I've watched a few videos on youtube where Michael Saylor was a guest, each one about an hour long. He makes a lot of sense and explains in plain english what it means to him.

Considering he started learning it all just last year, in 2020, he's not bad at all. Dude is MIT graduate I think. Rocket Scientist or something.

it is encouraging to see how fast an open, smart mind can go down the bitcoin rabbit hole.
now compare that to those who should professionally be open minded in such a way that they could at least comprehend bitcoin and write about it to their readers: the journalists.

them failing miserably for almost a decade.  Tongue

Correction, he knew about bitcoin in 2013, but turned around in 2020 and is now our favorite CEO whale.

Yup. Here's a tweet he posted in Dec 19, 2013:

https://twitter.com/michael_saylor/status/413478389329428480

It's good that he finally saw sense, albeit 7 years later. Just imagine the profits he could have made, if he was smart enough to buy in 2013 (or 2014, or 2015, or...).

I remember that day week like it was yesterday.

If he had "bought the dip" then: ~$385/btc.  Instead he paid around 30X higher.

Funny how ones tune can change if you have some skin in the game hey?
it makes me wonder if he had done any research in 2013 before posting that tweet?
If he had done, surely he would have come to the same conclusion that he does today?
On the other hand, if he didnt do any research then why post about it if he didnt have all the facts?
Don't get me wrong, I think he is doing us all a great favour with his bitcoin evangelism.
Just curious as to what he was thinking in 2013?

Time to go up boys.

Double spend FUD dispelled by the Master: https://twitter.com/aantonop/status/1352258125932371968?s=21

I bet the MSM could publish complete nonsense articles with headlines like "The Bitcoin blockchain actually caught fire today, sending the price plunging" and there would be a FUD dump.

Also, how many double spends occur regularly on the dollar fiat blockchain? I bet a lot, lol.

It just goes to show how powerful information can be/is.
Control information and you control the world.
Education is the key.

Ah the old fake "double spend" news as well. Classic.

Someone must have wanted to take a large position.

I figure that we're only about 2-3 months out from a major bullish announcement. One of many coming this year.
Yeah I saw that too.
Looks like a Bitmex screwup for allowing a user to withdraw without block confirmation or only single block confirmation.

(...)
But insurance will never cover the value of all the assets. Custody with insurance is a scam

Not saying you're wrong or right. Just wondering why you state this as a fact.

Well if done like bank accounts it would have a limit of 250,000 usd value.

But you would get that. I would argue it is better than btc in a wallet. If they set it up like a bank setups up a cash account.

And the key here is they'll be paying interest to hodl our precious coins. It's a win-win.

What’s to stop banks from running fractional reserve practices on our Bitcoin and putting us back in the same shithole Bitcoin was designed to get us out of?

Anybody know this idiot Stefan Thomas really exists? https://www.businessinsider.de/wirtschaft/finanzen/bitcoin-vergessenes-passwort-kann-viele-millionen-euro-kosten-a/?amp

Telling in the article how great banks and governments are and why bitcoin is not that great. Because he lost his password to 7002 bitcoins. Sounds like a another fake story from fakestream media to me.

"You hear that Average Joe? You can easily lose the password to your fortune! Easily! Best to stay the fk away from Bitcoin and just use banks and fiat."

The fact that he made out like a bandit beyond his wildest dreams doesnt seem to factor in to their narrative.
it would seem that every news story needs to be taken with a large dose of salt.
Why cant we just say it the way it is instead of always pushing an agenda?

mempool is a little high at the moment at around 180MB or 134 blocks behind.
I am not planning on moving anything just yet though so not a problem.
Will try and consolidate all the dust inputs when it comes back down.
I guess it is to be expected considering all the recent action.
Not trying to FUD just an observation.

What’s up with mempool.space?
There doesn’t seem to be any incoming transactions?
Is it a glitch with the site?

edit: NVM it seems to be missing the last three blocks too.
FUBAR.

Well that was fun... Shut down my Synology NAS today to do some electrical work around the house. Powered it back on and was greeted with a flashing blue power light and not much else. Turns out the NAS itself has shat the bed and not the hard drives; common issue with the DS415+ apparently (not that that helps me much)

So now I've got to buy another NAS tomorrow and HOPE that my 24GB of data isn't all fucking gone when I plug the disks into the new NAS. If it is gone it isn't the end of the world (mostly TV shows and movies on it) but I've spent years collecting it all.

I know it's off topic but just had to rant. Told my wife and she wasn't too interested Cheesy Cheesy

On topic however... these last two days have been good consolidation I think. Things were getting a bit too heated, nice to catch our breaths a bit before the next leg up.

Hope everyone has a better day than I

You should be ok once you move the drives over to the new unit.
172  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 28, 2020, 05:31:24 PM

what kind of bull run is going to be expected when euphoria and "this time is different" are met at the beginning of a bull year?

 Cheesy

it is really funny how bitcoin price over the years seem to follow patterns closely while doing unexpected things all the time.

Do you think I could have actually snuffed the life out of the bull run with my premature "This time is different"?

Oh no.  I would hate to be responsible for that!

I don’t think so mate.
This bull is just warming up.
2021 is gonna be huge.
173  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 26, 2020, 04:27:51 PM
Wow! This price action is amazing and to think that most of 2021, if not all of it, is likely to be in an upward direction. Just wow!
We should be at page parity soon at this rate. Maybe even before year end??

@danheld
The US dollar has fallen to a 1/23,000th of a Bitcoin.
https://twitter.com/danheld/status/1341775757446696961?s=21

This is a great way to get the message across.
People in power always use Fear to try to control the masses.
What better way to instill fear into the hearts of the general public that their beloved FIAT is going down the sh*tter than expressing it in this way.
They will see how badly it is devaluing whilst simultaneously giving BTC more exposure.
Brilliant!

P.S we need a new poll.

ATHs falling like dominoes.
1 after the other
Gotta love a bull market.
Bring on 2021 its going to be insane!!
177  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 19, 2020, 08:08:55 PM
I hope mindrust is doing alright.

I hope so too. I remember panic-selling back in 2013 or 2014 I think, during a pretty savage dip, but fortunately I quickly saw the error of my ways and bought back in soon afterwards, but not before losing about 20% of my coins.

I was new to this back then, but I also think it's something that, if you go through it, it's a harsh but necessary teaching experience. I suspect the most resilient of hodlers may have gone through a similar process, and that is why several of us advised mindrust to buy back in as soon as possible. Unfortunately I don't think he followed this advice, so he became a no-coiner. It's sad, but if a few WOers can learn from his experience, more and stronger hodlers will be born.
True. Been there, done that.
Like you I immediately realised my mistake and bought back in losing a little in the drama.

I was a day out in the poll.
Happy ATH WO.

For European residents, I can vouch for Kraken. Been with them since 2015. No issues. Deposits and withdrawals have gone through (although withdrawals were for very small amounts—don't know what will happen if I request to withdraw a lot).

There was a time (around 2016-2017 IIRC) when their servers were slower than a CASIO calculator, which actually protected me from selling some corn by failing to execute a string of sell orders. My current stash would have been much smaller, had those orders gone through—thanks Kraken!

For Europeans,
The tentacles of Kraken,
Work kind of OK.

#1krakenhaiku

I agree. I have also been a customer since 2015. I have made monthly withdrawals since late 2016. Never had a problem.

Thanks for the reply. My Kraken withdrawals have been minimal—only a few times for a few hundred € each time. Everything went smoothly, no questions asked.

If it's not too much trouble for you, what are the approximate amounts of your monthly Kraken withdrawals? Hundreds? Thousands? Did you have any issues with your bank (i.e., being asked "where do these monthly deposits come from?" and having to explain about your crypto, etc.)?

I don't think answering the above poses any OPSEC issues, but if uncomfortable, please ignore this post. Thanks!
The amounts I have withdrawn monthly is between €1000-2000. No big sums, but they have never failed me. I've had some problems though, but it has never been problems on the Kraken side (like when when Revolut/TransferWise blocked transfers from/to Kraken).

Just to add that I have been happy with Kraken too.
I made a few medium sized withdrawals of around 30,000 euros (used to pay off mortgage) no questions asked and no problems either.
Would deffo recommend.
