1841  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Whoa! Hard forks are BAD! on: June 17, 2016, 02:18:30 PM
Those were required due to massive (network-breaking) bugs in Bitcoin itself, not because people put their money into an insecure third-party application which then was exploited to send said money to the attacker. The latter has happened many, many times in Bitcoin and nobody has ever seriously suggested a hardfork or rolling back the attacker's transactions, because Bitcoin developers, miners, and users all know that it would completely destroy everybody else's faith in the system. One must ask why those involved in Ethereum don't seem to know that.
1842  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DAO/ Ethereum hacked - bitcoin price? on: June 17, 2016, 11:12:19 AM
Why do all the OP starting new threads on the DAO exploit mention Ethereum? - there are no exploits or attacks ongoing with Etherium.
Because there are rumours that it will be "fixed" by rolling back Ethereum's blockchain, which would be Very Bad.
1843  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DAO/ Ethereum hacked - bitcoin price? on: June 17, 2016, 10:52:33 AM
In the mean-time Vitalik has tried to get all trading to stop. This is not what is supposed to happen in a decentralized system, nobody should have that much authority.
It's only until he rolls back the chain, then it'll be us bitcoin holders' turn to start panicking. Undecided
1844  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH hardfork incoming. on: June 17, 2016, 10:17:20 AM
What's so wrong with a good old fashioned fund freeze / rollback?

Shit, meet fan.
1845  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the mempool being jammed solid for a few days now good or bad for the price? on: June 15, 2016, 03:27:52 AM
There's no "the" mempool. Every node has its own individual mempool, and its own policy on how many and which transactions to store and for how long. Roll Eyes
1846  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you hedge your long positions? on: June 14, 2016, 10:17:33 AM
Yeah, the lack of a liquid vanilla options market for bitcoins is, I think, the main thing holding back mainstream investment at the moment.
1847  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: restored wallet from backup - times differ on: June 14, 2016, 10:05:50 AM
The wallet.dat file stores (among other metadata) the actual time each transaction was made, and this metadata will naturally not be present for transactions made after the backup (discovered during a rescan of the blockchain). For such transactions, the time displayed will be the timestamp of the block it was included in, which will generally be several minutes later.
1848  Economy / Economics / Re: The Halving on: June 14, 2016, 06:38:13 AM
BTW, it is "halving", not "halvening".
I just assumed that, like hodling, whiskey was involved in the spelling.
1849  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hardfork - Bitcoin Core i Classic - my question on: June 13, 2016, 03:03:10 PM
No Bitcoins are lost, that's why it's called a "fork".
Think that it's just that the blockhain will follow a new route(using Classic mining instead of the actual one).
Misleading advice from a sig spammer, who'd have guessed? Roll Eyes

will I then lose my Bitcoins from the Core version?
No. Coins mined before the fork can be spent on both chains (which, incidentally, allows double-spending, which is one of the main reasons why anyone who knows anything is totally opposed to hard forks except where absolutely necessary). Coins mined after the fork are only can only be spent on the chain on which they were mined.

Or will I rather be able to copy my wallet file from Core version to Classic and still use all my resources?
Yes.

Also, once the wallet file is replaced and my Bitcoins are compatibile with Classic version, are all funds from Core version gone/unusable?
As long as coins are not double-spent as explained above, you can spend coins from either wallet.
1850  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Wallets for Australia? on: June 13, 2016, 03:41:17 AM
I opened the MultiBit HD wallet and apparently the ONLY way to buy or sell BitCoins while using their wallet software is via Glidera (which only serves at the moment North America).
What are you even talking about? MultiBit HD, like any wallet, can send and receive bitcoins to and from any company or individual in the world who accepts bitcoins. What do you see when you click the Send/Request tab? When you have bought bitcoins on an exchange, you can request that they send those coins to your wallet. If you have coins in your wallet that you want to sell, you can send them to the exchange in order to do so. It's not that hard.
1851  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Wallets for Australia? on: June 13, 2016, 03:10:36 AM
I obviously don't know much about bitcoins, but from what they say in there, it appears that the only place to buy/sell bitcoins while using MultiBit HD is Glidera - and if your region is not covered (yet), tough luck.
They say it's a place to buy and sell bitcoins, and that they particularly recommend it because they have a business relationship with them. You can, in fact, transact with companies other than those recommended by your wallet provider. For buying and selling bitcoins in Australia, I personally recommend BTC Markets (again, my recommendation is worth just as little as anyone else's).
1852  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC to 5000$ soon on: June 12, 2016, 12:31:09 PM
To me soon is 2016/2017. However, August/September 2016 is when I have real expectations of shit hitting the fan.
Wow, that's a lot sooner than I thought. I figured on the start of 2017 at the earliest. If we do hit US$5000 on or before 30 September 2016, I'll give you BTC1. After all, I'll be a lot richer! Grin
1853  Other / Off-topic / Re: What is a DDos Attack?! on: June 12, 2016, 11:27:51 AM
There is no need to ask "What is X?! Can you explain to me what X is?!" when there is a Wikipedia article about X which is also one of the first results if you just Google X.
1854  Other / Meta / Re: What exactly is a "constructive post"? on: June 12, 2016, 10:51:21 AM
A constructive post is one that constructs a point of discussion, such as a thoughtful question, a useful answer to such a question, an argument in a debate, or an interesting opinion. The length of the post is immaterial, as it's possible for a even a single word to be constructive, while an essay-length babble of useless or off-topic non-information is not constructive. Posts such as "I like this", "This is good", "+1", without actual information to justify those opinions, are especially non-constructive and are deleted on sight, and the posters will be banned if they persist in making such useless posts.

How can they seize money from a credit card?  Tongue
They can't. Only prepaid debit cards. Credit cards and debit cards linked to a bank account cannot be accessed. Why would you expect the truth (or anything close to it) from bitcoin.com?
1856  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What's the max amount of time a transaction can stay uncofirmed ? on: June 12, 2016, 10:05:39 AM
I don't think so. There is a thing called mempool, it stores unconfirmed transactions. If it is not confirmed during 48 hours its dropped from this mempool and u should broadcast transaction again with higher fee (coz this was reason it didnt confirm in 48h)
Wrong. Transactions are stored in a node's memory pool for 72 hours by default, though some nodes are configured to keep mempool transaction indefinitely. In any case, a transaction will simply return to the mempool if it is still being broadcast (as transactions usually are until they are confirmed).
1857  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What's the max amount of time a transaction can stay uncofirmed ? on: June 12, 2016, 09:42:24 AM
What's the max amount of time a transaction can stay unconfirmed ?
There is no maximum imposed by the Bitcoin protocol, but since the computers on which it runs are made of matter, the laws of physics impose an upper bound on the length of time they can exist. Your transactions will certainly cease to exist within 1040 years when all atomic particles break down, unless the universe (or at least the Bitcoin network) is destroyed some other way before then.

Two of my transactions are still unconfirmed after 48-72 hours and it seems like they will never confirm. However, i read they will eventually be rejected or something and return.
You read wrong. Most software will continue to broadcast your transactions until they are confirmed with no easy way to stop it.

Already fucked as i needed the BTC two days ago, but just wondering how long will it still take...
What fee (if any) was paid on these transactions? If no fees were paid, you may be waiting a while longer. Use the time to complain about the software or service used to create the transactions, since it is clearly defective.
1858  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we still say that BTC transactions are faster? on: June 11, 2016, 12:28:03 PM
if the btc you are sending has been static for some time (sat in wallet for weeks), it will be confirmed quicker
I've read somewhere that the miners have moved away from this model (I'm not sure whether this is true though, as I can't find direct information about it).
That's because it only ever applied to free transactions, which miners are indeed moving away from. Core still prioritises free transactions this way when mining, but you need to change the default settings to allow free transactions in the first place. Most miners don't, but since some do, this is what determines whether a particular free transaction will take several days to be confirmed or never. It's probably better to just pay the recommended fee than to rely on this behaviour, though.

Wait, I was supposed to come up with a fake name? I wish someone told me that earlier. Embarrassed

I only spend less than 2 min. ... and knowing the hypergamous nature of the human female I lost precious opportunities.
Opportunities in the plural? In less than two minutes? Cheesy Exactly how long does it take you to take advantage of each opportunity? They have medication for that, you know.
