Sorry guys,
I had to cut my losses at some point and 12 Sats was my cut off point.
I really wish Mint well but I am afraid that I just couldn't watch it fall any further. If it looks like this coin will ever pick back up then I will undoubtedly get back on board.
For now though best of luck to all that have stronger hands than me.

I have pointed my 8.2Mh/s at the multipool but i really dont like seeing the price of this coin continually dropping. With around 11 mil of them was hoping to get a good return at some point?

Sally's flashing her 10k ask at BFX again.

Looks to me like she's only showing her stuff when the market is trending downwards and she always seems to pull out the moment someone touches her stuff.

So it appears she's accumulating. Sure makes you wonder what her position goal is, does she want ALL the bitcoins?

Who's Sally?
725  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Official R9 Graphics Card Voltage Locked/Unlocked list on: March 07, 2014, 05:38:45 PM
The MSI TF Gaming 280x cards CANNOT be modifed at this point in time (very limited voltage modding allowed as described below).
Although it would appear that using VBE7 and atiflash looks like it changes the voltage (shows in GPU-Z and in cgminer as new lower voltage), If measured on the card you will find no change.
This is true for card versions 3SB and above (2SB cards can be modified in this way).
The only voltage that does work is 0.943 V (Dont ask me why?).
The only drawback with this voltage is that you wont be able to hash anywhere near 700K you might get 650K at best.
So until MSI release an editable BIOS (if ever) or another tool is created that can edit it we are stuffed!
I have 3 X 3SB cards and 1 X 2SB card.
You may want to update the OP to reflect that these cards are not unlocked.

Just read some of Nick Szabo's writings in his blog.  One thing I can see is that he is brilliant in many different areas.  His paper on Bit Gold is truly fascinating. http://unenumerated.blogspot.com/2005/12/bit-gold.html

I think it would be in all of our best interest to just let "Satoshi" remain anonymous though.  If for whatever reason he values his anonymity more than the "bit gold" he created, we need to give him that at least out of respect.  Of course I am curious who this person is.  It is human nature to be that way, but I think the entire Dorian Nakamoto media frenzy should further cement the real Satoshi's desire to stay out of the limelight.  It just isn't worth a free sushi lunch. Wink

Fascinating article. Seems he was thinking of Bitcoin around the time it was invented! Could this be SN??? :-)

I am quite new to this game and have begun mining alts late Oct 13.
These are some of the points I have found frustrating when dealing with bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies.

1). The exchanges appear to be unregulated and trusting them can lead to a load of heartache (Read MtGox here).
2). Time taken to send bitcoins to these exchanges (with confirmations) can be rather lengthy and this may lead to missing any good buy/sell windows.

With these 2 issues in mind, can anyone see a way round them so that you can leave coins on exchanges safely? Or at least speed up the transaction?
I would prefer to be able to leave coins and fiat on trusted exchanges so that I can set up buy and sell orders but I am absolutely paranoid about doing so since this MtGox debacle.
It would seem to me that until people feel safe trusting their money (be it coins or fiat) to these exchanges then this must be really stifling the growth of cryptocurrencies.
Mac.

Just minted my first batch of coins. Sweet!
I noticed my second batch came through 3 hours later.
Anyone know how often the minting happens?
When I was mining in the early days the payments were coming through every half hour or so. How often does the minting happen?
Cheers.

so, I have a lot of friends who own businesses that I could approach to accept Mintcoin (or any coin for that matter),  What's my argument to make it worth their while?  What do I say to:

1.  There's too much volatility.  The price drops, I lose money. (My answer: The price could go up. But not everyone wants the risk.  I've never understood this about merchants that take Bitcoin either.)  Any better arguments?

2.  Who is going to use that?

3.  Why, when I can just take cash or credit?

4.  What about hacking and theft?

5.  What if I lose a hdd and lose my wallet?  I can't back it up every time I have a transaction.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here, but I think these are just some of the concerns to be addressed if we want widespread adoption.

Please, only educated responses.

Not sure about most of these but for number #5 you could use RAID mirrored as well as a good backup strategy.
Then if a drive goes down you still have a mirrored copy from which you can restore.
Do not rely on this only though and do regular backups.
Furthermore, even if the had were to crash, so long as you have a copy of the wallet you will still be able to rebuild all your transactions.

is there a guide how to setup mintcoin cgminer? I don't get it there's no config file? I have a 4.0.0 version

I'm not new to mining.

You need version 3.7.2. Scrypt isn't supported in later versions.
http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/

which one is the correct one then?

http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/3.7/

as he said, you need cgminer 3.7.2 Smiley

I'd like to suggest some calming music during these crazy Bitcoin times:

Elvis Costello - I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down

Tom Petty - Freefalling

Tom Waits - Down Down Down

and when it gets really bad:
the doors - this is the end

Yazoo - The only way is up!

Hi guys,
I am new to this game and have read what must be the last 100 pages of this thread and most of it has sailed right over my head. I like to think that I have some modicum of intelligence but can't for the life of me figure out what has been going on?
What I can say from my point of view as a relative newcomer to this (started mining alt-coins mid Nov and traded to BTC around 3 weeks ago) is that all this uncertainty in the bitcoin protocol can't be a good thing for its future.
It feels like the Wild West with a lot of volatility and people getting shafted left, right and center with a few people doing very well.
Now I know that the concept is great being decentralised and allowing the market to ebb and flow completely freely ( or not in the mtgox scenario) but it would seem that there may need to be some form of regulation to protect investors lest they are all scared shitless!
I have been re-investing my fiat into more mining gear and have a modest 5 BTC which I have been holding on to in the belief that in the future I will recoup my costs at least and might even make a small profit.
I have to say though that my resolve has been severely shaken.
Here's hoping things will improve in the future.
