Even better to see her promote Dash again.

1824  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: XMR Price May Touch 500 USD In 2019 on: February 11, 2019, 12:38:06 PM
In order to get a price increase a cryptocurrency either needs a lot of hype (which is easy when you start a project but a lot harder when you have an already established project) or it needs
a specific use case (pref several use cases). A use case that investors can regnonice and see potential in.

Throughout 2018 and into 2019 Monero is lagging behind in transactions and traded volume, compared to its direct competitors.
Monero managed to get itself cornered in a niche market, the privacy-centric-only market (to be fair there are some other crypto projects like Zcash who are in that same situation but they have more transactions / volume)
Monero's ASIC debacle (its network is currently overrun by ASIC miners ,while it suppose to be an ASIC resistant network), together with the possiblity of needing recurring hard forks to block ASIC miners could potentially turn investors off

What are Monero's use cases ? What are its unique selling points ?

This post should be about Monero, not Dash, and @qwizzie you're right, it was not premined, it was instamined BIG. There was some discussion what to do with these instamined coins, but Dash dev (Darkcoin at the time) did nothing to solve the issue.

In Monero we're trying not to get centralized mining farms, in order that everyone could mine it, not only the ones with cash to buy some ASIC

You are right, lets keep this about Monero. I'm only interested in the ASIC mining aspect / discussion.

Some see ASIC development as a logical next step in a ongoing hardware evolution within crypto (specifically proof of work crypto).
Kinda like The Borg : highly adaptable and futile to resist...

With regards to centralization : i think that will happen at some point anyways, even with networks with only GPU's.
It will just be in the form of centralized GPU hubs, created by wealthy miners.

Thanks,

Monero - Premine scam coin endorsed - Dash.TM!

Will update the marketing appropriately

If i could have a Dash for every time someone tries to connect Dash to a premine i would have a few more masternodes.. sighh.
You do know that premine means mining before public launch ? right ?
And you do know that was not the case with Dash ? right ?

Anyways, let me not distract you from your bigger problem : how to deal with ASIC miners that have completely and utterly taken over your network (85.2%).
A network that is suppose to be ASIC free....

In its slow-but-steady crawl towards mass adoption, Bitcoin (BTC) will now be accepted at American wholesaler H&M Distributors.

Not to be confused with the Swedish multinational clothing-retail company Hennes & Mauritz AB, H&M Distributors instead deals in cost-effective lighting — specifically, replacement ballasts,
lamp holders, and accessories for lamp holders.

H&M Distributors will use the cryptocurrency e-commerce platform Chimpion to facilitate purchases with the market-leading cryptocurrency.

However, Bitcoin isn’t the only digital asset accepted by the company. Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dash (DASH), Bitcoin Diamond (BCD), and others are also accepted.

To the Monero community : Good luck, personally i'm all for ASIC miners as they strenghten networks against 51% attacks (when they are spread over multiple pools)

It means that we have to wait at least 7 days more to see that the DIP3 will be successfully activated or not.
Some other additional changes in GUI, RPC, etc.
The DIP3 is a highly expected event in DASH community globally.

First miners need to signal 80%
Then approx 7 days to lock-in DIP3
Then approx 7 days to activate DIP3

Hopefully this can all be done at the end of this month.
Miners support currently at 75%

Talking with Slawek...there is apparently a bunch of retooling the mn config once the determinalstic mn feature is triggered.   I'm preparing for all that work and catching up on some light reading.

Yeah, once DIP3 gets activated masternode owners need to do a few more steps to get their masternode registered as a deterministic masternode.
I guess when thats done the mn config will then contain some obsolete information, i'm not sure yet what we can delete / remove by then.

Enjoy your light reading.

I heard a rumor a few weeks back (Jan 19th) regarding ASICs on the network - supposedly there was a batch of 5000 miners manufactured for a private Chinese farm that went online just recently. It seems to be pretty feasible after comparing against some analytics done on the nonce ranges of historic blocks:

https://github.com/noncesense-research-lab/nonce_distribution/blob/master/nonce_distribution.ipynb

Conveniently enough, this analysis concludes the miners came online around Jan 9th. Some chit-chat from IRC matches up as well:

Quote
<@solar> i got some confirmation about asics too
<@solar> there's at least 1 group with cnv2 asics, 65nm
<@solar> supposedly a batch of 5000

<sech1> So after a thorough analysis of the winning nonces for blocks 1760000-1765000 I can say this about ASICs that are on the network now:
<sech1> 320 cores (10 chips x 32 cores?)
<sech1> each core processes nonces with 2^22 step - from 0 to ~1.34e9
<sech1> Single core speed is 400 h/s - calculated from the area of spikes (which come with 2^22 step) on winning nonce graph
<sech1> Overall ASIC device speed = 128 kh/s (400*320)
<sech1> Around 4000-4500 ASICs online now

<sech1> M5M400 they do mine on public pools: f2pool, viabtc, poolin - they all submit blocks with winning nonces strictly in ASIC nonce ranges
<sech1> all 3 are Chinese pools ironically
<sech1> so we can just count them in "unknown hashrate" part
<sech1> which leaves only 230 MH/s known
<sech1> and 641 MH/s = almost exactly 5000 * 128 kh/s solar

At the time of this post, network hashrate is 850 MH/s (640 MH/s being 75% unknown), putting us squarely in the danger zone for network-level attacks. This is also a major drain on public pools - with only 230MH/s of "legitimate" miners popular pools are operating at a significant loss, having only 60-70 MH/s on average (e.g. SupportXMR at 0.6% is just below $1300/mo, while their server expenses are approximately $5000/mo). With the next hard fork still a few months out this is a completely unsustainable scenario and will eventually lead to the closure and consolidation of the public pools, not to mention a mass exodus of "legitimate" miners.

This is why hard forks purely for banning ASIC miners are dangerous in my opinion, they lower your network strength (making it vulnerable to 51% attacks) while ASIC manufacturers
will find ways to circumvent it. Best is to just allow ASIC miners and have them spread their hashrate evenly across pools (difficult to arrange, but not impossible).

A few observations :

* Dash has a high number of active addresses (3rd highest in top 16, right after Bitcoin and Ethereum), while Ripple has a surprisingly low number of active addresses (a few other cryptocurrencies as well)
* Dash is slowly strenghtening its number of payments (by clicking on the "i" next to Num Payment you can see how Messari calculates this (they actually seperate it from number of transactions)
* Traded volume (24hr Vol) looks like that of coinmarketcap (meaning it looks realistic, no wash-trading inflated numbers here)
* In time Messari will add additional fiat pairs (its just usd for now)
* Grin seems to be losing its smile  Smiley
* Very customizable data

Welcome to DASH topic, troller.
To be honest, I am very surprised that there is a user who dedicated more than four-year period to troll DASH.
I joined crypto in 2017, and the fact I got here made me totally shocked.
It requires lots of patience, passion, and belief to do this from year to year, and has not given it up yet.  Smiley

The funny thing is that after 4 years of trolling our little house pet troll has nothing to show for.
This Dash community only became stronger and more united because of the constant trolling.

Maybe its because our little house pet is just not all that smart when it comes to trolling,
is not all that adaptable when it comes to the trolling technique being used and gives away
his other puppet accounts far too easily, which makes us own him time and time again.

Yep, Icey is our own little house troll pet.

We managed to learn it neat tricks over the years too, like how to delete one's own post and then repost it again in order to not break forum rules with regards to spamming
(which is frankly a bit ineffective when you have so many people who are actively ignoring your posts).

We also managed to learn it that it is not as easy to divide this Dash community as our little house troll thought it would be, whether on Bitcointalk, on Dash Central, on Reddit or on our Dash.org/forum
(basicly our house troll pet has poppet accounts everywhere).

I guess he got a little bored in the Monero thread, where he took his little wintersleep.
