.... but bitcoins aren't destroyed. You can recycle them.

I wonder how many coins are in actual circulation? I.e. There could be a large number sitting in wallets that are no longer accessible. People have forgotten passwords or lost their wallet identifiers etc.
So, although there will eventually only ever be 21mill in existence (unless there is a hf or similar), I wonder how many are in active circulation?
702  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: HashOcean reviews on: February 09, 2016, 06:00:14 AM
Seems like perfect timing too. Hash ocean failed to payout last night.
Looks like they are cutting and running.
Scammers.

Seriously? What does it make your constitution different from most countries?

Britain doesn't have a constitution. We rely on fair play and the knowledge that no one will complain no matter what's done to us.

The Special Relationship with the US is deeply pathetic to witness from the British end. It's like a desperately insecure boyfriend over analysing his uninterested woman's every move.
Got to say I have to agree with you on that note gentlemand.

Try this as a custom uBlock origin filter:

Code:
bitcointalk.org###quickModForm > .bordercolor > tbody .signature

This and generous use of the ignore button almost makes this forum readable Wink

There is a setting in your profile to disable the signatures:
Profile -> Look and Layout Preferences -> Don't show users' signatures.

Thanks for the tip.

Its a new weekend and as usual the price is going down.
But this time it is moving roughly. Is there any news that caused this movement?

It's probably caused by the Chinese dumping to pay for their New Year celebrations. There was a dump before Christmas, probably a result of people dumping to pay for Christmas. Everyone needs money to buy presents, alcohol, and food. I had to dump some of my stack to pay for Christmas.
Why would people do this?
I keep fiat to buy goods for Christmas and new year. Not much point buying BTC only to sell it to pay for hols?
When I buy BTC I HODL.
706  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 05, 2014, 04:50:16 PM
We must be pretty close to the price point in the Autumn of 2013 just before it started rocketing skyward.
I have accumulated a small amount of BTC (less than 50) since this time and am a die hard bag holder.
I have never been too worried about the price as I always saw this as a 5 year investment or more.
Still looking pretty scary at the moment!
707  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 29, 2014, 08:19:15 AM
I dont post here often and have been into BTC since around August 2013. During most of this time there has been a general decline in the $ worth of BTC (barring the meteoric rise pre Dec!). This has not put me off investing what I can, when I can as I still believe in the technology and the promise that it's future holds.
Now I might have missed a few opportunities to make money during this time through shorting but it all seems a tad irrelevant really since the long term potential is huge should the market finally turn around.
Besides, I am cr@p at trading and would probably get burnt badly.
So I am a long term HODLer and I have faith that as long as I hold I will be fine.
Good things come to those who wait.
708  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [Cryptostocks] Scrypts Mining - legit or just a SCAMM? on: August 04, 2014, 10:47:22 AM
Looks like we were scammed.
At least I have managed to offload 30 shares at a price point close to what I paid. Still got another 90 shares though that look like they are headed down the toilet.
The owner seems to have played his hand quite well with giving out regular divs at the beginning then promising good future divs while he/they supposedly bought some Titans.
If that went well then they have around 8.5Ghs which they are quietly churning away with making themselves a fistful of BTC.
Never again will I invest in any project listed on CS.
This sort of behaviour doesnt do Bitcoin's reputation any good whatsoever as people will be less willing to invest due to its turbulent past linking it to other criminal activities.
709  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [Cryptostocks] Scrypts Mining - legit or just a SCAMM? on: August 03, 2014, 11:54:06 AM
Hm 2 days late for their dividend as explained on their website

Where exactly are they explaining this?
Had a quick look and couldn't see anything explaining what is going on.
Got a link?

Don't know if this has been posted already but thought the thread could do with a positive boost (albeit a small one)

The RNLI is the first major charity in the UK or Ireland to accept Bitcoin. We want to lead the way in accepting and benefiting from all forms of digital currency, so we’re running a pilot scheme allowing you to donate in this way through a secure online system. We’ve chosen Bitcoin as it is an established and widely recognised digital currency.

Another day down and still no promised dividend. Interestingly they still seem to be selling shares!
Also been scammed by another "company" (COIN) which was just suddenly delisted with promises of buying back everyone's shares. Guess what? That never happened.
I am done making any further investments in any supposed company listed on CS.
Shame really, concept is sound but there is no recourse when the admins decide to just walk away with everyone's hard earned.
712  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 15, 2014, 07:46:33 AM
I wonder what the price per BTC would be today if the Chinese gov't never laid down the hammer with all the regulation

Peeps have trouble speculating accurately on the actual BTC price on a daily basis with all the charts in the world. What hope has anyone got on speculating on what might have happened???
Pick a number!

I am offering 5000BTC at a 10% discount for sale via Paypal. PM me if interested, otherwise i will dump them in Bitstamp with a market order in 12 hours.

Escrow with JorgeStolfi at 0.5% okay?

Does JorgeStolfi even have a BTC wallet?Huh
Anyway, best of luck with the deal. Let us know if its successful. Seems dodgy to me though.

I messed up big time. I sent this address 800 bitcoin:

https://blockchain.info/address/113MmkyjjH6zS9VMvbwrhBNoMe6upzdvNC
I had previously sent this address 300 bitcoin a year ago, and for the life of me I cannot remember what that was!
Any and all help appreciated.

another lost 800 bitcoins lost beside the 850K that we thought mtgox had.... well I don't know why BTC shouldn't be worth $5K already.

Ouch, that's painful to read.

What would happen if, over time, Bitcoin was adopted on a wide enough scale that these sort of errors happen relatively frequently where people accidentally kept sending BTC to long lost addresses?
The remaining supply would dwindle and since you can never have any more than 21 million created wouldn't we get to a point where so few existed that it would make trading non viable?

It seems boredum is ruling current sentiment, perhaps this might help, enjoy the show.

Joe Rogan Experience #490 - Andreas Antonopoulos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnhGlgCm4MU

Thanks for this.
After staring at these forums for months on end and watching the overall price of BTC fall during that time it was really great to see someone speak in such a way as to fill me with complete confidence that the future of Bitcoin is looking bright.
HOLDING till the end.
719  Economy / Reputation / Re: Machasm reputation thread on: March 31, 2014, 08:12:28 PM
Rented "litecoin1" rig for 12 hours. Was steady on 3 pools I used during that time & very stable the entire duration of the rental. Disappointed no renewal discount offered or would have consider renting longer but might rent again if need arises & rig is available.
Thx

Thank you for your custom.

Sorry guys,
I had to cut my losses at some point and 12 Sats was my cut off point.
I really wish Mint well but I am afraid that I just couldn't watch it fall any further. If it looks like this coin will ever pick back up then I will undoubtedly get back on board.
For now though best of luck to all that have stronger hands than me.

Is this you ?
