Fucking hell I need to get on Rick to write that AI project for me to automagically adjust fees based on activity.

Managing nodes that connect to you, and then start draining liquidity at default rates are becoming a minor annoyance; the script should be able to start cranking fees as it starts seeing more activity on the channels, but, well, this ranch isn't gonna build itself, and Rick becoming a bee-keeper and wildlife manager is becoming time-consuming, so...

RTL could use so much workn the UI front. Wish I could select a whole bunch of channels, and set the fee rates on 'em in one go, but, it's either Change All Fees to New Defaults, or hand-management of each channel.

I really can't stand it.

It's becoming a job and stress.

Oh, this might have been me.

I have opened 4 channels so far, but no-one has opened a channel to me yet, so I have no inbound liquidity. This made me play around with Loop Out.

I'm sorry if my actions are considered bad node etiquette, I'm still learning.

I tried to open a nice girthy channel to you but I think I did for a different node, lol.    OK.  I will open one to you as well, lol.  Incoming ~7.5 million sat channel.

Thank you so much! Yes, I can see the channel is open to me now.

Good deal.  I am also having to do a little maintainence on the node so it will be down to 20m or so.

75% of Canada approves of what the Trudeau administration is doing?  God, I hope not.

Most Canadians do not approve of invoking the Emergency Act. Most I've talked to think they went too far.

That's good to hear.  Because it is worse than going too far, in my opinion it is a horrifying precedent.

75% of Canadians think the idiot truckers should go home.

They made their point. Sure they had some public sympathy at the start when it was still a peaceful protest. After they disrupted a major city making thousands of people's lives miserable, then blocked international trade costing billions of dollars, support quickly dwindled.

Once you've gotten the message (or given it), hang up the phone.

This, however is a place you and I will disagree.  I do not think there is any evidence that they have been heard.  Trudeau has seemed to ignore them entirely.  Calling them fringe extremists, white supremacists, confederates (lol?) etc.  There has been no dialogue, so there is no reason for the protesters to believe they have been heard.

But ultimately I think it is even more than that.  I think ultimately they are standing for more than just repealing mandates.  They are there to stand against the tyrannical government that is exemplified by Trudeau's actions.  Declaring Martial Law (which is what the Emergency Act is) and planning to seize money without court orders, and shut down protesters forcibly.

So, since we disagree, I will not belabor my point as I have no desire to argue.  But here is the ultimate litmus test on whether my opinion is justified, or should be filed under the "shut up and go back to Texas" category.

I believe this is all part of an organized plan that transcends just Canada (or New Zealand).  We are seeing a coordinated effort to destroy western democracies and place most of the world under a "New World Order".  I know you are old enough (like me) to recognize that lingo.  Daddy Bush used to say it a LOT.  Well, it's the same plan.  But they are calling it different things now.  "The Great Reset" for example.  Or maybe you might recognize the marketing slogan (which is clearly on the way out):

Quote
The term "build back better" was first introduced to UN at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in July 2005 by former United States President Bill Clinton, the Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Tsunami Recovery. -from wikipedia somewhere...

They are restricting our movement, our money, our speech, and most of the other rights we Americans like to cite as "inalienable rights".

One last question before I bow and walk backwards out of the room...

How did they know we would have to "build back" from anything?

I totally get you.  And I think your fees strategy is one way towards a more healthy thing.  Another thing is realizing some channels are going to be vampires in one way or another... I have been pruning those channels and leaving the ones that mostly self balance... or choosing not to care.

Anyway.. I get the frustration.

Is Monero under some heavy attack or what?
One pool had over 50% of hashrate and this is very centralized and dangerous.
If you are mining monero switch to some other pool asap!

MineXMR hashrate drops from 50% to 38% after Monero community decentralization efforts

Yes! I saw that earlier today.  Kind of inspiring, really.  The community is stronger than so many other projects.

There are currently 11709 Monero public nodes.  That is effing amazing.  There are only 15k BTC ones (Of course both of these numbers do not tell the WHOLE story).
BTC :15k
XMR: 11.7k
BCH 1k
BSV 36 (lol)
LTC 1330
DOGE 1450
ZCASH 285

Monero is so much more important than most realize.

Mining 32 cores on p2pool...  good stuff.  Join it.  We need more hashrate!

Wasn't there a separate thread for all the COViD discussions.....

Seems to me a situation where governments are shutting down financial access to portions of their population and those people turning to Bitcoin to get around those sanctions is about as on topic for BTC speculation as one could get from a fundamental/macro point of view...  I certainly understand that these topics are (designed to be) divisive, but it's not off topic, I'd say.

... fucking little facist, totalitarianism always comes through the left

Wrong terminology.

Fascists are right wing. Trudeau is slightly left wing.

Call him a Commie if you want to sling mud.

Another excuse to accuse Bitcoin of "funding terrorists".

I think the west is waking up to the other edge of the 2 edged sword of labeling your enemy a terrorist.

My own country absolutely overreached in holding people prisoner without a trial regarding the 1/6 demonstrations (and idiotic actions too).  I think the people who trespassed at the capital should have been prosecuted.  But similarly the demonstration was primarily peaceful, and some of those who organized it came under ridiculous scrutiny.

I think of "Brandon Straka".  He was a democrat that started the "Walk Away" movement in the US, and his life was abslutely wrecked in the wake of the 1/6 events.

But a large number of us have awakened to the fact that after a summer of cities on fire, and many deaths in protests that were for different reasons seeing this framing for those who acted out on 1/6 is DEEPLY disturbing.

Particularly when you go past the surface and see that the summers protests were organized (palates of bricks showing up on street corners), and 1/6 was infiltrated by spooks.

What is happening in western democracies is EXTREMELY important, and as I said, I am proud that the good people of Canada are doing what their charter allows them.  I wish them God Speed.

"I am hoping that we see the police and military eventually defend the population gathered in the streets of Ontario rather than follow unrighteous commands from a leader who has clearly lost his countries heart."

that's delusional.  all parties asked the protestors to go home.  also, fuck em (says 3/4 of canada)
edit: nice little stash from protestors at one of the border crossings.  Restrictions are ending, time to end the economic blockade and reopen the car plants.  take credit if ya want

The protesters are protesting a single thing.  "Go Home" is not the answer they are looking for.   They are asking that vaccine mandates be dropped.  Framing them as something other than free Canadians who have a right under their own charter to protest is disingenuous.

And all the rhetoric about them being "White Supremacists, and Terrorists, and Confederates" (LOL!) is so transparent at this point it's hard to believe ANYONE is falling for it... but evidently some are?  And I think out of the tens of thousands of protesters find some guns might happen, but from all the live reports I have seen these protesters are peaceful.

75% of Canada approves of what the Trudeau administration is doing?  God, I hope not.

Another excuse to accuse Bitcoin of "funding terrorists".

I personally think "Fascist" is one of the very worst understood political labels thrown around.  And the new tech-socialism does indeed have some fascist sorts of aspects.

But I think Trudeau is an idealistic socialist and has fully fallen for an unsustainable narrative driven by groups like the WEF.

I also think his action in the last few weeks are a TERRIBLE mistake and I am hoping that we see the police and military eventually defend the population gathered in the streets of Ontario rather than follow unrighteous commands from a leader who has clearly lost his countries heart.

Then again, I am somewhat irritated when people from other countries wax judgemental on my homeland... so I will shut up about yours after only saying I am impressed by the fact that Canadians are standing up against the pressures of creeping tyranny much better than my own countrymen.
831  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 15, 2022, 02:34:03 AM
Well I didn't expect Trudeau and Canada to be one of the ignition sparks. It's almost as if everything we see happening, everywhere, all the time - is bullish for bitcoin. And people are beginning to see why.

#BitcoinFixesThat
It's just the coming attack from what used to be "western democracies" that leave the big glaring question mark.  We could be in for some rough waters...

Kanye sees part of it...

Well, the Coinbase ad was... different.

well my cat enjoyed it. he jumped up and ran to the tv and tried to catch it, prolly thought it was a new kind of cat game.

It pisses me off that this fucking shitty company has ended up with this much power over the narrative. You have to excuse me, but I am just a little drunk.  Brian Armstrong has optimized for one thing, and that is to make himself money.  Good for him.  There is nothing wrong with that on it's face.

BUT.

He did this in a way that has significantly delays Bitcoin's path to inevitability by supporting an endless amount of imposter projects, and he has chosen to act like these all have some "possible significance", when they, in fact, do not.

Thing is... someone at his organization, most likely him, understands that these projects are flawed at their core, but that immense amounts of money can be made shilling these blockchains without regard to their actual value.

So he has chosen his path.  And by doing so, because of his position, he has delayed the path of the primary project that matters.

It is hard for me to imagine a world in which  someone can achieve the level he has without understanding that they had sold their soul.

I guess that is just how it is.  One part of the price of a perfectly free market is the reality that it can be abused before people have become aware of it's dynamics.

While bitcoin is emerging at the absolute metric by which finance is measured, there are opportunities to take money from id idiots while the pickings are good.  And he has done exactly that by delaying the good future that is Bitcoin.  I think there is still time for him to finally come around to the light side...  But the clock is running out.

Brian, you will be rich, but in hell.  You will never need money.  Come over to the side that makes sense.

Poland wants to ban bitcoin, and wants the EU to do the same.
I only have a Swedish newspaper article, but I'm sure your google fu is good enough.

Does this FUD crap even matter anymore?

Russia said they were going to ban bitcoin, only to turn around 180 and move forward to make it a recognized currency. Wtf?

The news is all bullshit. All these countries are secretly buying and embracing it, regardless of what they "say" in the MSM.

The dominoes are falling behind the curtain.

We've been in a coordinated, global Bitcoin smear campaign for over a decade now.

The next phase they will move into, is how to get Joe Public to part with their precious bitcoin. Through merchant adoption.

"Savings and investment wealth for me, but not for thee, my debt slave." -TPTB

I keep going back and forth on what I assume the US is going to do.  Real wildcard out there right now, I think.

As we have Haiku Sunday and I am completely unfit to create such non-rhyming poetry, I deem it appropriate to post about Haiku OS which is basically the successor of BeOS and has a vivid history.
They released last week their third beta of the initial release and those of you that are interested in alternative operating systems might want to take a closer look. I reckon fans of MacOS in earlier times might find it appealing.

Quote from: What is Haiku OS?
Haiku is an open-source operating system that specifically targets personal computing. Inspired by the BeOS, Haiku is fast, simple to use, easy to learn and yet very powerful.

I gave it a whirl in qemu and on real hardware and I am thrilled by its clean and simple design and it's performance. A very refreshing experience and I will keep it on my watchlist.

A nice, sunny and funny Sunday to all of you, may the 45k be with us!

EDIT: screenshot added

Big fan of off the wall OSes.  Typing this on a custom Arch Linux installation I use for some audio production.  That one is not "off the wall" really, more in the mainstream linux category.

But I came up on the TRS80, then C64, and then the golden age of computing for me was an Amiga 4000.  The only computer I was able to sell after owning it for 4 years for more money than I paid for it. Wink

And actually in the category of OSes like BeOS, Haiku, and perhaps Next, AmigaOS is a fun one to get running as it sort of is of the same basic vintage, and shares a similar UI style.

I don't have direct contact with Elwar; I just follow him (covertly) on certain social media.  He has posted as recently as Feb 11th and I shared the video that he shared on other social media (also covertly and without credit).  I don't actually "know" anyone wrt the known knowns.  There is always the possiblity that unknown knowns are unknowingly known to me and on very rare occasions I test that theory by shouting, "BobLawblaw!", "JayJuanGee!" or "cAPSLOCK!" at total stangers and I keep my eyes peeled for the slightest hint of recognition on that persons face.  I will know the look because I swear I can see it occasionally on my mom and dad's faces when I drop off groceries or shovel their walk.

In short, I can't understand why he doesn't want to hang out with us.

I will answer if that ever happens within earshot.  There is nothing all that recognizably unique about my appearance other than general stunning beauty.

I have wondered how many WO folks (might) live close to me.  I only know of one, and I don;t think that person spends a lot of time in Dallas anymore, so I figure I am generally all alone.  Are there any other WO members in the general vicinity of the metroplex? (if you know, you know)

On this topic... I have shifted somewhat in my whole opsec strategy, and I do not know how wise that is.  I have grown quite tired of it in some regards, as well as understanding that my tracks over the last 11+ years are pretty clear. If someone wanted to figure out who I am there are several very easy ways to do it, sadly.

Why would anybody want to locate you? I'm sure everyone have heard about that unlucky boating accidents of yours...  Grin

Quite true!  I believe I may have been one of the very earliest of bad sailors. Having delved into Monero (2014), which evidently comes with a watery curse.

But in all seriousness my forum creation date might make me a target, I'd guess.  If I had it to do over again I would never post here. Though that would be sad!

Seriously, though, any asshole that targeted me would be EXTREMELY let down as similar to many early bitconners I can only say I never got nearly enough of it...  I just used it to play penny ante poker.  Also I do what I can to be a difficult mark, and I have quite a bit of ammo. Pew pew.

cant wait for fusion plants to come on line. go tokamak!

It will be very interesting to see how the delivery of fusion energy might change the whole energy/political landscape.
In theory, this should allow us to have access to very cheap, almost limitless electricity.
Reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and removing the stranglehold other countries have on us due to the abundance of natural fossil fuels within those countries.
Also what will happen to Bitcoin when energy becomes cheaper?
Will there be a need for US war machine to protect the petrodollar?
Perhaps the production costs of these new nuclear plants might be too prohibitive to build enough of them to change the reliance on fossil fuels?
Will there be the political will to change the status quo?

Electricity is only one input, production of many things will still be limited by available commodities. It will certainly be a massive game changer though. But fusion is still decades off at best and most likely closer to a century.

I have no knowledge about fusion myself and when my knowledge in a certain area is lacking, the discussions on hackernews are always pretty enlightening. Most there seem to think it is not really a breakthrough at all, more of just a benchmark being hit.

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30271677

https://thedebrief.org/chinese-fusion-reactor-sets-new-record-of-1056-seconds/

That is so awesome.  I really look forward to the effing pretent environmental socialists losing their biggest tool.

That said, human hubris may attend our undoing some day... how could it not?

Whee!
