Every dip is getting eaten at the moment, this feels like a really strong base for a run at a new ATH within the next 6-8 weeks.

I’m a lot happier with the way things are going at the moment. We’ve all been involved in bitcoin for a long time now but it doesn’t make times like May 2021 any easier. I was a panicking little bitch for long periods back then. It really does feel like we’re getting ready for new highs soon now.

I can feel the engines starting up, the train is getting ready to leave the station once again.

I have spirals in my eyes... but I think we are about to watch the big one.
1702  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 11, 2021, 08:24:23 PM
I tend to prefer logarithmic when dealing  with crypto currencies. I watch XMR / BTC which has been very bearish, but has found support at 0.004, the old 2015 - 2016 double top. A breakout from the cup and handle on XMR / USD which is also confirmed on XMR / BTC could see XMR reach 5000 USD, especially if there is a breakout on XMR / BTC over 0.036 BTC

Agree.  I think the log view is correct for several reasons.  First of all that will be an economic signature for all crypto in the history books.  Also moves in XMR are always magnified because it is locked to BTC.

With BTC @ 250k, we don't even need XMR to 2x twice against BTC.  0.02 will be enough to get us to 5k.

A 20x in USD is a big gain in ANY alt.  Especially class of 2014 level alts.  But we all know why Monero is not exactly "any" alt.
1703  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 10, 2021, 08:56:30 PM
Things really are lining up for YET ANOTHER beautiful cup and handle in Monero... recently this has been a reliable predictor.

Considering the depth of the cup...  We are due for a rise to somewhere between 100-5000 depending on if you resolve it measured in linear or log scale.  The handle resolves before January at the latest I think, and perhaps sooner.  If the current Bitcoin bull continues to chug along this can happen with BTCXMR basically holding still.  But if that gains while bitcoin does it good be quite magnificent.

Wait... I know this is not the speculation thread.. but Primer and Gembitz posting at virtually the same time?  That has to have some sort of price implications donchathink?

It's not a "DeFi hack", it's a buggy smart contract that was built on a buggy platform with a buggy programming language.

What they're doing is good lawyering: finding loopholes in a contract and using it to their clients' advantage.

Basically the same reason ETC is the original ETH.

So who thinks this centralized shitcoin will Fork the funds again and prove to the world its not immutable once again?

LOSE/LOSE

*That* is exactly what you get with ETH.

You can do 300,000 stupid things on the ETH blockchain.  Once a half dozen or so, of those things emerge as useful those ideas will be ported over to something built to handle it on a LAYER on Bitcoin safely isolated from the main chain.

The future is obvious.  And I am tired of waiting for the idiots to be dragged into it. Wink

Additionally, the team promised to “take legal actions” and asked the hackers to return the stolen funds.

This is without a doubt the best part of the article, it will surely work - and when they already contact the hackers, let them ask them to return the 600k BTC they took from Mt.Gox so that we can solve that issue once and for all Cheesy

BITCOIN HOLDERS NOT AFFECTED.

When!!!  WHEN!?!??! Will all of the idiots FINALLY realize that just about EVERYTING ETH IS is just BAD DESIGN.  ETH and all it's clones.

This will NEVER stop happening as long as they present an attack surface of that magnitude.

It makes the entire "crypto space" look bad to people who don't know better which is evidently the great mass of the drooling hoards that think jamming all kinds of computation onto a blockchain is a good idea at all.

Good GOD.

Short the shit out of this false breakout dudes like a boss! Dont be sheep, sell like a man.

Disclosure: Sold BTC772 at $153.
That simple post stopped me in my tracks this morning. I had to spend a few minutes pondering over it. It's the same way those selling at >$40,000 will also look in a few years from now.

Do a mental take on it to get the impact of that reality in today's value.

As far as we know you are quoting a dead man.  He held a lot of bitcoin while he was alive, and probably lost more than many in this thread could imagine.  But he was mentally unstable, had a bit of an unhealthy relationship with substances, and ended up leaving behind a wife and kid.  He bought a haunted house in Estonia for a million USD and it burned down a while back.  Possible his "death" was a hoax.  Yeah, with him that's very possible.  But I don't think so...

Possibly the biggest lesson to learn from Risto is all the money in the world is truly worth nothing in the end.  The things we think it gains us?  They cannot be purchased.  Happiness cannot come from wealth.  Risto spent a lot of time trying to buy himself the admiration of others.  he surrounded himself with people who would worship him.  And in the end he lost everything, and in a spectacular and tragic way.

Popescu is another that fits a lot of these sorts of things, though I think he worshiped himself enough not to need many others...

There are some folks in this thread with plenty of money who live miserable lives, and some who have only a little, but have happiness.

And there are a few who have both wealth, AND happiness... but have you ever noticed how that seems to be the smallest group?  Interesting.  And worth thinking about considering where we are going.  Many of you who have a "little, and happiness" are not going to stay in that group for much longer.  Make sure you hang on to what matters and live life along the way.  No moment can ever be reclaimed.

In the end, if you were not happy before you were rich, it's unlikely you will be happy when you are (rich).
My two cents.

But what if you are unhappy because you aren't rich?

I believe it is impossible for that to be the only reason someone is unhappy.  If that is the only thing lacking for you?  Then... you're going to be happy.

What an insight you shared there. I just checked the user's profile. They were last active in March. That means their demise happened recently. What a loss.

The rumor is it was a car wreck.  Truly sad.  He made lots of enemies here because he was also a thief/scammer.  He started a crypto "game" that I think used monero, but then had it's own google sheets based "currency", and he basically exit scammed, supposedly went to jail (not sure if related) and most likely lost most of it...

I had several long private conversations with him.  he was a tortured soul.  At least some of the time.

I never knew, however, that he was a violin appraiser.  Lol.

So do you guys think bitcoin will fully collapse within a year, or it'll be 5+ years for this death to play out completely?
It's already dead. Died 10 years ago in the good old days. In the process of drawing its final breath.

It was secretly replaced in one night in 2011 with a coin that uses exactly the same code, algorithms and blockchain.

There you go with your big-blocker nonsense again!  Tongue Tongue

I thing the 5 year scenario seems more sensible.  But I also think there is a significant chance we see the mother of all "dumps" (could be a series of amazingly large "dumps") sometime in a year.  I think it is likely to do the thing that surprises the most people...

What do you think, sir?  You have been a consummate predictor so far.

I am backlogged here... But I gotta say I think it is EXTREMELY BULLISH that the entire US including several government folks are talking about "crypto" and how this bill is no good for it while bitcoin sails through resistance after resistance whilst just taking a quick breath to fill the options gap, and we here are deeply mired in COVID talk.

Quote this if you bought at 28k and knew that was the last time BTC was on sale.  Grin

Well I was able to get 30... I can't remember exactly where i got a little nip, but i do not think I hit 28.  I would have to go look.  Funny I don't remember... I *DID* indeed buy, but I don;t think I nailed the bottom. S'okay though...  close enough!

Currently started looking into Bisq.
Any exceptionally good or bad experiences to share, my WO brothers?

I would just warn, that unless you are buying Monero there you are significantly raising your tainted coin risk.

Worth to you what it is worth to you.

Thats funny 'cept, I am glad no one ever gave me LSD without me being aware.  That could be a very cruel thing to do.

24HR Trading volume and transaction count are both up about 50% since I looked this morning.  What news?  I mean, about time, but why today?

No se.  But the transaction volume is nuts. And the Fluffy news?? No press is bad press?  I really don't know.  But it is being used for sure.

The volume is following it's normal weekly pattern, but has rocketed up to 2x what it was for a couple months (!) and in the midst of all time volume highs.

On the other hand, I do agree with his overall view about bitcoin being a long term play.. and also his overall perception that bitcoin is going to go up forever, Laura.. but there might be some decently long periods of downity between some of the periods of UPpity.

Yes. Though I lean more towards an s-curve. I just think anyone that gives any weight to twitter is making a mistake.

Agree on both of these points.

It surprises me that the S-Curve idea seems to be a teeny minority position.  People are much more apt to believe it is going to keep following the 4 year S2F pattern.  And if they discount that they tend to think it will do the "just goes up" version.  Very few people seem to think that it will have a really big runup in the middle of all that.

It's slightly cynical, but these things tend to catch people off guard.  And I think the traders and the people who think just gently DCAing will miss a lot of the move just because it will be fast.  And lot's of folks will sell on the way up with the intention to buy the pop and never recover but a fraction what they sell.

The max pain theory really does support the idea that it moves up fast one big time.

But who knows?  I will be ready for any version, lol.

And yeah.  Twitter is a mess.

Shut up ChartBuddy, George Soros never said that; besides who said you had to take his opinion as fact. Nobody's holding a gun to your head, believe what you want to believe. It's a free country despite what statists like you have to say.

Is the one you call "ChartBuddy" here in the room with us now?

I think that in spite of the sideways of these days, today is a key day: "Bitcoin bulls control Friday's $1.7B monthly options expiry"

Let's hope that due to this we break through resistance above $41K, and we'll get to $50K pretty soon.

Good stuff... yes, we are holding up rather well as far as these things go.  There might just be some gas in the tank!

@McDude: ready the weekend pump truck!
