1881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: How do you make money on Stablecoins? on: December 17, 2018, 09:21:13 PM
Which new stablecoins are coming out in 2019?

How does a person know that the stablecoin is not a scam and is audited/verified showing its backed up by something? For example USDT suppose to be backed by dollars in a account/vault. Can the buyer go to the vault and exchange his/her stablecoins for whatever it's backed by in the vault?

If stablecoin crashes and dies will buyer/hodler be compensated?

Which stablecoins are decentralised and is regulated by the government?

Why would someone by a stablecoin? Is it because it is more convenient to hold compared to the actual physical thing?

Finally how do you make money on stablecoins on the markets if there are no bull or bear markets or volatility for them?

Stable coins are used by some traders (mostly large investors) during times of high volatility, when its unclear which way the market goes and when there is a high chance of major price movements.
They use stable coins to protect their investment against this volatility, since stablecoins are directly pegged against the dollar so their investment will be less impacted. Its basicly an alternative to
cashing out in FIAT (which will bring regulation, KYC rules and scrutiny with it).

There are ten stablecoins i'm aware of :

Tether : least trusted of the stablecoins and most controversial as no official audit was ever finished and presented. This stablecoin is issued by Bitfinex, which also has somewhat of a damaged reputation after getting hacked awhile back
and charging their customers in order to cope with the losses.

https://www.investinblockchain.com/new-stablecoins-2018/

Paxos Standard
Gemini Dollar
USD Coin
CarbonUSD
nUSD
Stronghold USD
Candy
LBXPeg
Tiberius Coin

Check the major exchanges and see which stablecoins they implement, that should give you an idea which ones are more in demand.
So in conclusion using stablecoins is not so much about making money, it is about protecting your investment.
Personally (eventhough i dont use stablecoins) i would check out Gemini Dollar as the Gemini exchange is well known (Winklevoss brothers), well regulated, provide strong protection and seems to have good insurance.

DASH: may fall down $15?

FUD mumbo jumbo

Its always interesting to see how fanatic die-hard Monero fans cant stay out of threads relating to Dash.
Hi Febo : what did Monero do these last few months/year with regards to development and integration ?
(besides getting connected more and more to diverse forms of malware focussed on secretly mining Monero and thereby damaging computers and servers)

To all : what did any of your alternative crypto projects do this year with regards to development and integration ?

For every serious investor there comes a time to evaluate the following :

* what are the achievements of the project i'm currently in ?
* what are the use cases of the project i'm currently in ?
* what is the vision of the project i'm currently in ?
* what is the roadmap of the project i'm currently in ?
* does the development team provide clear and accurate communication to its own community ?

If there are no clear answers to above questions, then that should form a red flag, a major red flag !

Also keep this in mind : if and when institutional money enters the crypto markets (hopefully next year), they will be focussing on use cases and on crypto projects that can fund themself for a long period of time
(as they themself will be investing for a long period of time). Which means they need crypto projects with dev teams that can (financially) operate and survive in bear markets and show steady progress.
1883  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: DASH: may fall down $15? on: December 17, 2018, 08:04:43 PM
Do you think Dash may fall down 15$ ?
I also don't want to believe. But the support in 43$ is weak for hold us from this terrible crash. And from 15$ to 43$ we do not have any supply and demand zone. Remember that it has lost more than 90 percent of its value from the highs of December last year.

Will wait the signal in 43$, if the price break down so we may see Dash at 15$ in bottom of cycle. Hope not.

Opinions?
I havent heard some recent good news about Dash, for me it is less and less interesting project. I think that this altcoin attracted many people only due to its Masternode, nothing else. So soon, yes, probably goes to zero.

Sooo close and yet soo far away.
1885  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: DASH: may fall down $15? on: December 16, 2018, 02:46:16 PM
well it could be fall down to $15 if bitcoin is dumping again you know all altcoins rely to the price of bitcoin, hopefully the market will not fall down again this month.

Yes, there's high possibility for DASH to dump in price before the end of this year because the crypto market is yet to reach the bottom price but DASH will definitely not dump to the $15 price range even when bitcoin dump again because DASH is among one of the most used altcoin around the world.

I agree there is still a chance that Dash could fall in fiat value, as Dash like most altcoins is totally depending on Bitcoin's price movements. But looking at Dash longterm price movement in btc value, i think Dash hit bottom at 0.01764925.

Monthly Interval Chart of Dash on Poloniex

Note : Just disregard volume, most of the Dash volume takes place on other exchanges. But Poloniex does provide better longterm chart view thanks to its long history with Dash.
MACD is particularly interesting in this longterm chart, as it could indicate a trend reversal.

If Bitcoin does not dump below $3000, i think that Dash will make a slow but steady move upwards and i suspect that 2019 will be a lot more friendly to Dash then 2018.
But it will take many many months for Dash (or for any altcoin) to have this severe bearmarket completely processed.
1886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: DASH: may fall down $15? on: December 16, 2018, 02:03:11 PM
The problem with DASH is that there isn't much demand for it, and there was an 'apparent' huge premine at the start which the founder denies so the distribution of DASH is likely to be very poor. I'd go with ZEC instead as it got listed on coinbase and gemini

Dash was never premined, nor did the founder ever denied the problems at start. Pls stop spreading lies.

https://dashpay.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/OC/pages/19759164/Dash+Instamine+Issue+Clarification

Because of the instamine, the huge selloff that immediately followed by early miners, the pumps and dumps between 2014-2018, Dash has become one of the most distributed and decentralized projects.

And just because a coin got added to Coinbase is a poor argument to choose that coin, specially when you see what kind of coins they are adding these days on Coinbase

good news for dash

Yep, 2018 has been a very good year for Dash with regards to integrations and merchant adoption.
Price/market will catch up to that at some point.

For every investor there comes a time to evaluate the following :

Dash next update v0.13 (which is currently tested on testnet and should be out soon) will implement an instant send-lock-spend method on simple transactions (transactions with 4 inputs or less)
without any additional fees. Which means that a customer can pay for something within a few seconds, the transaction locked against double spending and the merchant can spend received money
right away. Only transaction fees are still applicable, but Dash has pretty low transaction fees.
This should making paying for food / products / services a breeze.

By the way KFC Venezuela is not the only (fastfood) place accepting Dash these days in Venezuela Smiley --> https://dashnews.org/chicken-restaurant-chain-churchs-accepts-dash-in-10-venezuelan-locations/

more than 51% today!!! https://www.crypto51.app

I dont trust that site, its data is unclear to me and seems static (doesn't change).

Dash current hashrate : 2,14P

Correction: The following site show Dash hashrate more clearly --> https://www.coinwarz.com/network-hashrate-charts/dash-network-hashrate-chart (1,37PH/s)
Looks like some Dash miners switched off due to recent price dump, which is also making the mining difficulty go lower : https://chainz.cryptoid.info/dash/#@diff
(which should make it more profitable to mine again btw)

crypto51 : 1P ?  Huh

Current mining pools distribution on Dash network
Link : https://chainz.cryptoid.info/dash/#!extraction

crypto51 : 112% NiceHash-able (whatever that means  Huh)
crypto51 : 1 Hr Attack Cost $1,932 ? No idea how they calculate that, but if they calculate Dash hashrate already incorrect and dont take into account the new generation Dash ASIC miner and dont update their own data, what value does this price really have ? Or any of their data ?

Also crypto51 makes no reference to Monero, why ? Why pretty much list all coins but exclude Monero ?

Agree, but how real are that buy walls?

Could be cancled quite quick to orchestrate a dump sub 3k.

(Being quite active on coinbase for a while, and the market maker there does that a lot of times)

I wonder if there could be tax reasons for possibly concluding the dump before the start of the new year ?
1896  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 07, 2018, 02:24:17 PM
I have fiat in, but this doesn't feel like the bottom while we're all bantering away and talking of 100K parties.

I don't think the people in this thread are any type of representation of the wider world. Even at $999 plenty here will still be in the black whereas your average Reddit mong will feel ruined. We'll be grumpy. He'll be thrashing in a pool of taupe shitwater.

I know it's the diehard types here, and not representative.  I was noting it is assumed this level of pain 'must be capitulation'.  However, it is entirely possible, even likely it will go lower, perhaps shockingly so as you rightly said.  Then there will be a fair while before it turns truly bullish.

By the middle of next year, it could be pretty quiet in the WO.  Well... except for JJG of course.
Yeah don't forget the majority has lost money since their investment. A lot. While most of here are still at least up 10x initial investment if not 100x

This gives food for thought : https://www.coindesk.com/when-bitcoins-price-breaks-down-it-follows-a-pattern
Personally i hope Bitcoin hit bottom at $3300 (Bitstamp).

Hi,
Apart the Chainlocks implementation, could someone explain what this data about Dash mean? Is it really so cheap (6349$) attack the network during an hour? Is Dash well positioned respect others coins?
I'm just curious because it's a retweet of Szabo.

Thanks in advanced.

https://www.theblockcrypto.com/2018/12/03/long-tail-cryptocurrency-is-51-attacked-vertcoin-edition/

You can read up (or back) about it here : https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/51-attack-costs-on-cryptocurrencies-looking-for-feedback-on-article.38356/
I never did get a clear answer if Dash is really that cheap to attack..... i suspect it is not, specially now with the new ASIC miner out (the one with the very high price tag).
But on the other hand the price of Dash has dropped considerably.

Since the success of a 51% attack depends for a part on a weak hashrate, Dash seems less likely to get hit by 51% attacks thanks to Dash (still) relatively high hashrate and costly hardware.
And with regards to InstantSend possibly forming a protection against 51% attacks :

* TroyDash :
Quote
InstantSend does not prevent a 51% mining attack, and someone would not need to control 51% of masternodes in order to execute a 51% attack on transactions including InstantSend txs. What InstantSend does is it makes it just as safe to accept a
zero-confirmation transaction as it would be to accept a normal 6-confirmation or 20-confirmation transaction (but not infinite, because the locks do expire eventually at some point *after* the tx has been included in a block). With the understanding that 20-confirmation
transactions are still susceptible to a sustained 51% attack just like they would be in any other PoW chain. If a 51% mining attacker were to mine on a forked chain and get more proof of work and get something like 100 blocks ahead, then the original chain would still be
abandoned in favor of the new chain.

Dash current hashrate and overview of mining pools active on Dash network :

https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/dash-hashrate.html
https://chainz.cryptoid.info/dash/#!extraction

Chainlocks obviously provides far better protection against these kind of malicious attacks, then just having high hashrate and high hardware costs.

Someone could hep me?

I have never had problems transferring funds from my core wallet to an exchanger, but today I have more than an hour, and my wallet shows unconfirmed status.

Later I made another transfer of funds to the same address and it worked correctly in little time.

2f453dff069a491e61a026c6d25d4c01fdca099b59d3b770d167e10a7d5825cb

is This  normal, it happens frequently.?

I used the instand send protocol, and my wallet version is (Dash Core version v0.12.3.3 (64-bit))

Thank you.

If this transaction (2f453dff069a491e61a026c6d25d4c01fdca099b59d3b770d167e10a7d5825cb) keeps getting stuck, then make a backup of your wallet and go to the repair part of your wallet :
Tools - Wallet Repair and press "Recover Transactions 1".  You will notice this will re-broadcast your transaction to the blockchain and your transaction should get confirmed now.

This sort of thing happens on rare occassions, you could come across it more during mixing then with creating a normal transaction like this one. Maybe you had a bad connection or something
during creation of that transaction ? Let me know if this works.
