1582  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who the hell is Max Keiser? on: April 25, 2014, 11:59:46 PM
Although Max Keiser is quite a funny financial pundit, he often promotes horrible financial decisions. Promoting people to continue buying at the top of bubbles (silver a few years ago, and recently (late-2013) with bitcoin).

I wouldn't be surprised if he was actually selling most of his holdings when he is most vocally hyping.

yep i am highly suspicious of him being a pump and dumper.

he has admitted to past participation in pump and dumping schemes, he probably still conducts it. Maxcoin is certainly a good example of this. I always thought he was like a leprechaun. A little annoying geeky guy who is always shouting about his pot o' gold over the rainbow.

mostly he's just a "media personality" though. Bit of an alarmist twat too if you ask me.

I don't have time right now but you could try to find press info about any of these concluded cases being opened/first mentioned. Then you might get an idea of how long a case can take based on when it was first mentioned in the press and when the MSD made their ruling.

http://www.sos.mo.gov/securities/orders/

This one might be in the press somewhere:

http://www.sos.mo.gov/news.asp?ID=965

EDIT - BINGO!

Huntleigh’s failure to supervise McClellan and other deficient compliance procedures were discovered during a November 2009 for-cause, on-site audit of the firm led by the Securities Division’s Audit Unit.

and the ruling was made in Dec 2010. So a fairly complex case I would say, 18 people sold 'off the book' houses so 18 contracts to examine, and a company and individual to investigate. That took 12 months from discovery that there were irregularities to completion and ruling. That's very quick in my book. Our case is far simpler I would think. However the issues are not so serious I wouldn't think so we might not be as high a priority as a case like this.

thanks for that minerpart, I find this American legal system stuff incredibly confusing and only understand its working at the most rudimentary level, but your info makes sense and answers my question as adequately as I could hope for.

I agree ActM's accounts are fairly simple, plus I believe Ken is being fully cooperative and helpful with the authorities as I also do not believe him to be a crook. The timing of all this really couldn't be worse. ActM performance is blasting off and we're stuck in the regulatory waiting room! I just hope ActM can maintain its rate of progress and hold a good slice of the network long enough to see resolution and trading at last!

don't forget that the MSD may very likely demand all sorts of regulatory hoops to be jumped through when they finish their review which could open a whole new can of worms, both expense-wise and time-wise. Going by those articles you supplied and then adding extra months for compliance measures to go through I will bring your estimation from well under a year, up to just about one year, maybe March 1st 2015, but only because it is safer to over estimate than underestimate in this case.

EDIT- PLEASE BE WARNED - these are merely guesses made by unrelated parties. In no way, shape, or form should any of the dates listed above be confused with official schedules, timelines, or promises from either Activemining, any of its employees, legal representatives, or the MSD and any legal bodies within its jurisdiction!

caveat enough for ya?

Too bad Romania wont deal with him, like how they took care of Nicolae Ceaușescu.

hmmmmmmmm. Mircea Popescu,  Nicolae Ceaușescu. Similar sounding at least.

Have you called, Stuartuk?  I know people are pretty pissed off at Ken, enough to fill out web forms even, but actually picking up a telephone?  Ooohhh....

I'm not pissed off with Ken I think he is doing a great job. There are only about 5 people on the thread pissed off and I think every one of them has complained. If they haven't complained they don't want to incase it disrupts the company.

Why would you complain about a company that holds your investment? Self-defeating if you think the company is progressing. And it is:

HAVE YOU SEEN THE DATA CENTRE?!?!?

COOL!!!! Cool

 Grin Grin Grin

I'm plenty pissed off, but the last thing I want to do is get the authorities after Ken and freezing all the accounts. I'm pissed because we can't trade, and we can't trade because of this stupid complaint. I wish the assholes who went running to the MSD would think about this shit before they make such damaging moves (hear that VE?), but I'm afraid a few of them were just being malicious. (Mircea Popescu, anyone?)

It really is a beautiful world when you can operate on trust and good faith isn't it?
1586  Economy / Securities / Re: Cavirtex Private Shares on: April 25, 2014, 10:42:17 PM
True, because Canada is a tiny market. 34.88 million people as opposed to USA's 313.9 million. VoS is wisely concentrating their regulatory efforts in America, state by state, so consumers can deal with them through their bank easily and quickly. Cavirtex will accept foreign deposits only after VERY lengthy verification process followed by very long waits on deposits with prohibitively high fees. If VoS gains a foothold in the states, follows through, and does it right, they will become top dog.

of course VoS are unproven as to their reliability, and their being based in Quebec gives me pause to doubt. (highest amount of organized crime activity in Canada)
1587  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] Official Shareholder Discussion Thread [Moderated] on: April 25, 2014, 10:15:55 PM
Does anyone have any experience, or know of any similar situation; i.e. dealing with regulatory bodies similar to MSD?
I read through the threads here and get such disparate estimations as to how long the process takes (from "next week" to 5-6 years) that I believe none of us have a clue.
I imagine these things can be as long or short as the situation requires, but I don't believe Ken's situation is either as complicated or has been going on for long enough for the forensic accounting and whole picture of ActM situation not to be evident fairly quick to the MSD.
Of course the whole "how do we deal with this bitcoin thingamajiggy" and the fact that the MSD is most likely operating under a huge backlog (like every other judiciary body in the USA) could make estimates of "how long till resolution?" rather difficult, not to mention what must be done to comply when the verdict comes, but is anyone willing to give out a ball-park figure, even a rough estimate? Provided this guess is informed by some sort of actual experience or informed party and not just emotional outbursts from frustrated shareholders or trolls, it would make me more at ease than simply wondering and knowing nothing day after day.
An educated guess would be better than wild conjecture, and since the latter is beginning to spread like wildfire on these forums, something, anything, any clue would be amazing, for my blood pressure at least.
1588  Economy / Securities / Re: MPEx owner in danger of being extradited to US to face charges on: April 25, 2014, 09:53:42 PM
This extradition will permanently remove Mircea Popescu and his many troll accounts (Mpoe-PR anyone?) off these forums. That alone is fantastic news. That guy(?) is an annoying a-hole! Anyone who thinks different is either mentally ill or simply Mircea Popescu him/herself.
1589  Economy / Securities / Re: [Active Mining] The UNofficial Active Mining Discussion Thread [UNmoderated] on: April 25, 2014, 05:11:42 AM
I still feel like he's going to get a good percentage of the network, then lose it, all the while without any shares being able to trade. They might have some decent value for a few weeks, but all share holders are shit outta luck on that one.
If the shares were online right now, with the amazing increases in hashing hes bringing online they would already be substantially inflated in price. alas, I fear he will lose his capability to keep up with the network and difficulty. Watch him then spend all accumulated divs to try and catch up, only to crash miserably. Think ASICMiner in the summer of 2013, and ASICMiner (unlike ActM) is a competent, solid operation. ActM share "holders" may never see a satoshi.

dude inspires zero confidence.

I really hope I am wrong though. If he comes through I might apologize, more likely I'll just quietly cash out, go away forever, and never think of this headache again.
1590  Economy / Securities / Re: Cavirtex Private Shares on: April 25, 2014, 04:56:34 AM
I'm a Canadian and I have used CaVirtex for a while. As far as the Canadian market is concerned, they're a high volume exchange and more or less had a corner on the Canadian market because they got all their ducks in a row (KYC and working w/ major Canadian banks etc.) and they remain reliable (for a while they were the only game in town for Canadians), but Vault of Satoshi could very well unseat them as top dog now that VoS is moving forward in the USA state by state, plus VoS has transparent proof of solvency.
CaVirtex charges such exorbitant fees that I kinda wanted to invest at one point if even to reap back a little of those fees and high prices I've paid into them. They MUST be making money, but Vault of Satoshi could become the real mammoth here.
1591  Other / Off-topic / Re: do you enjoy eating sandwiches with potato chips in them? on: April 24, 2014, 11:50:59 PM
When I was younger I used to make a very special sandwich with liver pâté, pickles, swedish caviar, cheese, ham, cottage cheese, some marmalade, more cheese and maybe a few slices of banana on top of it… Hmm, now I got hungry. I maybe should do one again. It had a very special taste.

Holy lettuce Batman!

That's not a sandwich; it's a salad bar on rye!

My $.02.

Wink
sounds good to me! noms!

1592  Other / Off-topic / Re: Miracle Mushroom on: April 24, 2014, 11:35:21 PM
I have friends who are in the mycological society here in western canada and one of them took me to the guy who distributes spores and supplies for growing. at his house he had a walk in autoclave and several underground growing areas which he devoted entirely to these medicinal mushrooms. personally, I believe these mushrooms have zero actual medicinal use and are a form of faith healing, but millions of people would disagree and as a result that mushroom supplies guy is very very rich. he told me his market is almost entirely Asian.

and NO he does not deal in the magical variety of mushrooms.

EDIT- look up your local Mycological Society...possibly; Mycology Society... its for people interested in all aspects of mushrooms, growing, foraging, identifying. Mushroom nerds, all scientific and legit... Psilocybin was never mentioned once while I was there, but more than a few of the members certainly looked like they had been acquainted with it.  Wink

I find this very interesting. I would like more info and speculation on its overall impact on BTC future and valuation. Seems pretty major, if it gets off the ground, so to speak.
1594  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] - KENILWORTH - Real World Mining Opportunity with Bitcoins on: April 24, 2014, 02:04:08 AM
the place to take your complaints about this scam "company" is the Australian Securities and Investments Commision (ASIC coincidentally) their consumer protection and complaints page is https://www.moneysmart.gov.au/

I'm just reading it now and will post my complaints there from now on, I suggest you all do as well. no shares, no news, nothing from kenilworth, this has gone on far too long already.

they are acting very foolish considering their registration with ASIC comes up for review in 4 days.

should have addressed your shareholders guys!

Antisemitic BS will not be tolerated here.

This has nothing to do with him being jewish, stop the antisemitic propaganda.

exactly.
it has to do with him being a greasy cheeseburger-eating hippopotamus-looking fat blob.

with the increasing hashrate I would expect shares in ActM to increase in value too.

with the increase in btc/usd value i will expect more big players to bring hashes online, quickly dwarfing ActM's position in the network hashrate.

with increased privately funded big players competing I expect ActM to be unable to add hashrate fast enough to keep up and therefore share value of ActM will plummet. (see ASICMINER's history)

with ken's progress getting shares tradeable online so far I expect to see my shares sit in limbo through great profits and then back to a loss, for good, with none of us able to take advantage of the potential profits coming.

I guess when btc reaches 100 mil usd (good luck) the 0.0001 total value of my 10 000 shares will look like "profit" using ken's logic. I severely disagree with this last statement.

we're working on it" and "sometime next week" are no longer acceptable, ken. put those shares wherever you can and let the cards fall where they may ffs. you've held my funds (in the form of shares) out of reach for FAR FAR too long. GET. IT. TOGETHER.

EDIT- how long until our owed div BTC goes "missing" through some falling exchange or hack or whatever? seriously ken. action, now PLEASE!
