What power supply should I get besides ATX for PC?
Pretty much everyone uses ATX psu or a spare connector from their computer to power these.  I power mine with the same ATX psu that one of my S3+ uses.

What happens if you cut the power wire in the USB cable? Would the reset then work without unplugging the USB?
Maybe, but probably not.  I think more than just USB power needs to be cut.  There's something with how the U3 is put together that it's power and usb circuitry overlap in a less than desirable way (sorry, I'm not a hardware tech, but one did explain it to me once) that lead to needing to plug/unplug to get the machine going again.

Hi guys,

I have 2 questions but i not find the response:

1 - Which are the best settings for Antminer S5 of expirytime-scantime-queue for solo-pool (ex. tbdice.org)?
2 - If difficulty is set to 1024 cgminer (v4.8.0) not show share (Accepted 00000080 Diff 0/1024 ) and best share it remains 0 ...this is not a problem for normal pool but for solo pool it's ok? (if i change diff work fine= Accepted 3e047efc Diff 1.06K/341 )

Thank you

ps: i use S5 with latest firmware (cgminer 4.8.0.)

Post to the S5 thread or to a thread that supports that cgminer fork.  It's been posted several times (and is in capital letters in the thread topic) that this thread is for the OFFICIAL release of cgminer.
1784  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer S3 support and OverClocking thread on: August 12, 2015, 06:17:33 PM
Since it's not an S3 it doesn't belong in this thread at all.  The person who posted it contributed nothing to the conversation.
1785  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: August 12, 2015, 06:16:40 PM
Also, I just noticed that one of the four sticks I had running at 275 (15.1GH) pulled a 208M share sometime in the last few days, which puts them, by highest share, well ahead of the S4+ that's been running since Saturday (46M).

I've got a few nanofury usb sticks and every now and then they'll pop a share that beats my S3+, but it's pretty rare.
1786  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for everywhere not already covered on: August 12, 2015, 06:13:13 PM
While it's probably not practical unless you have a single stick, you can get USB hubs that have a charging port with higher amperage.
When buying hubs like that, double-check (look for reviews, perhaps) that the higher power port actually passes through the data lines as well - some of them really are only for charging Smiley

My work desktop has a USB 2.0 port with a lightning bolt by it that provides 1.0 amps.  It's a cool feature, but I've never seen a hub to offer it.

Woot, my S4 finally solved one!!  Cheesy

Hahah, I thought it was you!! Congrats again, bud!

Thanks dude  Smiley I had it running solo for the last 2 months straight and just switched the address on it a few days ago.

Congrats on the solo solve!  Great vanity address, too.  Did you generate it or use a service?
1788  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer U3 Query on: August 11, 2015, 11:45:52 PM

You might want to consider one of sidehack's Compac USB miner's when they are available. Less hash than a U3 though.

Agree, 4 of their usb sticks would equal the hash of a U3 and draw much less power and actually be reliable.
1789  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S3 Setup [HD] on: August 11, 2015, 11:44:42 PM

Mikestang - going to change the IP address as it is currently set to what you suggested and hopefully that will work.

I have an old laptop I use for just this task - I change it's IP address to match the miner so I don't have to mess with my good network computers, then change the IP on the miner.  Once you do that and 'save and apply' you'll no longer have access to it on the laptop, but you should be able to bring it up on your regular computer.
1790  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer U3 Query on: August 11, 2015, 09:21:40 PM

if your power is under 9 cents usd   you stand a chance to make a profit
if your power is under 6 cents usd     you stand a better chance to make a profit

if your  power is 15 cents usd  or higher you will most certainly lose out.

That's assuming it works perfectly 24/7, which they don't.

Expect to struggle with getting it running.

Expect to burn up the factory psu.

Expect to restart in and unplug it, sometimes several times per day, just to keep it running.

Expect it to not work for random reasons.

Expect it to work just fine, then you go and tweak one setting or change a cable, then it won't work at all or only at 50% speed.

Save your money for anything but a U3, they are crap.  If someone gives you one it's worth playing with, but don't pay money for one and expect to see that money back, let alone a profit.
1791  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Integrated ASIC on smartphones or tablets on: August 11, 2015, 09:16:46 PM
ASIC chips on a smartphone or tablet is not going to happen, I think.

Besides the heat, I'd never do it because I want my battery to last more than an hour.  It dies fast enough as is it.  Add to that mining plus constant wifi use and kiss that battery goodbye.
1792  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto Comes Back To Clear Blocksize Debate... on: August 11, 2015, 09:15:35 PM
He wouldn't come out to solve a stupid little quibble like this, otherwise people would expect him to pop up and solve every problem that people couldn't reach consensus on right away.
1793  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: August 11, 2015, 08:55:43 PM
The included chinese power supply went up in smoke after 2 days use. It had a 06/2015 sticker on it, lol.

If you use the stock power supply and anything other than default frequecy/voltage they will melt down.  It's been well documented in this thread. Smiley
1794  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3+ Discussion and Support Thread on: August 11, 2015, 04:51:35 AM
Will do.  I just updated one S3 and left the other 'stock' with both mining on the Kano pool.  I'll let them run for a few days and check to see if there is any difference.   Smiley
Check out the load on each one, you can see that difference immediately.

The miner status page update alone is worth the software upgrade.

Nice job. Any plan to support extra-nonce command ?
It's been asked before, and the answer is no.  If Kano doesn't chime in with the details search the thread and it should pop up.

Vacation maybe?  It's that time of year if he's in the northern hemisphere.
1796  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: pictures of antminer S5+ ,7700G, review coming soon on: August 11, 2015, 04:46:13 AM
Hi all,
here some pictures of antminer S5+ , reviews will be coming soon from ITOP Corp

Needs more pci-e connectors...

So you tape 3 S5s together and call it a new machine?  Color me unimpressed.  Sidehack got much better efficiency out of these chips; Bitmain isn't even trying.
1797  Economy / Speculation / Re: What about this? on: August 10, 2015, 10:26:03 PM
They look similar, don't they?  Are we in "mean" phase (or the real normal) or are we in despair? Tell me what do you think please.

The look similar, but correlation does not equate to causation.

Whoever labeled "mean" on those graphs does not grasp basic mathematics, however.  The mean should be a vertical line:

This campaign pays every ~Monday.  If you're not getting the payment you expected check the post counts and it's probably because your posts lack quality to be counted for the campaign.

I have to say that I'm a little disappointed in the drop in price, we're back below $264 and dropping as I type.  I was hoping we could set the bar at $290 and hold it there for a while.

You think people in communist countries have any rights, let alone basic human rights?

How cute.
