181  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Stay off any missed opportunity on: March 14, 2024, 08:47:45 PM
For the short time I have been into this crypto industry, I have observed and experience many things, especially when trading the spot market, it's very important that you stay off any missed opportunity, ~

I get it.  You are new to crypto, and it shows.  When you first start out with crypto trading, the volatility can feel intimidating and  those huge price swings on the spot markets seem daunting if you dont understand them.  But the thing is - rather than fearing the waves, try riding them instead! Sure it is annoying to miss those early pumps.  But many coins keep climbing after an initial surge.  If you automatically jump ship just because the price went up, youre missing out on potential longer-term gains.

Now I am not saying you should blindly FOMO into every pump and get wrecked.  You gotta be smart about this.  Do your homework, learn to spot real trends versus temporary spikes, and dont be afraid to take a position even if the price has already moved.  There is a healthy middle ground between fearing every rally and FOMO.  Learn the difference and those intimidating spot price swings start looking a lot more attractive.
182  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I need help please, to get back into a Bitcoin account. on: March 14, 2024, 08:37:40 PM
The phrase "Bitcoin account" is kind of unclear.  Bitcoin doesnt actually use traditional accounts.  Instead, it relies on a public record called the blockchain.  Users hold their coins in digital wallets, which have cryptographic keys letting them access and use them and  so it would help if you explained more what you mean by a Bitcoin account.

He's pretty sure he has the pertinent info, and if he has it, we don't know how to use it to try.

Could you be a little more specific about that? What information does your customer have? You do not need to share the actual details publicly, but knowing what form they are in (username, password, recovery phrase, etc.) will help us determine the best way to recover his account.
183  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie Alert.!! on: March 13, 2024, 11:00:33 PM
Hey there, my name is Enogal, ~

Welcome to the community, Enogal! I noticed you found the Beginners & Help section already - nice start.  The best way to pick things up is to poke around different threads and see what folks are discussing and  reading through some of the chatter will teach you more of the basics than anything. This is a good place for newbies ready to put in the effort to grasp about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general.
184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 4 Years ago people laughed at me bcz of THIS on: March 13, 2024, 10:30:27 PM
In early days of Covid I wrote this: Everyone laughed at me  Btc was 3k$.

Dude, everyone is still laughing at you!

For the sake of argument, lets say your conspiracy theory is true. How much do you think those Bitcoin whales made from that? You best guess? You mentioned 1,000 BTC. At a price of $10,000, thats $10 million. Lets say its tens of thousands of BTC, thats hundreds of millions of dollars. Do you think thats enough?

Are you aware that several major pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer, BioNTech, and Moderna have raked in tens of billions of dollars from COVID-19 vaccines? Reports suggest a combined pre-tax profit of $34 billion in 2021 alone (source). Can you even grasp that amount of money?

So next time, if you want to have fun with far-fetched conspiracy theories, at least try to use what little brain you have and use some logic that actually makes sense.  Maybe then people wont laugh at you that much.  Cheesy

(BTC was never $3k in 2020, btw. Check your facts.)
185  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Identifying Rewarding Crypto Earning opportunities on: March 13, 2024, 09:41:05 PM
As a crypto investor, is it taboo to inquire about opportunities to earn free tokens? Some believe that airdrops will kickstart the 2024 bull market, and based on current trends, I can see why. For those who participate in these tasks, how do you identify the most lucrative and rewarding opportunities?

Why would free crypto tokens be a taboo or frowned upon? For investors, scoring something for nothing is like winning the lottery.  No doubt airdrops can whip up excitement, as you mentioned.  but there is a catch - they eat up time hunting them down. and  And not everyone has hours to burn chasing airdrops.
186  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hello, my friend has 200 solar panels, do they generate enough energy for mining on: March 13, 2024, 08:51:38 PM
So, basically, @philipma1957, your power factor means how many hours a day you could get the max wattage out of each panel, right?
I'm no expert but a 400W rated panel, usually cannot produce 400W every hour, in the best scenario.

No, power factor is not exactly about the number of hours you get max power from a panel. It is much more than that, and other parameters are also taken into account, such as the total number of sunny days in a year and things like that.  The power factor is based on the capacity utilization factor (C.U.F.). That is the ratio between the actual measurable power output from a solar plant over a year, divided by the maximum possible output in perfect conditions.

They calculate it like:

Capacity Utilization Factor(C.U.F) = (Actual energy from the plant(kwh)) / (Plant Capacity (kwp) x 24 x 365)

(Global capacity factors of solar generation)

Lets say your solar plant's location has a 0.2 capacity factor.  That means it will make about 20% of its max rated power capacity throughout the year.  From this, we can easily calculate that its power factor is 4.8, which we can use to estimate roughly how much power it will produce daily on average.
187  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hello, my friend has 200 solar panels, do they generate enough energy for mining on: March 11, 2024, 08:24:35 PM
I don't understand anything. It seems difficult

It is not that complicated.  Solar panels make electricity, Bitcoin miners use electricity.  More panels equal more mining capacity potentially, but 200 panels means zilch without specifics.  Panel efficiency, sunlight where you live, actual watts pumped out - the deets matter.
188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are there members here who do monthly investment in bitcoin ? on: March 10, 2024, 08:11:58 PM
~
This is funny because every bull market I see these people asking about the same thing and they always think that it's late and the price is too high. We had these people at 1k, 10k, 20k, and so on.
Once bitcoin hits $100k people will say that it's too late, and then it will hit 150k... You guys are never making a profit because you wait it out for months and then when it finally continues in a bull market for a year, you FOMO in and buy the top.

Hey there, OG! (you are practically ancient in Bitcoin years!  Wink)

You have a point!  It can definitely seem like the same folks keep missing the boat on Bitcoin.  Ive been there too! When I first learned about Bitcoin, it felt totally out of reach.  The price tag was just so dang high at that point and  felt like all the lucky dogs had already gotten filthy rich off it.

But the thing is - I think it is normal to feel unsure or cautious about this stuff.  I sure did! Took me a while to wrap my head around it and quit dragging my feet.  Reminds me of those five stages of grief -  denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally the eureka! moment.

So maybe it is not so much the same people repeating the same mistake over and over.  More so just new batches of curious cats stumbling onto Bitcoin and having similar hesitations before coming around.

I know I did!
189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Selling BTC for Alt Coins? on: March 10, 2024, 07:10:44 PM
I get that some folks think Bitcoin's glory days of insane growth are behind it.  And hey, no one really knows what will happen down the road.  But me? I try to play the long game.  If you are hoping to strike it rich, maybe slow and steady BTC gains beat a riskier altcoin lottery ticket.  Then again, trusting your gut aint wrong either and  just dont kick yourself later if you bail too soon and Bitcoin pulls a moonshot.  Ive been there and it sucks.  So weigh it out trust your instincts, and decide what risk level suits you.
190  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum - recover wallet on: March 10, 2024, 06:51:09 PM
Hi guys I have an old mnemonic phrase (2016) of an old version Electrum. How I can recover my wallet? Thanks

Hey there! I noticed some other folks already chimed in with helpful suggestions about importing your wallet to the newest Electrum version.  Have you tried that yet? Did any issues pop up to block you from making it work?

I just wanted to mention - you can still find old versions of their software (everything from version 1.8.1) on the official Electrum download page: https://download.electrum.org/.  Only use those outdated versions on an offline, air-gapped machine though since theyre not as secure. But it could help get your wallet back potentially.

Welcome back to the forum, btw!
191  Economy / Economics / Re: Banking on people's ideas, visions, and talents. on: March 09, 2024, 10:25:23 PM
It makes you wonder, right? - Is it a fear of failing that holds people back? Or maybe they just do not know how to get the ball rolling or turn their vision into something real.  There is a whole lotta pieces to making an idea happen, and getting it done can be way harder than just thinking it up.  I mean, coming up with ideas is the fun part.  But then you gotta figure out how to sell it/fund it, build it, market it - the list goes on...  and it is easy to get overwhelmed or intimidated.  Most folks dont have experience with all that biz dev and project management stuff.

So then that spark of inspiration fizzles out before it ever ignites into something meaningful.  And thats a dang shame, because who knows what potential is left untapped.  But its not an easy problem to solve.  Where do you even start demystifying the process? How do you equip dreamers with the skills to do instead of just imagine?
192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Bank - Safely store your bitcoin on: March 09, 2024, 09:24:42 PM
~
It would compensate for people who want to hold for a lot of time without having security concerns.

Without having security concerns? Surely you understand how absurd that sounds?  What more security concerns could you possibly build into a system than requiring people to give up ownership of their money and entrust it in custody to some shady third party? Honestly, if someone wants long-term crypto storage, they have far better options - like hardware wallets. Your idea, frankly, creates more problems than it solves.
193  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Have I been Scammed?? on: March 09, 2024, 09:14:42 PM
~
Is this normal or does it appear to be a scam? Thanks for any help!

At this point, it should be pretty clear that this is a blatant scam.  No legitimate investment platforms are run exclusively through Telegram - thats a huge red flag.  And promising returns in 21 days but then surprise last-minute requirement? Thats a classic scam move to string people along.  TVN for profit verification? I have no idea what that even means, but it sounds like nonsense designed to confuse folks.

And them "kindly" offering up a programmer contact? Yeah right, more likely its just another scammer ready to take more of your money and  I know its hard after already investing something but do not send them any more coins or you will never see them again!
194  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I just woke up and saw wins in my gambling app on: March 08, 2024, 09:05:15 PM
I have never had that happen before.  Sounds like you just got plain lucky, forgetting about some bet then having it pay off later on.  I mean hey, good for you buddy, enjoy it! But dont go getting hooked on gambling just cause you won once.  Beginners luck is definitely real but so is gamblers ruin!  No need to push it and lose it all back.  Best to just smile about a lucky break and call it a day.  Wink

Anyway, congrats again on scoring a nice little windfall!
195  Other / Meta / Re: Is something wrong with the forum’s native search function? on: March 08, 2024, 08:39:29 PM
The last time the search function was down, the admin said something about the index being rebuilt. Maybe its the same this time and the function will work again in a day or two?

The index is being rebuilt. It's taking a little longer than I remembered from last year: it might actually be tomorrow or the next day before it's done.

There's a Google custom search on the search page which is similar to site:bitcointalk.org but with some extras. The forum search is worse in some ways and better in others. If you realize that the forum search functions in terms of exact words (eg. a search of bitcoin ethereum returns posts which contain exactly the two words bitcoin and ethereum, disregarding placement and not considering related words like bitcoins), then you can use it effectively.
196  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'M NEW HERE on: March 08, 2024, 08:29:07 PM
Hi guys, i'm new here
~

Welcome to the forum, Jessi v.  It is awesome to see you here!

To begin with, like some others have already said, reading at least the sticky threads in every board you are interested in is a must if you want to get some basics. Also, the Beginners & Help section has lots of guides and talks that will help. Try to read and learn as much as you can.
197  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC power on: March 07, 2024, 09:40:23 PM
we normally get rich by working, studying or something else but not hodling

What are you talking about?  Did you, by chance, fall asleep during basic economics class and wake up thinking you were a medieval merchant?  Just a friendly reminder, its the 21st century, my friend.

Hodling isnt a magic get-rich-quick scheme, but it can be a part of a smart investment strategy.  Yes, work and study are important, but building wealth often involves multiple approaches. I mean, just buying coins and waiting to cash out big might not work out.  But ignoring crypto fully isn't the answer either.  Learning about it, taking some risks, hodling as a long-term play - that can make sense with how things are evolving.
198  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Am i bad to this friend if i refuse to loan him some money in bad economy on: March 07, 2024, 08:34:25 PM
Now I am profiting from my Bitcoin investments then and one of my colleagues is now in dear need of financial help, he needs some help, not life-threatening but money, and now I am not ready to loan him any money as long as it affects my overall Bitcoin holdings.

I do not think you need to feel pressured to lend your friend money if you are not comfortable with it.  Even if he is going through a tough time, your own financial stability has to come first.  Ive been there before too - some friends Ive felt like I could help out no problem, but other times, Ive had to say no even when it affects our friendship.

At the end of the day you just have to do what is responsible for your situation.  Not everyone deserves for you to put your neck out.  If this friend isnt super close or you dont have confidence youll get repaid, its fine to politely decline.  And, if your friendship suffers, then he probably wasnt valuing it properly in the first place.  I know its an awkward spot to be in though.

This whole event taught me a great lesson that, instead of eating and spending your money as a newbie, there is a better chance of holding Bitcoin,  because in the future you have financial freedom.

Holding Bitcoin is good, but dont forget about eating. Thats important too!  Wink
199  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto news sources on: March 07, 2024, 08:15:44 PM
I have used Cryptopanic here and there over the past couple years.  Its a decent news aggregator for crypto.  You can filter what sources you wanna keep tabs on, which is handy to pare things down to outlets you dig.  Some solid Telegram channels covering crypto are Unfolded and WatcherGuru and  they seem to keep me in the loop on the latest.

These tools can help you stay on top of what's happening in the crypto world without getting overloaded.
200  Other / Off-topic / Re: Opensource decentralized forum on: March 05, 2024, 08:48:38 PM
What are your thoughts on this? Would you use such system? Any point on building such system?

And what if when it gets swamped with violence and gore, or even CP? Would you use such a forum?

A decentralized social network can be a good thing, but it would be completely useless without some form of moderation.
