1541  Other / Meta / Re: How things are working now in Bitcointalk.org on: February 21, 2015, 08:32:54 PM
I complained about an Automated Transactions (AT) topic being moved into the alts section and I get told that that mod might have "gone on holidays" so I just have to wait until they decide to come back.

This is supported by hilariousandco (a new mod who - have a look - has an ad sig).

So now the mods are paid for their posts?

They go on "holiday" whenever they choose after moving your topic and "we should just wait patiently" until they decide what should happen.

Hmm....

(whether or not you care about my issue I think you should care about mods being part of ad sigs campaigns as any reasonable person would know that it is a "conflict of interest")

Its been discussed before, moderators are allowed to have paid advertising signatures. They don't really need to spam to meet their quotas, they can just do general moderator things to meet it, so its not like it changes their behavior. As far as moderators going on "holiday" we aren't employees of the forum, moderators can just dissapear for months at a time without giving anyone notice (although when its known ahead of time its nice to give notice) theres a decent amount of overlap between sections, so if someone who moderates a board goes on hiatus, there should be another person or two who can handle similar reports. That said, if there is a matter between two parties, and one "goes on holiday" I dont think there is really anything anyone can do about that is there?

after reading through your plethora of Meta threads (thanks for that by the way) would you mind posting a link to the Bitcointalk thread? I'll give it another look if you would like, however whoever moved it (assuming it didn't deserve to be moved) does have some precedence, thinking back to how Mastercoin was orginally proposed to be a layer on top of the Bitcoin protocol, but that was ruled to still belong in the alt coin section. So again, if it doesn't deserve to be in the Alt coin section, if your post is really long or technical, I'd guess that it was a very honest mistake.

I just received my order today. Everything went perfectly and the cards came in near mint condition. Thanks, Salty!

Glad to hear it, thanks again.

I got a bit sidetracked this weekend so my cataloging didnt go as planned, however I will get it done as soon as possible.
1543  Other / Meta / Re: I would like to see a suggestion sub forum for the gambling section on: February 09, 2015, 12:01:24 AM
Project development is a pretty good place to discuss developing a gambling site project. I don't think the subforum is necessary.
1544  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] Magic Cards, Sealed Packs, More coming. on: February 07, 2015, 11:34:24 PM
Ok, Fate Reforged pack orders are off the table for the time being now, I've made my latest order, and will update as it comes in. I'm almost finished building my storage system, and am on track to have everything sorted and cataloged by the weekend's close. Thanks to all that have pmed with orders, suggestions, and ideas. I greatly appreciate it. I look forward to expanding my selection and services as the Magic community finds its way to my thread, and expresses to me what I can do to better serve them.

This is a really good idea. I'm surprised how long the Magic series has survived and continues to thrive. I left Magic just as MTGO, the digital card version, started to become popular. Are you also creating a section for digital cards? Or strictly paper?

Either way, good luck with this endeavor  Smiley

For the time being, I'm just doing physical cards, I may expand into MTG Online, but I don't know very much about it, so I don't offer online cards yet. Although, I will probably have to in the near future in order to really be MTGOX2
1545  Other / Meta / Re: Petition to get rid of the default trust system on: February 07, 2015, 05:39:15 PM
You keep saying this is a serious discussion, but you haven't said any points that haven't been refuted. I'm legitimately concerned in your trust system flaws/fixes, however you haven't pointed out anything (see my post on page 4 questioning your OP) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=945896.msg10372879#msg10372879

If you actually want to see the system changed, stop acting like a victim, put some people on your ignore list, and prove that it should be changed and suggest some fixes. The only thing this thread is saying right now, is I'm mad I was called a scammer, the system is broken because I'm a scammer and I don't like it, thats what people are proving by beating the proverbial dead horse. If proving you aren't a scammer isn't something you care to do or whatever, just get to the reasons why the system is broken. Not trying to antagonize you, but if you have legitimate concerns and you aren't just trying to make noise, now would be the time to actually open up a dialog with how we can change the trust system (not to suit yourself) but to make it work better for everyone. Preferably before the new forum software comes would be nice.
1546  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] Magic Cards, Sealed Packs, More coming. on: February 07, 2015, 12:54:30 AM
Shipping to Canada? I actually just started getting back into magic also after a 8+ year break. Simply the best card game ever.

And do you have a minimum order amount? Surely you won't be willing to sell and ship single 29 cent cards, right?

No minimum order, if you want a 29 cent single, I'll ship it. That said, it wouldn't be very cost effective, shipping would be a minimum of $0.50 just to put a card in an envelop with a stamp on it. Shipping cost really depends on order size and order value. The stamp and envelope method is fine for a few dollars in cards, each person has a personal threshold of at what point they want a tracking number which requires an upgraded shipping method.

I used to love playing magic.. i started during arabian knights back in the day (was a fun time).  I have a sealed/unopened box of the "Legends" series somewhere in my parents garage.

Thats worth around $5k, might be worth looking for  Wink

On another note, I've been pretty slow updating the deckbox link, I actually ordered a very large workspace for making coins which has some very nicely organizable drawers that I intend to file my cards away in for ease of access and processing of orders. It just arrived today and I've spent the last few hours assembling it, so my goal is to have every card I have cataloged and organized by the end of the weekend. I'm always searching for cards as well, and I have some additional very nice cards that will be added to the list when the arrive. If you are a fan of magic, let me know what you are looking for, or if there is anything I can do to help you out. I'll be really upgrading my services once I have an appropriate catalog of cards, such as preconstructed decks for new players that want to get into the game, and other general features that you would find at a very helpful hobbyshop, without the hobby shop prices. Keep in mind 5% off of any order when the payment method is Bitcoin, I accept paypal and such as well.
1547  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] Magic Cards, Sealed Packs, More coming. on: February 06, 2015, 11:30:00 PM
Today is the last day to sub your interest for packs. If you want some, make sure you let me know so I order enough.

Banned, thanks to everyone who reported the mass spam pms and to the OP
1549  Other / Meta / Re: What will you do ? on: February 06, 2015, 08:24:05 AM
Warn the people involved first I suppose, if they have active loans Im not sure if Id get in their face about it in case they are intending on paying the loans back. Warn anyone else who may be giving that person a loan.
1550  Other / Meta / Re: 'Wait' to report a post? on: February 06, 2015, 07:09:17 AM
The newbie restrictions are based on actions, I guess reporting a post is counted as an action by SMF,  just like posting or sending a pm. Not because we want newbies not to report posts. Definitely something to note in the new forum software needs if it isnt there already.
1551  Other / Meta / Re: [FOR ADMINS] An Open Letter to Bitcointalk.org Admins Regarding Ponzi Schemes on: February 06, 2015, 07:02:27 AM
Technically isn't all online gambling illegal in the U.S/Russia/Others, so why not remove the gambling section all together?

Theres is a sliding scale of legal involvement in hosting content online. Bitcointalk has very minimal involvement in classified/service listings. It could probably get in trouble for accepting advertising payments from Ponzi sites, but if we aren't promoting the sites, and not collecting a fee on the listings, we have very different levels of legal involvements. (Think Ebay vs Craigslist) if you sell Crack on Ebay, Ebay gets in trouble, if you sell Crack on Craigslist, the authorities might subpoena information from Craigslist to go after the individuals, but Craigslist isn't on the hot seat. I dont recall if Ponzis have ever been advertised by the forum, but I believe there is a general disclaimer to check your jurisdiction before participating. Theymos is all over the legal stuff, and I in no way speak for him or the forums, this is just my interpretation on the matter.

In the US, there is no federal law which expressly prohibits online gambling. However there are laws which deal with wire fraud and money laundering, etc.

Online gambling is legal in some states. Online sports betting as well in others.

Louisiana is one such state which has no laws regarding any types of online casinos. NJ allows poker and other games.

My point to this post was simply Ponzis by their very name alone are "Bad for Business".

GAMBLING

1. play games of chance for money; bet.
"she was fond of gambling on cards and horses"
synonyms:   bet, place/lay a bet on something, stake money on something, back the horses, game; informalplay the ponies
"he started to gamble more often"
bet (a sum of money) on a game of chance.
"he was gambling every penny he had on the spin of a wheel"

PONZI

Scam in which gullible public is enticed with the promise of very high returns in a very short time, but is based on paying off the early 'investors' from the cash from (hopefully ever increasing number of) new 'investors.' The whole structure collapses when the cash outflow exceeds the cash inflow. The originators of the scheme, however, usually disappear with large sums a few days before the crash. Named after Charles Ponzi (1882-1949), an Italian immigrant to the US who, during 1919-20 collected more than fifteen million dollars from some 40,000 eager people by promising to double their investment in 90 days. See also pyramid scheme.

Strato

Yeah I know the online gambling laws are vague and when drafted in 2006 I believe, they werent meant to ban online gaming, but court justices have cited those laws to prosecute online gambling sites. Satoshi dice bans US IPs for that reason. That said, I agree with you, Ponzi scams are no good, the problem is ponzi scams don't advertise that they are ponzi schemes, think Pirate@40.  The Ponzi schemes that come out and say they are ponzi schemes are a known gamble, but instead of a house that always wins like a poker/dice site, the first people in a ponzi are the house. In my opinion people should be able to gamble and lose their money however they want, as long as the gamble isnt misrepresented. A ponzi operator that announces the fact that they are a ponzi scheme I think is fair warning.

All of that aside, I highly doubt the forum rules will change in this regard. Bitcoin is about financial freedom, we arent here to protect your money, we are here to let you discuss Bitcoin etc. Try paypal if you want more security.
1552  Other / Meta / Re: Petition to get rid of the default trust system on: February 06, 2015, 04:24:27 AM
So I did read your wall of text, and let me respond with my own.

Well, first off. If Bitcointalk has a major sway on Bitcoin itself, then there is a more serious issue here than default trust. If a peer to peer decentralized currency depends on the existance of a privately owned forum, then it would be best for Bitcoin to die now, rather than later when there is more money involved.

I found a few issues, your first major issue seems to be that you aren't seperating the economy sections from the rest of the forum. Your trust rating doesn't follow you around everywhere, just where its relevant. There have been plenty of longterm scammers who have stuck around and continued to use the knowledgebase. As long as they stayed out of the marketplace sections, it doesn't matter that much. If you wanted to argue the point, its that buying/selling things has become a video game. But if you go into any of the general sections, no one cares about your trust. My point being, that the social gathering side is seperate from the financial side of the site. You by your own admission haven't been here very long. A good portion of us have been here since the old scammer tag system. It was so heavily asked for that there be a feedback system, that the current system we have today was created. The whole point of default trust isn't to create a popularity or leverage system, its to create a system where people who give accurate feedback can be noted so that newbies take their feedback a little bit more serious than someone's sockpuppet empire. The way it was designed was to protect newbies, not the gullible or stupid. People were supposed to create their own trust lists after figuring out how things worked around here, and the default trust list was to help people not used to Bitcoin's nature not get scammed in their first 10 minutes here.

That said, this and the 50 other threads asking for someone to be removed is proof that the system works. If someone leaves unfair feedback, they are either removed from the default trust list, or if they are left on, people just begin to disregard their feedback. By natural order, that person is then eventually removed anyway. You think that Nubbin's feedback of you is unfair, and if it is, those that added Nubbin's to their trustlist who put him on default trust will make the decision to remove him if his feedback is no longer accurate enough to remain on default trust. If they don't, then people begin to disregard their opinon of who is trustworth to leave others feedback, and an entire branch of the trust system is pruned.

Until we can change the nature of anonymous nonrefundable transactions, some sort of feedback system has to be in place. It has to be resistant against people with multiple accounts, and it has to be able to evolve constantly to warn people of new threats. Is the default trust system perfect, nope. But Theymos has demonstrated time and time again that he is all ears if you have any suggestions, just keep my other points in mind when you are proposing fixes. That said, from my perspective, you are a scammer. I don't know where the 1000 BTC risked came from in your negative feedback, which I suppose is the only questional aspect of it all, but all that means to me is that if we were to ever trade, I'd insist on using escrow. While it would be lovely for you to resolve your pending disputes, I don't really have any judgements.

Good luck with your new forums.

Is anyone interested in Fate Reforged (the most current set) Booster packs? If so, mention so in this thread or send me a PM, I've got some boxes on the way with opportunity to order more if people are interested.
(MSRP $4/Pack)
1 Pack: $3.50
5 Packs: $16.50
10 packs: $32.50 with free shipping!

For larger orders, we can work out deal details.

Fate Reforged currently has one of the highest amount of money cards for the price. I did extremely well on my first box opening, which is why I'm ordering more. If people are interested in sealed packs at below MSRP, let me know and I'll order additional boxes.
1554  Other / Meta / Re: [INITIATIVE] Stop all "altcoin wars" in one click on: February 05, 2015, 09:36:49 PM
1) how can he (op - spr topic op) report BEING BANNED? if he wasn't he would close the topic himself.
2) well if rules allow such "free speech" i will create 10 topics saying bitcoin is a scam. aren't you against, are you?

get him to report the topic, and put the request in the report.

1) You can log in when you are banned, you can't post or send PMs. By having the OP report the thread, and say "please lock the topic" as the comment, we know that it is really the OP's wishes to lock the topic.

2) If you create 10 topics over a period of time suitable, and with different information ie not just reposting the same thread over and over, given that isn't spam, go for it.
1555  Other / Meta / Re: [INITIATIVE] Stop all "altcoin wars" in one click on: February 05, 2015, 08:51:57 PM
when it comes to blatant false scam accusations, ignoring the facts, repeating same fud OVER AND OVER AGAIN like this:

https://archive.today/Qcvj5
https://archive.today/B2r2m

open dialog is not enough.

and again, mods don't wanna ban them after several rules violations = support from administration to sockpuppet terror

mods don't even wanna close the old spreadcoin topic so fudders could continue spreading fud: https://archive.today/o6IXi (mod asks the topic op to report about it although he banned)

Those posts aren't against the rules. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean people can't speak their minds. If you reported those posts, I would have checked to see if the person was creating threads/posting to up their post count, if not, it would have been left alone.

Mods won't close the old spreadcoin topic until the OP asks, you can't just ask to have someone else's thread locked, Grue told the OP of that thread exactly what to do
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=946074.msg10362680#msg10362680

I think my advice to you at this point since you aren't getting it, is to make your own forums where you can censor people as you wish, we just aren't really into that. Spam != people you disagree with.

1) about email: majority of users don't care about their privacy
2) the rest can register an anon one at safe-mail.net for example or service like 10minutemail.com
UPD: anyway you need an email to register or recover password

Uhhhh.... no. The majority of users value their privacy above all other things. Just self moderate your threads if its an issue.
1558  Economy / Goods / Re: Need something from ebay on: February 04, 2015, 08:28:32 PM
You can also buy Ebay giftcards on gyft.com very reliable and established company. I use them pretty frequently, so figured I'd share.
1559  Other / Meta / Re: I would like to delete my account is that possible on: February 04, 2015, 06:55:48 PM
Yep, you cannot delete your account. If you wish to abandon it, your best bet is to change your password to something incredibly secure that even you wont remember. Smash down on your keyboard a couple times, a 40 character password with numbers, letters, capitalization, throw in a few accidental symbols, and it would be real hard to hack.
1560  Other / Meta / Re: [FOR ADMINS] An Open Letter to Bitcointalk.org Admins Regarding Ponzi Schemes on: February 04, 2015, 06:52:24 PM
This is just my personal opinion, but if a site tells you that its a ponzi, who cares? If you decide to gamble in a ponzi, knowing that its a ponzi, that is on you. In ponzi schemes, there is always a loser. Isn't that also true of any gambling games? The house/someone always has an edge, you put your money in hoping to win more, or you lose it. I see Ponzis as a strategy based game of chance. Now if its a company feigning legitimacy, and its actually a ponzi, thats a different story. But if a new site comes out called LukEPawnZ and it says its a ponzi scheme, if you don't like it, avoid it. Ponzis are no more risky than sending strangers online an unreversable currency.
