo's

Very cool.

I was wondering do you think it would be possible to power a fan using it as a seebeck generator?

Having a PUE below 1 would be kinda cool.
1560  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Pre-order the Most Powerful Bitcoin Miner from X-Hash! Gridseed A1 1.1TH Miner! on: June 12, 2014, 11:21:19 AM
Looks like a good deal , waiting for our senior member to have a review?  I hope your preorder date will ship on time

Thanks for your valuable suggestion~
For the moment, most of those people who claimed being mining with A1 do not actually running this certified A1 Miner(1.1 TH without overclock), their "A1" has been modified to overclock. As a result, it's less likely to have a senior member to publish a review of Gridseed A1 1.1 TH Miner, for the fact that no one can get it from Gridseed until 20 June.
I understand your worry, that's why I hope one of our pre-order customers is a senior member~~~~ Smiley

Is this not the A1 from innosilicon?
