1881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can Litecoin hold the #2 spot? Doubtful..and here are the coins who will benefit on: June 14, 2014, 10:16:52 AM
Since coblee is here, why not do what Counterparty did and clone it to make it run on top of Litecoin? Just one suggestion to make Litecoin more useful. That would at least show the developers care about Litecoin and add something new. Especially since Counterparty code is already there to copy with slight modifications.
1882  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can Litecoin hold the #2 spot? Doubtful..and here are the coins who will benefit on: June 14, 2014, 10:10:16 AM
Many features demanded of a coin like LTC however also require a hard fork, and that is very risky risk business for a coin of that age, size and adoption. It's easy for many of the altcoins in this area because there is little to lose in comparison.

True. That's why it's stagnating and losing in marketcap. Only cosmetic development, no new features added.
1883  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can Litecoin hold the #2 spot? Doubtful..and here are the coins who will benefit on: June 14, 2014, 09:59:57 AM
Many seem to think that just because a feature doesn't exist that it should not be considered a trustworthy useable currency.

Nah, that's not the point. The point is, it may be trustworthy and useable, but each additional feature gives another one a competitive advantage, opens new markets and adds to the utility value.
1884  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 51% - Only 2 solutions on: June 14, 2014, 09:55:31 AM
I think there should be a body to regulate it , like visa/mastercard or somesort.

Atleast it will be more solid and investors will be convinced ?

What would be the difference with visa/mastercard then? Bitcoin became as popular as it is, because it was deemed by early investors as not regulated. Regulation makes it the same as any other fiat currency - USD, Euro. Give at least one reason why more solid large investors would join just another regulated currency, if there are plenty of those already, issued by established countries or stock issued by established companies. Really large investors prefer government bonds, not only because bonds are risk-free for them, but also because large institutional investors are regulated to only buy bonds and a selected choice of established companies. Now, if we talk about private large investors, they wouldn't want to invest in something that can be regulated and taxed the hell out of.
1885  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptos in 1 year on: June 14, 2014, 09:17:23 AM
Devcoin was always meant to be the spending currency of bitcoin so maybe it will be the one.

Please stick to Top 5 format or better Top 10. Can't name only one, rules of the game Smiley
1886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptos in 1 year on: June 14, 2014, 09:13:40 AM
My humble predictions.

Interesting, thank you for your opinion. It would be a nightmare if there were 3000 coins, already is with 300 Smiley

Just a remark on privacy oriented coins, if centralized exchanges force them to leave due to regulations, they can end up on decentralized exchanges, so the market cap can still be calculated based on their prices on those exchanges.
1887  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can Litecoin hold the #2 spot? Doubtful..and here are the coins who will benefit on: June 14, 2014, 08:56:28 AM
Btc-e market expectations are the Litecoin will go below 0.01.

Open: https://btc-e.com/exchange/ltc_btc

2226.28 BTC in buy orders.
516172.25 LTC in sell orders.

2226.28/516172.25 = 0.00431 ltc/btc is the average price buyers are willing to pay, that's where the price is gravitating.

For LTC/USD it works out to $2.06 at this moment, not very encouraging either.
1888  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptos in 1 year on: June 14, 2014, 08:39:13 AM
This could possibly be pretty much incorrect. You can't know this.
Also you didn't mention DRK.  Wink

Yes, but if you are scared to name the Top 10 in 1 year, just say so, I will understand. I mention what I think will make to the Top 10. You mention what you think will happen. In 1 year we can compare, incorrect or not.

EDIT: if not sure about Top 10, name Top 5 in 1 year, if you feel it's easier. Come on, it's just a game, nobody makes you pay for anything, it's free and fun Smiley
1889  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptos in 1 year on: June 14, 2014, 08:09:19 AM
Come on, this is a predictions thread, make your predictions, which coins will make it to Top 10 in 1 year. You can specify at which spot you see them, or you can just say these 10 coins will be there without specifying. Can you do it? Use your 'see the future' abilities, and we can revisit this thread in 1 year.
1890  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can Litecoin hold the #2 spot? Doubtful..and here are the coins who will benefit on: June 14, 2014, 07:51:12 AM
I think it is funny to see so many trying to grasp for the #2 spot.

 Grin Grin Grin

As an old member of the forum, can you make your wild guess predictions in this thread? What we see in Top 10 in 1 year. Would be very interesting to hear your thoughts.

If more PH of power are added each 10 days than removed (hash rate graph) as the rising difficulty shows too, then it'll be back to square one sooner rather than later.
1892  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin on: June 14, 2014, 07:19:29 AM
the risk the emittent can scamm you is not solved.

With centralized exchanges you have two risks: the issuer can scam you and the exchange can shut down running away with your money. There are quite a few crypto stocks exchanges in Bitcoin's history that shut down and investors lost their money.

With a decentralized exchange you only have the risk of the issuer scamming you. So one risk less.

There is work in progress to set up a sort of rating service which would do background checks on asset issuers to make sure people don't buy obvious scams. Of course, there is always a risk that a startup fails, not due to scam but just incompetence or outrun by competitors or some other factors, but that's the same as in real life with any startup or stock, you take a big risk investing in a startup.
1893  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Cryptos in 1 year on: June 14, 2014, 07:05:04 AM
In 1 year from now I see these 10 coins having the biggest market cap in no particular order:

Legacy PoW coins: Bitcoin/Litecoin/Dogecoin/Myriadcoin/Peercoin

One or two privacy oriented Cryptonote based coins - there are a few of them with Monero leading the pack right now.

Crypto platforms: NXT

Perhaps: Counterparty and Bitshares if the latter actually manage to present some competitive product.

Maybe one other new coin that doesn't exist yet and can offer something really unique to users.
1894  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: June 14, 2014, 06:54:00 AM
Hmmmm, what if somebody outside of the community uses the symbol then?  Like I can use the NXT symbol on my Jabo38 coin? (not going to, just wondering)

NXT is not a corporation, no trade marks, the logo can be used by anyone. If a company operating inside the NXT economy designs their own logo, based on NXT logo or not, and copyrights it, then that particular one cannot be used.
1895  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can Litecoin hold the #2 spot? Doubtful..and here are the coins who will benefit on: June 14, 2014, 06:50:34 AM
which means LTC goes up (in a logical world).

In a logical world a coin with most features and most security would be #1 right now. And it ain't bitcoin or litecoin.
1896  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The penny has yet to drop on Qora. on: June 14, 2014, 04:58:33 AM
...since Bitcoin will rise also 10x...

are you sure? Smiley
1897  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: June 13, 2014, 08:37:01 PM
This is really cool to see a real world application of coloured coins! Someone could even trade that silver token for some coffee beans or something if someone sold coffee tokens as well. I wonder what sort of commodities trading we'll see. It's an exciting prospect in my opinion.

I believe some dev said they would try to implement trading anything for anything on the asset exchange or multigateway, but don't take my word for it, I may be wrong. Actually, that'd be redundant, as that would be bartering, and why is that necessary if there is such a standard unit of accounting as 1 NXT and everything can be priced against it.
1898  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The penny has yet to drop on Qora. on: June 13, 2014, 08:32:24 PM
They had had enough of clones and junk its true, so have I. Which is why Qora is something different.

Which feature of Qora is unique?

Money is not about gimmicks. What did FB do that Myspace didnt?

Its a new code, so the fact we have some overlap of functions is cause those are the functions people have been discussing and asking for for the last few years. Like I said you are looking at this from a Shitcoin perspective where you want some monkey playing cymbals to make it interesting.

its a new code so its like comparing a Jaguar and a mini and saying they do the same thing so they are the same, Or Android and OS and saying the same thing.

What it has over NXT is implementation. So far the wallet has worked sooo much better tha NXT ever did at this stage. There will be an asset exchange and I'm expecting it to be implemented in a way that is user friendly. The hope is to add anonymity later too.

Whats under the hood of Qora you will have to ask specifics to the developer. Qora has said the focus is on being able to build future developments ontop of Qora.

Here is the key though. The truth is as an original code it has a right to run alongside NXT as an alternative to it. No one is ever gonna put a NXT clone over NXT but a completely new code with similar functions. It is a natural competitor and so should be seen as a real contender, no pump and dump but a genuine stab at being a currency that blows up bigger than even Bitcoin.

Yeah, ok, I don't know about myspace and FB, never used any of those, can't tell.

I wish Qora success, I'll buy some if the price is right. I think it's expensive right now for what it offers. Having an alternative to NXT is a good idea, provided that it can take off. Qora is way behind NXT though, and if there is only 1 developer working on it, he'll have to borrow NXT's code a lot or be hopelessly left behind even more. There are a few devs working on NXT and only one on Qora, there is no magic, you have to produce code, debug it, test everything, it takes a lot of time. So it'd be best if Qora borrowed NXT's code, otherwise it won't see a lot of progress.

1900  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The penny has yet to drop on Qora. on: June 13, 2014, 08:10:02 PM
Maybe because people have had enough of coins now. It's been a constant influx of new coins and 'new code' just doesn't impress that much any more. 'New code' just by itself doesn't mean much. It has to be features that no other coin has implemented yet. People don't care about code, they need features. Better if those features are stable without major bugs.
