I hate to be that guy again, but you need to sort out the issue with the /r/nem subreddit. I fear if the marketing train ever does take off that is going to come back to bite us all.
and how will it do that?

Seriously, this has just gone overboard. Please just ban him already.

(inb4 curse words in all caps)

So...  there are FUCKIN' ASSHOLES admitting to have made personal remarks about me (out of the blue) and you want me banned because I gave them the big ol' reality-check-SMACK right between the nose and the upper lip?   Undecided
183  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread -NEM has launched[Updates&Discussion] on: April 05, 2015, 10:42:32 AM
So, since it is a no brainer, you will be a great hero for the NEM community and everyone will literally look up to you from below. Tell you what. Invest $100K, put $42.5K into marketing, invest the balance $57.5K into buying up some XEM, get 3-fold increase, sell XEM and you gain $172.5K. That would be $72.5K, clean into your pocket. Do that consistently and you don't need your Jinn.

Can we see you do it from above? Put the money where your mouth is.

I don't have money. If I had then Jinn wouldn't distribute 10% of its tokens.

So you are trying to leverage on NEM's POI to get an edge with JINN, so that the 10% token distribution can stretch you much further? I thought you were a big boy in NXT and you should have at least a handsome few 10s of million NXT. All gone now? Perhaps you should weigh your priority now between firing your staff and putting the money on a sure winner in NEM's marketing. You will be a hero here in NEMsphere. All of us will be very thankful to you.

If I were to know that it is going to push my $100K to $172.5K, I will beg, borrow or steal to get going with it. No more champagne and Jacuzzi with pretty women. That should take a back seat. No?

are you crazy man? That never takes a backseat!

I have to say that all those complicated POI or PoA (node) or whatever leads to nothing but messing people's minds and others trying to exploite the system by spamming transactions etc...

The best egalitarian system would be a totally random harvesting, that way people with 10000 or 5000000 balance would have the same chance to find a block, this is such a waste of time man, i can't believe this.

Harvesting is to support the network and gives equal chances to newcomers wtf it seems so obvious. You keep your nems in the hope that it will gain value like bitcoin or any other coins, no need to make it a harvesting ponzi or something and have people shouting that pos related systems are making the rich richer.

Man, this is so simple.

No it is not simple...

I believe our devs would have it much easier for them to code a system where every node has the same chance on getting the block...
That wouldn't work because if I create a botnet with thousands of computers than i own the NEM.

Other route would be to give voting power to each monetary unit - like NXT did - then you have whales who get almost all the forging rewards and also it rewards hoarding

NEM is unique because of that Eigentrust model where the importance of each node is constantly calculated and it is most fair and also incentivizes spending and being useful and not just hoarding.

Glad to have you asking questions. Please stop by at http://nem.io/ and read more about NEM.

EDIT: also equal does not mean fair.

It is planned that in addition to harvesting that there will also be node rewards.

So that people with high POI get fees, but that anybody running a full node and supporting the network whether they have big POI or not will still get an equal share of node rewards for that day.
Is there a set date when they will start?  As far as I understand the node rewards won't last forever,  so if this is true then it's just a temporary solution.

Question for discussion:

Should exchanges be allowed to harvest?

You can't stop anyone from harvesting. Each account makes it's own decision
From what i know from some poloniex mods, their contract prohibits harvesting
If poloniex is NBZMQO7ZPBYNBDUR7F75MAKA2S3DHDCIFG775N3D then they are harvesting

It's their call no one can stop them. Although I must say I wouldn't do that...

If they really do, I hope they're doing it on some separate node, not on the node they use for getting information.
So exchanges are like banks then? Charge a fee to buy & sell and use the parked XEM for a high POI score so they can harvest blocks for the txs fees.

People hate banks for the profits they make off us but I guess it's ok for exchanges.

What about the power to pay for the botnet? If fees are not high enough then running the botnet would cost you money.

EDIT: with POI, the more XEM you have the higher your POI is, so those richer will have a better chance for rewards.

1 NEM is not a company.
2 Don't wann hear soon ? Stop asking.
1. So NEM doesn't want to be taken seriously?
2. So no asking questions?

The poster was asking about the newsletter.

Don't like people asking? Then stop posting teasers.

1 So you only take companies seriously ?
2 You shouldn't ask questions if you can't handle / don't want to hear the answer
1. Never said anything about companies.
2. That's a two-way street.

we still hope dev can work for this project till its sucess , any guys who can help then pm dev
the dev said the project was dead. The db they used as well as using UDP were the main reasons why this failed.

I did not see that???
It hasn't launched yet

What is needed to work within the legislation
For implementation of the payment system activity in the legal field of Ukraine, it is needed:

1. To register LLC (respectively, to approve the charter, regulations, etc.);
2. To open CEAT 64.19 (other monetary intermediation types) and CEAT 64.99 - as the main type of activity (providing other financial services (except insurance and pension funding);
3. To agree rules of the payment system work with the NBU.
The most difficult step to date - the agreeing of regulations with the NBU.

So really, you still don't know if/when this will be accomplished?

Dumb question no doubt, but I haven't tried to install the wallet for a long time. It's insisting on 64 bit Java. It won't run on my 32 bit machine. What's the workaround?

Tried the 32 bit Version?

Of Java? It's on there. The client won't install without 64 bit.
This might help if you are using windows:

So does this mean this no longer applies?:
71% - distributed to stakeholders on the final stakeholder list.
4% - auctioned off at a later date.

Yes, the auction was cancelled a long time ago.
and the 71%?

As far as I know there is a 25% and 75% split. Some of that 25% goes to main devs at launch and some goes to future main devs once they have completed some really nice features and leave beta and go into version 1. This is maybe a year from now. And some of the 25% will go towards creating marketing team strategy for a marketing team.

Of the 75% a ton of sock puppets were kicked out. I think we all agree that was a really good thing (except for the people with only 5 posts who are coming in here to complain).  For literally months there was discussion to burn, redistribute, or put the funds towards special projects. Of course lots of people will pop into this thread at launch telling NEM devs what they "should" be doing with that money now that it is launch, but the reality is they gave no input before. After a lot of discussion that went on for months and votes by the community members that were actually active (not just for redeeming and dumping) it was decided to use funds from sock puppets to fund special projects which the numbers have been posted in here. These include some redistribution projects like node rewards and silver coins. Some development projects like hiring people to build professional quality phone apps (NEM devs are awesome programmers but they aren't app makers). And there is also a community fund where the community will vote on block chain for projects that the community wants. And lastly there is a plan to build a sustainable loop with XEM.
But as of right now only 40% of stakes are going to the stakeholders, is the other 35% going to be given to them? And if so how?

So the 75% won't be upheld even though it says so on the first page of this thread? More misinformation again.

Which bit is wrong? (Granted, it is now clear I am not invisible) Who will hodl the multisig keys to 65% of all NEM if not the devs?

I asked a question. But it got ignored. I bumped it and Patmaster answered, and there was nothing that could be done about NEM holders being in a minority at launch, apparently. I contributed how it was would be bad to launch with the Nemholders as such a minority (along with 2-3 others). It (we) got ignored. I thought I was invisible. I wasn't.

Well if you DO NOT TRUST the developers then you can ask in the thread
if the key can be shared between developers and trusted escrow service.

Do you usually respond to queries with threads of ~100+ posts and a effectively a grunt of "read that.."? Do you think the 45-65 percentage stake split is a good idea?

NO but I have seen you here for a longer time so
I thought that maybe you are interested more in details in this project.

The split you mentions is not correct the developers (core team) are not entitled to the 65%.
The developers will get 25% of all stakes that means 1000 stakes for the core team.

3000 stakes (75%) were planned to be distributed so after sockpuppet eradication
about half 1500 stakes will be put apart for long term projects.

I think is good to have funds aside for projects.

But right now only about 40% will be distributed to stakeholders.

A few people asked but I'm not sure there was ever an answer about why the original 75%-25% figure is not being upheld?
200  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 10, 2015, 06:26:07 PM
If the numbers in this post are correct then what will happen with the leftover stakes?

https://forum.nemcoin.com/nem-news-alerts/stakes-of-sock-puppets-and-unclaimed-stakes/msg14002/#msg14002

I think we are being ignored mrvegad.

I don't see the point of that post. You ask the question and then you post the thread were the answer is being discussed ?
The answer wasn't discussed before I made the post.
