A New Coinage

http://www.epw.in/postscript/new-coinage.html

Nice article out of India showing recognition that cryptocurrency has a strong chance of replacing fiat completely.

"In the past we have witnessed the emergence of several disruptive products on the internet. However, they were limited to specific domains. But Bitcoin’s target is money, the most common medium of exchange and legal tender, and for many the most critical thing in life. [...] One thing is certain – money will never be the same again."

Interesting how a bubble/crash can be revealed later as a temporary period of exuberance and fear within a larger uptrend.
Crude Oil monthly chart reminds me of something else...

So does Vessenes still have an executive position at the Bitcoin Foundation? Or is he just a standard member and Matonis has taken over his role(s)?

He is still the chairman. People who have been paying up to 20% in the past months to be able to withdraw their hard-earned money can in part thank this guy for it.

MtGox deposits stolen - Vessenes not affected.

Ah OK. And let me guess, even though there is an imminent election at the BF, Vessenes is not affected by that either?

140$ wall is being eaten by little fishes. Trend: down.

TO THE SINGLE DIGITS!

If you want single digits then you better go and load up with Litecoin because you are wasting your time here.

No offense look at the numbers in Argentina.  I would not worry until your deficits are running over 10%.  debt/gdp is not that important it is interest payments compared to revenues.

The problem is that government deficits are never occasional, they are the norm, and cumulative. Further, GDP is exaggerated. GDP from credit financed consumption counts the same as GDP from production (and shouldn't), resource depletion and environmental destruction is not deducted from GDP. Real GDP is also smaller because Inflation is understated though institutional bias (government paid economists) and hedonics.

As of September, how long are withdrawals to US banks taking using ABA? I have some cash in my Gox account I want to withdraw.

They seem to be stuck back at early June withdrawl requests.

I know that English is a flexible language, but stretching "few" to mean 13 and counting is stretching it beyond exaggeration into prevarication. Clearly, ABA transfers have halted.

I've contacted MTGox support yesterday asking about the status of my bending USD wire withdraw. Here is the response I've just received:

#######################################
Thank you for contacting us regarding your withdrawal request.
Due to a change in our banking system we are currently experiencing a back-log of withdrawals that we need to process.
Our team is working hard to increase transaction speeds, but there is approximately a few-week back-log we need to overcome.
It will take a few weeks to get back to normal, and we thank you for your patience during this time.
Again, we apologize for the delay and we will contact you once your withdrawal has been processed.
#######################################

Will keep you posted!
Everyone receives the same reply, word by word, from MtGox's support.

After the uptrend of the last 2 months I expected a retrace to the $110 region. However, the formation on the 12 hour chart  at $130 is looking a lot like the formation at $65. The market seems to be building for the next major leg up.

Man are you insane? Sure you can print as much money as you want but such money does not even have the value the of paper and ink they are made of. Have a look at Zimbabwe, that's most recent event of how incredibly stupid your idea is and how it ends.

Unlike Zimbabwe the US can print a lot more money per unit GDP because it has the reserve currency. No one in the world had Z$ as a long-term store of foreign exchange, or Zimbabwean treasury bonds in an investment portfolio. Eventually however, Fed money printing will cause dollar repatriation back to the US and massive local inflation there.
1552  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-09-08 Halifax Herald, "Bitcoin ATMs coming to Canada soon" on: September 11, 2013, 02:25:05 AM
Does anyone know how the Bitcoin ATM overcomes the double-spend problem?

i.e. Dodgy Dave has 10 BTC at address 1abc. He is ready to withdraw funds, but he sends 10 BTC to another address he owns 1 second before he presents the 1abc QR code to the ATM. ATM coughs up fiat. Dodgy Dave has a >50% probability of free fiat if the ATM transaction is rejected by the BTC network. Time for a free frappuchino at the coffee shop nearby to wait for a few blocks to check the outcome...

Where did you get the 76% monthly difficulty increase?

The 76% is a default derived from the recent trend in difficulty changes. If you think that this is too high then you can manually enter a lower number and make any hardware look profitable.

Ideally, there should be a second variable which is a monthly difficulty increase decay rate, but whether guessing two numbers helps is anyone's guess  Smiley

Probably, but not definitely.
genesisblock assumes the hash rate will continue to grow at the rate seen recently. Instead it will slow down eventually, and maybe even level off a bit, similar to what happened when graphics cards were pressed into service. At the present time though it does not look promising for ROI on most of the current ASICs.

Study the page linked, modifying the Market & Hardware Parameters until you understand the results, then spend your money.

sure ppl have said this but

bitstamp has significantly more volume today than gox

11,403 vs 8,146 BTC right now

cool

Which might explain bitstamp having zero volume shown here:

I hear that MtGox own bitcoincharts.com

They seem to have killed Bitstamp's stats. Must be very worried!

When Theymos started censoring our project threads, it seriously undermined the creditability of Bitcointalk's moderation in my opinion. The Bitcoin universe is larger than Bitcointalk and its 22,000 members.

For info. At the time of writing reddit has 49,912 Bitcoin readers, closing in on the magic 50k
