while i don't hate the guy, it's hard to call him anything but foolish.

He wasn't foolish. Definitely not. However I'll agree that he was somewhat overconfident. He miscalculated or perhaps underestimated the powers of the FBI.

He did quite a lot of foolish things, especially within regards to setting the site up.
18462  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Be safe: READ THIS BEFORE TRADING/BUYING/USING YOUR MONEY on: December 27, 2013, 10:32:31 AM
Guys beware of a user named LALA scammed me out of litecoin last night.

He or she is trading for earthcoin mostly it seems. LALA seems to be fairly active on the forum also, but after running a check on the name I see I'm not the only one who has been caught out!

I should have been more careful and lesson learned.

 Roll Eyes

Make sure to post in this users scammer thread with details/evidence: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=386535.0
18463  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto Christmas presents on: December 27, 2013, 10:27:32 AM
Hi, I'm new to this forum and was just curious if anybody gave bitcoins, lightcoins or any other alt coins as a Christmas presents.

I would never do it, its not personal enough for me, but with all the buzz about bitcoins lately I wouldn't be surprised if whole families have exchanged bitcoins as presents this Christmas!

I'm thinking about giving some next year. Depends how well known Bitcoin becomes in 2014 and how many coins I can make before then.
18464  Economy / Services / Re: Earn upto 0.6 BTC per month for your signature! on: December 27, 2013, 10:07:42 AM
Where are your such huge words?
Why does the Bitcoin community takes everything as scam? I am damn sure that's one reason why not many people adopt Bitcoin. There were many Bitcoin services that came and go. Why? Because people thought of them being a scam.

As a general rule you should assume everything on here is a scam or at least be very suspicious until proved otherwise.

So... You're either the OP's alt and a self-incriminating person or you left the first two paragraphs out of a quite accidentally.

I'm betting neither. Don't know why OP would bother coming back now to defend himself unless they were going to pay out.

18466  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Member "insertcoolusername" Abusing Charity for Cancer by SCAMMING on: December 27, 2013, 09:51:03 AM
99.9% of people who claim they're going to donate money to charity on here are scammers. The other 0.01 may have good intentions but are still foolishly naive. Never donate to people who are claiming they're going to donate to charity: it's the oldest trick in the scambook.

I am very very depressed. This guy scammed me 3.35 BTC. He said he was going to send the nextcoins to me according to our deal, which never happened. I don't know what to do right now. I spent all my savings buying the BTC from coinbase this morning and I still haven't told my wife. I feel very very bad. Can anyone help me? Even teeny tiny little bit means a lot to me!
BTC: 16H79yaTFbryqn6RRw4SrG4agJPF73mqU1
LTC: LNccRZPjnMLaSycDMZERUu4NW7GZuvcoZD
NXT: 11971683968767913384

Why would you send 2BTC then then a further 1.35 Bitcoins to someone without escrow and without receiving the first lot of coins? You have my sympathy if you were scammed, but please stop begging for donations everywhere.
18467  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The posting rule on: December 27, 2013, 09:22:17 AM
While I understand why the rule was put into place, as it prevents trolling...it is impacting my ability to communicate with the owner of Middlecoin.  I only made an account because I wish to send him a message concerning payouts, but I am unable to do that due to this posting restriction.  Can you please alleviate me of this problem?  Thanks

I think you're just going to have to wait the 4 hours, but you could try asking in the whitelist thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=15911.0

I don't think time logged in actually counts, just time you've been actively browsing.

18468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Locked on dogechain pool on: December 26, 2013, 08:44:31 PM
I forgot my pin on the exact day I registered, and got myself locked after trying a few combinations I thought were correct. Yeah, I'm dumb.
Can anyone help me by directing me to someone who can unlock my account? The login is just like here - CM4320.

You'll probably need to find one of the Doge pool threads in Alt currencies: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0

18469  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cold Storage Wallets on: December 26, 2013, 08:41:53 PM
Even a 512MB usb stick would be enough. Go to the shops, buy about 3+ cheap USB sticks they are around $4 ea you can find them, and store them all on there, so if one is broken or lost you have more. Enjoy your day.

Personally I wouldn't go for really cheap USBs. You can still buy branded Sandisk ones very cheaply.
18470  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cold Storage Wallets on: December 26, 2013, 08:22:55 PM
Hello Everyone,

I have a 500gb external hard drive, i would like to use this hard drive to store multiple wallets on for different alternative coins, is this possible? if so what all would i need to do to get this going?

Back the wallets up on multiple sources: USB sticks, CDs etc. You can also copy the private keys down as well.
18471  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoins ruined my life on: December 26, 2013, 08:12:17 PM
You might not be a Bitcoin innovator. But still you can become an Early adopter.

That graph is way off. Right now we're in the "me too!" phase, followed shortly by the "why am I still holding the bag??" phase.  Cheesy

The graph is applicable to every new Bitcoin boom.  This is like the 4th go-around by now Smiley

First wave - sub $1 (laggards = "Why didn't I buy under a penny?!"
Second wave - sub $32 (laggards = "Why didn't I buy under $1?!"
Third wave - sub $266 (laggards = "Why didn't I buy when it broke $32?!")
Fourth wave, where we are now - sub ~$1200 (laggards = "Bitcoins ruined my life")

Haha got a good laugh out of that. I'm sure these waves and why didn't I buys? will keep on going for quite some time.

18473  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: ★★★★ Selling member accounts for newbies ★★★★ new price!!!! on: December 26, 2013, 07:48:34 PM
Yeah, I have to wonder if this is even within Forum Policy to begin with.

There's a reason they put restrictions on new accounts.

It's been discussed before. Staff members have confirmed selling accounts and buying accounts is allowed. Even advertising it on the forum is allowed. I doubt this is going to change in the near future either.

We're told to ignore the number of posts and account age as measures of trustworthiness, how is user trust any better?  Doesn't the accumulated trust get sold along with the account?
OP, got any accounts with high trust ratings?

The bottom line is not to trust anyone on here. Positive feedbacks can easily be left from sockpuppet accounts, but wont show up unless they're from people on the trusted list. Accounts with some positive trust from them would probably be worth something.

18475  Economy / Services / Re: Earn upto 0.6 BTC per month for your signature! on: December 26, 2013, 03:32:25 PM
I couldn't fathom why people switched over from a reputable guy who has a history of paying out to a complete newb. The pay brackets were the same as Stunna's up to 501-801 posts, and even then most people won't've got near those amounts any way, so was it really worth the risk? Looks like no.
Well, they switched because this pays for total posts, not made during the month.

Where does it say that? I think I missed it.

Probably here

You pay per posts we actually have or by post we made during advertising period?

Payment is based on number of posts you will have after the month, ie: time of payment.

But this is a big sprawling writing across the wall, since if this campaign is legit, the said simply doesn't make sense as an advertising service...

Yeah, doesn't make sense to do that, well, unless you're trying to poach business/customers  Grin.
18476  Economy / Services / Re: Earn upto 0.6 BTC per month for your signature! on: December 26, 2013, 03:21:25 PM
To me, everything became rather evident after this would-be scammer had one-in-one copied Stunna's signature style. Now I am more interested in what those guys are going to do (lol) who immediately changed their flags sigs after receiving payment from Stunna...

I wouldn't exactly say that set alarm bells ringing. If I was going to set-up signature adds, I'd probably steal Stunna's and just tweak them a little  Cheesy.

Had the OP been actually going to pay out that much money (huge $600 for the upper tier at the time), I think he would have bothered to make his ad signature look like nothing else out there instead of just copying it, lol. You don't take into account the total sums involved in these campaigns. Last time Stunna, by his own words, ended up paying out more than $10,000 in payments...

That's true, but Stunna's site/signature payouts are far more popular, and the advertising in signatures here is a good way to get your service out there and is still quite cheap compared to other alternatives. Buy yeah, I assumed this wasn't legit from the start. If the site was a scam though, surely we would’ve heard about it on here with people crying that they lost their money.

Anyway, I'd like to hear from people who switched their benefactors so fast. What were they actually hoping for? Isn't enough as good as a feast?

18477  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Dogecoin ever be more than a joke? on: December 26, 2013, 03:19:46 PM
I personally think Dogecoin is pretty genius. I know I am in a big minority here, but I don't see Dogecoin as being any more of a joke than any other cryptocurrency. Every single Cryptocurrency essentially amounts to a big pyramid scheme where early adopters are the ones who stand to gain the most if their crypto currency becomes "successful".

They're not pyramid schemes, but people are treating them like they are.
18478  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A friend's idea to promote on: December 26, 2013, 03:14:17 PM
Personally I think you'd be nuts to throw away coins on getting your jollies, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

Don't get me wrong in this one.
I'm just doing my research on bitcoin adoptions and use.
And I had an argument with the sexcoin fans , which only have a store using that crypto.

I inquired about SR also in the past, although I haven't smoked at least once in my life , not talking about drugs.

Ah "research" haha  Grin.

What was your argument about with sexcoin?

Not my argument , I was debating that each of those coins sexcoin , casinocoin , and gamescoin are intended for a specific market or bussiness.
And how some other members pointed out , there is an escort service accepting bitcoins  , but none accepting sexcoin.
Almost lots of betting websites for bitcoin but almost none for other coins.

And reading through the discussion I tried search on how those alts are really used and can't find really anything about.
Too bad that bitcoin isn't showing results as I was expecting. Lots of grey areas here too.

That's what I don't get. Why do we need these niche coins when Bitcoin works? People were making the argument that people need a anonymous coin for the sex industry, but having a wallet for Sexcoin on your desktop isn't exactly inconspicuous. Why wouldn't these stores or industries just accept Bitcoin. It's a joke and complete get rich quick scheme.
18479  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-12-23 NYPost - Feds stole my $33 million bitcoin booty - SilkRoad's DPR on: December 26, 2013, 02:17:33 PM
Are you sure they're safe and encrypted? If he had back-ups why would he bother suing? I'm sure the Feds cracked them and they've been transferred into the Feds wallet, but I could be wrong.

The coins were transferred to a different wallet a few hours after Ullbricht was arrested. So I think that the FBI is in possession of the private keys / passwords.

I think there was two sets. The ones they got from seizing SR, and his own personal stash from commissions.
