1661  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: So how on earth am I supposed to get bitcoins in the UK? on: October 03, 2012, 12:32:08 AM
...

Mercabit tried to charge me something like £12.50 per bitcoin. No thanks... it was £8 or something last time which was reasonable :s

Pease pm me your email to check it out, and apologize if that's true.

i miss my lynx browser
Me too, in fact I'm going to install it now, for old time's sake. Hell I'm going to get ircii as well just for giggles.

WOW! Lynx is actually still fully working, and installed without any trouble on a mac with xcode and macports. Thanks for the reminder, I will be using this a lot, it's lightning fast and better than adblocker for getting rid of annoying crap Smiley

If I'm not mistaken there are even still fully functional gopher servers around.

And some add-ons to go with the servers http://gopher.floodgap.com/overbite/

You must have missed the sarcasm and virtual eye roll.

Good one, next time use a smiley  Smiley
1664  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Confession's of a Bitcoin Botnet coder... on: October 02, 2012, 02:22:42 PM
This isn't unexpected. Hey look, computers can print money (kind of) if only there were a way to take over LOTS of computers. Hummm. Oh yeah, a botnet. Geniuses that put that one together. It would be nice to see some diligence from the pools to find and arrest people that are breaking the law.

You're new to the internet, aincha?

1667  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [CoinURL] All ways to monetize your content! on: October 01, 2012, 01:48:56 PM
Hi there giantdragon, you have a great service and we will start using it on Rugatu more than before  Smiley

We just installed the banner and some users complain getting this error message in it's place:

Code:
Warning: mysqli::mysqli() [mysqli.mysqli]: (42000/1226): User 'bitlatsl_coinurl' has exceeded the 'max_user_connections' resource

Do you know what could be the cause?
Glad to see you have chosen CoinURL as advertising network for the Rugatu.

This error (exceeding limit of the maximum simultaneous connections to the MySQL database) happen if web hosting's server is just overloaded or experiencing performance drop due to some problem. Usually it happens during very short time interval, so you have no reason to worry. If it persists for longer time, notify me and I will call hosting's tech support.

I understand, thank you for the fast response  Cheesy

1669  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: blockchain.info Android wallet security on: September 30, 2012, 08:45:19 PM
I'm playing with a blockchain.info wallet. Their web security seems really great, and I use Google Authenticator as a second factor. I've installed their Android wallet on my phone and paired it to my wallet. This seems to bypass all security. It never asks for my password, and never asks for my second factor. It just opens my wallet. I don't know if it would allow me to transact, but it seems so.

This is no good. Phones are stolen and lost all the time. Is there some setting I'm overlooking, or is this a gaping deficiency in their Android app?

Nope, you're not overlooking anything, it just works that way. I recommend you password protect the wallet application if you have the ability to do it.

Tried two different pools. I'm currently connected to slush. Instead of 50 Ghash, I'm getting 21 MHash.  Tongue

That is way more accurate  Smiley

Ukash imposed restrictions on German vouchers so they can't be converted to other currencies or redeemed in other European countries, like Spain from where I do business. Here is the ukash announcement link that I have, thanks to one of my customers

I need a Bitcoin Mod for SMF forums that can give every member the ability to tip posts with a single click, or two for confirm. The most funcional examples are on ogrr.com and here on Rugatu.

It has to be able to maintain a user wallet in the DB, that can be credited from an admin interface.
An advanced version that can speak with a bitcoin daemon on the RPC port would be nice, but we have to start from somewhere.
1675  Other / Off-topic / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Foundation on: September 30, 2012, 01:58:50 AM
The rule that a block may not contain more than 20,000 signature operations. Satoshi was concerned that if this rule change was publicly known, someone would try to make some really expensive blocks before the new rule was scheduled to take effect. However, nowadays a rule change such as this would be very controversial, and this particular rule might cause problems in the future because the limit is quite low.

Interesting, I didn't know that, thanks theymos

Is nice to know we have all the bases covered, because everything unlimited in this world gets abused with enough time.
1676  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello! Hola! Guten Tag! on: September 30, 2012, 01:26:40 AM
Here it is:

FTFY, was not loading.

From that image only, I can tell you're mining solo on the bitcoin rpc port with network difficulty 1. So you probably have to wait a bit more and synch the blockchain first. The value is obviously an error from guiminer Smiley

If you guys were all members of the foundation...we could all vote and make this change  Grin

What personal info do I need to provide to make that happen?

The Andresen Foundation for Bitcoin Development

I kinda like this one, lol seriously!

Yeah me too.

Nice one
1679  Other / Off-topic / Maximum signature operations per block hard rule on: September 29, 2012, 11:11:58 PM
Well, I sincerely doubt an absolute leadership role, Linus Torvalds-style was intended. Not even Satoshi made himself appear that way.

Satoshi had absolute control over the bitcoin.org client, and he discouraged people from creating alternative clients. He tended to view the Bitcoin network as being equivalent to the Bitcoin software which he controlled. He once asked me to refrain from posting publicly about him changing a hard network rule. I have little doubt that he would have handled the P2SH issue by just quietly adding the code to the client, not waiting for miners to "agree" as Gavin did.

Not that any of this is necessarily bad, but it seems you remember Satoshi as being different than he actually was.

What hard rule was that? If I may ask

I mouse over guiminer icon and it says 51.046 GHash/s. Open guiminer and it says same at bottom of window.
