The payment protocol improvements for 0.9 should be ideal for helping Netflix adopt Bitcoin.

How. Will they be able to set up recurring payments?

The customer would need to be reminded and approve renewal, but the payment request makes the process more straightforward and flexible.

https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0070.mediawiki

Wallet improvements would be required for fully automated regular payments.

1125  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Chilling video about fractional reserve on: January 03, 2014, 06:08:39 PM
In a Bitcoin economy, I expect FRB to become obsolete. Not because FRB is impossible with cryptocurrency, but because governments will raise reserve ratios for Bitcoin banks to 100%.

The reason is that banks can no longer be backed by CB printed money and governments will need to run balanced budgets because the cleansing process of bankruptcy for bad banks and profligate governments will no longer be avoidable through currency debasement.

Unlikely.   A change of currency is not going to change the need for banking services.  Projects will still need to be financed and private banks will be offering Bitcoin script just like private banks offered gold script back in the days before fiat money.

I didn't say that banking services would stop, just that bank loans would only be made from bank reserves. i.e. loans = deposits (instead of 10x deposits like today).
1126  Economy / Speculation / Re: WallStreet Whales are coming: FIG Bitcoin MegaFund on: January 03, 2014, 06:05:11 PM

Actually, plenty of people thought about it - I remember emails going round suggesting it as an easy way to make money off wealthy corps or individuals who would eventually have to pay your price. It took one phone call to have it confirmed that IP law wouldn't stand for "passing off". Most settled out of court, but it was a bit of joke really to think that McDonalds' lawyers would advise paying off Joe Basementdweller rather than enjoy some easy fees. The ones that did get money were those who could show that they had a fair entitlement to use the domain, or had a great generic shout like "sex.com". Later, the Man made sure with the Anticybersquatting Act

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anticybersquatting_Consumer_Protection_Act

Generic names were the way to go. "if.com" was purchased by Intelligent Finance for $1m from its early owner.

The Winkles are setting up a retail fund - a completely different set of hoops to jump through.

Second Market and Fortress are effectively Street insiders front running the twins.

We here have a very rare (for a random public individual) chance to front run the Street. Our time to accumulate is nearly over. When your cold storage is full, just sit tight and get on with life.

In a few years time, when you happen to see the mass market papers telling people to buy into the proven Winklevoss fund - then slowly start selling.

This is the most salient point about bitcoin that most people miss.  This opportunity just doesn't come along every day.  Maybe only once a lifetime.

A similar profit-making event was buying common domain names in the late 1980s, early 1990s.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_oldest_currently_registered_Internet_domain_names

Few people thought of it then.
1129  Economy / Speculation / Re: What price is the moon? on: January 02, 2014, 11:53:56 PM
Moon $1,000
Mars $10,000
Jupiter $100,000
Oort Cloud $1m

We hit the moon already but bounced off.

Am I going crazy or are we putting our electricity in the trash while hundred thousands people die?

Your motives are good but your position against Bitcoin mining as currently implemented is not

Check out Primecoin.
1131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Congratulations CANADIANS, now your bitcoin is the most EXPENSIVE in the world. on: January 02, 2014, 07:30:30 AM
Yes, this is because of all the ATMS placed in vancuver and other major cities, it will only continue to expand, we should becareful though.
More business are also on the rise and more shops are opening that accept bitcoins there. This isnt just happening in canada, is happening
everywhere around he world basically.

Really? Wow... then if Bitcoin ATMs are installed all over the world, then BTC can definitely cross $2,000. BTW... we can only buy BTCs with these ATMs, right? As far as I know, it is not possible to sell your BTCs through the ATM.

You can sell BTC with a Robcoin, but not Lamassu. The Toronto Decentral ATM allows only purchases at present , but they are working on an upgrade which supports selling BTC.
1132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fortress is forming a Bitcoin fund on: January 02, 2014, 07:26:33 AM
Fortress is big news, if true, as they will be long-term buyers.

This is also huge. Kitco with a Bitcoin section..

http://www.kitco.com/finance/bitcoin/

Lots of PM stackers will be seeing Bitcoin mentioned when they check their metals prices.
1133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Congratulations CANADIANS, now your bitcoin is the most EXPENSIVE in the world. on: January 02, 2014, 07:13:20 AM
Are there more robocoin ATMs installed in Canada other than the one at Vancouver?

Not yet, but we're installing 4 more across Canada in the next two months, and we've just launched our new online exchange www.cointrader.net.

BTCGuild released 4 blocks in less than 5 minutes, very likely suggesting they are doing Selfish-mining.

This is BAD, BAD VERY BAD. No one is doing shit about mining corruption, currently expanding like a cancer.

I've been following the pools lately:

https://blockchain.info/pools

BTCGuild  28%
Today's evidence points to Corruption.

Ghash.io  24%
Proven corrupt. They sat at 33% just one week ago. These nasty cats are alert, and listening to people's disgust. On Dec 24 they switched off (I was watching the pools graph as it happened) 5% of their power which then instantly reappeared as Unknown. They either sold a part of are just masking it under another private pool. These last couple of days, another 4% chunk moved to (apparently) Eligius.

Unknown 19%
As stated above this secret lot grew by 5% a couple days back. I would assume even more of it is just Ghash's extra power, in hiding..

BROAD LARGE SCALE DISHONEST MINING CORRUPTION

Why are so few people saying anything about this and even less doing something (I know there isn't a clear thing to do tho..)??

How many of the early adopters are in on this? Is this why this is being kept on the low?

We are sitting right now at 52% corrupt network....

You're too smart to jump to conclusions like that. Please study more accurate stats first:

http://blockorigin.pfoe.be/blocklist.php

Kinlo's site checks each pool's websites where blocks are reported and shares paid out.
Blockchain.info attributes unknown/unlabelled blocks to the notifying peer. Remember that there can be many hops between two nodes in the netwrok.

BTC Guild have a long track record of honesty.

I think he means 2014 will be the year when Dogecoin overtakes Bitcoin.

Why is the price of Bitcoin now 750 USD, rather than 0.75 USD or 75,000 USD?

Why would a business accept Bitcoin but not Litecoin, Dogecoin, or CitiBankCoin?

Would you store gold in a vault with a 10 foot thick steel door or a vault with a door made of plywood?

https://blockchain.info/stats

Look at the bottom stat on this page. I means something very significant.

Someone has to 51% one of these coins one day.

As soon as the Litecoin ASIC rolls out I expect several of the minor coins to get pillaged.
1136  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CoinMap - Map showing places where Bitcoin is accepted on: January 01, 2014, 05:05:05 AM
Coinmap has the BTC symbol for retailers which accept bitcoins.

How about using A for ATMs (Lamassu, Robocoin)?  Seems like the number of them will explode in 2014.

http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/230589

OpenStreetMap has tag amenity=atm for ATMs. So it should be enough just to mark ATM with this tag in addition to tag payment:bitcoin=yes ...

Sounds good, but looking at the Waves Coffee house their robocoin is just "node 2516023474" - which is pretty meaningless to most people.

1138  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-12-30 eBay Files Patent Application for Programmable Money on: January 01, 2014, 02:37:56 AM
These kind of patents show how genius bitcoin really is. Also shows eBay is unlikely to be adopting paypal but rather trying to compete with it.

Ebay owns PayPal. The question is whether it orders PayPal to integrate Bitcoin, or not.
