181  Other / Off-topic / Re: The dumbest financial mistake you ever made on: July 09, 2014, 11:31:55 AM
I should have walked away from a property I was $200k under.  I felt like I should do the right thing and be responsible so I kept it, but I could have walked away like everybody else and save myself a $200k loss.
182  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Do Philosophers Do? on: July 09, 2014, 11:28:03 AM
They "work" as a community organizer until they're pulled up the ladder promoting Hope & Change and eventually they become President.
183  Other / Off-topic / Re: feel like resigning cause my office environment is not smoking friendly on: July 09, 2014, 11:25:39 AM
My office I m smoker and the ladies sometimes will hint me don't smoke cause very smelly when I come back to the office .

So let me get this straight, you lost $5k gambling and have a gambling problem now and you can't control your smoking and want to quit work?

Winner winner chicken dinner!
184  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin Generator? on: July 09, 2014, 11:22:26 AM
It's like a Bitcoin Tesla Coil, only it came to fruition.  I think Helicopter Ben had one.
185  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What would my best case scenario MH/s be using my GTX770 on: July 09, 2014, 11:19:25 AM
770M - as in mobile!?!  Grin

First of all nVidia (non Maxwell)?  really?  2nd, a laptop?

I won't be rude, but I'll be blunt - there is no point in trying to mine on a laptop.  It would make a few pennies in a month at the risk of a possible RMA.

To mine Bitcoin you need ASICs.  Either buy one or just keep reading on the forum.  Enjoy your laptop, don't kill it.
186  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin difficulty may actually go down in ~7 days! on: July 09, 2014, 09:18:14 AM
I sorta shutdown my bfl 63gh@330watts single when I got my s2 setup recently. The bfl is still on the profit side but its not much. I would probably clear $20 this month after power cost. I was thinking of giving it to a friend or donating it to someone before its no longer profitable for anyone. It has a low serial number 7xx and has been running since last august up until I turned it off. Should I keep it for an antique? Hah

Some people may want to operate at a small loss because mining is a way to get bitcoins without going through an exchange. So you could subtract the fee of what it would cost to buy coin on an exchange and mine at that percentage lost. Using your electricity to buy bitcoins basically.

Running the calcs for an S3 paying .07c/kwh, I could probably run it til 180 billion difficulty at current btc prices. I'm fairly confident btc prices will go up before then so I could possibly run even longer. I'm know I can get a good 3-6 months out of it and maybe longer but its hard to predict what will happen past 3 months from now. Some new asic could get produce and all sorts of other things.

Solar would be a nice option but takes forever to break even. After you do break even you could run everything til the equipment dies.

Good luck trying to sell 1st gen gear for more than a pittance! If you didn't already do it several months ago, you're far too late. Even S1's are at giveaway prices, nevermind BFL, Avalon and ASICMiner gear. I held too long and have stacks of old miners collecting some serious dust.

The only hope is if BTC price shoots to the sky. The rise to $1200 saw used gear nearly quadruple in value on eBay almost overnight.

Yeah I was hoping that might happen last month then I could dump my Gen 1 miners.  Unfortunately now the miners make pretty much nothing, so that all anybody would pay.  4x$0 = $0 hehe.  Mine are sitting in an E-waste box waiting to go to recycling.
187  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are Satoshi's 1.5M coins viewable? on: July 09, 2014, 08:33:30 AM
Many of the early mines sent each block reward to it's own new address.  You'll find thousands of addresses with untouched 50BTCs sitting in them.  Satoshi probably did something similar and has many "small" addresses.
188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [HELP ME!] [Edited (again)] Computer Crashed No Graphics Card Detected. on: July 09, 2014, 08:07:24 AM
You are heading for more disaster if you try to fiddle with flashing. RMA the card.

Perfect answer. OP, you didn't flash the BIOS, so that has nothing to do with a bricked card after a failed BIOS flash.
Just take it to the nearest computer store and pay a few bucks, or RMA the card for free.
I'm 14 and my parents would kill me if they found out about the broken card. Sad
Do you think it would it cost a lot to fix?

Would I be able to RMA the card? Well I guess using oclvanitygen doesn't void the warranty or anything. So I should be able to get a replacement?

Would anyone be able to tell if I used oclvanitygen in any way? (apart from having the software on my HDD)
So I could just make up an excuse that I was playing DayZ or something and it crashed?

Your parents are going to kill you because a video card died?  It should be under warranty unless you try something silly like trying to flash firmware as noted above.

Contact the manufacturer on their website, usually they have a form.  Fill it out and usually in 24 hours they give you instructions.  Mail it back for $10.
189  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 40 minute BTC block time - No big deal on: July 09, 2014, 07:58:35 AM
Well we really haven't come back to the issue of how much to pass through in each block since the fork last year.  Since we appear to be slowing down on growth the blocks are going to be carrying more txns.
190  Other / Off-topic / Re: FBI U.S. Marshals Auction Prices Leaked! (Bullish) on: July 09, 2014, 07:51:49 AM
Since they were sold in segments perhaps some of the coins went for $900 and the rest below?  If somebody bid $900 per coin on one of the 3000 coin wallets...
191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gotta vent - eBay/Paypal suck! AND some people are just scum on: July 09, 2014, 07:48:06 AM
I was one of the first users to join eBay and I stopped selling on that shithole almost 8 years ago.  The second they got in bed with Paypal that was it.  I did make money using their services but in my last year I was down about $2400 thanks to crooks - and the buyers sucked too  Cheesy
192  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-07-08] Los Angeles Receives First Bitcoin ATMs in California Read more at on: July 09, 2014, 07:35:23 AM
If the drop one of these outside Disneyland I could use my stash to pay for a little vacation.  Ideally I would like to see the stores around the ATM start accepting BTC as well.
193  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What hardware would be best for a hobbyist? on: July 09, 2014, 07:25:26 AM
I don't think so, as home miner i lose just couple of $ each diff jump, but as a mining farmer you can lose more than 10 000$ each jump not mentioned the hardware, cooling, electricity cost

The farm is not losing if the farm happens to be the manufacturer and they sell them to end users and ship them off  Grin
194  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin difficulty may actually go down in ~7 days! on: July 09, 2014, 07:22:28 AM
Remember is a miner shut down 2W gear and they feel the need to completely populate all their electrical capacity they will put new miners online, so while they will take down an S1 they'll put up an S3 in it's place.
195  Other / Off-topic / Re: - ANN - FUDCOIN x45 - Launching Soon on: July 09, 2014, 06:13:32 AM
OK, FUDcoin  has finally been listed on FUDryptsy but whenever I send coins they don't show up for almost 3 days.
196  Other / Off-topic / Re: Ban the person above you (jokingly). on: July 09, 2014, 06:11:37 AM
Banned for noticing it.
Banned for having less activity than me.

Banned for having more posts than me.
Banned for stealing my ideas for reasons to ban someone. Browse the thread a little bit why dontcha.

Banned for horrible slang of "why dontcha". Might as well use caveman grunts "Og ban, smash good".

Banned for decrying literary licence!

Banned for being a modern pirate.

Banned for being the second person in this thread to call him a pirate.  Not very original...
197  Other / Off-topic / Re: Should I play guild wars 2? on: July 09, 2014, 06:10:47 AM
Yeah I played hardcore for the first 3 months right at the 3 day prelaunch and then I got bored.  I went back last June and got bored by Nov.  Went back in March and played for a month or so.

If you have friends on it's fun, otherwise the quests aren't that that interesting to me.
198  Other / Off-topic / Re: Longest ICQ User on: July 09, 2014, 06:07:22 AM
I had 898,725 or 898,752 - don't remember which one.  I had email account through my dad's Boeing account.  I lost access to that email and don't remember the password, don't think I've used it in over 15 years though  Shocked
199  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Advice on paper wallet on: July 09, 2014, 05:59:47 AM
Laminating and using acid free paper might be a bit much.  Paper sitting on a shelf is easily legible for 15 years if not more as long as there's no bugs or fungus to eat the paper.  I would recheck my cold wallet every year anyways.
200  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Martingale System on: July 09, 2014, 05:55:55 AM
So funny to see this thread attracting so many posts.  Guess people are trying to find an easy way to make money or they enjoy the thrill where they think the accomplished something by transiently beating the house.
