OT: In what fucking universe does it make sense that the NASDAQ is up (not down) +25% from its start of the year, during the worst economic crash since the Great Depression?

Seriously??

The NASDAQ didn't just beat some inflation number for the year. UP 25 fucking percent, folks. And it's up +50% from Nov 2019.

Incredible. Average Joe zombies are asleep or flat out ignoring reality.

It makes sense, USD printed in 2020 is about the same percentage (I found 21% and 26% quoted in media but I don't know how really and I am too lazy to count the current circulation), so I read it as NASDAQ having the same value as at the start of 2020, only USD devalued by ~25%.
(^ quite naive attempt at science and maths stuff but still..)

It's not the assets that gained mostly, it's the fiat that lost. In a traiding pair there are always two variables and I am trying to make the point that the USD part goes down, not the other half up.

What worries me is that we should adjust Bitcoin ATH to the same percentage.
19,995 US$ in fall 2017 is not the same as 19,995 now. We should count (reported) 22% more = 24,393 US$ before we scream CCMF next time.

It will all be irrelavent when bitcoin is at 100K and over.
Symantecs.

Cue Proudhon.
On second thoughts, it might be too early for him/her.
He/she is normally a great contrarian indicator.
184  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 24, 2020, 01:17:37 PM
fuck this left and right bullshit. are we rich? ccmf? Carolina gentlemen?
Yeah got to agree,
We are on the cusp of breaking the ATH!
Where are all the rocket gifs?
Where are all the comfy memes?
I’m biting my nails to the quick watching the price.
About to crack open a bottle of champers to celebrate.
Expecting a little more excitement from my WO brethren.
185  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 22, 2020, 08:50:27 PM
When the price starting taking a down turn when I woke this morning I was expecting a retrace quite a long way down to perhaps around 15k or so.
This just goes to show the strength of the bulls this time as we are bought back up to almost where we started before the dump.
Let’s see this rally shift into the next gear this coming week.
Shaping up for a fantastic Christmas. Helps to make me smile through what has otherwise been a pretty lousy 2020.
Cheers to my fellow holders.

Today was a good day Smiley

Rick is officially planning his exit/retirement tonight Smiley
Congrats to you and Rick.
My wife and I have already started our retirement plans which kick in next year regardless of what bitcoin does.
Just need to start thinking about what to do with our time.

There you go Bob.
Didnt take long did it?
188  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 12, 2020, 06:10:17 PM
Fuck.

Shit.

Just... fuck.

EDIT: I'm always an awful ball of anxiety-ridden energy whenever I have orders in play, and that dip below $16k USD/BTC just kicked me in the nuts. Defenses are lower than normal today.

Also, may or may not have micro-dosed again, but a little higher this time...

Don't worry Bob,
You will probably only have to wait another hour.

Hey I'd like to start mining ETH just for fun. What are the specs of the GPU rig you could suggest? Nothing fancy just a budget GPU. Any hints?

As Ivomm said the new Rex 6xxx cards are due to be released on the 18th Nov and I am sure that they are going to be great performers.
That said, it is likely that the current crop of cards will be flooding eBay with bargains galore.
The 5700 xt will yield around 57 to 58 Mhs.
So a 6 gpu rig will get you around 340 Mhs or so.
If you donm't ind spending a fair wedge of money then wait for the 6xxx series but if you want a cheaper rig then you can't go wrong with the 5700 or 5700 xt.
I have a 6 GPU rig with 6 powercolor red dragons and it makes me around 0.1 Eth every 4.5 days.

ah the whales and their following newbs.
Bouncing the price around.
Don't they know that it is all fruitless. King Corn reigns supreme and will eventually eat them all.
Maybe they just like splashing around in the baby pool?

Bitcoin is eating the world...

It has become a supermassive black hole that is sucking in everything around it and destroying it. This narrative is only going to grow over the next 18 months.

You see, gold is breaking down versus bitcoin...and gold investors will flip to BTC

Nothing is gonna stop this train straight to Carolina.

Not your keys Not your coins.
Personally I dont know why people are selling?
Just take your BTC off the exchange.
Or do most people using Bitmex dont have personal wallets?
What gives?
196  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 21, 2020, 12:50:41 PM
Maybe it's not as bad as it looks?
Is there enough liquidity on these exchanges to soak up relatively medium sized dumps?
(I probably don't know what I am talking about here so please let me know if I am screwing up, just thinking out loud really).
So the question is even though there may be demand how many bitcoins need to be dumped to move the market by $500 or so?
Maybe now with the value of Bitcoin being what it is, we don't need too many dumped before we feel an impact?
So even a small to medium dump will result in quite a significant fall in price?
This leads to the next question.
Will there ever come a point that dumping 1000 BTC onto the open market doesn't have a significant impact on,price?
197  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 21, 2020, 11:41:09 AM
This correlation with legacy markets is god damn annoying. I don't even need to check the Bitcoin price any more, just check nasdaq, s&p, gold.

When is supply finally going to be overrun so that we can decouple from this bullshit.

Yeah I feel you brother.
What worries me is that if investors are getting into bitcoin (which seems to be the case with recent news such as Tudor Jones et al), why are they doing so?
Is it as a hedge against the current financial system or are they just seeing it as another plaything designed to trade against to build up even more $.
The way bitcoin seems to be correlating with the stock markets recently makes me believe that it is the latter.
If they believe that bitcoin is the Ark against the impending flood caused by the financial crash then I believe that the correlation to the stock market should be inversely proportional.

Maybe they just need time to wake up to that fact?

The root problem with conventional currency is all the trust that’s required to make it work. The central bank must be trusted not to debase the currency, but the history of fiat currencies is full of breaches of that trust. Banks must be trusted to hold our money and transfer it electronically, but they lend it out in waves of credit bubbles with barely a fraction in reserve. We have to trust them with our privacy, trust them not to let identity thieves drain our accounts.

If people would understand this very simple mechanism I am sure there will be a massive FOMO.

The confirmed science and math that Satoshi didn't understand has to do with how poorly this system functions as a currency. We tried it for a few years. It doesn't work. It's only a bad speculative vehicle, which now people realize and have been dumping for 4 years. The project failed. Neat idea, but fractional reserve banking is clearly better based on all proven and confirmed science and math. I'm glad Satoshi tried this out, but now we know it doesn't work and we can go back to the way things are proven to work best.

I am afraid there are not nearly enough people here realizing the magnitude of this current round of Proudhon posting.  I mean... if you just look at his history of calling tops and bottoms... it's pretty much confirmed.  By science. And all of the sources.  And you all think I am joking.  But I am actually dead serious.  Confirmed.

You guys do know what this means is about to happen, right?

The best contra indicator out there.
Keep posting Proudhon even if you are on my ignore list.

Sometimes you haiku.
Other times your ass gets haiku'ed.
Regardless, I hodl.

A girl like that is affordable for everyone in this forum.

It is just a matter of length of time that differs.

Well at least it won't cost me more than a couple of sats!

Gotta say I thought that 10k was well and truly behind us when we were sitting at over 12K, with the halving In our rear view mirror and all the bullish sentiment only just a month ago.
I know we are all good here on WO but man this is a real gut punch.
I guess the honey badger didn't get the memo that we are (soon to be were if this goes on much longer) in a bull market.
